Where to Find the Best Pastries in Wicker Park and West Town | Eater Chicago

"Letizia’s has served Wicker Park pastry aficionados for more than two decades. Locals love its Italian baci di dama, almond croissants, and glazed scones. There’s also a large back patio and sidewalk seating on Division Street." - Naomi Waxman

Ordered the panini with chicken and bacon on it. It was absolutely pathetic at how little chicken they put on the sandwich. The photo shows one half, and the other half was identical. $14 for a panini with two scraps of chicken is a joke. Ambiance was nice, but the food is the most important part.

Letizia’s Natural Bakery is a charming spot with delightful pastries and tasty soups. The Berry Almond Tart was absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and a must-try! We also tried the Mushroom Panini, which was quite good, but the Eggplant Panini felt a bit dry. Overall, a great place for pastries and light bites!

Google
Ordered the Alexis Toast (Avo with micro greens) but they don't have micro greens in their kitchen "for over a year" "bc people don't like them"

Google
Great bakery and coffee cafe with cozy Italian vibes. All of the cookies and pastries are made in house and are very good. They also do soup, pannini, and bagels with a wide variety of toppings. Atmosphere is rustic with a lot of wood and an "old" feel to it. During summer there is both a back and sidewalk patio

Google
Worst experience I’ve had in restaurant in over a decade. Walked in no greeting, the lone employee had a bad attitude & wasn’t talking. A couple was standing in front of the cash register checking out so we went to look at the pastries. Waited patiently for over ten minutes, well after the couple had completed their transaction, he picks up the phone & pretends to be talking but never says anything. We just walked out at that point and were never acknowledged by staff. Only gave them a try because Lost Larson was closed, but we will never go here ever again, & I don’t recommend bothering trying to eat here.

Google
I had the grazer panini (veggie with mozzarella) and some baked goods. The panini was excellent and tasty. The cherry pie filling was a little bland but not too sweet and the crust was very tasty.

Google
I love this place!! The pesto pizza is so delicious and inexpensive. My boyfriend and I got two pizzas with two drinks for $20, not bad at all. I really like the coconut Italian soda I got as well. The backyard patio is so beautiful with all the plants and birds. Will definitely be coming here more often.

Google
I’m so glad they are open later than other bakeries in the area!! I got a box of treats for dessert after dinner. Service was friendly and I’ll definitely return for a panini- looks delicious!

Yelp
I was near this place for work so I tried their carrot muffins and the coffee Their muffins are delicious ! The coffee it's ok not bad

Yelp
Work brought me to the Chicagoland area, specifically, Wicker Park. I'm staying in a company Condo and arose with a strong hunger and went on a search for something to satisfy. Normally I'm a classic breakfast or breakfast burrito sorta guy but those options in my immediate area were not available so I opted for what appears to be a Chicago fave - the breakfast sandwich. A couple of doors down is Letizia's. I arrived, strolled in at an early hour and found the counter and ordered an American Breakfast Sandwich. (Eggs, bacon, potatoes, mozzarella on toast. They had a lot of other goods on display which looked tasty but I needed protein more than carbs. In Wicker Park you'll see quite a few couples with one baby in a stroller accompanied by a dog. It's the vibe-and a good one. Young, urban trendy parents raising happy kids, with a dog in tow, who may be called upon to protect if the occasion arose. I waited for a few minutes for the order which means it was being made fresh in the back-which I definitely appreciated. I took my order back to the crash pad and opened it up and enjoyed. The bread had a good crisp, the eggs were done perfectly, the bacon was tasty and the melted cheese held things together as intended. I will likely stop in again, thanks for the Chicago Breakfast Sand Letizia!

Yelp
What a gem! I'm almost happy I don't live in the neighborhood because I would have to come here every day. Their fresh pastries are DELICIOUS and their coffee is great, too. Fast and friendly folks behind the counter and a nice little ambiance and way to start the day.

Yelp
Fantastic baked goods, paninis, soups, and mocha! The focaccia served with soups and paninis is divine. We've been coming here every week religiously for years and have yet to have a meal short of fantastic!

