Big bummer. Ambiance is the only highlight, the location is gorgeous, the décor is nice, and the setting should make for a memorable night. Unfortunately, everything else falls flat.
Service tries to project polish but misses the mark. Plates came out rushed and unevenly timed, creating confusion and dead time rather than flow. The atmosphere was further spoiled by a fussy dress code and guests flashing photos at every table. Seriously, it looked like a concert inside with flashes going off every minute. We had a reservation and were initially turned away for wearing leather dress sandals, not a huge problem, a quick trip back to the hotel and a change of footwear, but the issue is that nowhere was this communicated. The only guidance is “business casual” and “no shorts.” Dress slacks, button-down shirt, and leather sandals are a no-go, which now after eating, it would seem like they cared more about the shoes than experience.
The food. Food was the biggest disappointment. The fish was not fresh, several plates sat in a pool of oil, and many dishes were bland and under-seasoned. Using imported Maine lobster in Puerto Rico is a baffling decision. Across the board, it seemed like cheap ingredients were dressed up as “elevated,” but the flavors didn’t come close to justifying the menu’s ambition. Dessert was the pleasant exception. White chocolate sorbet was a light and refreshing finish after a gut bomb meal.
Value was poor. Prices are set as if this were Michelin-level dining but the execution was closer to a mid-range hotel. For the cost and the snobbishness, you might expect excellence, or at least consistency. Neither is delivered.
Overall: Levant seemed to be all style, no substance. They seem to be banking on their location and proximity to nice hotels. If you want beautiful photos, step inside, snap a picture, and leave. For a genuinely enjoyable meal, grab takeout from a nearby spot and eat it on the beach out front, you’ll have a better experience at a fraction of the price.
