"In all honesty, we’re kind of underselling Bar Liberty by calling it a wine bar. Sure, there’s a list loaded with interesting and exciting natural wines, but there’s also sake, pastis, and vermouth. And lurid blue cocktails. And a delightfully rascally vibe in the dining room, where you’ll eat salty, snackable things like miso king prawns or grilled mortadella with pickles. This is a perfect date night spot, even more so in summer when the astroturfed courtyard opens up. Just look for the graffiti-covered sign out front." - Ellen Fraser

This is a review of the bar side. I think it’s connected to the steak house. The drinks here are excellent! Cocktails are $14 and delicious. I got the double lychee martini and was presently surprised about how smooth and lychee tasting it was. I also think that the two huge and plump lychees on top were fresh and not from a can which is excellent. It just tasted so good. And the other cocktails at the table were very good as well. It wasn’t busy at 7 on a Friday. I think they have a happy hour that ends at 6 during the week. This place has nice vibes, a little fancy but also casual. They were playing family feud and wheel of fortune in the tvs which I loved. I will def come back!

Kiana was our bartender, she was amazing and super friendly, she shared her dog, cat and hedgehog pictures and stories. She's guided us through a large section of wine, beer and mixed drink selections. Her coworker Luis joined us and showed off his tattoos and hit it off pretty great. Can't wait to come back, such great service and tasty menu

Google
This bar is slightly upscale. Food comes from the adjacent Liberty Prime Steakhouse. I ordered the Stuffed Prime Chicken Breast (which is basically chicken cordon bleu) with mozzarella cheese and prosciutto. It was very filling and ta. I also ordered the mac and cheese but I wasn't feeling it too much.

The service here is very wonderful. They are very welcoming and I am happy here❤️❤️❤️

Google
Small bar next to steakhouse but meatloaf was delicious and service was on point.

Google
The steakhouse is probably still decent. But the Liberty bar itself is in a bad shape. Drunk bartender, brawls spilling over after hours seem very frequent now (seen few of those recently..once a cop car had to drive by !..live in the neighborhood). Avoidable

Google
Amazing steak options and appetizers in the restaurant menu. Filet mignon was great and many appetizers like tuna tartare, grilled octopus, bone marrow, etc. are all delicious!

Google
A fantastic place to be alone or with a group. Good vibes, good people, good food. Happy hour is insane, $3 beers, $6 cocktails/wine, $5 appetizers. Great place to watch a football game

Yelp
I sadly have to give this visit three stars. I typically love it here every time I go, but this time, unfortunately, the ribeyes were overcooked, one of the petit filets came out as what looks like a petit sirloin and the mac & cheese was mid. Service was good as usual, but not sure what happened with our steaks. Its always a nice vibe in the restaurant, never too busy, which is surprising. It is nice not to be in a packed steakhouse though.

Yelp
We needed something good to eat in the area during a quick weekend trip. I definitely was not disappointed. I loved the ambiance, nice and dim lit and since we came at I guess not a busy hour, the staffs entire attention was on us so the appetizers, food and drinks came out fast! A really flavorful meal overall and the drinks strong enoughhh.

Annette I.

Yelp
The staff was civil and effective, but not particularly friendly here. Was it because we were among the last diners to be admitted for the evening? The staff could not decide whether the kitchen was still open but eventually we were able to order burgers, wine, and beer at the bar. It was great that they were open late, and we were satisfied with our meals. Unless I had business in the area, I wasn't loving this enough for repeated visits, but it served the purpose for this visit.

Darian B.

Yelp
The service was not the best - we would order drinks and 10 minutes later our server would come back to the table and tell us what we ordered wasn't available. I get that this happens, but it happened 3 times and it took him so long to update us and get a new order. The food was amazing and cocktails were very good!

Dara R.

