LIC Beer Project - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"LIC Beer Project is delivering beer via their online store. But if you’re in LIC, stop by this brewery to pick up cans from 1pm to 7pm Tuesday through Saturday, or 2pm to 6pm on Sunday. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The Best Breweries In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"With its disco ball and hot pink neon sign behind the counter, LIC Beer Project feels sleeker than your usual rustic taproom. It tends to be full of 30-somethings gathered together for trivia or live music, and there's a great collection of IPAs to carry everyone through the night. You can also come by during the day if you just want to sit at a picnic table and take it easy while you drink your farmhouse-style ale. Either way, be sure to hit the meat vending machine when your group gets a hankering for an entire roll of dry salami. " - Neha Talreja

Yelp
Delightful microbrewery whose output covers a variety of styles. If you're in the scene you've probably at least seen the Coded Tiles IPA around the city. Come to Queens and see where the magic happens. Taproom is cute with bar seating and big long tables for large groups or to share amongst several smaller parties. The bathrooms function properly. Service is great, everyone who works here is knowledgeable and friendly. I did unfortunately get burned last Saturday when I dropped by at a quarter past eleven at night and found the place closed. They don't seem to have a phone number listed and I never got an explanation for why they weren't open during the hours listed on their website. I'll be cautious in the future about stopping by on the "late" side. Currently they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays as well.

Yelp
Low key brewery with good vibes. Many pale ale/ sour selections! Had the pleasure of happening upon a Thursday night Argentinian pizza special. (Forgot the name of the company!) They offer small to large pours for reasonable prices. Nice, casual atmosphere. Friendly staff. Parking easy to find in the area. Will be back!

Yelp
Another okay brewery. It adds to the many of these in Long Island City. LIC Beer Project is a lot farther away from the other breweries that I like too. Beer selection is pretty good. The prices are kind of high. Beers have a few styles, and not just IPAs. It also has fruit flavored ones. There's a pretty good variety. It doesn't look like much of a brewery. This is more of a warehouse. It's pretty hard to find. Look for a big garage door that's open. Almost immediately inside is the limited seating area, all located at a bar. There's only a few seats. I came the last time with a friend. We still had trouble finding it because it's just so unassuming. I had the Sour beer. It's about $7 for a pint of each. This beer was okay but not close to the best I've had and this is kind of expensive for just being okay. It also kind of is a bad area. It's usually safe but it's an ugly industrial wasteland for the most part. This is pretty close to the 21st Street MTA station.

One of the Great Brewery that makes delicious IPA has shut they doors. This Brewery is now closed

Yelp
Lic Beer Project... another brewery from NYC area that I can check off my list as "tried". Not to sound too dismissive about it. I am grateful for trying their beer but alas I didn't feel like I had the most memorable craft beer experience with this one. Steve and I had the Humming Dragon, an IPA which was by no means a bad beer but I do seek out something I can remember a beer and a brewery by further down the road and I feel like I didn't get that experience. IPA'S are especially a dime a dozen across the country so when I do order an IPA at a brewery I want to know what the flavor and brewery experience I can remember it by and distinguish it from so many others. Alas I didn't feel like I found that here and perhaps I should have tried something else to make a rigid memory of it. The Humming Dragon meets everything an IPA should have with a hoppy, citrus taste but again it was so similar to many others it kind of just blends in with the rest.

Yelp
I came here on a whim while out for an evening walk. Nicely appointed ambiance and perfect for a refreshing beer. Great options and friendly service. I'll be back!!

Yelp
came on a Thursday night, it was not too crowded, good selections of beers, I had a light ale and it was ok. basic industrial decors w a touch of hipiness. At the time I visit, there's no outdoor seatings but it's quite spacious inside w tall ceiling. the pour was minimal for what they charged, and the vibe was okay, nothing too impressive.

Yelp
One of our go-to beer spots in the area, with lots of IPAs and a good rotation of both standard favorites and new brews. I've liked everything I've tried here over the last year since moving to the area (only tiny thing I don't love is that the pours tend to have a ton of foam). On a bit of an off-the-beaten-track street as others have said, but I've always felt totally safe walking here and definitely worth taking a trip for. Most times we've gone, it's been pretty quiet inside, and there's a good amount of indoor seating for the size (and a little outside). No food, but you can bring your own/have it delivered there, and dog-friendly!

