I really wanted to like this place! Great decor, super friendly and helpful people, and clearly a commitment to good causes.
However I ordered a latte “a little cooler” and it came out truly too hot (probably ~150-160 degrees F). I asked for some ice and they (sort of reasonably) replaced some of the volume with milk to keep it from diluting. In reality the only way to save an overhot latte is to just remake it. It became very sad and bland and I couldn’t taste the hazelnut shot in there. :-(
However, they were so nice! So I tried again with a muffin. Oof, dense and blah. Maybe had been frozen or was just a mass-produced thing? There are better options out there I’m sure for sourcing.
I want more local coffee shops to succeed, but I was let down by my visit. I literally can’t drink coffee over 125 degrees F or it will burn my tongue and I’ll lose my sense of taste for days. Yes, I know, I’m an alien. It’s always a struggle to get a drinkable temp at commercial places (though Starbucks gets it right about half the time), but most craft places either already serve at that temp OR are careful with a special order.