Yelp
Pump up the jam. Been here about 300 times in the last 2 years, single handedly paying employee salaries. An always good neighborhood staple. Ravello on a bagel is incredible.
google avatar

Yelp
My absolute favorite cafe! Delicious drinks, the food is incredible, and the pastries are absolutely the best. Everyone working there is kind and do a great job handling the busy hours :). It's a beautiful little spot to hang out.

Yelp
Ok I know I'm such a millennial for this but I really do LOVE me some avocado toast so was pleasantly surprised to see they had such a nice little selection. I went with the Moira: smoked salmon, capers, microgreens...delicious. Also came with a baby green salad which was bright and super fresh. The space is lovely as well with a beautiful outdoor patio. Great place to come to grab a morning/afternoon bite and catch a chill vibe.

Yelp
It's a Cute place . Nice menu . Friendly staff.............. if I'm in the area I'd return for sure.

Yelp
Vegan Panini with hummus, eggplant, sun dried tomatoes & arugula is soooooo good! They always have a vegan soup of the day and really good dirty chai lattes. This place has been open for over 15 years. There's a reason why. They're consistent with food quality and customer service. It also helps they open early and close late.

S K.

Yelp
I really like the muffins, salads and soups here. Good food, reasonable prices. Have been coming for years. However, the new staff with the blue hair is incredibly rude and lacks basic customer service. The first time I encountered them I thought it might be a bad day but had another encounter with them today and left feeling really put off. Don't be in a customer facing role if you're completely miserable and are pained to answer basic questions about the baked goods.

Yelp
My pastry was good. Latte was good. Wifi was bad. Not a good place to work, but seems nice for a casual hang out.

Yelp
I have ordered pickup and dined in many times since I moved to the area last summer. Each time everyone is friendly and my order is always hot and accurate. I appreciate the consistency & great eats/drinks. They never skip a beat! Definitely stop in and support this awesome local spot for breakfast or lunch if you're in the area!

Yelp
We came here for dessert after a meal on division, and they had a variety of baked goods to choose from. Everything looked tasty, and the cashier was very helpful. We tried the caramel cheesecake, tiramisu, almond tart, and double chocolate cookie. Nothing was that great- I would say the tiramisu was the best. Otherwise, everything was kinda dry/flavorless. Maybe we just picked the wrong items!

Yelp
Really tasty pastries. I ate about three and didn't feel bad for the rest of the day! It must be the quality of the ingredients because sometimes if I eat a handful of gummy bears I have to lay down for awhile. Their caramelized apple tart tasted like homemade apple pie and I definitely want to get one again. I also got their Moria toast (salmon, avocado, tomato, capers) and I was pleasantly surprised! It was super tasty and fresh. I will certainly come back when I want to treat myself and buy some breakfast.

Yelp
I don't know how there are so many great reviews. Staff was rude, order took long 10 mins with one person in front of me. I ordered the vesuvio & had to spit it out after one bite.. The smell and flavor made me gag. I don't know if the meat was spoiled or it was a bad combination. Also got a standard vanilla latte & all I taste is milk. for an 18$ order for a breakfast panini & small drink I would prefer starbucks at this rate.

Simin V.

Yelp
It is the best coffee and tart that I've ever had! Friendly people, nice place and all at the same place.

Elly E.

Yelp
the 1st I went in I had a Latte the restaurant was going though a busy time at that moment so it took my drink a while to get to me. I liked the latte so much I went back a 2nd and then a 3rd time. Both other times I went in, there was no line and no apparent reason for a wait. On my last 2 visits I decided to try other things from the menu. Unfortunately, I was made to wait each time without explanation. There was no reason for a wait time as the place was not busy. On each visit I had to ask about my order due to the long wait time. When I asked about my order, the people behind the counter seems confused. The staff seems to lack basic courtesy skills and should really be a little more perceptive and or communicatIve about the business.
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Friendly staff, a huge back patio for working on your laptop in a leisure afternoon, or read a book. The panini is very tasty. I also tried the cherry brownie and it was very delicious

Yelp
Been coming here for 15+ years. By far my favorite cookies & pastries in the city. They are so dense & delicious - you can tell they use fresh, high quality ingredients. Also the best tomato soup I've ever had (been wanting to steal the recipes for years). Great, secluded patio in the back with flowers & a fountain. Additional indoor seating and a street side patio in the front. It's also a great brunch alternative if you don't want to wait to be seated. The breakfast & lunch sandwiches, soups, and salads are fantastic. While service is quick, you can still lounge on the patio and chat like you would at a lengthy brunch. Highly recommend: oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, sugar cookie, seasonal muffins, the butter cookie sandwiches with chocolate in the middle, tomato soup, Alfredo tramezzini, and the grazer veggie sandwich.