Yelp
We came here my birthday on a Sunday afternoon and it was nice and empty - great seating and love the moderate dining ambiance - not too dark inside! The menus light up and there's a great selections of steak at an affordable price! I had the small fillet and my boyfriend had the New York strip. Both were delicious - perfectly cooked and seasoned to taste. We love their steak fries also seasoned just right and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The drinks were also refreshing and they have a wonderful mixed drink selection. Will def go back for another celebratory occasion and recommend for those hesitant about trying new steak places in Jersey City.

Yelp
I've passed this restaraunt so many times in the past and finally gave this place a try. I came in for an earlier dinner with my cousin and we were seated upon arriving. The restaraunt is cute it is dimly lit and is great for a date night. Music is playing but not so loud that you cannot have a conversation. The mashed potatoes were a bit grainy for my liking and the steak didn't have as much flavor as I thought it would. Both were disappointing. The lobster Mac was good. My drink was very good and so was the sushi appetizer we ordered. The menu lights up which makes viewing the menu very easy. This was a great addition since the lights are quite dim even during the day. The highlight for me was the cheesecake. I pretty much finished the entire piece myself. Really good. I wouldn't return for dinner. Just drinks, apps and dessert.

Sam R.

Yelp
Just stopped in for drinks. While the drinks were delicious, didn't have the friendliest service. TVs in the bar area for any sports fans which was nice.

Tatiana O.

Yelp
Service was great ! Food was good. Bone marrow, octopus & calamari was delicious, steak was good.

Joseph D.

Yelp
Terrible. I'm not going to try to write an elegant review. It smells like bleach when you walk in. Bartenders are young kids that don't know how to make a basic drink. Food sucks for the prices they charge. Steak really isn't even that good. $150 for a tomahawk that is a subprime cut of meat. Please go to Edward's instead.

Alden K.

Yelp
I had the fish and chips. They were plated nicely, no newspaper or wrap, if you can't live without that. They are still good. Maybe just a bit too much batter and it didn't stay crunchy long. But it was very crunchy straight out of the kitchen and tasty. It comes with Tartar. The side of fries were good. If you are English, you might not like this, but I'm not an expert on fish n chips. It's just more breading than I had in London. And the chips aren't the type some might expect, but it's normal American fries, which my wife prefers. My wife had the cheesesteak. I had a small bite and it was very tasty. The waiter had expressed that it was good, he was right. The potato wedges that came with it were not great. Kind of soggy texture and not tasty. We didn't eat more than 2 each, and left the rest. The waiter was friendly and did a good job. The Caesar salad was good. It was dressed more than my wife us used to. So she will probably ask for light dressing next time. But it was still very good. My wife said she'd order the cheesesteak again. I don't think I would order anything we ate again, though they were good for 1 time. I might try the short rib panini next.

Marios D.

Yelp
Called late for a dinner They were very accommodating and friendly. Good service from the start. Attentive server took us through the menu and helped us to make some great selections We were treated to some great breads and then ordered our entrees some of our shared apps and our individual meals I selected a prime porterhouse to share for two but three of us were sharing it because we had a bunch of appetisers and accompaniments... Very disappointing steak full of sinew not cooked very well and there was no grill on it - was almost like a boiled steak - very disappointing The sides however were OK for example Brussel sprouts accompanied with bacon had a good showing, however very salty I do recommend this place but be aware that it is an ok place.

Cassandra F.

Yelp
First time in the area- the best steak dinner, service, drinks, and dessert!! New York Strip bursted with flavor, petite filet mignon with asparagus and mashed was the perfect meal.

Jamease T.

Yelp
Laurelllll ! She's the best ! Appetizers and sides 5 out of 10 needed more flavor. The steak was 9 out of 10. Our server Laurel saved the night with her excellent customer service! She was an absolute gem! Seating was ok music was 80's based.

