Lester's has been a part of the Fort Lauderdale landscape since 1967. Over the years they have opened additional locations. Having lived in South Florida for over 35 years, the location on SR84 is where I take out of town visitors to so they can experience Lester's.
If you have never been there, prepare yourself to read a really big menu. There are numerous options with breakfast items, sandwiches, salads and entrees. Like with many other diners, there are Greek options as well (and thankfully so). For today's visit, we ordered a burger which came with fries and slaw and a chicken souvlaki meal which came with a Greek side salad, fries and tzatziki sauce. I added the "meal option" for $8. 00 which included the drink and a premium dessert. (If have a sweet tooth and see the dessert options, you will probably do the same).
The food was good. The burger was cooked as ordered and juicy, the chicken kebabs were good, the outside was a little on the dry side. Fortunately, the inside was moist. We opted for the coconut creme pie which was mediocre. For my taste, there was way too much cream and not much coconut filling. For the price it was good.
The service today was minimal. The dining area we were seated in was not that busy. The server was friendly, but not that attentive. She had me order the dessert with the meal order which seemed a bit odd. When we finished the meal, the dishes were not cleared from the table, so we had a pile of dishes there while we shared the pie.
We will be back again. Afterall, it is Lester's, one of Fort Lauderdale's institutions.
