The Libertine Pub Review - San Luis Obispo - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Just 20 minutes up PCH from SLO is Morro Bay, a little beach town famous for a giant rock that juts out of the ocean. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset. And, while the town is lined with plenty of ocean-facing bars, our favorite is The Libertine Pub. The second location of the popular SLO brewery (which specializes in sours), Libertine Pub has a divey feel, a solid bar food menu if you get hungry, live music, and floor-to-ceiling windows facing the water. This is also an ideal pre-drinks spot before heading up to dinner at Cass House." - Brant Cox

Google
great selection of beer and alcohol, tasty food, superb service, and very reasonable prices! tons of space in the place, including an outdoor area, plus some sort of event/live music almost every night it seems. highly recommend!

Google
Overall it was ok at best. Customer service was mediocre. Had to wait for security to quit having social hour for one of the five guards to let me in. They did not check my pockets and I did have a pocket knife on that I had forgotten about until after I sat down. House brew was ok for a sour beer. Food was better than the beer or the service. Amd they brought me my bill after my first order trying to indicate that they were closing early. Overall it was ok. Next time I may have to try to be there earlier to catch whatever music was playing on stage.

Google
Just happened to walk into this gem of a pub when walking down in Marro Bay. The interior was inviting and the view was amazing. All the house drafts were sours, which are my favorite. The service was excellent. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing. Got a flight and a few tasters of all the sours. I was in heaven.

Google
The atmosphere is amazing from the moment you walk in — calming music, classic decor, and super friendly staff. My girlfriend and I came in for breakfast and had a great experience. Joella and Isabell took excellent care of us, constantly checking in, offering water and salsa, and making sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and even better service!

Google
We hosted our wedding welcome party at the Libertine and it was amazing! Trenton was professional and responsive and made the process super easy. And the party itself couldn’t have been better! The space was hip and open and perfect for a cocktail party. The staff was amazing and personable and helped all of our guests even during the rush! And the drinks were great, from their many beer options to ciders and more!! (We’ve also had the food many times and it is always delicious!) We couldn’t have asked for a better spot to host all of our friends and family and to welcome them to San Luis Obispo!

Google
It's a cool space, tends to always be very busy. Goat cheese burger was really good and the hummus appetizer was great to tide us over. Fish and chips were pretty flakey and not overly covered with greasy batter which was a good change from our original Morro Bay experience. Overall the Libertine beers are terrible. We tried their new non-"sour" Brown and it's nothing to get excited about. And I do enjoy sours, theirs are just lazy and tart and always inconsistent. Go down the street to Speakeasy Barrelhouse if you want to try a good sour. Service was friendly but a little flighty and not too knowledgeable about beer.

Google
Great selection of brews, specifically house made sours. Yummy grub and good service. We came on a Thursday after the farmers market, so pretty busy. It was Thirsty Thursday, meaning after 8 PM all beers with a 7% or greater are $4. We will definitely be back.

The bouncers say no cover until you get inside. Don’t download their app either

Yelp
Absolutely 10/10 experience thanks to our server Fiona!! My friends and I were in the trenches when we came into libertine, and not only did she go out of her way to help us with our order decisions, she went above and beyond to make us feel 100% better and help with our indecisiveness. I can't say enough kind words about her, she made our day.

Yelp
Oh san luis obispo! Libertine is a classic area to hang and eat or listen to thier music late at night at a bar setting. We are talking about food here so honest rating 2.9/5. This is located in downtown SLO with plenty of amazing stores nearby. I came here for the bottomless mimosas at brunch tho! FOOD: Price: A little pricy for the quality ~$15 - $21 for dinner // $10 - $17 for brunch Croissantwich [beef] - $16 (2.3/5) Hey I mean this tastes good in theory right?? The picture looks good but man I would NOT ever order this again. I mean Im a sucka for crossaints but not too much a sandwich (im not picky tho) and this was just not it. It was incredibly dry, there was no sauce for this sandwich. The croissant was not flufy, it was served cold. I got the beef as the protein but that beef was incredibly tough and I had to eat it separetly for it to even go down. The onion rings were pretty goodtho those were yummy. Bottomless Mimosas - $19 (3/5) The bottomless mimosas were definietely mimosaing. Well tbh it didnt taste too good for me. It was INCREDIBLY strong. They just assumed we wanted orange also but ig that doesnt matter too much. No but i got through 2.5 drinks and I was sloshed. It taste ok at best but nice vibe. VIBE: Yeah its definitely a great place to hang out and chill. I think i would go somewhere else for that though. Food was not good.. I would never come here if i wanted to eat a good meal esp for that price point. All in all, I would not recommend this place for food and I would really stop to think if I would come back here again. Maybe for the mimosas bc that gets you fkd up

