6 Best Day Trips from Paris

"There's no mistaking you're in a converted, historic building: long before the Flemish gabled structure was Lille's first five-star hotel, it was a 15th century hospice. There's a massive stained glass window on the façade, an old hospice room still intact, and a 17th-century chapel. All of this sits alongside modern art, vast courtyards, a glass canopy, and a modern restaurant. Rooms are a mix of modern and a bit old fashioned: exposed wood beams, wood panels lining the walls around the bed, great light. There's fine dining in the red vaulted-ceiling restaurant, and it's considered some of the city's finest." - Lindsey Tramuta, Mary Winston Nicklin

"How did it strike you on arrival? There's no mistaking you're in a converted, historic building: long before the Flemish gabled structure was Lille's first five-star hotel, it was a 15th century hospice. There's a massive stained glass window on the façade, an old hospice room, still intact, and a 17th century chapel. All of this sits alongside modern art, vast courtyards, a glass canopy, and a modern restaurant. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms are a mix of modern and a bit old fashioned: exposed wood beams, wood panels lining the walls around the bed, some with tiled floors. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There's fine dining in the red vaulted-ceiling restaurant, and it's considered some of the city's finest. Also, there's a small spa with pool and sauna. What was most memorable about your stay? It's set away about 10 minutes by foot from La Grande Place in the city's center, but is a Lille institution with tremendous history. Bottom line: worth it, and why?For travelers who want to accrue hotel points when traveling, this is a smart property to book. It's part of Marriott's Autograph collection, so guests can expect Marriott comforts and services—yet with local style imbued with rich history." - Lindsey Tramuta

Unique hotel with historical setting, room is in decent size with a huge bathroom (assuming each room’s layout could be different). Staffs are very attentive and very professionally trained! The restaurant on-site is also very good! Breakfast is slightly disappointed but nothing to complain about.

WOW! This hotel is pure BLACK LABEL luxury—absolutely stunning! A 5-star experience with a spa at an incredible price. Marriott Bonvoy is knocking it out of the park! PS: The staff here is fantastic—super gentle and always ready to help, making the stay even better. However, if you’re visiting with kids, be prepared for some awkward moments. The pool and spa area are packed with couples getting way too cozy, from excessive hugging and kissing to even pushing the limits of what’s appropriate. And somehow, you might get strange looks just for being there with little ones—which is absurd. Also, for a five-star hotel, the buffet is surprisingly limited. Ooh - and the location: PERFECT!

Most stunning artwork and restaurant. Rooms. A re well appointed and very big for European standards. Disabled bathrooms not quite up to standard, a very active paraplegic could battle to use the shower chair provided.

A Truly Unique Stay in a Historic Setting Staying at this hotel was an unforgettable experience. Originally an old hospice, the building’s transformation into a modern hotel has been done with so much care, preserving the historical charm while adding all the comforts of a luxury stay. The architecture still whispers stories from the past, with original features like vaulted ceilings and stone walls beautifully integrated into the design. What sets this place apart is how the history of the building is not just respected but celebrated. Walking through the hallways, you feel a real sense of place, unlike any other hotel. Yet, the rooms are modern, spacious, and perfectly equipped with all the amenities you’d expect from a boutique hotel—plush bedding, elegant décor, and a peaceful ambiance. The staff were warm and attentive, offering personalized service and giving insights into the rich history of the building, which made the stay even more special. The combination of old-world charm and modern luxury made for a unique and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a stay with character and a story to tell!

Pleased we stayed here. Very comfortable. Polite and efficient staff. The building has been very sympathetically converted, impressive.|Be aware that (certainly in our room) the shower is over the bath, and the step up to get into the bath is very high. If you have any problems with mobility, this can be a challenge

I cannot say enough nice things about this incredible hotel. The building is just beautiful a real blend of a historic monastery and modern glasswork with beautiful and tasteful artwork dotted throughout. The rooms were comfy, there is a lovely restaurant and bar, there’s pretty courtyards, a nice spa and you’re right in the centre of the old town of Lille plus it’s very dog friendly. Perfect weekend break from London. And above all the service was exceptional - so many of the staff went out of their way to help. Special mentions to Jack, Thomas, Clark and Clement - Jack sorted me out a last minute vet appointment with zero notice - amazing! We had such a lovely break - highly recommend! Merci beaucoup 🩵

A very beautiful hotel with a history. We stayed here for two nights. Upon entry, we were greeted by Thomas, he was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area. The front desk staff as well as the breakfast and bar went above and beyond in guest service. We did not have an opportunity to enjoy the spa but the facilities were very clean and welcoming. Within walking distance to Lille city and an Uber ride away from Fromelles where we went to the Museum and walked through cemeteries from the World War which displayed the sacrifices made to ensure our freedoms. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Lille.
