The 20 Best Restaurants On Martha’s Vineyard 2024

"Maybe after a day of hiking or chilling at the beach, you and your person want to ball out with a fine French bistro meal. This is the spot to do that right in the center of downtown Edgartown. Set in a restored whaling captain’s house, you can dine in one of the many cozy rooms, or skip that and roll on up to the more casual bar for great cocktails and the same food. That menu is (not surprisingly) heavy on seafood, and that’s exactly what you should order. Try the chilled Katama Bay oysters with preserved limoncello cream and pomegranate mignonette, some seared East Coast halibut, and definitely explore the selection of farmstead cheeses. " - tanya edwards

L’étoile Restaurant provides an exceptional upscale dining experience within a beautiful setting, both indoors and outdoors. Located inside the hotel, the ambiance is perfect for an intimate dinner or a family outing. The hostess and staff were friendly and professional, making the evening even more enjoyable. I began my meal with the pan-seared, spice-crusted fresh La Belle Farm duck foie gras, which was honestly the best foie gras I've ever tasted. The charred factor added a unique twist, enhancing the flavor without overpowering the delicate texture, allowing the foie gras to still melt in your mouth. For the entrée, I chose the étuvée of 1 1/2-pound Menemsha lobster, a dish bursting with flavor. The sauce, highlighted by roasted garlic, truly made the lobster shine. To finish, I enjoyed an espresso martini, one of the best I've had in a long time. This version used chocolate liquor, offering a delightful twist on the classic drink. While I wasn't a fan of the "Matcha My Freak" and "Whistle While You Work" cocktails, I suspect it was more due to my personal taste preferences. Despite this, I am eager to return and try other drinks on the menu. Overall, L’étoile Restaurant is a fantastic location for an elegant dining experience. I highly recommend it for those seeking a sophisticated meal in a picturesque setting.

The service is excellent, the cocktails are amazing. The food is very good, but pricey. The dining room atmosphere is a little plain, the bar side is beautiful. Never going to be disappointed.

The dining experience here is formal and classy. With white table clothes and plenty of greenery around it makes for a nice date night out. The food was very good but just shy of being excellent. It’s a must stop if in Edgartown whether you want dinner or a few drinks.

My wife and I came here for her birthday dinner. The waitress, Marry Beth and the others that waited on us were top notch, they provided us with the best service! Marry Beth was very helpful at explaining how the foods were prepared and was very attentive along with the rest of the staff. The food was great, from the starters to the desert it was absolutely delicious. We couldn't have asked for a better eperience with the service or food, we will certainly be back!

We went to L’etoile for the first time and it was truly an amazing experience. The outside dining tables were cozy and warm and the dishes were one of a kind. The service was outstanding and our server, Luka, was a true professional and never missed a beat!

My Wife and I had an amazing dining experience at L'Etoile from the moment we arrived to good bye! We ate out in the front yard which made all the difference. The lawn dining area / open tent is close enough to the street to see people go by but not too close for comfort. The garden area as you walk in was in peak bloom. It was a cool summer night with soft blues playing from a bar close by. We had Oysters Two-Styles. I Never had an oyster with cream in the shell, very good and std vinegar type. Excellent. The Menemsha Lobster was prepared perfectly and so was the Rack of Lamb Chops. I would go back in a heartbeat but it took months to get a reservation. Cost for dinner and drinks for two was $213 + tip. A real night to remember.

My husband and I had dinner at l'etoile for our wedding anniversary and we're impressed by the restaurant's ambience, food, and level of service. Food: - Braised short ribs ($22) were delicious but it was the maple-smoked cheddar polenta that temped us to lick the plate clean - Lamb chop ($52) was delicious, no gamey-ness at all. The accompanying spinach and roast tomato grape leaf tartlet seemed random but was very tasty! - Lobster ($68) was delicious, as was the pasta. That said, this entree was spendy. Ambience: Like many businesses in Edgartown, this restaurant is in a house, with seating on the front lawn on Adirondack chairs, inside in tastefully renovated rooms with mood lighting, or outside under a semi-permanent tent that still has tables dressed with white tablecloths and decorated as tastefully as the restaurant's indoor dining tables. Service: The staff were very friendly, attentive, well-trained, quick with the water refills, and not too stuffy or pompous. We felt very welcome! Parking: Street parking only, which can be hard to come by in the area, even during the off season.

