"The Liberty is like the nicest pub in your neighborhood, just five times bigger. The ceilings are high, there’s a big wraparound bar, and there are also some massive screens for watching sports. Plus, the bartenders here make quality cocktails, and there are some big tables up front that are great for groups." - Bryan Kim

"The Liberty is one of the oldest bars on East 6th and while the warehouses that once surrounded it have been replaced by condos, it’s still one of the best places to drink on the street. Inside you can play pool or post up around the bar, or you can head to the backyard and grab a spot at one of the many picnic tables. You’ll run into someone you went on a Tinder date with three years ago while you wait in line at the food truck out back, but just say hi and offer them a fry, or do your best to completely avoid eye contact." - Adele Hazan

Stopped here for a late lunch today while traveling through the area. It is a cute little mom and pop diner with a nice selection of home-style menu items. Fried chicken, Hamburger steak, Chicken and dumplings, etc. My hubby tried the Hamburger Casserole with a salad and baked potato, and I had the BBQ Stuffed Potato. Portions were good, and the prices were reasonable. We ordered a slice of Sawdust Pie to go because they are apparently famous for their desserts....and it was fantastic. It was like Coconut Pie and Pecan Pie had a baby, and it was a great combination of flavors. The server was very friendly and checked on us often. Definitely a cute hometown vibe with lots of hometown recipes to choose from.

Visited for lunch a few weeks ago and was unfortunately sorely disappointed. I arrived at about 12:45 and found a fairly full parking lot. The lot is a little torn up but not too bad. It's easy to get in and out. Walked around to the front and stood in the entryway for a few minutes. Didn't know the protocol since it was my first visit. Eventually, a waitress said loudly from the drink machine to seat myself, so I selected an empty booth near the kitchen. There's a lot of seating inside. I'd say the restaurant was about 1/3 full. Idk where people park when they're at capacity lol. Waitress came over and somewhat incredulously asked if I was by myself, which I confirmed. She pushed a scrap of white paper in front of me and told me to circle what I wanted and she'd pick it up. Eh...okay. It was a limited menu of meat + 3 combinations. They advertise breakfast till 1 as well as burgers and sandwiches but none of that was on there. However, the waitress' demeanor can only be described as frosty, and fortunately I was okay with my choices, so I kept to myself. But a part of me was kind of curious about breakfast for lunch. Alas. She returned with my tea wordlessly and swiped up my slip with my order. I circled a fried chicken breast with "potato patties" and fried okra. The sweet tea was the best thing I had and I enjoyed drinking it while I waited for my food. No refills or to go cups were ever offered though. I will grant the food came out fairly fast...but it also came out cold. Well, the chicken and potatoes were approximating room temperature, but the okra wasn't even lukewarm. My grouchy waitress also didn't give me any silverware and ran off before I could ask for any. I had to hunt down a different, only marginally less grouchy waitress so I could eat my food with a fork. It's a shame the okra was cold because it had a hint of potential; the breading was sort of cornmeal-y and might have once been crispy. As it was, it wasn't good at all -- the cold okra got slimy. The chicken was passable but also not nearly hot enough. The breading also needed more seasoning. The potato patties were...not patties? I was expecting something like a Jojo (small crispy potato round, thicker than a chip) or at least something circular lol, but instead I got two scoops of a sort of whipped potato casserole. This would've also been alright except it was lukewarm and, even worse, absolutely replete with still-crunchy large pieces of onion. Couldn't get a mouthful without them and left with much smellier breath. The one redeeming factor other than the tea was the bread basket: two yeast rolls and a hunk of cornbread. The cornbread was awful (bland and dry), but the yeast rolls were soft and warm and about the only food item I legitimately enjoyed -- even though, once again, my waitress left me hanging with no butter. I really couldn't wait to get out as I felt terribly unwelcome, so as soon as I ate what I could stomach I went to the marginally less unfriendly waitress and paid at the register. The price was decent (~$15 before tip). I did still tip, but I was salty -- legitimately some of the worst service I've had in a long time. I'm forgiving of long wait times and forgotten stuff, but I really don't like callous attitudes when I do my best to be pleasant and accommodating. Definitely wouldn't return. 2 stars because the food was edible and the place was clean enough. The hunt for a decent lunch in Scottsboro continues.

