Best places in Singapore for a unique afternoon high tea experience - SilverKris

"A heritage-inspired tea concept that blends classic snacks with local flavours, presented from a retro-style poolside stall that evokes nostalgia with rooster-printed crockery. The offering includes hawker-style favourites such as Nonya laksa and moreish curry chicken, crispy carrot cake with XO sauce, fusion sandwiches like chicken “bak kwa” with cheddar and otak-otak egg sandwich, and desserts such as chendol panna cotta and a roving trolley of pastry pops. Beverage pairings include TWG teas, iced lemon tea and hot chocolate, making it a lively, Singapore-centric tea experience." - Joy Fang

L’Espresso is usually my go-to venue for English afternoon tea, and this was my third visit this year. I returned for the Christmas Eve Festive English Afternoon Tea Buffet. It was very crowded, and while food was replenished until the end, it was really slow and required queuing, which affected the overall experience. The chilled seafood was fresh, but there weren’t many items that stood out for me during this visit. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet my expectations this time.

We enjoyed the good selection of savoury items but the sweets were quite disappointing! There were few types of scones but was a bit bland and no buttery taste. Many of the desserts were just too sweet to our liking. Service staff were attentive and friendly.

The afternoon tea buffet has always been one that offers a great variety of items and does not emphasise on just the sweets. I vaguely remember my first visit about 10 years ago and the price was about $50 after tax, now it’s $64 before tax. It used to be two drinks included but now it’s one tea OR two coffee drink. I think price increase is understandable but I was slightly disappointed about the change in drinks. The selection of food included a variety of sandwiches, hot food like croquette and shepherd’s pie etc and desserts. If you eat one of everything, you will definitely be full. I do not frequent this place but would still visit once/twice a year when I want to enjoy afternoon tea buffet with good spread.

We have been periodically coming to the high tea buffet ever since we got married at the hotel 9 years ago as we liked the ambience and food there. This time, we were pleasantly surprised as the quality of food seemed to have become better than before. Selection of food is usually limited, but it doesn't bother us because the quality is really good. Scones seemed flakier than usual, but now they have different flavours as well. Overall, it was a great experience and we look forward to our next visit!

Really impressed by their high tea buffet session! Serving amazing quality of desserts and foods. Personally I like the raw meat session, serving kind of like Sweden style of raw meat which goes very nicely with all the different cheese there. They have a lot of different flavour scones such as Bak Kwa scones, pistachio scones, snow sugar scones etc. I tried almost every scones, I love the snow sugar one the most haha. Their service are really good as well! Must try the signature legacy house blend tea! With a hint of flower inside, so nice!

Visited on 13 Apr 2025 - good dessert selection and finger food (mini savoury pastries and sandwiches). Roast meats are lacking in quality and variety, and no seafood. Savoury pastries were quite nice. Sandwiches were ok. Would have liked more meats, maybe even some grilled or steamed seafood would be great. Come here for their desserts. They have a multiple variants of sweet food. Scones (bit dry, no clotted cream), chocolates (A+), tarts, cakes and candy. Service was slow. I think they were understaffed and a bit messy. One manager on the floor, he was doing every table's tea orders and forgot ours for 30min. The clearing of plates was initially slow but it picked up when more helpers came during the 2nd half of the duration. Also, customers have to request for top up of hot water as opposed to staff automatically offering a top-up. They serve free flow cold water and infused teas. Each guest can claim up to 2 tea pots each, or 2 coffees, or a mix. No alcoholic package.

Many years and counting! I've been a loyal fan of L'Espresso's high tea, and they never fail to impress. I was there again this Saturday. Once again, the buffet spread was sumptuous, with delicious sandwiches, tartlets, freshly baked scones, desserts and the pièce de résistance - tenderloin steak! The quality and consistency of their high tea offering are truly exceptional. What's more, the service was top-notch, even on a busy day. The staff, as always, were attentive, friendly, and ensured our needs were met. If you're a high tea enthusiast like me, look no further than L'Espresso. Five stars, every time!

