Lexington Brass Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"We are fully aware of the fact that Lexington Brass is a restaurant built to cater to travelers and tourists. Hell, it's at the bottom of a Midtown Hyatt. Half the people eating in this place are still wearing a name tag from a team building event in the second floor ballroom. It almost felt a little unfair for us to come eat here and give it the full Infatuation assessment, what with our insanely high standards and aversion to the East 40's. But then we thought, f*ck that. Day after day, scores of out-of-towners come to New York City to see what it has to offer, yet never end up venturing more than a few blocks from their Midtown hotel. I can't believe anyone actually comes back. Have you ever seen the TGI Friday's on Lex? I think I saw a rat walk in there on two hind legs once. It's high time we put our foot down and helped guide our esteemed visitors to good food - even if they can't get out of Midtown. Now, Lexington Brass is infinitely better than most of the tourist trap garbage that you'll find in this part of our fine city. There's no question about that. But this place is dangerous because it actually might lead people to believe that this is what the "cool" NYC restaurants are like. It's got nice lighting, a big marble bar, and tiled walls, just like all the hot spots do. But then the food comes, and it's all the same stuff they probably served during a PowerPoint presentation upstairs. It might do the job after a long day, but this is certainly not a great New York restaurant. Oh, and you have to make your way to the basement to use the restroom - right next to the hotel health club, as the host will instruct you. I'll be peeing on the street, thank you very much. At least that way my friends won't think I left after twenty minutes of waiting for the elevator. The good news is that there are a few really good options near Lexington Brass that will give you a taste of what New York City can do with food. The National, right next door, is an excellent option for dinner - especially for the pork chop. Bar Americain is a short cab ride away. Check out the The Lamb's Club if you're feeling classy. But whatever you do, don't go back home disappointed with our restaurants and confused about our bathrooms. We want you to come back. And next time, you're staying downtown. Food Rundown Tuna Tartare Tacos Their tuna tartare tacos are of the DIY variety, meaning you have to stuff your own little taco shell with tuna and fixins. I don't particularly want to do that, especially when the final result tastes mediocre. That's a real blow to my self-esteem. Deviled Eggs Four deviled eggs that were pretty unappealing to both the eye and the mouth. Give me a paprika sprinkle or something. Not even the caviar on top could save this dish. Crispy Baby Artichokes Your standard fried baby artichoke dish that has made it's way onto pretty much every "bistro" menu in town these days. Do it if you wanna. but we weren't particularly impressed. Beer Battered Fish & Smashed Chips This is a decent plate of fish and chips, though I can't imagine you'd find one much different at a Bubba Gump's. The smashed chips are exactly that -little smashed potatoes. The smashing didn't make them better. Grilled Bronzino A safe order for sure, but also the sort of fish entrée that will make you wish you ate meat. Filet Mignon Sure, why not. I imagine this little steak tastes pretty good after a day of meetings or big red tour bus riding, but you could certainly do a lot better. Truffle Fries I think we ate more of these than anything else at Lexington Brass. At least I didn't go home hungry." - Chris Stang

Really pleasantly surprised. Service was fantastic and friendly. My wife had the French Onion Soup and said it's among the best she's had. She followed that with the Coconut Kale Salad with salmon substituted for chicken. I started with the Crispy Cauliflower followed by the Fried Chicken and Biscuits. All top notch. The only nitpick is they could use a more varied beer list. I like the dark and malty brews and there were none on tap. There was a Left Hand Nitro Stout in a bottle, but I can get that anywhere. Settled on a Stella.

Decent restaurant. Friendly staff. Great place for friends gathering, happy hour and dinner. Their lobster roll and French onion soup are both delicious and portion is alright for dinner for a lady. I tried grilled octopus and lobster salad on the other day. They are also good, but the taste is a little bit salty to me.

A very comfortable place with delicious food. I liked the environment of the place, it wasn't too loud or crowded. People could really have great conversation while enjoying food and drinks. I loved the octopus appetizer dish. Their lobster roll and filet mignon entrees were extremely tasty. I had a wonderful time with my friends and looking forward to visit this restaurant again.

Nice restaurant conveniently located near Grand Central Station. Positioned in a lovely corner, French Bistro style decor, warm and inviting. Everyone seemed to enjoy the brunch. My Mediterranean Grilled Shrimp Bowl with farro was a very well-balanced meal & the falafel balls were delicious (but when it came to the table, the shrimp was accidentally ommitted, but I realized in time & it was rectified rather quickly). My daughter's waffles with berry butter was scarfed down rapidly. And YES! There is a bathroom, just not that convenient to get to...elevator required, on a lower level under the hotel.

Had one of the best NYC brunch experiences here on our recent visit. The food and the ambiance were perfect, the service was great and the menu had some great choices for brunch. I also loved the seating along the large perimeter windows and the beautiful bar with brass moldings. The double-heighted space is magnificent.

The spinach energy bowl is really delicious and healthy. Food came fast as well. But everything else is off. It was rainy cold Sunday. Came in with wet umbrella there is no offer to take them, provide a bag, or offer to use an umbrella stand. We have to take our wet umbrella to our table and try to find a place to hang it. It also took an awful long time for maitre d to find our reservation, who also seated us with the dinner menu in hand (it was 10am in the morning). Once seated a server came to get our drink order, and we finally get the brunch menu. After a bit of wait, and the table next to us sat down and had their drink order taken and arrived, and we are starting to loose hope we will get a food order taken, the server pulled a new server aside and transfer our section. The new server quickly go up to the table next to us, who was seated 10 min after us, to took their food order. This was a big no no for me. And really bad customer service. For the other food items we ordered, the egg white omelette was overcooked and has not much eggs in it. The side of bacon - please do not order it- is over salted and paper thin. I have no idea why the sever would recommend the bacon. Coffee is nothing special; But they do offer plant base milk. I will come back for the spinach bowl if I need a quick brunch and don’t mind being served after other people who came later.

The restaurant is located to the left of the adjacent hotel. I went for breakfast and ordered the French toast. It wasn't what I expected but I like inventive foods. The French toast was stuffed with some type of blueberry sauce of sorts. It lacked flavor and needed to be a bit more sweet. It was also too much of it. The French toast was soggy because it was stuffed with it. I ordered a side of bacon which was $9. It was the worth $9, no pizazz. Just regular bacon on a plate. Not thick cut, with pepper, and maple syrup. Just bacon. Otherwise, the staff was nice and it was pretty quick service.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito. Presentation of food was beautiful and well proportioned for the price but, the food itself was bland. The service was okay, and the hostesses were friendly. Overall, not the the best place- but not necessarily the worst.