Yelp
Out of the breweries we visited in LIC, this was our least favourite. A lot of IPAs on the menu. The music was very loud, and the choice of music too wasn't enjoyable. We came for a nice drink and left after one.

Yelp
It doesn't exist anymore! Walked there and the business is closed. Most searches still show it as open however.

Yelp
Always been a fan of LIC Beer Project. Their Coded Tiles Pale Ale is one of the best pale ales I've ever had. And I've had several of their other collabs. Stopped by to pick up some beers to go. Lots of selection. Picked up the Oh Snap! (a pretty strong and pretty tasty imperial IPA at 8.5%!). But the main reason I wanted to stop by was for their sour pack - four different fruited Berliner Weisse's, some with lactose. Really calling my name. The Sour Hour (Guava/Passionfruit ) and the Crunk (citra/tangerine/lactose/vanilla) were my favorite. The Vice (cranberry/lime/mint) and the Spellbound (blueberry/lavender/lactose) were also very, very good. Love the inside (especially the neon), but the street out front kinda smells on account of all the industrial dumpsters. So I REALLY hope this stupid pandemic ends (for many other reasons as well).

Yelp
After getting some food near by we ended up here for drinks, it was a gloomy day glad they had inside seating available. They have a decent selection of beers & IPA's , I tried one the IPA's don't recall the name but it was good. Also tried the Sour hour which hubby had gotten & it was decent as well. Decent size location , dimly lit when we came here after eating & drinking near by , since we had been drinking we added to our already nice buzz would have been nice if the music they were playing was more upbeat , they were playing stuff like soft rock type? not bad in general but since we were already buzzed by the time we got here it was kinda putting us to sleep & the gloomy rainy day was not helping our cause. Decent place for drinks, quick service & prices were not bad.

Yelp
Found this place after a long bike ride. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating during COVID. Being a big fan of IPA's this place was awesome. They had 6 different IPA's on tap, tried the Hollows and Higher Burnin and really enjoyed both. They had some fun Halloween decorations up as well. Will definitely be back here soon! You have to buy "food" like all bars. They had bags of pretzels for $1!

Yelp
The beer here is super solid. Really didn't have a beer I didn't like and I went several times so had everything on their menu. The location is in an odd place but that's honestly not necessarily a bad thing. They sell in 6-packs too but unfortunately you can't mix and match.

Yelp
My fiance and I came here after climbing at BK Boulders. We each had flights and they had something to suit each of our tastes. I really enjoyed the Ardent Core. The bartender was super friendly and talkative. We really enjoyed out time at the bar!
google avatar

Yelp
A garage type of place with bench sitting. I was just disappointed that they only serve sour ale, ipa and double ipa on tap that day. My go to is always Pilsner.
google avatar

Christine G.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are definitely fans of this place. A lot of people complaining about variety but the day we were there they had 2 farmstyle saisons, a porter, and IPAs. My boyfriend loved the Pile of Crowns but since they were running low on supply; growlers were no longer being filled and cans were sold out immediately. Definitely stuck around for longer than we had planned to indulge in this beer. The tasting bar is pretty small but they have 2 long tables by the front door for more seating. I could see this place getting crowded but we were there right when they opened on a Sun so it was very quiet. The area is definitely a bit sketchy and out of the way but street parking readily available. Also, a great ramen place and coffee shop a block away so definitely make the trip.

