On the Grid : Le's Sandwich - Banh Mi Viet Nam

"A perfect pit stop for a quick and substantial lunch. The banh mi comes in at around $5, is made-to-order by the owner and does not disappoint. Competition is stiff in the world of Vietnamese subs, but Le's definitely makes the cut." - Concrete

Follow @bredgyeats for more food pics! A small shop with a wide variety of Vietnamese eats, that take me back to my time in Vietnam. From giant steamed baos stuffed with Chinese sausage, egg and pork, to a mung bean and mochi sticky rice, to tapioca dumplings, to pork dumplings, to pretty much everything else I can crave, they seem to have it despite the small location.

The bar is high because I’ve literally never had a bad banh mi before but this sandwich was really good. I appreciate that it’s not overstuffed and that pâté was spread on the bread. The veggies were crisp and fresh. The baguette was fluffy on the inside. Definitely will be going back!!

This charming family-owned Vietnamese grocery and banh mi shop is an absolute treasure. I've been on the hunt for a classic cold cuts banh mi since arriving in Toronto, but have been disappointed by what's available in Spadina and Downtown. This one, however, is the real deal, with generously sliced meats, zesty pickled radish and carrots, homemade pate and butter, and fresh chili to add a kick. The only drawback is that the bread although crispy is a bit too airy for my taste, but I always take my banh mi home and pop it under the grill for 5 minutes and it transform to a beast! I can't wait to come back for more just writing this review!

Google
Reminds me of my childhood, the best spot outside of Chinatown to grab authentic and affordable banh mi! We grabbed the bbq pork and assorted. The meat is tasty and fresh, and veggies nicely pickled and crisp! Definitely ask for extra veggies, they really load it up! They also carry an assortment of viet market goods, snacks, drinks and more, definitely coming back with friends! Make sure you bring cash!

Delicious and love that you can customize the banh mis to suite your own taste. My go to is extra spicy no carrots :) the owners are very sweet too. Highly recommend

Google
Great assorted original Banh Mi, viet coffee is so delicious too. Reminds me of back home, and the customer service is great the owners are very nice. They sell other things in there as well like snacks, and drinks, and the viet essentials. If you know you know.

Yelp
Le's Sandwich, located on College near Dufferin, is a Vietnamese store that sells a wide variety of Vietnamese grocery items (mainly non-perishable). Owned by a Vietnamese couple, the small space also has a banh mi take out counter (banh mi flavours ranging from assorted, meatball, sardine, BBQ pork, etc.). There is also Vietnamese coffee (hot or cold) as well. Place is cash only. I love a good banh mi and was looking for lunch options around College/Dufferin and stumbled upon Le's Sandwich. Upon entering, I already knew this place was legit. The owners primarily spoke Vietnamese and I ordered a BBQ pork banh mi. I'm not sure if she understood me because I ended up with an assorted banh mi instead (not that I minded!). I also browsed around the small store and saw that they had a lot of Vietnamese grocery items including instant pho. Definitely will be my go to place if I am looking for something Vietnamese related. Food wise, the banh mi was delicious! The pate was the real star and although there weren't as many veggies as I would have liked, the whole sandwich was tasty and delicious - I likely could have eaten 2. Overall, the prices are a bit higher but definitely wouldn't mind supporting a small business if I'm around the College/Dufferin area!

Yelp
I think I found the best Banh Mi place in Toronto. Better than Banh Mi Ba Le, Banh Mi Nguyen Huong, Rose's Vietnamese Sandwiches. Very clean, freah taste, loved their paté, and their chili hot sauce(paste) was amazing!!

Yelp
The sandwiches are amazing! And she'll make them spicy too. This place is legit. Great price. Thanks Le. Seeya soon!

Yelp
Their bread is good and the iced coffee was good but the sandwich fillings (I'll admit I chose sardine) made my stomach turn! I also tasted the tofu sandwich and was not impressed. Blech! Also the woman who worked there was totally rude. Why? We will not be going back.

Yelp
Corner store shop that sells Vietnamese sandwiches for $4-4.5. Good baguette, filling has correct seasoning, meat (beef) I don't recommend because it tastes like liver. I would get the basic assorted cold cuts next time if I am in the neighbourhood again. Server was unfriendly.

