Li-Lac Chocolates (Bleecker St.)

Li-Lac Chocolates on Bleecker Street is such a fun stop, and it’s even cooler knowing this chocolate has been around since 1923. They have a huge selection of chocolates in all kinds of varieties, plus a bunch of really cute shaped ones — cats, dogs, and even a Dalmatian dog! They also had life-size chocolate footballs and basketballs, and even a giant King Kong, which was wild to see. The employee was very, very helpful and friendly, which made the experience even better. I’m really glad I stepped in just to look around because I ended up picking up a New York tour City white chocolate bar and a mint chocolate bar. Everything looked great and the shop itself has a fun, classic chocolate vibe. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area and love chocolate. 🍫

The chocolate shop was inviting and smelled amazing as soon as I walked in. There was a great variety of chocolates to choose from, including bars, truffles, and other treats. Everything looked beautifully made and tasted rich and smooth. The chocolate was not too sweet, and you could tell it was made with high quality ingredients. The staff was kind and helpful, which made the visit even better. Overall, this chocolate shop is a wonderful place for anyone who loves chocolate, and I would definitely recommend it.

Very patient and informative worker. Inside smells amazing. Lots of chocolate options and perfect gifts. Definitely on the pricier side, but everything is well made and beautifully packaged.

Met a really nice man on the subway who helped me and my family with directions. Started chatting with him and learned that he owns a chocolate shop “Li-lac Chocolates”. He was kind enough and gave us a chocolate bar. It was absolutely delicious. We ended up popping into one of their many stores. Came out with more chocolate for gifts for the family. The service was amazing, but the chocolate was top tier. Thank you kind sir! My apologies for not remembering your know. God bless.

Don't be discouraged by some reviews. Try the place out! The 'server' (not sure on the terminology) was very kind, patient and helpful. The chocolates themselves are delicious!! Some sculptures are very cute, funny and creative. Constructive feedback - the store should to mention somewhere that people don't have to buy in pounds. It was unclear (but we asked questions and got helpful clarification) that we could mix and match and get boxes. People who entered after us did not purchase after seeing that the chocolate costs $42 per pound. One or two pieces can be bought in accordance to the weight, which would be cheap.

Perhaps I’m biased (admittedly) because the server was quite kind to me and the Easter chocolates were on sale ($), but I genuinely enjoyed the Lamb Dark chocolate and the small piece of dark chocolate that was gifted to me! Customer service makes all the difference to me and I was treated with kindness and patience.

Super sweet super helpful love coming here and getting my favorite chocolates. The gentleman are always so sweet and answer all questions with a smile and makes great suggestions.

I stopped by Lilac Chocolates on a Saturday and was excited to try this new chocolate shop. They offered us samples when we entered, and the chocolate was good, so we bought a small bar. As is my habit, I checked in on Yelp and saw a coupon for a free chocolate bar with a purchase. However, when we showed this to the owner, he rudely claimed it was only for online purchases, despite the clear wording. This left a bad impression, and I found the owner's attitude disappointing.

We stopped in here after visiting an apartment on Cornelia St. Got the milk chocolate covered marshmallows, OMG, absolutely amazing!!! We were waited on almost immediately by super friendly staff & the shop is well lit, nicely laid out & smelled wonderful!!

Stop by on Sunday afternoon I got a piece of white chocolate bar for my Mommy because that's her favorite thing and I must say atmosphere was very much beautiful. The display of all the variety of chocolate caught my eyes. It's a nice little getaway just a little girl girly run if you wanna do so I recommend this shop. They have a whole wide variety for you to choose from and all the flavors were good and they had samples so so that's a plus, overall the chocolates was good not too sweet not bitter, after all its white vanilla so that was a good part and I recommend visiting.

Absolutely delicious! - And absolutely overpriced! I got a tiny bag of dark chocolate raisins for $14 (see pic) - it's basically just a handful - and doesn't seem much different than Nestle's Raisinetes, which I can get for a couple bucks anywhere. The lady behind the counter seemed bored with her job - it was McDonald's quality service. I don't see the justification for these exorbitant luxury prices here at all.