Yelp
If only projects in school involved beer...though I suppose that raises a few red flags......instead, let's stick to beer projects that exist in LIC, like the one that takes all those words and makes this a quality beer spot. LICBP was the final brewery stop of a day filled with the aforementioned city's best, and things ended on a tasty note. On a side note/other note/musical note, a live band at a brewery is a recipe for success, and we knew that's what was coming as we strolled up to the opened warehouse door and headed to the bar. That success continued though halted a bit with the lack of flight availability. Hey, you could always ask for a little taste (which is what I did), though the way the guy behind the bar looked at me, I wasn't about to try everything. Regardless, what I did try, was superb. It started with Top-to-Bottom, an imperial mosaic double IPA and continued to Flyest, a session IPA. Yes, LIC does hold a heavy hand for those three abbreviated (hop-induced) letters, but that's a good thing (if you're willing to give em a chance). T-to-B was juicy and totally checked all the boxes for a DIPA (with a nice 8.5% ABV to boot). As for Flyest, well it makes sense it gets the "est" suffix. If there was a Fly and Flyer, then they've got nothin' on this sucker. One of the better session IPA's I've had. Overall, LIC Beer Project deserves high marks for its ability to dole out quality brews. Maybe I wasn't head over heels with the staff or lack of flight/taster options, but that shouldn't discredit the beer. I'd love to come back and try more. So for now, consider this a 4.5 rounded down and leave the glue and popsicle sticks at home (school project joke).

Yelp
LIC Beer Project fits the bill for a great all-around neighborhood brewery. Are all the beers world class? No. Is it a avante garde technological wonder? No. But their pales, IPAs and sours are consistently good-great (higher burnin hits the spot), their staff are super nice and down to earth, they allow outside food, and they're inviting! With the garage door open on a breezy night, you can't ask for much more. Solidly worth a trip.
google avatar

Yelp
These are among the best beers out there. The tap room is very nice and there is a good amount of seating space. The place is open and you get to sneak peaks of the workings of the brewery. They have a little vending machine with quality cured meats at good prices. Also potato chips and you could bring or order food from elsewhere. The only thing I didn't like was the garbage at the front of the place ... it was a hot day and the smell was almost unbearable. Overall I think it's a cool place but you come here for the amazing beer.
google avatar

Gabriella A.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! I came here with some friends to celebrate my birthday. I wanted a place that was laid back with good beer and that is exactly what I got. There were 8 beers on tap. I tried 3: Unicorn apocalypse, Coded Tiles, and Dutch Kills. All of them were really great! There were games that you could play, free popcorn, and a meat vending machine. Yup, you heard right. Meat. Vending. Machine. There isn't any food you can order, so we ordered 4 pizzas and it was delivered right out front! It was honestly the best place I could have picked for my birthday, and I would love to go again soon!
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Well made, quality beers in a cool, raw space environment make this a fun Friday night out. Quite a few IPA selections. All very flavorful and well described. I had the farm style ale which was very unique in flavor and tasty. There are a good combination of high table seats and bar seats conducive to casual drinks, catching up or playing games. Bonus: fresh popcorn from the popcorn machine with truffle salt complimented the beers nicely.
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Brewery itself was really good! Small space and it seemed like they had an event so maybe we went on the wrong day. The beers were decent. The bar staff seemed aggitated that we ordered tasting sized pours and not larger glasses, but it didn't say anywhere if there was a limit so not sure what that was about. I usually lean more towards sour beers. They had a key lime pie sour that was SUPER tart but tasted so much like key lime. Overall a good time!
google avatar

Kiran R.

Yelp
Haven't visited since I moved out of LIC... was right down the block from and visited a few times. They open their large front door ( maybe formerly a garage door for a warehouse) and provide ample space for you to hang out. If I remember correctly, I think they had space to play cornhole. The beers they had at the time were not my favorite, but they were trying to create some new beers of their own. Don't know how it is now, but if you are ever in LIC and want a beer, try it