I’ve always loved the high tea buffet at L’Espresso in Goodwood Park Hotel — it’s been one of my go-to spots for a relaxing afternoon with friends. The setting is elegant yet cozy, perfect for catching up over tea and treats. The buffet still offers a wide selection of savoury bites, pastries, and hot dishes. I really enjoyed the variety — the finger sandwiches, cheeses, savoury and meat station were all quite satisfying. That said, I couldn’t help but feel a little let down this time. The scones, which used to be one of my favorites, felt a bit dry and lacked that buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture I remembered. It was also a bit of a disappointment for my friend — she came especially hoping for their signature carrot cake, only to find it was no longer on the menu. Service was lovely as always, and we still had a pleasant time overall. But with the scone standard slipping and a few favorites missing, it didn’t quite live up to the high expectations we had from past visits. Still a nice spot for high tea, but we’re hoping for a return to the standards that once made it feel really special.

Yelp
Family wanted to have afternoon tea and we decided on L'Espresso since it's a buffet ($68/person). Made 2pm reservations and we were seated promptly upon arrival. Didn't get to try everything as there were quite a few items to choose from, as well as a good variety of tea options. Standout items for me included the carrot soup, crab salad sandwich, and prawn and mango croissant. At around 3:30pm, they ring a bell for the chef's wagyu sliders, smoked salmon tartare cones, and mini cupcakes. Afternoon tea isn't complete without scones, and they have 6 flavors to choose from - charcoal, coffee, pistachio, plain, raisins, and apricot - along with all the fixings (Devonshire cream, lemon curd, strawberry preserves, banana caramel). I tried the coffee scone (good with the cream and caramel) and the pistachio scone (yummy with the cream and strawberry preserves). The desserts were also pretty, although I couldn't say there was a standout for me. We took our time and did not feel rushed. We enjoyed the experience and would do it again.

Yelp
Fancy Afternoon Tea aka HIGH TEA in my books that I like. For a farewell Party with my Expat Friends, L'Espresso is indeed too my liking. Err.. I wish I get to savor everything but I am unable to coz the food spread my oh my... Though the seating is more "elegant".. With an additional cost of beverage from the High Tea cost, since I dont fancy to drink Hot Tea or Coffee.. perhaps that is just a little setback. Nevertheless, all the staffs are very welcoming and clear our plates when needed etc by asking us 1st if we are done with our meals what nots. Some of my friends had wine or other adult beverages, some opt for coffee and tea. I prefer the savory items more compared to the desserts this time around. Maybe I was super duper hungry since I did NOT have my lunch that Wednesday afternoon. All in all, I dont mind returning when needed. See you soon..

Yelp
This was my first time visiting L'Espresso at Goodwood Park Hotel. My friend's son had a day off from school and my friend was on leave. She asked if I liked to join them a day before. FOOD 3/5 The restaurant had this English Afternoon Tea Buffet with Rosy-themed treats and local favorites for the month of October. The restaurant was supporting the Breast Cancer foundation and would donate $2 for every paying guest. Honestly there was some identity crisis since the buffet starts at noon time. So this was really more of a lunch buffet and not for tea time. The finger food or hot item was alright. There were a few pink treats like the Crabmeat salad and Mentaiko Aioli and Poached Prawns with Raspberry & Mango Chutney which were really good. Other than that, the rest just meh. Some of the pastries mostly had a pink-theme and they were so pretty. The crème brûlée would not passed since it was a tad too dense. The sugar top was not caramelized well so the top layer was not hard but soft. The classic scones as well. Conrad Centennial really had the best classic scones around. AMBIANCE 3/5 It was alright. The table was too tiny for the 3 of us especially when the staffs were really slow in clearing our used plates and glasses. SERVICE 3/5 It was a weekday yet the staffs worked slow and clearly unaware guests' used plates and glasses were piling up. I had taken the liberty to clear our table a few times simply because the staffs would not even walk around our area. The only reason this area had a 3/5 was because of this male elderly staff stationed by the buffet area was super helpful. I would not recommend anyone to have a buffet here. That was just my take. My friend found this place and wanted to try this rosy-themed food promo when she took time off for her birthday. I would not pay that kind of money for food and service that were just mediocre. However, I still appreciate this treat :) 잘 먹었습니다!

