L'Escalier

We had high hopes for this restaurant in Cassis, given its reputation and upper-class pricing, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. The fish soup was incredibly bland, yet somehow overly “fishy” in flavor—not the rich, well-balanced broth we had hoped for. My linguine was similarly overwhelming in fishiness and far too salty, making it difficult to enjoy. Even the salad was disappointing, with limp, day-old greens that lacked any freshness. The one redeeming factor was the friendly service. It’s a family-run restaurant, and the staff was warm and accommodating. However, they never checked on us after serving the food. Given that we barely touched our plates, it was surprising that no one asked if something was wrong or offered any kind of gesture to make up for the poor quality. For the high prices this restaurant charges, we expected much better. Unfortunately, while the atmosphere and service were pleasant, the food simply did not meet the standard. We left feeling disappointed and would not return.

we came here by accident, first night, tired from the travel. The grilled sea bass for 2 was so good. I grill this at home, but of course this is so much better, delicate and soft. The accompanying vegetables were also delicious. The staff are helpful and friendly. Also rose and white wines really good. highly recommended.

Excellent restaurant just steps away from the port area. I try to eat here on my every trip to Cassis, and I was never disappointed. I like the most their filets de rougets avec la tapenade. Delicious!

Great spot, very typical Cassis restaurant. Service was super kind and they have quite an extensive menu so everyone will find something they like. We had the tournedos and the truffle gnocchi, both very tasty. Would be happy to come back.

My girlfriend and I found this gem while in Cassis. We wanted to stay away from the touristic restaurants and bars. This restaurant was an amazing find and exactly what we wanted and more. The staff were incredibly professional, fun and they knew their food and wines. They were happy to speak English with me too. Incredible food, ignore my terrible photography skilled, it doesn’t do it justice. One of the best memories I’ll have.

Very busy restaurant, still got a table no worries even without a reservation, which was lovely. I believe they only had french menus which can be a little confusing. Good serving sizes & value for money. Only complaint would be that I was’t sure if the seafood in the La marmite linguini was fresh or frozen, may just have been a little overdone. I felt a little forgotten about a few times, but lovely staff.

Set in the alleyways with mostly friendly staff. We took their three course menu option for a decent price, but average quality. The fish soup starter was not to everyone’s liking, although was an interesting experience to eat, while the salmon tartare was nothing special and tasted of oil. Of the mains, the pavé de poisson (cod) was nice and of a decent size, while the filets de rougets (red mullet) were rather small and not particularly flavoursome. The entrecôte was generous although tough. The desserts weren’t good. You’d get better value at a nearby ice cream shop.

The best dinner we've had so far on our trip to the south of France. Loved the gnocchi.