Yelp
One of the better breweries in a neighborhood with plenty of them. LICBP has a diverse set of styles on tap: a lot of IPAs, but also a few sours, saisons, a stout, and a pilsner, such that there's probably something for everyone. Compared to some NYC breweries that lean heavily on a single style, I appreciated the variety here. Most beers are available as tasters, half-pints, or pints (@ $4, $6, and $8, respectively). The seating area is pretty bare-bones, with a bunch of picnic tables and a few bar seats. Even on a weekend afternoon, it wasn't too hard to get a table, and it'd be pretty easy to accommodate a large group. The surrounding area doesn't have too much going on, but it's right off the F, and the rest of the LIC brewery scene is a quick Uber / Lyft or a 15-20 min. walk away, making it ideal for bar-hopping.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in today on a long work trip and was greeted by a most-excellent individual from Astoria. In my beer induced haze I neglected ask her name, but she was friendly, cool, and all-around accommodating. The experience was top notch, as was the beer (The IPA spiced with cinnamon was legit). Despite the obvious fact that I wasn't a local, the beer was great, the service was better, and the place was awesome. I'll be back next time I'm in LIC!
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for LIC's inaugural Halloween party and had a blast. You would think throwing a Halloween party the first time and there would be some hiccups, but not at all! Everything from the decorations to the dedication of the bartenders (I see you roadkill) was magnificently pulled together. I enjoyed many a delicious porter! They had a DJ, photobooth and dogs! DOGS. Need I say more? With all that drinking we were also able to buy tacos from The Little Chef. They were delicious and helped soak up all of what we were eating. I wish the location was a little better, or rather, public transportation was a little bit better in this area, but it's definitely worth the trek and return. I look forward to coming back here on a regular night and pick up some cans.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Must love beer. Yes, I know. Obvious. I'm not a beer drinker so not having a wine option was a bit rough for me. But if you love beer, you're set. They have a ton of selections. I think all the beers are around $8. The warehouse is cute. And you can order food to be delivered there. The music is nice. And it gets pretty busy in the afternoon so if you are avoiding crowds go earlier.
google avatar

Andy J.

Yelp
The beer was solid but not great in my opinion. The focus seems to be on easy drinking IPA's, which may be a sweet spot for their crowd. However, I was hoping to find a higher IBU IPA and maybe some porter or stout selections too. The facilty has lots of character and there is a good amount of seating. I can see why some would rate this place higher. However, there are no televisions to watch sporting events nor are there activities to play to keep the group busy over a period of time. Good brewery, but not someplace I would seek out to return to in the future. Definitely worth a visit If you are nearby.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
I consider this an LIC gem for the quality of the beer. Guaranteed to always have amazing IPA's that you can't find anywhere else... along with a lot of dogs. Smaller and quieter brewery compared to Fifth Hammer, also more of a hipster vibe.
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
Really good beer, mediocre pours. Refreshing and easy IPAs. My bf and I ordered 4, and they were all consistently 15-20% foam. We asked the bartender to remove some foam and she stated that they pour that way intentionally.

Yelp
LIC Beer Project is a really awesome...project...smack in the middle of Long Island City. It's close(ish) to other beer brewers like Rockaway Brewing Co., Big Alice Brewing and Transmitter so that's sweet. It's also another patch in the tightly knit beer brewery quilt that has been keeping beer lovers warm in Queens in recent years...mmmm...craft beer. "Project" is definitely the right term to use for this place. Last time I was here was as part of the Queens Beer Book. They have many taps/spigots behind the bar, but only 3 kegs actually tapped. _________________________________________________ The beers I sampled here were (in order of highest ABV to lowest): + Trigger Rye (7% ABV): This beer pours almost like a champagne - it was a hazy yellow, had visible carbonation, a floral aroma and a slight sourdough bread-like finish. This was my fave of the three but was almost tied with the next beer... + Ardent Core (6.5% ABV): This beer had a funky spice to it and featured cardamom notes. I really liked it, though I could see myself sessioning this less than I would the Trigger Rye. + Brett Saison (5.5% ABV): It's a good solid beer, but personally not as delightful to me as the previous two. _________________________________________________ Other Perks of LIC Beer Projects is just how large their space is. They have a few tables, chairs, stools around the entrance and a great cornhole set up towards the back/right-side. I love cornhole and even own a small set...this is a really fun, cool place to go to on a date or with a modestly sized group. I can't wait to see what other beers come out of here :).
google avatar

Ingrid S.

