The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi, India | Eater

"Price Range: $$ Humayunpur, a neighborhood in Delhi’s South home to young migrants from Northeastern countries, is arguably the best place to eat in the city. Recently, this small Nepalese restaurant in the neighborhood has gotten overrun with young Instagram influencers turning dumplings around between their fingers while they record videos. The best thing to eat here is the kothey momo: juicy meat- or vegetable-filled dumplings with “wings” that are pan-fried on one side and served with peanut and chile chutneys, some of the city’s best momo sides. The thalis at Lha are also fantastic, especially the vegetarian ones featuring Nepalese dal and greens, as are the Hakka noodles, honey-chile potatoes, and fried string beans. Vibe check: Lha Kitchen’s lines can be catastrophically long, but the food quality remains uncompromised." - Sharanya Deepak

The food was average—I don’t really understand the hype. It might appeal more to non-vegetarians, but for vegetarians, there are far better Nepalese options. Budget-wise it’s reasonable, but definitely not worth the hype. The momos were good, and the thukpa was decent, though quite oily. The veg thakali thali was a major letdown—it was served cold and lacked flavor. Overall, I wouldn’t visit again. Another thing, cleanliness was also a problem there - The Tables, Cutlerly was not cleaned properly. Although the washroom was well maintained.

Lha Kitchen is one of the best places to enjoy the most delicious momos! The taste is incredibly good and full of rich, flavorful juiciness. I also tried their Thakali Thali, which was absolutely tasty, and the Amma Dashi — another must-try dish! I highly recommend Lha Kitchen for its amazing momos and wholesome thali.

We had Lha special veg and chicken momos, ema datschi, veg fried wontons and tingmo. The chicken momos were really good but veg kothey momos were very oily and very basic they are way too overhyped, the fried wontons had a nice crisp but the filling was way too less and the sauce they serve along with it had too much cornflour and too sweet for my taste. Ema datschi was a let down it felt like a white sauce and not cheesy sauce. The portion size quite good though.

A very nice place, won't burn a hole in your wallet and a good place to go to with your friends. Good for College kids. It is infact a sort of hotspot for college kids with its well priced menu and generous portion size. It opens in afternoon, then closes for a bit and then opens again after 6 PM. The reservation can show a longer wait time than is required. A 100% recommend. The wait time after ordering, especially at peak times, can be considered really inconvenient and dissatisfactory by some, but the flavour doesn't disappoint. I've been here multiple time and have never been disappointed even once. The food is flavourful and make you want to eat moree. My friend keep coming back here particularly for their chilli oil wonton, and I've had the pleasure of trying something different everytime. I had chicken choila with tigmo once, amazing flavours, and Chilli chicken what? Chicken choila it is. The chicken, however was a little too chewy for my taste, but the flavour altogether kept me eating. Another time I had sadeko momos, and the gravy in sadeko momos, the filling and the spice and masala level, all very yummy and the portion size so fulfilling.

⭐ The owner may be Nepali, but the staff and especially the FOOD was definitely NOT! (Owner seems to be mistaken that staff not being nepali is an issue for us - its not but its definitely creates a communication gap when they cannot speak neither hindi english or even nepali which leads to person repeating their order/requests thrice or more. 🍽️ I’ve visited other restaurants near this location, so I decided to give it a try — but I won’t be going back again. ⏳ Wait time — Despite it being a weekday evening, it was busy. We had to wait 15–25 minutes, not because the food was great, but because the space was small and service was slow. (SLOW SERVICE BEING THE MAIN REASON) 💡 Ambience — This seems to be a common pattern in most restaurants/cafés in the area: they claim to be Nepali/Tibetan etc., but all they create is a very basic interior with dim lights. This one was no different. Space was limited, and seating was compact, which was ok as i was not looking for a 7 star dining experience 🙋 Staff — The staff was polite, most of them from the North East. They were trying, but since they didn’t speak Hindi or English well, communication was difficult - had to repeat everything thrice to even get the order placed. ❌ They also lacked basic courtesy — for example, one girl picked up a glass from our table (we were 4 people, so we needed it) and gave it to a guest at the next table and then she didn’t even come back with another glass. Said nothing and just picked it. 👨‍💼 The owner, who was managing the cash desk, seemed polite and friendly. He tried to handle the delays attentively but didn’t quite succeed. 🧽 Cleanliness — The table had been cleaned before we sat down, but not properly - saw the food scraps on table that the previous customer had left. 🚻 The bathroom, on the other hand, was surprisingly well maintained. The staff cleaned it after every 2–3 people, and while the design wasn’t aesthetic, it was clean — honestly cleaner than the tables. 🕐 Service — We waited 25–30 minutes for starters and another 20 minutes for dinner. 🔁 Service was very slow, and we had to keep reminding them of our order every 5 minutes. That’s probably why we got our food sooner than others, many of whom waited 30–40 minutes for even their first dish. 📦 They were fulfilling a lot of deliveries, which I assume delayed service for dine-in guests. Personally, I feel restaurant customers should be the priority, or at least the staff should manage this balance better. 🥟 Food — We ordered: • Veg Jhol Momo — very average. The jhol (curry) was served cold, ruining the taste further — after a 20 min wait. Room temp would still be fine bur cold from the fridge was weird. • Boiled Potato Side Dish (Bhutani) — bland and flavorless. It arrived when we were almost ready to leave. We even tried to cancel, but they insisted we take it since it was “already in prep” (which itself took 20 mins). If anything after a delay of min 20 mins on each dish they should not force an order especially when delay is at their end. • Veg & Non-Veg Thakali Thali — Everything was served cold: the dal, curry, chicken, rice, and even the ghee nothing was even reheated. Even food from stalls in Nepal are served HOT not to mention the taste there is way different. The dal and curry was not good the rice appeared stale - the ghee would have made it ok but that too was served cold. Imagine eating a sizzler but cold without salt and spices. ❌ They clearly don’t know what a real Thakali meal is. The taste was bad, and the cold rice etc made it worse. 😒 I might have overlooked the delays and poor service if the food was at least good. But it wasn’t. They market themselves as serving Nepali/Tibetan/Bhutani meals, but they haven’t mastered even a single dish. Then again, most people don’t really know the taste of authentic Nepali/Thakali food, so they don’t notice the difference. ⚖️ All in all — They need major improvements in almost every area. For me, it was overrated, especially considering the price, quality, taste, and even the ambience.

Had a wonderful dining experience at LHA Kitchen. The drinks were excellent, and the food was equally delicious, all served with minimal wait time. The service team, Sheetal and Machon, were very attentive and made sure everything was just perfect. Special mention to Lobsang, the manager, who ensured our dinner visit was smooth and memorable. Overall, great service and a place I’d love to visit again!

The Food here at Lha Kitchen is absolutely delicious. But their Jhol & Kothe Momos are bomb ,a must try deal. I often visit Lha for their Tingmo too. Just the flaw here is their waiting time, it disappoints the customer waiting.

Very nice ambience, food was fresh and very good, service was also great. The potato jhol was very 🥵 but was good. Veg. Momos were great too. I was a little disappointed with the Pork Ribs.... the spices, taste was very good but there was no meat... It was only Fat. They charged 30 ₹ (rounding off) for 20 ₹ water bottle....