Yelp
WOW! Such a fun venue, with an assortment of different event styles. I recently popped in and my bartender Isabel brightened my day! Her service was impeccable and her bubbly personality made the experience 10/10. I'm definitely planning on attending some more events there, especially the upcoming shrek rave!

Yelp
Brook gave us amazing service and she gave us great suggestions on what drinks to order. I highly recommend !

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, this is probably my favorite bar to go to on a Thursday night. They always have free live music which I love, and the ambiance is pretty cool - the newly renovated stage is a nice addition. I come here a lot to play pool too. There are two tables in the back, though they are pretty run down and the space is pretty cramped so I prefer going to BA Start for pool. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. My main issue is at the bar - paying $11 for a beer in a plastic soda cup is so off putting. I understand if it's on a busy night when there's an event or live music happening to prevent broken glass but not at about 7 or 8pm when the place was pretty much empty. I was the only one with a plastic cup and everyone else had proper glasses. This has happened a few times now :/

Yelp
We came for brunch and bottomless mimosas. The menu has a good selection and great prices. The food and drinks came out very quick. I recommend the Orange Dreamsicle drink, it was so creamy and delicious. We went through six rounds for mimosas and I noticed as the rounds continued our server wouldn't check in on us or bring more champagne/juice. I totally get it was busy and there are few servers compared to the number of tables, but improvement would be great. There was a band playing when we were there and it created a great atmosphere. ig: @cravingswithcat

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - We used to come here for Sunday Beer Bingo and the "kids" next to us won logo "L" wine glasses. To this day, they are some of my favorite glasses. Not just because of the logo'd "L" glasses for Lee, LOL. 77 taps and 14 sours - Huge selection! Daily promotions, see website. Happy hour. Atmosphere - Cool, hip space. Fairly large. Plenty of beer choices for all. Pool tables, etc. Indoor/outdoor seating. Open 7 days a week, from 9:30am or 11am to 9pm, 10pm, or midnight. Live bands. Service - Good. Especially for our busy Sunday beer bingo nights. Wine or beer bottle club also available. Price - Reasonably priced. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2012 and to your success at this location since 2017.

Yelp
Came to have some wings and a beer and they have a 5 dollar cover charge for some dance bs they have going on a sunday night. We drove here (somewhat out of the way from Cayucous) on our way home. So long story short, this place is on my shit list. I won't be back

Yelp
Such a fun spot for a cheap tacos on a Tuesday. The tacos are just $1 each, so it's a really good deal. Surprisingly, the veggie taco was the best one, super flavorful and not dry at all. The other meat ones were a bit plain and kind of dry, but the salsa definitely helps if you put a lot. They also had a comedy night going on in another room, so if you're into stand-up or just want something different to do midweek, that's a cool option too.

Osie R.

Yelp
Had a great night with great bartenders but some red headed aggressive bouncer kicked us out after stepping out to smoke a cigarette and taking a sip of our friend's drink outside of the patio because we didn't want to blow smoke in anyone's face. We get that you have to enforce the rules, but the way he kicked us out was pushy and rude as he slammed an ash bowl in front of us. We would've been fine with getting told the rules, but he had a weird power trip and the fact that he kicked us out after one drink and a cover charge with no explanation rubbed us the wrong way. Don't break the rules if you don't want to get kicked out like yesterday's garbage without warning.