Yelp
Project is actually a good description for this place. Its a work in progress as they only had three beers on tap from their brewery. However, all three beers that I got to try were not too shabby. Trigger Rye (7%): Rye Saison that boasts it holds a ton of hops but tastes smooth like liquid gold. More yeasty than anything and tastes like bread. Mmmm golden delicious bread. This was my favorite. Brett Saison (5.5%): A Belgium brewed saison that I honestly didn't like too much and it had a funky after taste. Ardent Core (6.5%): Yet another saison but a healthy marriage of the two. It's like we've reached a pretty good harmony finally of having those hops and an intense and acceptable enough flavor. Rounds out nicely with a strong taste and aroma of cardamom while still balancing a refreshing lite aspect. Downsides: The bathroom situation was a fail. One of the two bathrooms' lock didn't work and its that situation where the door is too far away from the toilet to be able to hold it and go at the same time. The other bathroom when I came here in December's lights didn't work. So you had your option: pee in the dark or cross your fingers that you don't get walked in on. Another thing, they have like 12 taps on the bar with only 3 beers. Kind of a bummer if you are coming all the way out here but hope they have some more fun new things in stock for the future. Upsides: This place is HUGE! Enormous ceilings, the bar area is a little bit tiny and there is minimal seating but if you are coming here for just a beer it's a-okay. They allow outside food because there is none. Best part of the bar though really is that they have cornhole set up on the floor.
google avatar

Yelp
Our last stop of the day for Brewhopping. LIC Beer Project is located in the middle of warehouse area in LIC (AKA the ghetto). You can get here by subway, only a few blocks from Queensboro Plaza (N/Q/7) or Queensbridge (F) This place is very well decorated. You can either sit at the bar or hang out around those barrels. When we got there some folks were playing cornhole. I thought that was pretty interesting. We got some Saison/Farmhouse Ale and Dutch Kölsch. Personally, I think there were decent. Perhaps we've been drinking all day, so we don't taste anything different anymore. ;-( The place looks super cool nonetheless.
google avatar

Pablo V.

Yelp
Quick recap: if you like beer. Come. If you like free popcorn. Come. If you hate either or both, seek help ASAP. This place is dope.
google avatar

Gerry S.

Yelp
Food: They welcome outside food. They also have menus for you to order food to be delivered there as you enjoy their amazing beers. Brew: They are cooking up some delicious Belgium inspired beers with great body and aromas. The Ardent Core was my favorite. The menu is short and sweet. The decor is simple, clean, and welcoming. It's located between warehouses in Long Island City. The bar is small but plenty of seats and standing areas for you to be comfortable. I will be returning soon.

Paula C.

Yelp
Great neighborhood brewery. "Uncle Andy " was the best host. Let us sample his great beers with a detailed explanation of every one. A guy who truly loves his job and knows his craft. If you love beer, I would highly recommend
google avatar

Dusten F.

Yelp
Don't let the exterior appearance fool you. They have a small a-frame sign in front of the door with their hours on it, don't look for an electric open sign as you won't find one. If you're looking for a place where the people are friendly, that has a solid line up (both on tap and canned) and where the staff is passionate about the industry they're in then hurry your tail over to LIC Beer Project. I travel a lot for work and usually alone, it also doesn't help much that I'm an introvert who also likes to get out to see and do things....but the staff and patrons here made me feel at home and welcomed. Keep up the amazing work!
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Love the decor and feel of this bar. It's in a warehouse/actual distillery, with barrels on the walls and as tables. I think they purposefully don't pull up the garage door al the way so that it's a more discrete spot. They only serve beer, 7 types of it, and almost all of them are IPAs. No food but you can order delivery to this spot. I got the Trigger Rye, which was really good. Really nice, casual crowd-and they have a bunch of games you can play including a giant Uno card game-we played it and I can tell you-shuffling these cards was not easy! It got crowded later but still not stuffy. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
Was here for a networking event during the week and was impressed with the space and the beer. I like the philosophy of the brewmaster...he's very true to his vision and isn't chasing trends by brewing super hoppy IPAs or anything like that. He seemed to be really into the science of brewing and was concerned about balance in flavor. I tried three beers and give them all thumbs up. Smooth, drinkable, full-bodied. Even the pale ale had depth and wasn't the watery mess you sometimes find. I think this is a project worth of supporting, if only to find out how their experiments with secondary fermentation turn out! Can't give it five start because of lack of food availability and the fact that it's only open weekends (although I understand the constraints of a new place, so I get why that's the case). But definitely four strong stars. Worth the stroll through a very industrial section of LIC.

Howard U.