Yelp
For dinner this weekend in Jersey City, we decided to try this venue. Just on Montgomery Street in Jersey City amongst rows of shops and restaurants, sits this romantic and eclectic restaurant. It was pretty dark inside with really pretty lighting. While using your phone, one must take a photo of the barcode to view the menu. Both of us were in the mood for light fare. We chose a tray of assorted seafood. It was an unimpressive but fair amount on the tray and enough food for us to share. Warm brown bread was placed on the table as well. We also ordered a goat cheese, beet, apple and spinach salad to share. The salad combo was quite good. Please check out the photos. We might return next time for steak since they are known for them.

Mi Rae C.

Yelp
Enjoyed a 4 course new years eve dinner here. I wish they would've made it clear it was a prix fix menu though cause I came here specifically for ribeye but it was not available. Didn't love the lobster bisque but the shrimp cocktail, spinach, potatoes and cheesecake were good. The steak was cooked as requested. Asked to be seated at a different table when there were plenty available but the hostess was rude and wasn't flexible which was odd. Also didn't appreciate the 3% credit card fee and mandatory 22% gratuity for a party of 2. Probably won't return.

Jason P.

Yelp
Overall, great steakhouse experience! Service was quick and attentive, it was really nicely decorated for the holidays and the food was delicious. We ordered Caesar salads to start which was a solid 9/10. The portions of the salad are pretty big so in my opinion one salad could be split with two people, especially if you're ordering other appetizers or a decent amount of sides with dinner. For dinner, the steak was really good and well seasoned. For sides we got the onion rings which I would highly recommend, and the au gratin potatoes which I wouldn't recommend. They weren't awful but I've made better from the box at home.

Judah J.

Yelp
Steaks were great! Cocktail was refreshing, watermelon martini. Came for early Sunday dinner, found parking right at corner across street, seated right away with no reservations, dining area was sparse, only 2 other tables seated, people don't go out dining like pre-pandemic. Service was great.

Dena H.

Yelp
I have been dying to come here since I moved into the city! The food here was extremely delicious from the sides to the entree. I ordered a petite filet which came with asparagus and cheddar mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of Mac & cheese. The bread here was delicious especially their seasoned butter. Everything was a 10/10. Highly recommend adding this to your foodie bucketlist!

Isabelle M.

Yelp
I was initially skeptical to come here because of the bad reviews regarding service, however I was pleasantly surprised as the servers were very attentive, and food came out pretty fast. The food was good, but this place is not for the price sensitive. Overall nice ambience and the backlit menus were really nice in the dim-lit restaurant.

Angel L.

Yelp
Liberty Prime has a great happy hour. My partner put me on this spot and it has by far been a great find. Glows: -Friendly staff (very important) -Great food, the short rib sliders are to die for -Drinks are good and priced great -Decent menu and fairly priced Suggestions: -I enjoyed the short rib sliders so much that i decided to check their dinner menu to see if it they as available and it wasn't :( haha Def going back!

Don M.

Yelp
For a steak restaurant, the quality and f the steaks was lacking. My New York Strip, requested as medium and that of another person in my party, requested as medium rare, were over cooked and grey throughout. The desert, a coconut crème brûlée, was chewy with processed coconut. Overpriced with poor quality.

Thomas D.

Yelp
It took too long to be served . Very pricey for alright dishes . Too many flies roaming around the table.

Nancy S.

Yelp
food here is generally good but the service can be spotty. Also, was charged a credit card fee that was not disclosed on the bar menu, Brunch menu, nor any sign posted (we were not offered a diner menu). We disputed it and it fell on deaf ears. Liberty Prime, please refer to recent legislation regarding transparency and disclosure of credit card fees. https://www.hklaw.com/en/insights/publications/2023/08/new-jersey-acts-to-limit-credit-card-surcharges#:~:text=The%20Act%20requires%20Sellers%20who,entry%20and%20point%20of%20sale.