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant for an afternoon tea buffet. It is flush and quiet. The food selection is large and delicious. Is a quiet place to come and be with your best friends or a lover.

Yelp
A friend was visiting and requested for an afternoon tea here. I managed to get a reservation at the last minute. Yay! There were 2 sittings on weekends for the high tea buffet (12pm to 230pm and 3pm to 530pm) and we got the later one. It was actually not very crowded that day and no longer seemed to be the popular tea place it used to be. The spread was decent with a mix of mini sandwiches, cold cuts, cheeses, fried snacks, hot food, scones, fruits, ice cream, chocolate fountain and mini desserts. You get two choices for drinks (tea is refillable). The quality of food was good but just nothing mind blowing. The selection of food seemed tired, nothing to really wow the senses or build a sense of excitement. Comparing this to Regent Tea Lounge (in its heyday, both L'Espresso and Regent Tea Lounge were THE place to go to for scones with clotted cream or traditional English tea), I feel L'Espresso has let itself go and is losing the charm, but my friend liked the food here, so it is very subjective. What were the highlights for me: - The service. The plates were cleared promptly and tea pots were topped with hot water without being asked. Kudos to a server who was very kind to change our 2nd drink order when we realized we had order the wrong one. Tip: The coffee in a tall glass with whipped cream would be iced mocha and not cafe hazelnut as originally thought. - Homely bread and butter pudding which had a good ratio of custard and bread. - shepherd pie only because I loved mashed potato - chicken shawarma roll - duck rillette, truffled mushroom dips with toast - pork goulash with brioche toast - a chocolate dessert with gold coated chocolate bits which popped in your mouth like pop rocks. The chocolate tasted like kinder bueno filling. - creme brulee What I didn't like: - the scones. they were too big and thick and the clotted cream melted and tasted like butter This is an ok place for afternoon tea but with so many other places offering tea, I rather go elsewhere where the food is much better and in the same price range.

Yelp
Really disappointed with the service. I was sitting on the patio and had to walk in a few times to get a server to take our order and had to search for someone to get the bill which took so long to come and when it came it was overcharged for a 4 pax high tea, even though we only ordered a la carte. They should pay attention to the service quality because it's the face and image of any service business, and for Goodwood Park Hotel, waiting 45 mins for a bill is just unacceptable.

Yelp
Very nice place to chill with girlfriends over premium tea and pastries. The pretty bite-size pastries are pretty to look at and tasty to eat. If you are looking for the usual buffet spread, then you'll be disappointed. The drinks served are mainly tea so the term hi-tea here is aptly used.

Yelp
Not bad for a lazy afternoon with a couple of girlfriends. The food quality is so so but the tea quality is excellent! ! Highly recommend to drink "the number 1 tea". It is black tea with a strong vanilla taste and aroma. Simply divine!

Yelp
"...OUT OF ALL THE PLACES WE ATE, IN SINGAPORE.. THIS WAS MY FAVE.. ~ AND THAT'S SAYING A LOT...!!! The 5 of us, from Melbourne - Australia, spent 12 glorious days in Singapore - Oh gosh... I love this city... We'll be back next year - NO DOUBT AT ALL...!!! We ate at lots, and lots of places... But the 'Traditional English Afternoon Tea Buffet' at CAFE L'ESPRESSO, in the BEAUTIFUL Goodwood Park Hotel STILL STANDS OUT as one of the BEST...!!! Actually, the whole experience: Place; Comfort; Service; Food & Beverages; Value for Money was my HIGHLIGHT of Singapore... Please, if in Singapore - DO NOT MISS THIS...!!! Visited in mid December 2015 whilst on family holiday

Yelp
There are two restaurants in Goodwood Park Hotel that serve high tea buffet. Of which, one dish out local dishes while the other dish out traditional english high tea. I had not tried their english high tea buffet and decided to give it a try. Boy, was I disappointed. I would have expected better food and drinks from this restaurant. They limit to 2 drinks per pax and the drinks were rather diluted. The food selection was limited and nothing particularly impressive. Defintely not worth the price. I think I would have enjoyed myself better at their Coffee Lounge.