My friends and I rode thru here on a motorcycle day trip and we were so glad we stopped in for breakfast! This place was amazing! Party Melt was insane as well as the Loaded Hashbrowns! Will absolutely come back here! Still want to try the Sawdust Pie! 🥧 🍰 Staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant, thank you so much!

Our first time here and will definitely NOT be our last. Allissa was sweet as can be. The food was delicious. My pancakes were the biggest I’ve ever seen!! My husband said his okra was as good as his mom’s! And the restaurant is very clean and cozy! The rest of the staff was very friendly as well!

Google
We paid $40 dollars including tip for two omelets and two sweet teas... I think that is pretty outrageous for 2 eggs, some meat, .50 cents worth of peppers and the most disappointing thing was instead of having any sort of care to put in shredded cheese, we got unmelted hunks of Velveeta. Would recommend getting a burger.

We absolutely love coming down for breakfast and always have far more food than we need. The serving sizes are generous and the food is always hot, fresh and tasty. The service has been wonderful every time we go and we will gladly wake up to go back earlier in the future because it gets busier and more crowded later in the morning.

For a local cafe, this is classic. And the food is scrumptious, precisely what you'd expect. The atmosphere, again, is no surprise. Old building and friendly people. Locals, of course, mixed with out-of-towners like myself. Further, I was on a deadline and was able to get in order food, eat, and leave all within thirty minutes (for breakfast).

We arrived at 11:40am on a Friday morningn from out of town. The parking lot was 1/2 full, leading me to believe that a 1 hour meal would be possible. Walking in the door the place seemed to be clean, and we were shouted at from somewhere in the back to seat ourselves. So we sat near the left side of the restaurant near the counter, not realizing we were so close to the bathroom. After 10 mn a man with a ponytail provided a disquisting conversation with a waitress, that personally, if would have been my daughter, he would have left the spot he was standing in with a fast move on his back. Finally after demeaning the poor girl she came to our table and left a piece of paper for us to choose our lunch. Not long after another waitress smelling of Marijuana refilled our drinks. 15 more minutes passed and we received our food. Cold, tasteless and not living up to the reviews I had previously read. We paid for our meal. Left our tip and decided to never return. The man with the ponytail, apparently the owner was dressed like a long haul driver that hadn't bathed in days. And for him to talk to a employee in front of customers in the manner that he did,was enough to earn this place 1 star. Not to mention the food at best ,should receive 1-2 stars. We will never be back, and will be looking for another place to eat on our next trip thru Scottsboro, Al.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is great and so is the staff. We will be back. Reminds me of a place back home in West Virginia

Yelp
We had great service and food! We find this suggestion on yelp and it did not disappoint! We had breakfast and then could not resist a slice of warm pecan pie as well.

Yelp
I told my wife that this is a definite diamond in the rough. Quaint local establishment with a similarly branded motel and package store across the street. Extremely polite and attentive staff. Very clean with a retro vibe. We started off with the cinnamon roll which had just the right amount of chew, hint of apple, and wasn't too sweet. Progressed to the country fried steak and eggs with biscuit. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the country fried steak was a bomb pork that was seasoned and trimmed perfectly. Coffee was probably the best I've had outside of a coffee shop. It was obviously fresh. Won't hesitate to come back in the future. May even stay at the motel.

Yelp
Dropped in at Liberty Restaurant. Kind of a local place. The menu was fairly full of options. Home cooking would be their theme if you are picking one. We both ordered omelets. They were ok. Strangely they weren't mixed. I was like an egg quesadilla. Egg flapped over the ingredients. It was ok, but not anything amazing. I'll try them again sometime when I'm in Scottsboro. The desserts looked amazing. Just next time I won't get the omelette.

