How to Plan a Food-focused Train Trip Through Europe

"Housed in an elegant 1920s art-deco building, this restaurant combines refined gastronomy with a social mission—committing to inclusive hiring and career training for people with disabilities—and serves standout plates such as a silky octopus terrine and a perfectly formed cube of foie gras topped with candied hazelnuts." - Hannah Howard

L'ExtrA

"Opposite Boulingrin covered market (a listed monument), this restaurant is housed in an elegant 1920s Art Deco edifice. The majority of the staff from the kitchen to the front house is mentally impaired, in line with the establishment’s founding ethos to operate as an inclusive business. The kitchen team is managed by a seasoned duo made up of chef Philippe Joly (former second of the Foch) and pastry chef Francois-Xavier Cormarie. In a minimalist, contemporary setting, you can dip into a well-crafted modern menu: espuma of asparagus on a tartlet of Reims ham; skate wing, spelt risotto and nettle jus with a beurre noisette; strawberry pavlova and tartare with a red fruit sorbet. Fine selection of champagne wines." - Michelin Inspector

This review is a few months late! We had an incredible experience here in early October 2024. This wonderful restaurant started our vacation on an extremely high note. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. They have a great wine and champagne list as well. The wait staff were so nice and inviting. I’d definitely eat here again if I ever return to Reims.

I highly recommend this welcoming place, we were driving from Metz and we called to cancel the reservation as we were running late, but instead the owner (manager) called us to tell us that they were going to wait for us. I loved the concept and the dishes offered. The dessert was stunning 😍 and the octopus carpaccio was just unforgettable. Supporting this place 💯, if you go to Reims please do not miss this place

The dishes were visually pleasing and well-balanced. We chose the course without the dessert. I enjoyed the mouthfeel of the cured salmon starter. The fish main was a bit better than the meat. The staff were very kind and helpful.

Excellent food. My wife had the lobster and I had the fowl. Service was weird we had a refer who only spoke French and we only spoke English. The owner knew that but kept sending her to us, I said in the reservation we were celebrating our anniversary. No acknowledgment. The girl helping Us was nervous and seemed new. The owner recommended a wine. It was good but completely different than he described to us. Overall a very awkward dinner.

It's a cute restaurant with beautiful and delicate food, but the portions are really small for the price, so we left the restaurant feeling still hungry. Besides, the service is very slow. Unless you don't mind spending two hours on a workday lunch, it's better to save it for a special occasion.

Beautiful restaurant with a beautiful concept and delicious food. Service can be a touch slow and the courses are quite spaced out. Recommend about 2 hours to visit. Highly recommended!

A beautiful initiative in a lovely part of Rheims. We enjoyed a set of delicious dishes from their limited menu, each and every one presented like an artwork. Particularly, we strongly recommend the guinea fowl and the lasagna!

L'Extra in Reims isn't just a fantastic Michelin-rated restaurant. It's special because the friendly staff, both front and back of house, have disabilities. This innovative program creates meaningful work, and it shows. The service was warm and genuine, the food incredible. My perfectly cooked fish and light-as-air vanilla soufflé were divine, and my son devoured his duck (17/10, according to him!). More than a delicious meal, L'Extra is a heartwarming experience that supports a wonderful cause. Don't miss it on your trip to Reims!