This was a great experience. Good food and cocktails, also amazing service. Loved the Australian influence, especially the lamb and the pavlova. Everything we ordered tasted fantastic, including the drinks. Definitely try the Startini, and if you like Bellinis drink the Syndeytini. We felt like the price was appropriate for the food/experience. And very reasonable for Martha's Vineyard. Also I loved the pea and asparagus soup. Yes good enough for its own paragraph.

Yelp
We had a wonderful birthday dinner for my husband this evening. The staff were incredible and the food was outstanding. We split a dozen oysters to start. My husband had the braised short rib and I had the duck - both were fantastic. We split the creme brûlée for dessert.

Yelp
Stale vibe. Sat in the bar, very slow service. Watched my drink order sit on the server mat for 10 minutes even after my appetizer arrived. Food was nothing special - succulent oysters were overpowered, not complimented by sauces. Duck was uninspired and unoriginal. The saving grace was my wife's lamb as it was delicious. Her sides were a disappointment however, fried sweet potato chips, shaved Brussel sprouts, and small cauliflower pieces were a miss.

Yelp
The food is excellent! Waitress is quite personable and the place is a little bit formal, noise level is low but you don't really need to hush hush to talk. I truly enjoyed the soft shell crab appetizer as well as the duck. They were delicious. Won't mind coming here again when visiting Edgartown

Yelp
This place is incredible. Let's talk about the decor first. Gorgeous, simple sophistication. The have an outside area that's under a tent but we sat in the dining room right by the fireplace. The bar area is beautiful. I love how they have the star theme throughout but in a very pretty way. The outside is beautiful. They have 5 lawn chairs in the front surrounded by gorgeous hydrangeas and flowers, it's such a heavenly looking spot. The service was superb, superb, superb. Our waitress, Charlotte, was incredible. Very friendly. Genuine smile. I felt like we were in great hands. She was very attentive and detail oriented. The hostesses were very professional and sweet. The food was delicious. I had the lamb and it was so tasty. My husband is a very picky eater and he ate everything on his plate. He had the duck and it looked like it had cooked/grilled bok choy and my husband raved about it! I never thought he would eat, let alone love bok choy. But he loved it. His dish looked incredibly delicious. I had the rhubarb-berry pavlova and it was so good! It was so sweet and it looked so pretty. I loved it. I highly recommend this place. You must come here.

Yelp
Came in for an 8pm reservation, we were seated right away. The service was impeccable. The food was the best meal we had on the island during this stay! We split the surf and turf as well as a few starters. The rhubarb desert was 100/10! It was my husbands birthday and they came out with a little candle on the dessert, thank you!

Yelp
A solidly good meal on the Vineyard. Nothing impressively stellar, but with so many places on the island, L'etoile came through. We sat inside, where the decor is muted and, honestly, a bit tacky with the star theme, but the lighting is pleasant and the sound quality is amenable to conversation. We started with a couple cocktails, and this restaurant has unfortunately succumbed to the trend of giving their drinks idiotic names, but we do have to say that both were wonderful. We started with the warm spinach salad, and we did love it. There was a nice amount of greens and we enjoyed the shaved cured yolk and diced egg whites; the bacon dressing wasn't greasy and we only wish we saw a specimen of the "frizzled red pepper" that was an ingredient included on the menu. Either way, great start. None of their entrees seemed that interesting to us, so we just stuck to "seconds" as our mains, and sized up for the braised short ribs. The crispy soft shell crab was incredible: so nicely cooked with such a unique combination of flavors. The corn and fregola were in perfect harmony together texture-wise, and the entire dish was a triumph. We found the sauce on the braised short ribs to be a tad too sweet, but the meat was wonderfully tender and we liked the polenta underneath. The only complaint that we had about both dishes is that they were not hot. Like, not at all, and "room temperature" would almost be a euphemism, so a little more attention to plating/timing would serve them well. We skipped dessert to indulge at Ice Cream Candy Bazaar. Service was swift but effective with only a long delay in getting our second round of one drink being the singular issue. Again, your mind won't be blown, and expect to pay $$$$$$$$, but this was a good meal. 3.5 stars, rounding up.