Yelp
Stopped by here on Sunday on the way home from a weekend trip to Scottsboro, Alabama. It was one of the only restaurants around, just on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. We would've never thought that we would run into a celebrity inside! We actually met Duane Chapman, the bounty hunter! Lol Location: It's just off the side of the road and really the only restaurant around. It was very easy to find and not crowded. There was plenty of parking. Staff: Soo nice! I was with a group of 10 French people here temporarily in Atlanta for work. The staff were super nice and understanding. They helped explain things and gave us all of the details about the daily special and recommendations. They came to check on us regularly. The pancakes are twice the size of your head and you get two. Someone ordered them, they brought them out and the one on top was slightly smaller than the other, and they brought two more to make up for it, but the two they brought originally were already more than enough for 5 people!! Haha Experience: Great experience. It is a small country diner with great home cooked food and sweet staff! Food: They were out of grits, so I was sad about that but ended up getting the pecan waffle, scrambled eggs with cheese and hash browns, all of which was delicious. I was expecting the pecan waffles to have pecans inside or have a special syrup or something, but it was just a waffle with pecans on top. It was still good but nothing special. Price: Very affordable. I think I paid around 10$ for my meal! Improvements: Honestly none atm :)

Yelp
Sausage was way overcooked. 50 minute wait to receive food. Took asking 2 different waitresses where our order was. The waitress that started our order with water never came back to our table to take our order. Had to ask 2nd waitress if she would take our order. 50 minutes later had to ask 3rd waitress to check on our order. Husband ordered country ham and eggs over medium. Parts of the egg white was part raw.

Cyd W.

Yelp
Really good home cooked breakfast. Very nice staff and even when it's crowded it's not that long a wait

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
If you want a small town dinner, this is your place. I grew up on it, and the amount of homemade desserts make it worth the stop-alone. When we roll into town we almost always make a stop in for a good, freshly made breakfast. You can't beat it. Service is the tops, and the coffee is always hot. We ordered blueberry pancakes, biscuit and gravy, eggs, and pork chop. Delicious!

Ben D.

Yelp
Food is god awful, staff didn't know what they were doing. . Bland food . Would not recommend .

Bill B.

Yelp
I was passing through Scottsboro and used the Yelp app to identify a unique breakfast spot. Liberty Restaurant satisfied all of the criteria...off the main road, small, been in existence for a long time, good reviews, and local hangout. The restaurant is located about one mile off Hwy 72 and when I pulled up I knew I made a good selection; the parking lot was full and most of the cars were pick-up trucks. The building is old and someone run-down, but maintained. The interior was clean and had the old style booths, tables, and chairs. The color scheme is the old green color from the 60s and 70s. I ordered the meat omelette and coffee. They bring a pot of coffee and place it on the table...yes, thank you! The omelette was large and stuffed with meat. The omelette included sausage, bacon, and bologna...yes, bologna. The only complaint with the omelette is the outer egg shell of the omelette was very thin and broke apart easily. Sometimes this is caused by cooking omelets on a flat top and that is my guess here. Overall the food and service was very good. If passing through make the effort to drive one mile off the main highway.

C. M. F.

Yelp
Very nice service, location and most of all the food was heavenly! Ordered an ala carte omelet with gravy and it was on point! Restaurant looks like it came out of a travel brochure for Route 66. I loved it. Look forward for a return visit soonest. Strong love of Country here as well. Thanks for the experience.

Tammy D.

Yelp
A+ Southern food---and that's coming from a Georgia girl! Biscuits and gravy- 5-stars, Bacon - 5-stars, Coffee 5-stars, and finally the blueberry pancakes, 5- stars! This just made my heart and tummy happy.

Joseph F.

Yelp
One of the worst dinners I have ever stopped at in Alabama took my grandkids by here while we were on our way back home I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!! They also over charged me for my order but I was so ready to just leave!!