Yelp
During my college reunion, we held our cocktail kickoff here. It's a classy eatery with a hip vibe. Cool. The staff serving appetizers were efficient and everywhere at once, serving tasty finger food items. The best was their fresh, perfectly cooked JUMBO shrimp. Top 10 of all time, and I know shrimp. The bar keeps were on top of their game too. Fast, generous pours, super friendly too. Winners all. Seriously good eatery in a competitive area. Go, enjoy, you'll thank me later.

Rosie D.

Yelp
The food was just okay. I was expecting more and was a little disappointed. My friend had her birthday celebration here. First they kept placing bottles of sparkling water on the table that we did not order and tried to charge us for all of them. When this matter was addressed the manager was quite rude, but eventually took the bottles off. My steak was not bad, but the mashed potatoes were flavorless. I do have to say I did like the ambiance, although it was a little too dark. The chances of me dining here again are slim to none.

Denette W.

Yelp
Excellent customer service and the food is very good as well. I especially enjoyed the atmosphere. Whereas, I was able to eat and enjoy talking with my friends because the environment is conducive to enjoying fellowshipping with others as one enjoys their good meal.

Marg R.

Yelp
Made easy reservation online. In a prime location in Jersey City. Parking deck right next door. The steak was okay! The mashed potatoes were okay! The sushi appetizer was filling. The cheesecake dessert was delicious. Our cocktails were amazing. Our server was so friendly and helpful throughout or time there.

Jenn R.

Yelp
The waiter seemed a little experienced for an upscale steakhouse, but the food was very good. Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare (I believe got the delmonico or tomahawk). Creamed spinach very tasty as well. We were having an early dinner so hard to tell what the ambience would be like when full, but would recommend as a good steakhouse in downtown JC (much better service and food than at Edwards, which imo has gone downhill).

Rease R.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with excellent customer service. For my husband's birthday I took the entire family out for dinner and enjoyed themselves not a single complaint. Family friendly environment, the staff was tentative, and the food was delicious. The price is on the higher end but the meal and customer service is worth it. Must try: Bone marrow Steak tartare Grilled applewood bacon Tomato stack Roasted chicken Tomahawk steak Creole Chicken Alfredo Aged New York strip White truffle Mac and cheese Creamed spinach Steamed broccoli Crème brûlée (our son loved it)

Amanda R.

Yelp
LOVE. THIS. PLACE. My Boyfriend took me here on a date night and it was perfect. The ambiance of the restaurant was romantic and very comfortable but elegant as well. I ordered the filet and it was cooked to perfection. We both ate every last bite of our meals. The staff was attentive and made sure everything was to our liking. I loved the layout of the restaurant, it is a great size. We sat in a table on the second level right by the "balcony" so we got a nice view of everything as we ate. Personally, I think it was worth the drive from NY to eat here so if you are local, definitely recommend.

Melissa W.

Yelp
Food was delicious I had a amazing birthday dinner here. Waiter was excellent. My table was private & the ambiance was very nice.

Lex V.

Yelp
Amazing food & such a vibe, great music! Great for date night or girls night out! I wish I could post a video of our food . The tomahawk steak was fire

Jordan C.

Yelp
came here for valentine's day to celebrate and get the pre fix 3 course. My drink was strong but delicious with bourbon mmm been on a real bourbon kick lately and this drink definitely hit the spot for me ! Got the shrimp cocktail with massive succulent shrimp, the surf && turf && the strawberry cheesecake my date got the chocolate mousse. everything was great except the lobster was over cooked and mushy... otherwise great nice

Diego M.

Yelp
Pre COVID review: Bottom line: good steak. Not great. Not amazing. Mediocre everything else. Gluten line: knowledgeable but menu not marked. Long line: came here for a drug rep dinner so meal was free. Service for a large table was just ok. Beer menu was very limited but I guess can't expect much options in a supposedly more boogie place like this. Steak was cooked appropriately but weak on seasoning (we rationing salt back there?). Overall just didn't feel like the service and food you'd expect for what I know they normally charge. Not returning.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
I have been calling and emailing this restaurant for weeks now... no one has bothered to respond. There is a additional charge on my card for dinner (for four people) that should be been corrected weeks ago. I can't seem to get a manager on the phone. This is unacceptable.