Yelp
Anniversary dinner, top notch experience in Edgartown. The vibe was intimate and formal, with a cute exterior with hanging lights and a front lawn. The service was attentive and they did a nice candle on our dessert for our anniversary. My husband and I enjoyed the gnocchi and Spanish octopus, both well made, light, and flavorful. We shared the duck entree which was also extremely well made and delicious. Our dessert was the cream brûlée which had the perfect balance of textures, not too sweet. The cocktails were well made and we enjoyed a solid bottle of red during dinner as well. Would absolutely come back, and my husband is definitely a tough critic on French cuisine and loved it!

Yelp
Excellent food. Our best meal on the island so far (skip Detente). Loved the etuvee lobster entree, which came with lemon pepper pappardelle, but it was very heavy and buttery - could've used a bit less butter. My husband got the surf and turf, which was half the etuvee lobster and a 13 oz ribeye, which he enjoyed (and also came with the pappardelle). For starters, we loved the oysters two ways and the gnocchi with truffle. Both fantastic. The only disappointing item was the dessert. We got a white chocolate pistachio creme brûlée but the top coating was way too hard and thick. I did appreciate they put a candle on it to help celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. I'd recommend indoor dining - the outdoor dining is too hot without the AC and doesn't have as nice of an ambiance. There also appears to be a bar where you can order food as well, which might be a good option if you can't get a reservation. There was nothing available online so I called, and they managed to squeeze us in so also try calling. Also as a heads up, parking is very difficult so plan in advance for that. Luckily we walked from our hotel.

Yelp
This restaurant has great ambience. Our friend is a bartender there. We had the lobster, braised short ribs, and sweet potato and truffle gnocchi. We also had delicious drinks. If you are in Martha's Vineyard, you should check them out.

Yelp
High quality experience- food, service and ambiance. I had the surf and turf with ribeye. Flavors of the sauce were very good. Lobster was fresh and good parts of the lobster were served. Flavorful steak and a good cut served. Satisfying experience.

Yelp
Overall a very positive experience. Attractive although tightly packed dining room. Staff was super attentive and completely professional. Food was top notch, innovative and beautifully flavored. One huge faux pas with an overcooked lobster tail in the étouffée. Boo! Extensive wine menu which was fairly priced.

Yelp
4 of us had dinner reservations at 6:45 on a Tuesday evening. 3 1/2 stars is more accurate. ATMOSPHERE: Inside is classy, beautifully decorated, several rooms which provide a romantic and intimate feel. We did not sit in the tent section, but could see it was also tastefully done with greenery and lights. BAR: Well made drinks, however, for the price, the volume is lacking. My Tito's cosmo was tasty, but served in a coupe glass and charged $16. For this price, it should have been double the volume and served in an adult sized martini glass, which I could see they stocked at the bar. The modest wine pour of Rombauer Chard was $24, which is silly high. FOOD: After reading all the reviews of the truffle gnocchi, my expectations were set way too high. It was difficult to actually taste any truffle. So disappointing as I love truffle. The spinach salad was excellent, fresh ingredients, generous portion so easy to split. The Lamb Rack Chops were very good. Salted Carmel gelato was good, nothing special, but good. SERVICE: Our server was attentive and friendly, but had a few misses. When the apps arrived, my salad was missing. A second round of drinks were ordered but one of the wines which should have been red was a chard. One other in our party accepted the white, and a correct red was then delivered. It would have been a classy move not to charge for the mistakenly delivered white, but no recognition was made there, and another full charge of $24 was put on the bill as if we had ordered it. Our bill arrived with 2 charges which were not ours, which were then corrected after we pointed them out. Always awkward to have to ask the server to review the bill and ask for corrections. The couple in our party was celebrating an anniversary, so I asked if something special could be put in the gelato. Our server agreed, but when dessert arrived, there was no cookie or cute celebratory candle included. No recognition I had even asked or that it was forgotten. :( This place is pricy, and has some really nice aspects, however, did not meet my expectations and didn't earn 5 stars. 4 stars is on the generous side, but giving 3 seemed too harsh as the atmosphere and some of the food was quite good.