I haven't had Li-Lac chocolates since the moved from their original Christopher Street shop, so I thought when i was in the Village today I would get some. This was at the Greenwich Street shop. When I entered the store, there was a funny6 smell...almost like mothballs. I purchased a few items anyway. When I got home and tried it, the chocolates were terrible. Whatever that was in the store, was soaked up by the chocolates. The truffles were not edible. This shop has become an élite chocolate brand, I would imagine because as the Village became ultra gentrified, they could raise the prices to match the costs of living in the area. That in itself is bad, but to actually sell inedible products, at the extremely high price is terrible. I expect that a store like this would keep their shop and products pristine. The service was not great either. It was as if I was at a McDonald's. Unfriendly. All in all, a horrible experience at any price, an inexcusable experience at their inflated price.

Great customer service and amazing chocolate. Got the 27" bunny for my grandkids for Easter and they LOVED it! I would order from them in a minute.

Expensive but delicious sweet treat ($8 each not including tax). Walked by the case in Chelsea Market and the dark chocolate covered s'mores (All-American Smores) called out to me and couldn't not get it. The marshmellow was soft, sponge-y, chewy, and delicious (can definitely tell it was housemade). The graham was soft and moist, breaking apart immediately when you bite into it. The thick dark chocolate kept it all together. I would 100% come and buy it again.

Do NOT pay for their cold shipping box... My chocolates arrived in 87° weather and all of the boxes that the chocolate was in were soaking wet from the cold pack melting. Soaking wet. Since I bought $300 of chocolate specifically for gifts... I had to give it in Tupperware. If they are going to put chocolate in a cold box, they must put the chocolate in a plastic bag or wrap it.

Wonderful chocolate but shipping to west coast is a killer cost for orders. We enjoyed all their candy & especially nut caramel clusters.

For $4.95 for a small chocolate coated coconut bar was disappointed. coconut pretty dry . frankly I like mounds bar better as it is moist .

Non-functional slack fill alert!! I bought a 20pc box as a gift that was no longer needed, so I ate it myself. I was dismayed to find that a third of the box is air! They put in false bottom. I took it out and you can see it in the picture. Yes, technically the outside of the box doesn't lie when it lists the quantity and weight, but normal humans shop via their eyes, and they intentionally make the box bigger to deceive us. Not cool at all. The chocolate is fine, but for deceptive customer practices, you get 1-star.

Fantastic chocolates of all kinds, both novelty and serious, truffles and chocolate-coated everything. Lovely service over the years from many people, today and other times by the very kind and knowledgeable Theodore, helping me out as I waffled over what to give as a gift with so many choices. People always love what I give them so it must be right! I've been going to this location and the one at Grand Central Market for way too long, so - the people are nicer and there's a larger selection here, but more subways go there.

We have tried many, many premium chocolates over the years, so when I ordered from Li-Lac I was not expecting anything terribly special. I was wrong, so very, very wrong. The milk chocolate is literally the best I've had in my 60+ years. It's creamy, rich and very satisfying. I was a bit worried at the small bar size, but they filled the craving for chocolate like nothing has in years. I can say nothing about customer service, but their online ordering was easy and the order was here in a few days. The cold pack didn't last the trip from New York to South Carolina, but it made absolutely no difference in the quality of the chocolate. As long as they are making chocolate, we'll be ordering!

When I first moved to New York over 20 years ago, I did a lot of my finding new places by getting a few guidebooks like Zagat's. I don't recall which book noted Li-Lac as the chocolatier to visit, but they were right then and it's still worth it.

Li-Lac website said customers could watch how chocolates were made and purchase products at their Brooklyn factory. When we got there, we were not allowed to watch the manufacturing process or purchase products. We were told reservations first had to be made. This was not stated on their website. So our trip was for nothing. Poor customer service and incorrect information on their website.