Yelp
A taproom where you can be yourself and bartenders are chill and easygoing. Most down-to-earth of the LIC brewery tour. Friendly spot to take your dog, order takeout, and sample from their ever-changing menu of IPAs, sours, saisons and more. Beers are always crushable. Don't be afraid to ask bartender for recommendations.
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
I've been here 2 times now and I have to say that the beer is very good but the tasting room and the smell is the absolute pits. It was a fair summer day in low 80's. The tasting room was stuffy, warm, and smelled of sewer pits of King's Landing. There were cesspools of unknown murky liquid along the curb in front of the brewery with garbage bins of spent grain just stewing in the sun and dripping foulness on the streets. There were still people drinking beer in the tepid stewing foul smelling tasting room so maybe that says something but I got the heck out of there. What the heck LICBP.
google avatar

Mingee P.

Yelp
This place is very different to any brewery/bar I've ever been to. It has a wide open front setting, and you can also see the back area where they brew it. (Not sure if that's the term for it, but you get my drift!) anyways- they do only have one bar, but the bartenders are really nice and their recommendations? LISTEN TO IT! I went in, full as anything. But I wanted to at least try a beer. I love IPA's so I ended up debating between 2 types and I could not decide. The bartender gladly helped me out and the IPA he suggested was bomb.com! They have a little dress up photo prop area and it was super hilariouuuus. Loved it! Had a good time here and people were pretty nice :) I would def come here again when I'm a little bit less on the full stomach side lol; but this place was def a different experience for my friends, husband and I. I'd say this is more of a chill/relax type of place :)

Jae C.

Yelp
Small cute local LIC brewery. The staffs are very friendly. Small beer I believe was about $4 and the bigger ones are about $6-7. Definitely get the bigger size as I find small ones to be expensive. They don't sell any food but have free popcorns. This place is a good definition of a "micro" brewery. Also very very local.
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
Love that this place is nice & clean. It's great for small & big groups. It's also surprisingly a family spot too as we saw a couple of people bring their babies & kids here. They have a good selection of beers here. Mostly IPA's. It's a nice chill spot here.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
Very chill vibe. The crowd was very LIC - as evidenced by the strollers and dogs. They had a big projector up for the game which was cool. The beers though - wow I do love their offerings. They had a pinkish lemonade-y sour beer that was insane. Try it. Even if you're not totally into sours. They have a rotating food truck selection outside every day it seems. When we went, it was a momo truck which was super delicious.
google avatar

Shaji K.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon on a lonesome brewery run in LIC. Surprisingly large spot in a not-so-great area off of Queensbridge, Table space up front, counter space at the bar, and large walking space abound. Started off with the Manhattanhenge IPA ($7) - a hoppy bitter with not too much flavor otherwise. Next up was the Drop A Gem ($7) - an imperial IPA with a little bit of citrus peel flavor to go along with the heavy handed hops. No food to speak of, but the bartender is hella nice, so probably could order in. Seen a lot of their brews around, so expect an ever-changing draft list. Seems like a good place for parties or groups.
google avatar

Greg F.

Yelp
One of my very favorite of the new wave of NY breweries making a rotating array of fruity, hazy New England style IPAS. Higher Burnin is amazing. The space itself is great for visiting for a tasting, though I wish there had been a food truck or some other munchies available.

Yelp
LIC Beer Project you pass with flying colors. Good beer plus welcoming space plus distress cool plus, plus, plus this place is "gucci". While the space is a little out of the way; the trip is worth it. Tap Room comfortable. Chairs, tables, neutral lighting, noise level all smooth and chilling. Since, I am an IPA fan; guess what, two words: "IPA please". I liked their IPA. Very tasty. Standard IPA profile, taste, etc. Certainly would be a beer I would enjoy regularly. Tap Rooms are a great place to have a couple of beers with friends and family. Corny, right, but LICBR does a good job with "the beer experience". Beer plus tap room equals the beer experience. Simple concept, but sometimes difficult to execute. LIC Beer Project is a great place to enjoy some good tasting beer. It is comfortable. Plenty of room to move. Clean restrooms. Cool space. Distressed decor. Just fun with good beer. My kind of place......