Yelp
Good authentic banh mi, kind of overpriced for what you get compared to Chinatown offerings but still tasty. Place functions as a Vietnamese convenience store as well which was a pleasant surprise since a lot of the stuff they carry is hard to find elsewhere.

Yelp
I was going to a workshop and needed to get a quick bite and noticed this place. Banh mi usually equates to good cheap eats. Yes, it's more expensive than other banh mi places $4 instead of $3. But viet subs are undervalued as a whole compared to $10 not so fresh fast food meals. I was a bit worried about the quality of the sandwich because it was so quiet when I walked in. Very used to the bustle of other banh mi places in busier areas where tons are made at a time. Anyway, the sandwich was good! The baguette was long and narrow compare to wider bread at popular banh mi places. Tasted like all the other assorted banh mi s I've had.

Yelp
$3.99 for a 6inch at Subway? Nah...I can get a better sub at Le's sandwich for $2.50 I have always loved Vietnamese subs; the fresh bun, the use of corriander, assorted meat, and the yummy pickled vegetables. soooo good. FOOD Apparently this is the best sub place in Toronto according to my friend. I dont' know about the best. It was alright and I would definitely go there again. It just wasn't KaBAM WoW! Same ingredients as a typical viet restaurant. COST It was a bit more than the sandwiches in Spadina. Le's cost was $2.50 whereas Spadina (from the last time I've been there...which was probably a year ago) is $2.25. So there is a slight premium. but only so slight.

Yelp
Looking for the best food you'll find for under $3 after tax? This place is definitely worth a try. Its not ground breaking stuff, but its good food at good prices and there really isn't much else in the Dufferin & College area when looking for a quick bite to eat on the go. The bbq pork banh mi is better than the assorted bahn mi, and personally I hold off on the coriander when ordering. I believe they also offer chicken breast or beef sandwiches at higher prices, but I've yet to try them as I'm big on pork. The place is also stocked with tons of take home instant soups and chinese grocery items that have a long shelf life, so don't be afraid to browse while your sandwich is being made as you'll probably come across something cool worth buying.

Yelp
Big cheap fresh sandwich. Bread is a little too dry. Meats are so tasty but doesn't look well refrigerated so make sure u eat that sandwich right away leaving it out might give u the runs -.-

Mark P.

Yelp
I eat Viet food at least once a week and have eaten many, many banh mi (Vietnamese subs) all over Toronto. I can name about 100 places that make better banh mi than this place. Besides the miserable look on the faces of everyone working in the place, I have never seen such little food put into a sandwich before. The bread tasted stale and there was two small pieces of actual BBQ Pork in the whole sandwich. I even took a picture of this sorry sandwich to show people how terrible it was. If you want good banh mi, head to one of the Viet places in Chinatown. Avoid this sorry place at all costs. Miserable people and disgusting food deserves zero stars from me.

Yelp
Good banh mi, I like their long and narrow bagette. I hate the big kind, it's so hard to bite and food spill out everywhere. This place is very small. Parking is hard to find in this area. 4 stars because their banh mi is more expensive than other places but still a lot cheaper than subway and tastier. Give this place a try if you are in the area.

Anne P.

Yelp
If you're in the area and only have 4 bucks I would recommend it. As a far as the sandwiches go they are a solid meh. They are quick and cheap but otherwise nothing to write home about. I eat them because I'm in the area. If you're looking for good banh mii I would recommend visiting places in Chinatown or banh mii boys.

Matto A.

Yelp
Starving? 3 bucks on ya? Go here. Of course, anything is good when your starving. Its not fantastic; I got a rotisserie chicken sandwich, which didn't taste anything like rotisserie chicken. Than there were a couple carrots on it served on a French stick. It's also convenient if you live close by, and you need some instant noodles, Moreover, it's good for a quick bite to eat.

Yelp
Sandwiches are sub par here, and the woman behind the counter was very mean. I asked for extra pickled vegetables and she wanted to charge me an extra dollar. All this would've been tolerable, except when I took a bite, the mayo tasted like it's been sitting in the sun for the whole day. I had to throw my sandwich away, such a disappointment.