The store on Greenwich Ave. smells like mothballs and when you bring the chocolate home it tastes like mothball too. It's the strangest thing. The chocolate is great, but don't buy it there go to Chelsea market. It's too bad the store used to be in a different location in the village and it was great but there's something wrong about the store and it just smells horribly and the chocolate then tastes like that too. I had to throw out a whole batch that I bought there.

This is one of the oldest chocolatiers in NYC. The location on Bleecker is a smaller shop compared to their other shops but has all the delicious chocolate selection one needs to make for a nice gift. I went there before Christmas to do some holiday shopping and the manager/owner was thanking every patron for there or business. I feel it important to support small shops and businesses during COVID. I highly recommend this shop.

I work within walking distance to this chocolate shop. Every so often I stop into this confectionery wonderland for a sweet treat. The small store is packed to the gills with delectable treats and free samples to try. My favorite items are usually the ones behind the glass case priced by the piece because I can get exactly what I want. The assorted chocolate boxes are delicious too and make great gifts. The prices are a bit expensive to say, drugstore chocolate but, are worth the splurge. The customer service can vary though. Sometimes, I get a nice person and other times, I get a rude rep who is dismissive.

I love Li-Lac and the service at this location is excellent. If you check in on yelp you get a delicious chocolate bar that they give you a couple of options to choose from. My friend loved the chocolate gift I got him so if your looking to buy a gift this is the spot. I got myself this caramel bar holy..... the caramel at this place is ridiculous I would definitely opt for something with caramel in it.

I was here on Monday buying chocolate for a Christmas party for my students. The lady Jackie was exceptional, fun , knowledgeable, and very kind. However her coworker was a real nervous reck and made me feel quite uncomfortable while making a big purchase. He kept watching me and looking at me like I didn't belong there. Thankfully Jackie was there to smooth it all over.

I have been a fan and customer of Lilac since the Christopher Street Shop days. We came on Tuesday 11/25/19 around 4 ish. The gentleman working was welcoming and friendly throughout our visit. He answered a lot of my friend's questions and even told her about the factory shop in Brooklyn's Industry City. It is refreshing to meet and be greeted by someone who not only knows the products but, also some of the history of Lilic Chocolates. We purchased Truffles, a bag of Candy Corn, and a Chocolate Pecan Bar. If you have a hankering taste for chocolates give Liliac, a try. If in the West Village, this Bleeker Street location.

This is a beautiful shop and Li-Lac makes delicious candy. I love supporting a local business and one that offers such wonderful treats. I recently bought some chocolate Easter bunnies there as gifts & I know my friends will love them.

I was quite shocked at the selection. I can't believe they can make so many variations, and all so delicious. I'm so impressed. Shout out to Leo, who greeted me, helped me amidst my sea of confusion (I don't do well with lots of choices), super sweet. Thank you for great service.

I was tempted to lineup for free samples when they first opened, but I took the "high road." Though I still experience a bit of schnorrer's remorse, but I've been to the shop several times now, always with positive results. Pros: It's close to home, sells cute-shaped oversize chocolates (a gift basset hound was my latest acquisition), and has a tasty bar with smaller snacks to go. Cons: On the pricey side. Staff is friendly but don't strike me as chocolatiers, in case you're a chocolate nerd demanding of such knowledge.

While in the area my mind needed to attain a small sugar fix. Upon entering this little chocolate shop patrons will be engulf with the fragrant aroma of chocolate. Everything is adorned with chocolate. Li-Lac Chocolates hone traditional values of chocolate recipes and techniques. I wish I could take my two teddy bears to be immersed with all the chocolates adorned in the enclosed glass case. With the old fashioned traditional chocolates, my taste is old fashion as I prefer simple milk chocolate un-tainted from nuts. I opt for a simple milk chocolate heart shape of $4.25. This heart shape milk chocolate reminisces of my childhood NYC Board of Education school years of every Valentine's Day when every child receive two small red heart shape milk chocolate. Samples are available at the counter. Customer service is attentive and ready, willing and able with questions and order fulfillment. No seats are available as gourmet chocolates are met to order as gifts or for one's enjoyment. As a writer/ poet, I disagree with the verbiage on their business card "Fresh, Gourmet Chocolate From The 1920s" which fends that their chocolates are from the 1920s and is 92 years old. Grammatically the versus should be re-written as: Fresh, Gourmet Chocolate Of the 1920s.