Gissell M.

Yelp
Stopped in for a Mother's Day dinner. Staff was great, space had a nice ambience but the food was subpar. The Brussel sprouts were mushy and the bacon bits inside were not cooked all the way. I ordered a NY strip and it was much fattier than usual. Wine was very good, ended up getting a second bottle. The Mac and cheese tasted like mushy noodles and you did not taste the essence of white truffle at all.

Shirley W.

Yelp
Review is for Hudson Restaurant Week, so not sure how the regular menu is. For our apps, my girlfriend got the french onion soup and I got the artichoke hearts. The soup was delicious, and I typically don't even like french onion soup. The artichoke was not good though. For entrees, we both got the 10 oz New York Strip medium rare. Both came out overcooked and tough. The sauce on it was okay, wasn't a huge fan. For dessert, it was a glazed donut topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream... Ehh... Service was good though and its a cute date spot, but not sure if I'd come back again for restaurant week.

Diana B.

Yelp
3 different areas. The bar side * general seating on the first floor * and cute private tables upstairs with a lot of space for the few indoor diners like myself. The wine was a great recommendation, the appetizers too - it's been awhile since I've had some good tuna tartare. The main course didn't impress tho. I had the lamb but this one didn't do much for me. & the lobster Mac and cheese had no lobster. The creamed spinach was pretty good tho. & the filet Mignon was cooked to perfection. Guys said this was a great dinner spot for the guys. As for me, I don't think it's on my places i need to revisit.

Samantha S.

Yelp
I was here in 2020 right before the pandemic hit and I remember thinking "wow, this is the best steak experience I have ever had". So we wanted to take our friends out for a celebration dinner here because we remember being so blown away. I don't know what happened (COVID issues?), but it was not the same. Still really good and our friends were very happy with the dinner...but we were not blown away. The porterhouse was tasty and cooked to how we asked. Our sides were also good: brussels sprouts, asparagus, mashed potatoes, and potato au gratin. THE POTATO AU GRATIN WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW. SO tasty and savory and cheesy. Loved it. Then for dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and fried cookie dough. You would think the fried cookie dough would be overly sweet and something only a kid would like, but was great! Lovely texture and not too sweet. Not your average dessert. * Still a very good steakhouse...but I will no longer make this a go-to steakhouse to take someone out. There are better 5 star options.

Lucien C.

Yelp
Awesome ambiance and the food is amazing. I had a tomahawk for two, loaded baked potato and onion soup. The food was amazing.

Liz C.

Yelp
I got married last weekend and we used Liberty Prime as our event venue. We wanted a small, intimate wedding and we're so, so happy that we went with Liberty Prime. There were 56 of us there and we fit comfortably in the upstairs, private dining area. The food and drinks were delicious. The service was excellent. I absolutely recommend Liberty Prime for events, big and small.

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week and the service was exceptional. All the servers and greeters were very pleasant, my glass was never empty and my table was always clean. I didn't have a chance to need anything. This place is really amazing and the food is amazing. There was a really good genuine vibe that felt inviting. Thank you to all the workers at Liberty Steak house. I will be returning again the next time I'm in the mood for steak! The food is fresh, cocktails are tasty and the ambiance is perfect. I'd recommend this steak house to anyone who enjoys a nice juicy steak ! The staff is also very helpful and polite. The crowd ranges but you never feel like you're around a certain age group too much. Perfect to bring friends and also family. You won't be disappointed ! Their aged steaks are unbelievable, their staek tartar is the best I've had. We had grilled octopus as appetizer, the aged bone-in rib steak and split that between 2 as it is 24oz, one side of white truffle oil cheddar mac and cheese and one side of parmesan garlic steak fries. For dessert, i had the homemade cheesecake. Everything was great, and the portions do not disappoint. I would go here over and over. It is pricey but worth every dollar. Only regret I had , was not taking pictures. I was too occupied being extra greedy. Definitely a must try, if you're in Jersey City.