Mechelle K.

Yelp
After a long day of travel, this was literally the only non-chain place open and what a great find! Locals were singing karaoke and the food was fast and delicious! Great friend chicken and fresh iced tea! Will definitely stop here again!

Nancy M.

Yelp
We went here with friends. The food is very good. We had the fried chicken and the chicken and dressing. The food was excellent if you like country cooking. The food was hot and fresh. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. The only negative was the constant asking if we were ok and did we need anything to go. Kind of made us think they wanted us to leave.

Wanda S.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Good service and prices were reasonable. Good country cooking.

Ann Claire W.

Yelp
So glad my husband suggested we stop for breakfast on our way back to TN. Great local place with delicious food, good size portions, courteous team. Most definitely recommend!

Judy G.

Yelp
Hisband is eager to go back. Wish it were nearer ! He lovd the vegtables- the pie for dessert was not needed but much enjpyed.

Andrew P.

Yelp
First off let me say this that the staff is horribly rude and the food was over priced I believe I saw the owner and a man's wife hugging and kissing like idk what kinda establishment they are running there but the food was decent......

Elle E J.

Yelp
Is the best food ever? No. Does it get the job done for little money? Yes. The portions are ginormous so you definitely won't leave hungry. This is typical, basic diner food with the exception with unique omelette selections. It isn't overly greasy but I wouldn't exactly say anything is healthy. We stopped here for breakfast on the way from Huntsville to Desoto State Park for a day of hiking in the heat. This meal kept us full for several miles beyond lunch time! I would most definitely return under these circumstances again.

Kathy P.

Yelp
First time to eat here, drove 85 miles to Scottsboro and chose this place for our Sunday lunch. We ordered the Ribeye Roast and 2 vegetables with coconut cream pie for dessert. This was the worst meal I think we've ever had. The Ribeye Roast was nothing more than blobs of fat with not enough lean to count, the tiny bits were tasteless and tough. (We picked up our food to go because of covid risk) Mashed potatoes were full of pepper and tasted like the water was drained off and pepper thrown in, no butter or cream or salt. Slaw, green beans, corn, yuk! Homemade pie? The only good thing was the people there were at least friendly to my husband when he ordered. I wanted to go in and show them the meat they served us and complain but he would not allow me to. He said but they were so nice. I hated that he spent $30 of his hard earned money for this food. Sure wish I had taken a picture of that meat to add to this review!

Brad B.

Yelp
Darn good blueberry waffle. Great price!! Great that there are still old reliable diners where you can eat cheap but get great food.

Trish N.

Yelp
Traveling through and decided to stop based on the Yelp reviews. Nice mom and pop place for a home cooked meal. We had the cheeseburger and fries, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were outstanding! Everyone was super sweet and very very nice! Good place to stop for a country meal.

Laura M.

Yelp
5 stars for the food... We have stopped here twice on our way through town and have been pleasantly surprised with this little diner. The fire burger off the main menu is incredible! It is made to order with jalapeños mixed right into the burger meat. We have yet to try one of their daily specials, but they say the fried chicken is always a big seller. This place hasn't been updated in a while (ok, a very long time) and it's not the cleanest restaurant I've ever been in, but we feel the food more than makes up for the atmosphere.

Carl S.

Yelp
Typical non-chain, family restaurant serving bkfst, lunch, dinner. Plain and cheap with unrelentingly friendly service. The physical address (907 E Willow) is correct, but for some reason, using "Directions" on the Yelp app leads you to a wrong place about 1/2 mile away. This needs fixing.

Robin P.

Yelp
Great county cooking, huge portions! Off the beaten path, but worth the couple extra turns it takes to get here.

Molly B.