Yelp
My first experience of Martha's Vineyard was at L'etoile! Straight from the airport, my friends took me out and man did they! What a beautiful space. They currently only do outdoor seating, on the lawn and under tents, with heaters. The area was decorated so nicely. The staff was incredible. Friendly, attentive and they caught my name and called me by it all night. IMPRESSIVE!!! Than you MB for making it such a great night. The menu is limited, but I was able to find something that tempted my appetite. We shared a couple of orders of sautéed potato and truffle gnocchi! They were Devine. Man did we love those. I could have had them all night long and been a happy man. For our meals, I had the seared halibut with baby watercress chimichurri. Was not sure exactly what I was going to get, but when it arrived, I was blown away by the presentation and the taste. What a way to start my first MV visit. My friend ordered the short ribs and stopped talking for awhile. They were good. The dessert options are so worth it. You have to try them. The gelato was out of this world. I should have started with that. We made our reservation and they were able to seat us a bit earlier since my flight arrived early. We were able to sit and enjoy each other's company while enjoying the fabulous meal and a nice bottle of wine. What a great place! Thank you for a wonderful evening and I do plan on returning.

Yelp
Great experience at L'etoile. Upon arrival was lead to the outside tent. It was covered in greens and white lights which had a cozy, elegant vibe. Tables had sufficient space between them and the service was excellent. Food was fantastic. My favorite was the foil gras. It was bursting with flavor and had a nice balance of sweet and salty---- and just melted in your mouth! I would almost give 4.5 stars as it is pricy---- so be aware the bill will add up quickly.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was excellent and atmosphere was island. Fish was the best. Cooked perfectly

Yelp
This restaurant was located in a cute little historic Coco Inn. It was very quiet and they made you feel really welcome perfect service and attention. We have the lobster dinner and it was really great. It was the best mail we had on the Vineyard. Can't wait to go back here.

Yelp
I don't know exactly what to say in 65 words. Food, service, ambiance were all first rate. We have been in Martha's Vinyard for 5 days. Many great restaurants. None of them were better than L'etolle!

Yelp
For an occurrence to become an adventure, it is necessary and sufficient for one to recount it, and I implore that your own adventures should take you to L'Etoile. The manicured grass pathway to the elegant Greek Revival mansion in the heart of Edgartown that hosts L'Etoile is flanked on one side by guests, lounging in Adirondack chairs atop manicured grass, sipping drinks in anticipation of their placement by the host at either the small tables on the adjacent lawn or the canopied patio along the side yard. I would suggest you arrive fifteen minutes before your reservation to enjoy a leisurely moment in those chairs and whet your appetite, imbibing one of the specialty cocktails, such as the 'Startini', which are superb. During my pleasant wait, I was brought a perfectly crafted Basil Hayden's Old fashioned and enjoyed possibly my favourite moment of the weekend. Our table was on the front lawn and was well shielded from the passers-by on Water street while retaining the open-air feel of being outdoors on a beautiful summer night. We are our choices, and we chose to precede our entrées with the raw oysters. As a New Englander, I'm typically a purist when it comes to shellfish; light lemon to add zest to the natural sapidity of my favourite appetizer and nothing more. The chef took a bold approach and flavoured the raw oysters with a limoncello and pomegranate mignonette which spectacularly added to the flavour without overwhelming the subtle complexities of fresh shellfish. For my entrée, I elected to try the rib-eye, medium-rare. The steak was cooked to the precise temperature with a flavourful port sauce. Similar to my taste in shellfish, I prefer a fine cut of steak to be sparingly altered, however, I break from this dogma in the case of French cuisine, and I was greatly rewarded for doing so. At the suggestion of our waiter, my girlfriend selected the pan-roasted duck. I've spent considerable time in Beijing, where duck is a delicacy, and the chefs of the east would marvel at the creation being served at L'Etoile. Remarkable skill was shown by preserving the moistness within the lean, sliced breast. The tangerine honey & pickled ginger sauce perfectly enhanced the flavour. The purpose of spending time on Martha's Vineyard is to savour life amidst the natural beauty of the island and create memories with those whose company you cherish. If you embody that outlook, then a centrepiece of your time on the island must include dining at L'Etoile.