Yelp
Came here to pick up some last minute items for a dinner when my friend and I were in the area this past summer. We chose a variety of different pastries, including 2 of their mini fruit pies. This place is a natural bakery, so they use no preservatives in their items. That said, the pastries we got were definitely not fake tasting, if that makes any sense, though I thought they were a little on the dry side. Their savory items looked quite good, too, so I'd certainly consider coming back here for lunch or breakfast, if I happened to be in this area again.

Yelp
I've been going here for years, I remember coming here when I was in high school and that was in 2003. They haven't disappointed me yet, their caramel macchiato is delicious, I believe all of their pastries are delicious!!! I recently went back took some friends and they loved it too!!! Highly recommend it also the workers are super friendly!!

Yelp
Overall great environment to get some work done. Their coffee and breakfast sandwiches are AMAZING!!

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! It doesn't look like anything too spectacular from the outside but the inside feels very homey and welcoming. I got a panini and it was delicious. I am definitely coming back!

Yelp
Three notes about my experience this morning: 1) The blueberry muffin was perfectly crumbly, big and aesthetically pleasing. In terms of flavor, it was bland to me, but my kids loved it...including my daughter, who really prefers plain flavors (anything beyond ketchup is considered "spicy" in her world, for perspective). Which means that the muffin is perfect for almost any kind of child that I know. 2) The chocolate croissant was also perfectly flaky, but didn't give me that French buttery feel that I love about a good croissant. The creamy chocolate inside was fine, not world-class, but to Leitizia's credit, there is a LOT of chocolate inside of these things! 3) Do with this what you will, but of the 11 customers inside around 8:30 AM on a Monday, EIGHT of them were cops. I can't speak to the coffee experience since I don't drink it. Space is great and plenty of it if you want to bring your family to dine in here. For the size of my treats, very happy with the value proposition.

Elise K.

Yelp
This place is ridiculously expensive hahahaha. $7.50 for a latte and they didn't even fill my cup the whole way? There are so many coffee shops & bakeries in Wicker Park/ UKV that are much better quality at a lower price.
google avatar

Tempie M.

Yelp
On my way to pampered myself, I stop at this bakery for a water and ended up getting a brownie. These walnut brownie was massive, so huge end up requesting it be cut in half. I enjoy half at the time and didn't wait until later to eat the rest. So you can say it was great cheat treat. Will be return for those lemon bars!!! Enjoy!
google avatar

Zoraida B.

Yelp
What's nice about this place is that there's outdoor patios. Their breads and shortbread and sandwiches are tasty, and with bigger portions. Personally I like their panini and their caramel cheese cake is really a hit. My coworkers go here almost everyday to buy their coffee and sandwiches. We go here occasionally too just to do our department huddle.. Their apple cider is my new favorite - perfect for the cold weather!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow I didn't realize how crazy things are outside of Florida. With that said I'm giving a high rating because support local they need it more than ever. But I'm not just giving a high rating because of it they actually have great service and amazing homemade food.
google avatar

Yelp
This bakery is fantastic!! The restaurant next to it, "Enoteca Roma", is also delicious. This place is filled with hardworking people who try to put out the best quality foods. I especially love their chocolate walnut turnovers!! The matcha lattes here are amazing too. My go-to sandwich is the Mulberry St Panini. I love visiting this Letizia's Natural Bakery any time I want a quick coffee in the morning, a yummy sandwich for lunch, or even just to sit in their beautiful outdoor patio and read a book. The atmosphere here is so peaceful and friendly and it always brings me joy to stop by. The staff is very nice and goes above and beyond for customers. This bakery is definitely a must-try spot for anyone coming to Wicker Park .