Yelp
A perfect example of a Meat & 3 restaurant. Everything homemade, feel good food. Are you gonna be blown away with flavors? No. But are you going to leave fully satisfied and smiling. Yes. It looks like it hasn't changed since day 1 when it opens which is definitely part of its appeal. Locals love this place. Their yeast rolls are so light and yummy. Their homemade coconut pie with meringue a mile high??? Yes, please! Do yourself a favor and eat here!!

Alicia B.

Yelp
We found this little diner on Yelp while on a road trip from Chattanooga to MS. A little tucked away from the main drag of 72 so we wouldn't have found it without Yelp. Like the other reviews say it's decor is a bit dated, but what I'd expect from a little diner in a small Alabama town. We had pancakes and eggs and they were quite good. I opted for gravy as a side and put it on my biscuit. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crisp but not burnt. I couldn't tell if the biscuits and pancakes were from a mix, but both were good anyway, so it didn't matter. The food was slow getting to us, but that's only because there was a large group of locals ahead of us. When our meal arrived it was still hot and there was a lot of food! Pancakes/eggs/bacon and eggs/biscuits/bacon/coffee was less than $12. Can't beat that!

Ben C.

Yelp
Ok so we were in town visiting Unclaimed Baggage and I stumbled upon this place. The food was excellent and the only down side was the food took a while to prep, but it was all made from scratch is why. It was great. I'll go back next time I come in town.

Lucinda L.

Yelp
Exactly what I was looking for. I don't mind leaving the highway for a few miles if I can find a locally owned diner. Liberty is your quintessential meat and three place. Little piece of paper menu that the waitress circles, paper towel roll for napkins. I ordered fried chicken legs, green beans, pintos and fried okra. The chicken was a bit over cooked and needed salt and pepper. The green beans were cooked the traditional Southern way - with ham and for a long time. No crispy beans here but they were really good. They have PIE available although I resisted.

L G.

Yelp
Went for first time for breakfast. Friendly but the gravy was cold.. on two orders. Need to serve up the gravy just before food leaves the kitchen. Disappointed!

Erica H.

Yelp
Fantastic! Wait staff is the absolute best! The meatloaf is to die for. Turnip greens are just like granny cooked them.

Wade O.

Yelp
Passing through and rolled the dice for breakfast. Wonderful country restaurant! Great food and service. Owner came by twice to check on us. Get the pecan waffle: awesome!

Tara D.

Yelp
Delicious... just a great home-cooking meat and three. Great food. Great service. I had the chicken and dressing... my wife had the fried chicken. Both were great. Would def recommend this place.

Mark T.

Yelp
On a weekend morning with no writing deadlines and laundry and dishes pushed off, we gathered ourselves and went on a roadtrip. By mid-afternoon, having reached our destination several hours earlier and once wandering had grown tiresome, we arrived at the Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama. With a plate of fried chicken and with an apparent side of Ore Ida crinkle cut french fries, it's hard to not balk at the food. Even though the fried chicken is better than most you'll find at other places, it's delivered without any such claims of being 'the best', or any of the many superlatives and adjectives that simply add to the hype that only sets you up for a big let down. Liberty Restaurant serves good fried chicken, and on that weekend afternoon with the hours ticking away, there are few places I'd rather be than there with my girlfriend and the knowledge that we still had the drive back. Because roadtrips are our thing. It's our time, our meager attempt at real travel but not the limited and mutated form experienced through flights and airports, but across landscapes and country sides. When you turn off a highway and hope to get lost, in search of nothing but always happy with what you find. The Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama is nearly perfect. It's great where it can be and falters everywhere you would want it to. With one dining room decorated with turquoise blue chairs and bright pink checkered tiles, and the other room using the opposite color scheme of neon pink chairs and turqoise checkered square tiles, it's awesomely mismatched with the fake wood paneling still hanging from a 70's remodeling job. Passing through the pasture towns stringed along a two lane highway, it's a rare escape and it's on trips like these that I find my breath. When I don't know where we're going to end up. When the Liberty Restaurant is all of a sudden the most memorable moment of a roadtrip and I never knew it existed until then. With the open road winding and twisting into areas I've never seen, the shallow breath I keep while sitting at my desk in this office is freed and being in the moment was never so real. Liberty Restaurant in Scottsboro, Alabama is great if you happen to find yourself in town on a weekend afternoon. The food is passable, and the town has few surprises. But none of that was ever the reason why we left the main freeway and drove through towns with no names and getting lost was always a great choice.