Yelp
Wanted to tryout a local spot for some tri-tip and came across Libertine Brewing Company. Boy, is this the place to be on a Saturday! The music and cheering patrons made us curious to what was going on inside. Wow!!! The hostess seated and we were quickly greeted by our server. We ordered drinks and lunch and immediately began participating in the Bingo Brunch with the MC. So much fun! Great food! I will definitely be back! Give Libertine Brewery Company a try for yourself! You won't regret it.

Yelp
Stopped by on my way to Santa Barbara. Bartender cait provided an excellent Bloody Mary, made my trip. #golibertine!

Yelp
Came for bottomless mimosas and got the chilaquiles. Overall it was okay, but the chips were so soggy even though we started eating them right away. They start giving you less and less orange juice as you get more champagne lol. Their menu is also pretty expensive. The vibe of the place depends on the DJ.

Yelp
We were fortunate enough to spend New Years Eve at this venue enjoying the Molly Ringwald Project ring in the new year. The band was fantastic start to finish, the staff at Libertine provided prompt and courteous service throughout the evening and we had a spectacular time. We officially "double dog dare you" to provide that same program at any point during the coming year and we will purchase our tickets the very moment it's announced! Perfect New Years Eve! Thank you all so much!

Yelp
Libertine on a Saturday or Sunday is the best! You may wonder why and it's because of their bottomless mimosas for $19! My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed them and might we add, our server was very nice and accomodating to our needs! As for the food, it was delicious. We ordered the chicken wrap, fruit parfait, and country fried chicken with country potatoes. We were all full and drunk by the end of it. Find us there on Saturday, Sunday, or Tuesday and say hi! We love meeting new people :)

Yelp
Came here with a group of 6 to enjoy a late dinner. - The food is definitely more on the bar food scale, but has some hefty options. The nachos were quite large and the brisket fries came with a lot - Lots of fun cocktails and beers to choose from - Street parking and local parking garages available - Scan the QR code on the table to view the menu and order food and drinks - can also order drinks at the bar inside - Indoor and outdoor dining available

Yelp
Excellent sour beer, some of the best in Northern California. In addition, the tap list is extensive and has almost all independent breweries. I got some stuff off the taco Tuesday food menu and it was just plain old pub food, nothing special at all, but really, come here for beer.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Just happened to walk into this gem of a pub when walking down in SLO last day in town. The interior was inviting and the menu was seriously appetizing for breakfast. The service was excellent. I was in heaven for a good breakfast. No more downtown it looks like the out skirt of town has gems.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a mixer and I loved the huge selection of drinks they have on tap. If you're a beer person, Libertine is definitely your place. However, I like ciders and they had about 2 so I choose the blueberry one which is one of their most popular. It was slightly sweet and tart and I couldn't taste the hopiness like in beer which I prefer. Overall a decent hang out spot and if you're not looking for beer, they make cocktails too.

Cristal V.

Yelp
Only giving 4/5 stars because I haven't tried any of the food so I can't say how good it is. HOWEVER, the drinks are very solid. I usually only come here for simple well drinks but recently I got their signature pineapple mojito (i forget the actual name) and it was very delicious. Not too strong and just the perfect amount of sweetness. There is always GREAT live music and always a great time. definitely an underrated bar but definitely one to check out!!!
google avatar

Albus D.

Yelp
The food was okay. The food resembled your typical bar food. The service was pretty good and the ambiance is a fun brewery environment. The drinks are all sour drinks. So if that is your thing, you would love this place. I'm not the biggest sour drink person and you add that with the sub par food, this place gets a 3. It's just decent. I recommend if you like sour drinks. Stay away if you do not.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this location by accident. We were going somewhere else for lunch and wanted to go to Libertine in Morro Bay and happened to drive past this place and found out this was where they brewed, Perfect! Not only closer to us than the other location but also somewhere new to get exactly what we wanted. So we came, they also have a coffee shop that they do, which is genius, coffee and beer, drinks no matter what time of day it is. The walls were open to enjoy the sun and breeze, the atmosphere was super chill, there were a variety of age groups here, 20's, 30's, 40's, families having lunch, you could bring your dog too. My husband wanted to try something and he didn't like it and the waitress totally took it back and gave him a beer he knew for sure he liked with no charge, that was really nice. Overall super fun!