Yelp
I ordered a hot chocolate and started to drink it in my car ride to an an appointment. I realized after taking the first sip that it wasn't hot chocolate but coffee. It was too late for me to go back without missing my appointment. They should pay attention to the drinks they make as got someone's coffee and they got my hot chocolate. She even announced "hot chocolate". I tossed an almost $6 drink away.
google avatar

Chitowner S.

Yelp
We tried this place twice. Something is off with flavoring. There is way more milk chocolate options than dark. And dark chocolate taste is off. We think it's because of the quality of chocolate used, and that it may be heavy with alkali process. Also the seasonal key lime pie was more of a vanilla pie and too suddle of key lime
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
Their pollo toscano and BLT paninis have been delicious. Lemon poppyseed muffin was scrumptious as properly. The most effective cause I gave them 4 stars is due to the fact the guy making ready the espresso changed into not carrying gloves and put his palms all over the lids. The woman doing the paninis(maybe the proprietor) changed into wearing gloves. I'm returning to strive their other services.

Yelp
So happy to be back in Chicago for many reasons but one of them being that I'm able to get food and coffee from Letizia's again!! I was also so excited to see that they have oat milk now!! I ordered a latte with oat milk and a panini with hummus, eggplant, peppers (I can't remember what it was called) and it was fantastic. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie to-go for later and it was even better than I remembered. You can really taste the quality of ingredients that are used here. Definitely would recommend this bakery to anyone in Chicago, 100/10!

Yelp
Letizia's has been my Saturday morning go-to for years, as my hair salon is basically next door. But it just now occurred to me how much I low-key love it. I apologize to Ms. Letizia for not recognizing my affection for her baked goods. My bad. The coffee is always great, but the monster cookies and muffins are where the magic takes shape. These carby goddesses will warm you on a Chicago tundra morning, bring you to life from your hangover hell, and get you into the best of graces with a friend who needs a sweet pick-me-up. They also have a case to display their sandwich offerings, and while I am totally down to nosh on non-brekkie foods at brekkie time, I haven't gotten the courage to try a sandwich from here before 10 a.m. yet, as I'm usually in the area in the mornings. But I will, and I'll report back. I'm just that devoted. Can't miss: the apple muffin with a slightly crisp top and genuine cinnamon, and the chocolate chunk cookie... yummmmm... I can't wait to have another muffin! Oh, wait, I'm supposed to be focused on the sammies next time... sigh.

Yelp
This was quite a gem that I stumbled upon because the bakery I was looking to try is only open seasonally. However, I saw the words natural bakery and I was sold. Actually, you had me at bakery. Anyway, my companions and I had an Italian soda (mango), a latte, and a hot chocolate. We had the cream pastry to accompany our drinks. The latte, which I had, was well made with whole milk as I requested. The Italian soda was reminiscent of a spritzer and hot chocolate was, well, hot chocolate. Good location on a strip mall type setting with street parking. I recommend it.

Mary G.

Yelp
Great bakery. Amazing pasta. Outstanding customer service . If you are a scratch baker and prepare your own pasta you will love Letizia's!

Eric M.

Yelp
An excellent neighborhood coffee shop and bakery. The back patio is gigantic, beautiful, and somewhat hidden so it feels like a private park. I've had the coffee, paninis, and pastries and have been happy with everything.

Yelp
I tried a variety of their baked goods and was fairly impressed. Certain products were definitely better than others though. Their better products were definitely the cookies. I tried their honey, peanut butter chocolate, lemon, and sugar cookie. The best one overall was definitely their sugar cookie. It was incredibly thick yet soft and had generous sugar on top. I'm usually not a fan of sugar cookies because I find them boring but this one stood out with its unique sweetness and the wonderful moisture and texture to it. The lemon cookie was also very soft and had such tasty lemon icing on top. The honey cookie was so cute to look at, as you can see in the picture, and was so soft it practically fell apart in my hands. The peanut butter cookie was my least favorite as it was quite dry, hard, and stale. The pies were not their best items. They were all quite hard and bland, especially the crust. They were adorable to look at but didn't match in taste. The ratio of fruit filling to crust was way off so it was definitely disappointing. Their other great items were the tiramisu and cheesecake. The tiramisu was so moist with a unique whipped cream on top while the cheesecake was classic. They overall had such a large variety, I'm sure there is something for everyone.

