The 14 Best Things to Do in Charlotte

"The Levine Center for the Arts isn't just one place worth hitting, it's four: the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, John S. and James L. Knight Theater, and Mint Museum Uptown. Three of the museums showcase art, history, and culture; the Knight, meanwhile, is a performance venue. Each institution, though, is worthy of an afternoon in its own right." - Nancy DePalma

On Wednesday nights, general admission is free at Mint Museum Uptown, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the Harvey B. Gantt Center. A consistent pick in national roundups like Southern Living, it’s the best no-cost museum window.

We only had an hour to tour but after a recommendation we bought tickets, watched the 10min mini recorded overview and wandered through the exhibits set out over three floors. I’m relatively new to American Black cultural history and especially connections to NC so the range of exhibits and perspectives gave an interesting viewpoint. It’s doable within a short timeframe however if you have more time then it would allow for a more immersive experience. We would thoroughly recommend

The Levine Center for the Arts is always a treat. Beautiful venue with ample local parking and opportunities for a meal beforehand. I’ve visited for concerts and always a pleasure. Tonight we thoroughly enjoyed the CSO for Holiday Pops. Snacks and Beverages, including wine, liquor, and beer. Always classy and great customer service.

We stopped in this museum by chance when visiting Charlotte. So glad we did. There art was fun & quirky. Military gets free admittance for themselves and a guest. Teachers got a discount! So a budget friendly activity for our family without really knowing it would be!