Yelp
This place was amazing. When we walked up to the outdoor seating on the front lawn, it had a home town and cozy vibe. The man in front of us, Bob, was a local celebrity and regular at the restaurant. We wanted to sit with Bob, but he was too cool for us apparently. We sat on the pack patio/seating area. Our service Shaun/Sean was great. We ordered the gnocchi, gazpacho, lamb chops, and the surf and turf. The gnocchi was one of the best I've ever had. It was sautéed or roasted with a slight browning and crispiness to the bottom--delicious! Not saucy, so I could take the actually flavor of the pasta. The entrees were good, my lamb was a bit undercooked to my liking, but flavorful. The server was excellent and really made the experience for us. He explained that most of the people there were regulars and visited MV once a week in the summer, so there was a very local feeling to the place. The chef has been there for over 20 years and his patrons live it up! The dessert was a selection of gelato and some other pastries/pies. We had the crumble and the salted caramel gelato. Both were pretty decent. We will come back next time we visit the vineyard and hopefully we see Bob again and are waited on by Shaun/Sean!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in a historic home in the center of Edgartown. We ate out in the covered patio. Great ambiance and service. We both ordered the lamb 3 ways and it was amazing. The sauce on the oysters was inventive but the oysters themselves were almost nonexistent in size. Other than that, overall wonderful experience.

Julia C.

Yelp
This place is cute and cozy. We ordered soup and gnocchi for appetizers and surf and turf for dinner. The food was good, but the lobster was a bit overcooked. Our drinks were the best part honestly. They were delicious. The service was good, quick, and friendly. Not sure I'd come again just because of the price. Feels like I could get food that tastes as good for cheaper.

Yelp
I'll give them the nod. Our experience dining in their "tent" (presumably set up because of covid) wasn't perfect. We never did figure out what was up with our server who, during our dinner, seemed like he was distracted or otherwise had something going on other than dinner service. But what wasn't perfect with the ambiance or service was made up for by the fairly excellent cuisine. The stand-out was the gnocchi... Perhaps the best we've had? It was very special. The other dishes were also very good- including the steak, lobster, and foie gras. All-in-all, no regrets here...
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
The duck was tough to eat. The short ribs were super barbecue-y. Meaning they had a sweet vibe to them. Good, but not over the top hood. The steak was good. I would say that that was our table's best dish.