Yelp
We love this place! Always amazing service, always amazing food, and the drinks are spectacular! We go, At least, once a month to Libertine as they have Comedy Night on the first Wednesday of every month! This week we ordered the Stuffed Chicken Quesadilla 10/10 - their guac was perfect and their salsa was . Second, we split the Classic Burger and added grilled onions and subbed fries for tots! 8/10 only because it wasn't their fanciest burger, but still delicious and the tots, supurb! I almost always order champagne at libertine because their pours are gracious and their champagne is DELICOUS!
google avatar

Cole G.

Yelp
Service was ok. Love the ambiance. I'm a fan of sour beer I like the Morro bay location more Be aware!!!!!!! There is a Non cash fee

Richie G.

Yelp
Came by to watch the Holdup... great drinks amazing staff especially Isabel, great customer service and non stop bar service. 5 stars would recommend, especially with staff like Isabel

Yelp
I went here for mimosas! They were super attentive on refilling our champagne and they also had guava juice along with orange juice. I ordered a breakfast burrito which was decent. However, my personal favorite part of my dish were the tater tots I ordered on the side. The restaurant was a little bit on the louder side since there was a DJ for a Saturday morning which wasn't my preference but that's totally okay. I think the venue is cool since there's like a patio and plenty of seating.

Yelp
Libertine Brewing on Broad St. is one of their three locations in SLO County. This location sports 70+ taps of beer, wine, kombucha and cold brew coffee. Libertine specializes in brewing their own sour wild ales infused with local ingredients. Tasting flights are available, which is a good method for expanding one's palette from their huge selections, and to decide which ones to bring home. With such a wide selection, one is sure to find a new addition to enjoy at home. The interior has an open industrial decor with different seating options for both large and small groups, as well as on the sheltered patio in front of the building to enjoy the beautiful local climate. Background alternative rock music gives Libertine an upbeat, chill vibe. Their kitchen offers a descent selection of appetizers and dishes with flavorful menu options. We've enjoyed many of their offerings, and they've always been satisfying & excellent. Stop in and enjoy a nice refreshing beverage and a bite to eat.

Yelp
Libertine is a guaranteed delight to the senses! What drew me here was the tap list which touts 70+ beers on tap from Libertine's famous (and delicious) large selection of sours to guest beers on rotation. Every single beer I tried (our group got several and passed them around) was perfectly crafted and delightfully delicious. But, the thing that took Libertine to the next level for me was their food. I came to SLO with the express intent of eating at the Downton Farmers Market but wanted to hit this spot before happy hour ended. By the time we finished, we'd gone through garlic parm fries, sweet potato fries, wings, goat cheese balls (my fave), and tri-tip sliders. The food here is next level and there is something for everyone, don't sleep on the fries - any of them - even the plain old fries that came with the sliders were excellent. If you want something a little sweeter, get the sweet potato fries with their signature drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon. TL;DR: Libertine is a 10/10 great beer, impressive food, highly recommended. P.S. I was so caught up on the offerings I forgot to mention the service was great too and the atmosphere was fun and laid back.
google avatar

Tanya E.

Yelp
Went here for my step daughter's graduation. Food was eh, service was friendly and great, ambiance is fun and laid back. When live music starts 21 and older only so the young cousins had to go, which meant half the family had to leave with them. We were not aware of this prior to coming.

Yelp
I did the stop by for the Elite Perk at Libertine Brewing today. The lady who gave me all of my stuff was very knowledgeable. She was Right On on what to do my my food when I got home. I made it per her instructions an Wow Was It A BOMB. One of the Best Yelp Perks in a while This place Rocks I would Highly Recommend This Place

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Libertine! My wife and I had been to the Morro Bay location plenty of times, but this was our first trip to the SLO location. We were not disappointed. For those who have never heard of Libertine before, they are THE sour brewery of California. They brew sour pale ales, sour IPAs, sour ambers, you name it! Now I myself am more of a classic beer drinker, but my wife lives and dies by the sour beer, so she was in heaven when she found out there were 12 on draft. I enjoyed a Monterey Street Pale Ale on draft. The staff was super kind to us. We felt like part of the Libertine gang, if only for a little while. I enjoyed a really good BBQ chicken sandwich, which I promptly inhaled. It was perfect, nothing wrong at all. And the fries that came with it were spectacular. We look forward to returning again the next time we're in SLO.