I am convinced that the employees of Li-Lac chocolates are simply illiterate. They screw up very simple delivery instructions very very consistently. My mom sends me chocolates from them traditionally around major holidays (Halloween, Easter, etc.). Every single time, they forget to include my mailbox number on the package label, even when my mom explicitly puts this in the delivery instructions in ALL CAPS. My university's package pickup yells at me every time I pick up these packages, simply because the a-holes at Li-lac don't read the goddamn instructions. Li-Lac did offer to send me a replacement package to make up for the fact that they make my package undeliverable, but the tracking email indicates the new package ALSO doesn't have my mailbox number on it. We will be buying our chocolate elsewhere from now on. Maybe the guys at Jacques Torres will be better at reading.

Absolutely delicious Chocolates! I tried the dark chocolate with nuts from around the world ($45), and it was delicious. I also tried the chocolate dipped marzipan, which is located behind the glass station, and the fudge. Both were very fresh tasting and delightful. They have a variety of unique chocolate molds (footballs, Empire State Building, A bike, Godzilla, etc.). The product taste very fresh and you will not be disappointed. As a plus it is also certified as a kosher Chocolatier.

BEST CHOCOLATES EVER! My personal favorites are the hazelnut squares and any of their creamy white chocolate! My in-laws LOVED the dark chocolate, and my son (4 y/o) of course went crazy for everything we got! Amazing chocolate, you can tell they put a lot of love into it! Awesome customer service too! Love supporting small businesses, it's so important!

My boyfriend wanted to make a quick stop at Li-Lac Chocolates before dinner. The aroma of chocolate welcomed us as we stepped into the shop. The glass display case caught my eye and I couldn't resist buying a dark chocolate covered peppermint patty, which was delicious. They didn't skimp out on the peppermint flavor. Leo was super helpful and friendly, showing us the half off Thanksgiving merchandise. We chose milk chocolate nonpareils by mistake and Leo asked if we meant to buy milk. We were thankful he confirmed because we are indeed dark chocolate lovers. We appreciated his attention to detail and service.

Love this place, new store is even bigger with better location. Always perfectly clean and great staff.

I've also purchased Li-Lac chocolates from their Grand Central outpost. Yesterday (Tuesday evening), I went to the Bleecker Street store. Got some really wonderful service from Leo, who very patiently explained to me the differences between the home and continental and french assortments, and also helped me pick out a bunch of other gifts for my friends. Really helpful and professional service from Leo- he was very knowledgeable. The chocolates are great too! Got some salted caramels, chocolate covered pecans, and a bunch of other stuff. More selection and better service than the Grand Central outpost. It's less crowded here. You can take your time.

Came during their Grand opening and promotion. While standing in the cold, they had an assorted chocolate sample plate for the customers to try. It was really sweet of them. I got to try countless amounts. They just kept offering constantly. When one plate was on the verge of being empty, another full plate of chocolates comes out. FREE samples all day around. The line moved pretty fast. The promotion was the price of chocolate in the showcase were being sold as same price as it was in the 1900's. So 23 cents each! There's a catch, each person were limited as to how many they can buy. I got 5 of their darkest chocolate bars. Such a steal! The chocolate was great too. Great quality and texture.

Terrible customer service. FedEx is their customer, not the person paying for the product. Will never order from Li-Lac Chocolate again.