Yelp
TLDR The Tuna Tartare is the worst We came to the vineyard for my bf's birthday and decided to try L' etoile because they had two of our favorite things on the menu, foie gras & tuna tartare. We had an early reservation so we could go out in Oak Bluffs later on in the night (6pm). We were seated as soon as we walked in and service was excellent throughout the night. I ordered "the star treatment" and it was delicious. They used fresh grapefruit juice and it was an excellent cocktail. Now onto the food. We weren't very hungry so we decided on sharing a few apps. We ordered the tuna tartare, foie gras, and short ribs. The tuna tartare was horrible. It was fishy, small, and we barely ate half before giving up. Also, it came with cabbage slaw at the bottom? Really? They can't afford to add avocado for a $21 price point? We get tuna tartare in Boston all the time. It's always roughly $20 and it's FRESH (the best one is at Neptune Oyster). Anyways, it was terrible. I would recommend they fix it or take if off the menu. The foie gras on the other hand...it was pretty good. $28 is pretty high for foie but not unheard of. The foie was small but we enjoyed the flavors and it came together nicely. The short ribs were a little bizarre. I was surprised it was on the menu because it seemed out of place in comparison to the rest of the dishes at L'etoile. It was good but not great. Also a bit high in price for what you get ($19). I think that this place has pretty crazy high prices for food that is no where near as good as Boston restaurants. Not worth it.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant and I'm a local! I 100% recommend!! My boyfriend and I went just cause "why not" and it did not disappoint. We started off with the gnocchi and the short ribs. You could tell the gnocchi was made in house. Super airy and just perfect. Truffle was not over powering which was good. The short rib was like butter! I ended up getting the 'surf and turf' for dinner, AMAZINGGGG. My boyfriend got the 'rack of lamb' and he loved it as well. Also, our server, Sean, was a pleasure. He was able to crack some jokes with us and was very attentive.

Yelp
Lovely lovely restaurant. I think they have a bar indoors and some seating there, but the main restuarant is in the garden. Its in the Sydney hotel but I didnt see a lot of hotel guests dining in the garden. Lets start with the place, which is just truly lovely. I loved the outdoor patio where you can sit for a drink, its a circular terrace/ veranda and feel like you are really in savannah. The drinks were great too, I had the peach martini which wasnt super sweet, so I recommend it. The dining area is a garden, covered on top, with lots of fairy lights and balloon lanterns. I would come just to sit in here. The food was incredible, shout out to the steak and the rack of lamb, both cooked to medium rare perfection. The halibut didnt win too many stars, and neither did the veggie crepes, but the cheese was good in terms of variety. They do have a tasting menu as well but we chose a combination of entrees and apps instead. Big big points for service. All the wait staff was excellent with us- shout outs to Vlad and Caroline who were the nicest people- and the manager was good enough to check in on us as well. Made for a lovely evening. They were good with helping my friends navigate the menu too- one has severe allergies and the others are vegetarians. Be warned that they take a cc for groups of 6 or more and there is a cancellation fee if you dont inform them more than 24 hours in advance- however, they did call and confirm the number of people and reservation twice before so I'll definitely be back when on the island. thanks for everything etoile!

Danetta B.

Yelp
The food was decent - I would have given it high 3 or 4. The only off note on my food was the inclusion of a parmesan crisp with the spring vegetable soup - too harsh a note with such delicate flavors. And the soup needed to be pureed more for a smoother texture. The service, however, was abominable - some of the worst I've had in my 56 years, and certainly not what I expect when dropping over $1K on a special occasion dinner. There was one perceived problem, which we all would have understood, but which was handled very badly - I had ordered two cocktails (for me - was coming out of a nap so wanted to start with the espresso martini but then move to my more normal order of a bourbon/rye based cocktail). I allowed my daughter to taste the espresso martini b/c she is a certified bartender in MA and it is good for training. She did NOT order and intend to drink a cocktail. Staff took up this issue with her when they knew it was her birthday dinner. It should have been handled directly with me, and they never should have bothered her as the guest of honor. Things went downhill from there. She was in tears/near tears for the remainder of the two hour dinner, feeling that she was being admonished for something she didn't do. No staff ever picked up the martini glass after I finished it - in two hours. With multiple opportunities. Even by the time we paid the bill. Every other dish was eventually cleared. I had to wait over 20 minutes for an iced tea - which I had to order twice, having to flag someone down the second time. Suddenly our table was ghosted, despite light traffic that evening. I had to run someone down to get our check - and she responded in a manner that can only be described as "huffy/bothered", like she was doing me a favor. If you don't want my $1K, then I am happy to leave without paying. Finally, the staff made sure that the tip was pre-included (theoretically due to our party size), giving us no chance to protest with the tip. Let me make this crystal clear - the snotty/odd behavior by the waitstaff was not due to a busy night/volume, it felt very intentional. We also made it clear that we were celebrating not only my daughter's birthday, but also the upcoming birthday of the 90+ year old matriarch with us. They only provided the birthday candle for my daughter, who then shared hers with the older woman. Managers, please retrain your waitstaff - we ended up talking about the mean-spirited, inappropriate service instead of how good the food was, and what a beautiful day to celebrate a birthday. Your team ruined my daughter's birthday evening.