Yelp
So I went here the other night with friends to see a band. Overall the atmosphere is cute and has potential to be a great hangout. Drinks not so great and food tasted ok but like warm. Honestly not impressed

Yelp
If you "don't like beer" you've probably never had sour beer. The Libertine holds a special place in my lil heart. I first found this place when a friend and I made a pit stop in SLO headed back to Santa Barbara a few years ago on a day trip. It was suuuper tiny, packed and we had to stand because there was nowhere to sit haha. My friend wasn't too crazy about sours but I think they finally grew on him after this trip and he still visits to this day. Ive been able to come back once since and the place has expanded a lot! I sadly moved back to Los Angeles so my visits are rare but any time I find a bottle I get excited! Sour, strong, delicious. I'll be back!

Nicole P.

Yelp
I'm visiting from out of town. I was disgusted with the manager/ owners actions. The manager/ owner pulled my friend who's on the spectrum out of line and told him he was "acting retarded" and kicked him out. We tried to inform him that he's a person with special needs and to have some grace. He disregarded our information and he said "you aren't going to pull a fast one" and kicked us all out. Absolutely DISGUSTED by his actions especially in this day and age. I really hope he educates him self and gets reprimanded for his insane behavior.

Yelp
Average food but great value! I came here for brunch on a Saturday around 10:30am with 3 other friends, we were seated immediately as they had just opened! We all ordered mimosas, they were $3, what a steal!! For food I ordered the brunch plate which was pretty subpar overall but the potatoes were great! My friends ordered the chicken and waffles and breakfast burrito and enjoyed it. Overall, our food was pretty average but the drinks were great! I've come before for their beer flight and apps. Our go-to app here are the tater totchos, highly highly recommend those. They have an extensive drinks list with very unique flavors so I would definitely recommend coming for that. As for brunch, if your plan is to day drink on Saturday or Sunday this is the place. However, if you want quality brunch food, I would opt to go somewhere else.

Issiahs G.

Yelp
Had my wedding reception here and everyone was beyond helpful and friendly. The tacos were also amazing and the price per plate could also not be beat. Great beer selection as well! Everyone had such a great time, if you have the fortune of planning an event here then you will not be disappointed!!

Rachel H.

Yelp

And the drinks were great, from their many beer options to ciders and more!! (We've also had the food many times and it is always delicious!) We couldn't have asked for a better spot to host all of our friends and family and to welcome them to San Luis Obispo!

Yelp
All I want to contribute to this forum is: Tater tots in breakfast burrito is YES. Would be nice if the sit down area was cozier.

Anthony K.

Yelp
Had breakfast with the family today. Was super excited to be out and enjoying the nice weather. We ordered our meal and then the wait began. Folks that came after us were served their food. Then half of our order was brought to the table. My wife ordered a croissantwhich with bacon on the side, eggs over hard, and avocado for her side. The sandwich came with bacon on it, eggs over easy, and we ended up being charged for extra avocado even though that was her selected side. After their food came out, we continued to wait for the second half of our order. About 30 minutes went by and still no sign of the second half of our order (my breakfast burrito and my daughter's scrambled eggs) or from any of the servers. After about 5 more minutes my wife finally went to the front and asked them about the situation. They sent a server over and stated the kitchen had lost the second part of our ticket. Needless to say, we spent $40 on half a breakfast (that was brought out wrong) and never received half of our families breakfast. We will not be coming back here for breakfast in the future.

Yelp
Very disappointed in my last visit. I ordered a draft beer and it was flat and not cold, to top it off the glass was not clean and I could clearly see lipstick on it as well as food particles. They did take off the beer from the check and I ordered something in a bottle, but if this is a beer place they should know what they are doing. The food was not bad but I think I will be giving this place a long break because of issues with the beer. The last few times I've been here I have noticed the beer was a little warm and not as fresh tasting. The table who sat near mine looked at the glasses they were given for a pitcher and they also had dirty glasses. This seems like a simple issue to overcome, especially if you are a beer place. I hope it improves.