I came in early on Saturday, 8/25, to use a Travelzoo deal. The young man who helped me went out of his way to explain everything. I didn't expect to be treated so well when I was using one of those online promotions. He even boxed my purchase and gave me a full-size sample while I waited. The young lady working with him was also lovely. The chocolate is exceptional. I'll be back.

I've never been unhappy with a chocolate shop - let's keep that in mind. They're a great place for gift-giving on holidays and birthdays and such and such. The sugar-free section isn't extensive but it gets the job done. And yes - after holidays chocolates are TOTALLY on sale. Get it.

This place is amazing. The chocolates are so creamy and milky. They're the perfect texture. They're not overly sweet. The prices are steep, but worth every penny. I mean we're talking about hand crafted fine chocolates - they're amazing.

I really don't understand the expansion so close to their still-standing 8th Ave outpost, especially with such a half-assed launch. The grand opening sidewalk sign mentioned a free sample (which was atop their display and quite good), but I imagine this will be the case forever. When the proprietor was asked what was in certain items in the display, his response was a seemingly-sarcastic "I haven't eaten my way through the whole case, so I can't tell you"...incredibly, that turned out to be his actual response to potential customers. Despite how good the product can be, that's certainly no way to keep business thriving. 7/29/15 email: "Announcing the opening of our newest chocolate store - located in the heart of Greenwich Village on Bleecker Street near NYU (between Sullivan & Thompson). This is our first new store in 16 years, and provides convenient access to our neighbors in Greenwich Village, NYU and Soho. This is also our biggest store, allowing us to carry a full line of fresh gourmet chocolate counter items, signature gift boxes, specialty chocolate molds, and more. Main issue? Health code handling of food. The chocolate truffles are "ok" but the experience and sanitation of purchasing chocolates is NOT. Experience: Officious clerks not selling the chocolates or interacting positively when asked questions (noted by first reviewer but, in my case, two women). Sanitation: This is not good. The clerk actually used a plastic gloved hand that touched the chocolate AND then the sales screen and, then, immediately used the same glove to retrieve more choices. Worse: food vendors should not wrap the gloved hand inside their other unprotected hand and then use the same gloved hand to box more selections! Ewww and gross! Two stars is generous. Never again.

This place definitely caters to the fashion forward crowd. Featuring chocolate molds of stilettos, handbags, assorted animals like cats and owls, and other giftable items like boxed chocolates. Similar to Jacques Torres. Classic chocolates like truffles and fudge in a variety of flavors like hazelnut, raspberry, mint and peanut butter. Beautiful presentation. This place gets three stars in my book because I care about local, sustainable, & healthy ingredients. When I asked the sales person if the chocolates contain partially hydrogenated oil, he looked to the floor, furrowed his eyebrows, and fumbled with some charts near the cash register, saying that the factory would know that. I tried the free sample, which was good, then left. Don't get me wrong, I love fashion and everything artsy, but I think it's important that given the world we are living in, we focus on the bigger picture, and that we support the kinds of businesses, and their ingredients that we want in our bodies, in our families, and in each other. Especially given the neighborhood and the prices, this place can afford to source better ingredients and can train more knowledgeable staff. Other businesses in the area are focusing on local and sustainability issues like Culture an American Yogurt Company and Victory Garden. If such matters are not a concern for you, this would be a four star place for you. A great shop to pick up a present or a box of chocolates as a treat.

Was excited to get a Valentine's Day box for my Wife from such a historic business with ~100 years of tradition. This is bad low quality chocolate! Nestle or Hershey bad. Regret ever coming here.

The fact that I have my lady time of the month is what drew me into the store first. I ordered peanut butter cups and milk chocolate pretzels= FANTASTIC!! Some lovely gifts in there too. I should have gotten more chocolate. I'm definitely going back! Yummmm.

They always have a wonderful selection of high quality chocolates. I have purchased quite a few gifts here and the recipients were very pleased. The clerk at this location is VERY patient and nice. Great customer service!
