"This bright modern bistro is the HQ of Frenchman Charles Thuillant and Korean Mi-Ra, a globetrotting couple who met in Ze Kitchen Gallery, a mecca of French-Asian cuisine. But it was ultimately in Deauville, where Charles spent his holidays as a child, that they opened their own restaurant. Together, they conjure up vibrant, lively dishes in which Normandy country produce is melded with perfectly judged Asian influences, for example marinated fish in a mango-passion fruit seasoning; wagyu beef, smoked jus, samsang; nodi marini pasta, oyster, wakame, crunchy veggies… Spot-on service and a modern, cosy interior." - Michelin Inspector

Dining at L’Essentiel in Deauville was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped inside, the warm yet elegant atmosphere set the tone for an exceptional meal. The staff were welcoming and attentive, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness, which made us feel comfortable right away. The food lived up to its Michelin-star reputation. Each course was beautifully presented, with flavors that were refined yet approachable. The ingredients were clearly of the highest quality, and the chef’s creativity shone through in every dish—from the delicate starters to the perfectly balanced mains and desserts. Every bite felt thoughtful and memorable, a true celebration of French gastronomy. What made the experience even more special was the seamless pacing of the meal. It never felt rushed, allowing us to savor each course and enjoy the occasion fully. L’Essentiel is not just a restaurant, but a destination in itself—one I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Deauville.

This is a high end restaurant with big ambitions. We had the full experience and it was a great dinner with many different varieties of handcrafted dishes. Service was attentive and arranged a table outside for us as the weather allowed. If you are looking for a special experience I would recommend this place.

Exceptional Dining Experience! Most likely the best food in Deauville. The service was excellent. This is a true gastronomic restaurant offering great value for the quality. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch from start to finish, and especially appreciated the thoughtful touches—multiple mignardises and meticulous attention to detail throughout the meal. Sitting inside offers a nice view into the kitchen, which is a must-see! Highly recommended.

Good food but not terribly original. Fish was a bit tough but Wagyu beef was well-prepared. Appetizers were very standard and dessert just average. Good portion sizes but too long of a wait between courses. Had to ask for water. Excellent wine pairing - definitely 5 star there. Good distance between tables but not very attractive nor cozy interior. Overall a good experience and a very good value for the price.

The food is innovative and outstanding. Service is attentive and engaging. It’s a really interesting mix of French, Korean , Japanese flavours. Their take on beef tartare and ravioli with chorizo and Billie gin desert with touches of coriander and yazu were exceptional. The caramel desert was also good. Now for the main dish the Wagu beef: it’s really quite good with a spicy Korean paste BUT both of us ordered medium - one was fine the other came well done. So of course they re-did the plate. That took 20 min - which meant my companion finished when I started. They were polite but no apology, no offer of wine while waiting etc …. (So, I just ordered one and paid for it). Funnily, when the Wagu came again, while it was quite good it was half the size of the original serving. So can’t give all 5 stars and certainly not a Michelin star I am afraid. The chef is very engaging and made good wine and calvados recommendations and we enjoyed the experience overall.

What a fabulous lunch experience for a party of six. A lovely round table where you're able to watch the "action" in the kitchen. The bisque was especially delicious. The mâitre d' was lovely and the service was great. Wines from €50 were good quality and the menu @€45 was value for money.
