"Once a bank that provided loans to Black businesses and homeowners when other banks turned them away—established in the late 1960s in response to redlining and serving the community for about 20 years—the Liberty Bank Building now serves as a mixed‑use hub supporting Black‑owned businesses and includes apartments for low‑income families; managed in collaboration with Community Roots Housing, Africatown Community Land Trust, Byrd Barr Place, and the Black Community Impact Alliance, the building was chosen through a community‑driven pitch process to host Cafe Avole’s new retail space as part of an effort to bring in local Black‑owned businesses and build a vibrant, empowering neighborhood hub." - Lakshmi Sarah