Stephanie K.

Yelp
I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this place isn't great. I ordered a country fried steak biscuit and pecan waffle. My waffle came out burnt and I didn't mention it because I decided the biscuit would be fine. I bit into it and it was white meat? I guessed it was chicken and flagged a server to say that this wasn't country fried steak. She came back to say it was a PORK country fried steak? And asked if I still wanted it. I said no, country fried steak is supposed to be beef. "Not here, our country fried steak is pork." When we left (paying our bill in full anyway), I again mentioned my frustration that I have gotten pork when I ordered steak and the server that processed our payment told us that every country fried steak she'd ever gotten in her life was pork. I did google it and ask friends to be sure I hadn't just lost my mind, and it's definitely supposed to be beef. Never mind that I didn't touch my entire breakfast and no manager asked if anything was wrong or came to speak to us after we sent food back. Definitely can't recommend this place

Kyle G.

Yelp
I have eaten here a dozen times the past few years. Always breakfast though. The food is good but also cheap. They have a wide variety of breakfast items and the staff is courteous as well. This is a local food stop for cavers in the area, so you may see folks like myself in there grabbing a bite to eat before heading out for the day.

Tony S.

Yelp
Great little place for breakfast. Good service, always good food. Tenderloin is awesome.

Mike G.

Yelp
Honestly how'd I miss this living less than a mile away for over a year. Honestly this looks like a sixties diner that hasn't been updated. The decor is shabby the menu was falling apart, who cares? It was really good. We went on Karaoke night. It was hilarious. The burger was huge. My daughter had the chicken strips she really liked and my other daughters Patty melt and hand cut fries looked really good

Brittany J.

Yelp
Stayed in Scottsdale the night before, went here for the very awesome loaded hash browns. The food was great and the servers were awesome. Will definitely be back here one day.

Cindy G.

Yelp
Best food in North Alabama! Go for the ham and hash browns at breakfast. Everything's good at lunch.

Jean L.

Yelp
We love this place for breakfast. Stop in almost every time we drive thru on our way to destination.

Patrick S.

Yelp
If you want a rustic diner experience, this is the place! Stopped for breakfast and it was delicious! Great waffles, crispy bacon, truly friendly service and a great price!! Look past the aged exterior and dated decor because it's worth the visit!

Blair L.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped here on Sunday for lunch. She had a bacon cheeseburger and mashed potatoes with gravy. The bacon cheeseburger was delicious. I ordered the meat and three (menu option shown in photo, not in Yelp's "explore menu" link) with chicken and stuffing, spinach, and sweet potato. Also had lemon pie for dessert. Everything was great, except for the spinach which had too much salt. I let the owner know, so maybe the spinach will be improved for next time. Overall, great meat and three. Real Southern cooking. I was confused by Yelp's "explore menu" link and thought breakfast could be ordered anytime. However, we were presented only with a lunch menu of cheeseburgers etc. and also the meat and three menu. You circle what you want on the meat and three menu to make things easier for the wait staff.

Yelp
I would not even give you ONE star, honestly!!! Food was more- like left overs. Yuck!

Yelp
Great home style food. Not expensive. They also serve breakfast. Very short wait time. Give it a try.

Yelp
Great food and really kind people. It was fast, too, which I wasn't expecting with the home cooking. The food was good and the portions were huge. Only disappointment was they weren't still serving breakfast at noon...just means we'll have to come back! Decor was American flags and WWII memorabilia, which I love. Very Southern, very charming.

Yelp
My husband and I had a five star burger. Onion rings were fresh not frozen. Ancient building but great food!!