Joe F.

Yelp
What a bad experience. Cocktails were awful. Got the appetizer bone marrow which was overly buttered and lacked flavor. Split the porter house for two which was small and overcooked. The streak lacked any flavor. Literally the only redeeming quality were the sides. The worst part was it was priced like a good steak house. There are so many other higher quality steak houses in the JC/hoboken area. Pls go to Dino And Harry's before here....

Bernard S.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The steak was cooked the way I asked for. The mash and sautéed spinach was on point.

Sara B.

Yelp
Liberty Prime isn't just a spot for dinner - they also have a delicious brunch menu! I ordered a tuscan scramble which came with a huge plateful of eggs topped with pesto, mozzarella and red peppers. There was also a generous side of potatoes. For 12 dollars this was a huge amount of food and left me stuffed for hours. My dude had a steak sandwich that was topped with frizzled onions and aioli and came with a side of parmesan sweet potato fries. The fries were incredible - thick, hot and crispy and smothered in parm cheese. He liked the steak sandwich but didn't love it because it was a bit fatty. I definitely want to come back in for dinner to try the steak, but also won't discount Liberty Prime as a solid neighborhood brunch option. They also have a beautiful private event space next door to the restaurant. I'm having my bridal shower in their private loft room and can't wait. The room is absolutely beautiful and is very private from the rest of the restaurant which I loved.

Cameron C.

Yelp
I'll start with the food was delicious. Rib Steak for 2 was cooked perfectly medium rare with the correct ratio of fat. Drinks were also marvelous and sides were good. Slightly disappointed in the risotto as its texture was more riced than typical. The bruschetta did not come with toast which we asked prior to ordering but was still very good and well seasoned. 10/10 for service, waiter, hostess and bartender were all very welcoming and kind. My largest issue which is why this isn't 5 stars is because the prices listed on the menu weren't what our check came out to. Each side was listed at $9 flat, when we got the bill they added on cents that weren't listed on the menu. When I go to a nice dinner I expect to spend a good amount but I don't want to feel nickel and dimed which I did here. Overall very good meal but will likely explore other steakhouses prior to returning because of feeling left by the check.

Warren L.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I am very picky when it comes to a steak house. The good The place is nice. Comfortable. Service was good and attentive. There is also a nice bar. And it seems like there is a happy hour. Because for a Tuesday it was busy at the bar. We were a large group. The waiter recommended the seafood tower. It was good. Not great. I ordered the filet on the bone. Which is quite expensive. Which is understandable at a high end steak joint. My issue is that there was no edible meat near the bone. It was veins and not edible. The guy sitting next to me ordered the same and his looked the same by the bone. I will say the edible part was real good and was enough to eat. But when I am ordering this cut. I expect the best part near the bone. Which is why I ordered it. The sides were ok. Nothing special. I have been here before and will probably give it another try

Juan S.

Yelp
We decided late to come here for a late birthday dinner on a nice early Friday night. The hostess was nice enough to find us seats without a reservation. Style and decorations are par to any classy steakhouse in the NY and NJ areas. The menu is simple with typical steak place selections. Specials were prime rib and some seafood combinations. We ordered the tomato and mutz appetizer, filet mignon, and the special prime rib with spinach and mushroom sides. The appetizer wasn't so great. The mutz was too dry and did not go well with the tomato. The filet mignon was also overcooked and dry. The prime rib special was well made. We finished the meal with coffee and key lime pie. Overall the meal was from underwhelming to just ok. My initial rating was 2-3 stars. I am adding one for service from the waitress and hostess who both were very accommodating and professional. We will try again but not in the near future.