Yelp
Stopped in after dinner for an espresso martini. We sat on their Adirondack chairs in the front yard sipping away on the most delicious martini I've ever had. Love this little place. It's cute and cozy.

Yelp
Cocktails only. And boy do they make great drinks! Had been intrigued by the signature "Startini" with vodka, pomegranate purée, lime juice & a Prosecco topper. Garnished with star fruit. Fiancé had his usual Ketel One up with one olive. Made perfectly. Our bartender was very talented and efficient and somehow was still able to smile when a bar patron felt entitled and was a jerk. Sure that happens more than it should. Great bar snacks too. Saw a couple entrees being served at the bar. Presentation was fantastic and based on the "clean plate club" they must have been delicious!

Yelp
We spent our 44th wedding anniversary here last week and it was magical. The hostess seated us at a wonderful table on the patio. Sarah the bartender is such a lovely person. Sarah sang us a song for our anniversary. The atmosphere and the food was all wonderful. I can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
Amazing!!!! From the service to the meal everything was fabulous. The oysters and gnocchi was prob the best I've ever had and I've eaten in many high end restaurants. Kayla was our server and she was wonderful. The outdoor dining and ambiance was truly enjoyed.

Yelp
Very highly recommended spot in Edgaterown for dinner. Expensive meal. But lacking good service and honestly i have eaten better food. We reserved a late table which was given away to a newly wed couple. So we sat elsewhere. No biggie. 45 mins to get our drinks and we ordered straight up whiskey. Server had to be asked to bring plates so we could eat a sharable dish. Wife had the halibut which was dry in thr inside. I had the lqmb chops that were just ok. I've had better. The dessert (cream brule) was ehnn!!! Again. Seemed like it was late so the chef lost her wind and just was sending dishes out. Maybe wed have had a better experience a another time there are much better meals on the island to be had in my opinion.

Yelp
I can't rave about this restaurant enough. The service was fantastic and friendly, and the food was absolutely fantastic. We had the foie gras, octopus, and lamp chops. Everything was perfectly cooked. The foie gras was so gently cooked, it melted in our mouths. The octopus was like slicing through butter, it was so tender. The lamb chops were a perfect medium rare and so incredibly tasty. I'd come back to Edgartown just to eat here.

Yelp
If you are looking for a fabulous dinner in Edgartown, you'll find it at L'etoile. This is our go-to for fine dining every summer. An upscale but not-stuffy atmosphere complimented by a friendly & attentive staff. I've often referred to Chef Michael Brisson's Duck Foie Gras as the "best bite in earth" and I still believe it. When I think of this restaurant, the foie gras is the first thing that pops into my mind. It's an every visit must-order for starters. My wife will often ask for a double order for dinner and a salad. It's my every visit appetizer. Seriously, you'll be hard-pressed to find any better anywhere! We've tried. If you like lobster, and if you're coming to the vineyard, I'm imaging you do, the native Lobster Etuvee at L'etoile is probably your best bet for an entree. Beautiful presentation, always fresh from the local waters and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Yelp
Soooooo the food was amazing. Lola was a great server. I just think she may have been a little stretched. The beginning of our meal was a little slow. And by a little i mean a lot. But the rest was right in line. The last complaint was our Togo food was never given to us. So we were having such a good time and they forgot so we had to go back for it.

Yelp
I sat at the bar here and had an excellent meal with delightful service. I ordered The Golden Hour to start - big mistake, much too sweet for me. The bartender very graciously swapped it for an Old Fashioned, which was spot on and much more to my taste. The steak was nearly perfectly cooked (would have liked just a tad more red for my medium rare order, but know I'm in the minority on that) and the bread was heavenly.