Galen G.

Yelp
Second time here, though first visit was several years ago so I had forgotten. Then I remembered I liked it. And I still do. Their specialty for their own brews is sours. And they have a really nice range of those, from berry to citrusy, salty to sweet. If you don't like sours, have no fear: They have a huge range of other beers and ales on tap. Again, a really nice range, one that favors California breweries. The food is very good, a step up from standard bar food. They have good burgers and sandwiches, of course, and various fries. But also really good salads, tater tots, and more. Pleasant open space, and very friendly, helpful waitstaff. SLO has a few other good, local brewery restaurants, including Antigua and Central Coast, but Libertine should be on your go-to list as well, and if you're a bit foodie at the top.
google avatar

Yelp
If you love sour beers and beer pong, come here! There's also other kinds of beers from other breweries here too. We got here around 8pm or 9pm on Saturday. We were lucky to meet the beer tenders Josh and Grace. They were awesome! Around 10 or 11pm, they brought out 2 beer pong tables! We were able to play a few games before they closed. Great place to meet some regulars and their staff. We were able to try a few splashes before we committed to pints. Parking is garage or street.

Stasii M.

Yelp
LISTEN UP! If you like spicy flavor to blow your mind , cool you down and chill you out , order the FUEGOPENO. Garantee you never had a ice cold drink like this. Most definitely crafted by a master mixer. Don't miss out on the drink of the summer! 10/10 oh, and the wrap was good, too.

Brett S.

Yelp
Sours are so different, and so it's worth a try stopping here. The biggest draw is Tuesday happy hour--good tacos, the best being the philly taco. The shrimp and the vegan were also good. Great beer prices for happy hour too! The architectural geography is strange here. When empty, it feels uncomfortably lonely. When full, it feels overly packed. Tons of space but no waiting area. But it is well worth a try or two, especially if you are tired of ipa after ipa around here.

Mis M.

Yelp
What a fun stop! Great beer selection. Friendly staff. Goat cheese balls were tasty. Great place to stop in!

Conner S.

Yelp
Libertine is a great place to go with friends to grab a drink and some food. Their food is pretty classic American fare (Mac & cheese, burgers etc). My favorite thing on the menu are the nachos. Everyone else prefers the totchos but I think the nachos hit the spot a little better every time. Their forte are sours. I personally do not like sours, so my word here is not relevant. However they have a long list of guest taps for non-sour lovers. Their staff is friendly enough to provide samples if you cannot decide. Their servers can disappear from time to time but overall this is a great place to come with friends, family or whoever you want to share a drink/meal with!
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
Came here for a drink while in SLO with family. We loved that they had such a large selection of beers, hard kombuchas, and ciders. Everything was on tap which was cool, because you can get a flight of non-beer options as well as flights of beer. There are lots of bar food options- fried pickles, ahi tuna burgers, fish tacos, etc. They also had cocktails available. Cons- It was pretty hot inside (seemed like the air wasn't on) and service was quite slow (likely they were understaffed). Would still recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch after church. My daughter lives in SLO and eats here quite a bit, but my first time. They have a decent brunch menu but the burrito seems to be a favorite. Comes standard with bacon so if you want to switch that up ask for sausage. I had the brunch plate but was torn between the chicken and waffles also. My brunch plate was so great. It had a side of salsa as the eggs came scrambled. I'm not sure if you can get fried etc I didn't ask. There was a side of nicely cooked potatoes and slices of avocado which I transformed to avocado toast. The bread they serve was so delish! Our server was cute as a bug, so talkative and humorous. Appreciated her! I know the Libertine is traditionally a watering hole but the food has it going on. Pay a visit!

Yelp
Libertine has an extremely wide range of sours so our spirits are raging every time and we are major fans! The people are really nice and they're dog friendly with a walkable downtown plus a park. It would be nice to see a more health conscious food that pairs with sours rather than just drunchies but overall very cool place!