Ofelia C.

Yelp
Wonderful Sicilian bakery; the BEST cappuccino that I've had since I went to Italy! The bakery goods r wonderful! Staff super nice and courteous!

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop alá pastry shop. They have been here 23 years: I remember when they opened.

Yelp
Letizia's coffee is worth the extra steps west of Damen for those that suffer from the "I don't do west of Damen" affliction. Better yet, you folks need to stop here for some coffee and continue west past Western for some great tacos. I digress, back to Letizia's. They've been here for some time now, seems to be a constantly changing landscape along Division. They've managed to stand the test of time for the following reasons. *Cozy yet spacious *Really clean, wonderfully displayed baked goods. *Variety, everything from salads, sandwiches to dessert *Friendly no attitude service I make it a point to stop in when I'm in the area, this last time I grabbed a couple of cookies to go. They're cookies are the real deal, they happen to be a bit weighty, you might want to consider only a few bites at a time. If you're getting them to go and getting more than one, have them bagged separately or something put between them as they may stick together. Don't get me wrong, they still tasted very good, but they did look (Trump voice) sad. The cookie pictured is a lemon iced, get this if you really like lemon, very tart and sweet with a big lemon punch, not like some lemon cookies that look yellow with only a faint taste of lemon. After many years, still a solid place to go to, in fact they've improved over the years.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 12 years. Salads are fantastic, although an occasional chicken bone gets in the chicken salad. Everything is fresh, made every morning. Fantastic muffins, amazing. Not a fan of the frosting on the cupcakes, but fantastic cream of tomato soup and bread.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Super friendly and amazing breakfast pastries. Great A/C and wifi to work at. Calm music and environment. Outdoor & indoor seating is pretty
google avatar

B R.

Yelp
As most other reviewers have said, the coffee and pastries are great, but what I just discovered is how large their back patio is! It's peaceful, shaded and you can enjoy your coffee while hearing birds sing. A hidden neighborhood gem.
google avatar

Carly C.

Yelp
Great little oasis hidden right on division street! There's a babbling brook fountain in the back patio that makes for the perfect place for a peaceful morning sit to work on your computer or catch up with a friend. Delicious breakfast paninis, pastries, and specialty coffee drinks too. Couldn't be better!

J B.

Yelp
I used to love this place and have been coming here for years but it's gone downhill fast. The staff is rude, it takes FOREVER for them to make sandwiches or avocado toast (20+ min even with no other customers waiting), and the expense isn't worth it. $17 for an egg sandwich and a latte and the sandwich was inedible. I felt sick to my stomach the whole day after one bite and threw the rest away.
google avatar

Tess M.

Yelp
I love this place. I've ordered twice now for delivery of sandwiches and pizzas and let me tell you- amazing each and every time. The PESTO PIZZA is to die for. So good. Would highly recommend for anyone that wants a quick lunch!
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
Are you a night owl that is always frustrated that all the bakeries are closed super early? I am, but Letizia's Natural Bakery just came to my rescue last night! I walked in around 7:30/8:00 and I must mention I was impressed with the COVID safety measures, there are napkins positioned by the door so you can safely tough the door handle, stickers on the floor guiding where to stand and a large plastic window protecting the employees (which is always important to me when patronizing a business!) Immediately I was greeted by whom I believe was Letizia, she was very enthusiastic to help me as soon as possible and patiently explained what deserts were what, I ended up taking 3 chocolate chip cookies, 1 oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, 1 oatmeal raisin cookie, 1 raspberry crostata, and 2 banana nut muffins (1 of which was on the house!) Everything so far is really great and I was delighted that the cookies were soft and not crunchy even the next morning! I will be back to try everything else!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Food is amazing and all natural ingredients. The garden patio in the back is a hidden gem! Perfect for working, grabbing coffee with friends, enjoying the sunshine. Feels like an oasis in the middle of busy wicker park.
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
This is the kind of place that will transport you to another time or place. For me, that place is Portland, OR where everyone takes time a little slower and ensures their food is just as pure as they are. I can't wait to check out their back patio this summer.