Yelp
One of the best dinners we had on the island. We sat outside underneath the tent and started off with their delicious bread followed by the foie gras. I wouldn't order the foie gras as it was over seasoned and quite small for the price ($29). The lobster was delicious and very filling (over 1.5 pounds). The creme brûlée and cocktails were delicious at this place.

Yelp
Firstly the hostess, from Memphis, is so sweet and hospitable. (Of course she is. She's from Memphis.)She checked a couple of times to make sure we were being taken care of. Maya, our server, was great. We ordered a shared plate of flank steak and a couple of drinks. I ordered a Startini, which was delish, and my daughter ordered a custom made drink ( Purple w a flower in it) the bartender invented. She lived it. The only glitches were the rude waitess( older w a ponytail), who reprimanded my daughter for thinking she could be served a drink in the tent area, after being told we could sit anywhere. The second glitch was ordering medium rare flank steak and it came well done. But Maya was gracious and we were able to get the correct order. The ambiance is very inviting and we'd return again.

Yelp
We had the raw Oysters and Cheese plate. Both were fine. The oysters have a Mignonette sauce on them (two kinds - Berry and Garlic/plain). They appeared freshly opened and were quite good. The cheese plate was also nice. We ate at the bar and the bartender was a little distant and hard to get when you needed a refill but she could have had an off day. My impression was that this was a very nice place with highly professional kitchen and staff. If you have the chance to sit in one of the large chairs on the lawn it's worth it to spend some time watching people go by. They are very comfortable and people on the street are great to interact with or observe. It's a cute place with dining under a tent and inside dining room. Tiny bar was fine but loud. I would definitely go back and try the full menu.

Yelp
I've been to l'etoile many times and the food and service has usually been "ok" however I will NEVER be returning. After my friend tested positive for Covid (and I was exposed) on the morning of our dinner reservation I called the restaurant to cancel. I spoke with a "less than helpful" woman who said it would cost me $100 for a "NO show fee". After getting nowhere with her and after she refused to put the owner on the phone she told me I would NOT be charged if they filled our two seats that night. Well I checked later that night and they did fill our two seats and confirmed that they were fully committed. I decided to email the owner who has not even had the decency to correct the situation. In these times when everyone is so hypersensitive to Covid I find it impossible that I did the right thing in cancelling our reservation and l'etoile choose to punish us for it. Also not sure how cancelling a reservation could be called a "no show fee" . How does l'etoile choose to keep $100 instead of keeping a loyal customer. I will not support a restaurant that will not support their community. There are many other very good restaurants in Edgartown and I had to cancel quite a few other reservations. letoile was the only one who ignored my Covid situation. My advice is that customers should keep this in mind when making future reservations.

Yelp
Only came in for a cocktail and bar bite. It had a different appeal to me this time from only a few months ago. Looked like they had a very busy evening. Drinks were good, not wow! Bar bites were very good. I got the lobster bar bite dish. It was well presented and tasty. I gave 3 stars because of the lack in consistency with the serving staff and overall atmosphere. I will visit again with better hopes.

Yelp
Terrific food, cocktails, & ambience. We loved our choices of duck foie gras, short ribs, creme brûlée, and chocolate mousse over cherries jubilee. Our waitress Lola was very attentive and the artist behind our delicious cocktail "Lola gets the last word". Make a reservation because they book up!

Yelp
Not worth the money. While I appreciate COVID situations, the execution was not there. From service to quality. The steak I ordered was a tough cut for $62 - not melt in your mouth. The gin and tonic was all tonic. My husbands fois gras was burned. For $250+ meal - the meal should have a standard of service and quality. I think other places in Edgartown have been able to accomplish this more easily. The service was eh. 30 minutes for our first drink and 30 to refill waters. This place has a long way to go to warrant the price tag it craves.

Yelp
Amazing food. Ribeye was great. Lobster was the best I have had. Great spot to go to while at Edgartown
