Discount Grocery Chain Lidl to Open First Brooklyn Outpost | Eater NY

"I learned that the popular German grocery store Lidl—known for its discounted prices and generous employee benefits—plans to open a 25,000-square-foot supermarket at 120 Fifth Avenue (at Baltic Street) in Park Slope in 2024; the new store will occupy a property formerly home to Key Foods and is expected to open in tandem with a residential development at the same address." - Luke Fortney

I’m a German living in NYC and I’m so stoked that I now have a LIDL close by and that you’re opening more stores. Not only can I now get my German quality bread rolls and bread loafs for a great price, your prices also beat every other supermarket. I can finally afford groceries again and feel like I’m home at the same time. Your prices and especially the quality of the Bakery is mind blowing to Americans. THANK YOU LIDL! Check out the attached pictures where I compared regular supermarket prices with LIDL!

The Lidl's in Hazlet, NJ was our go to grocery shopping when we lived in Middletown, NJ. We were extremely happy when our daughter told us a Lidl opened a few blocks from her Brooklyn apartment. Our first visit there last week did not disappoint. The varieties and prices were as good as we remembered. Aisles were clean and wide, the staff tried to be inconspicuous but still courteous. We have gone back 2 times more, but our son and daughter have made this their regular grocery shopping stop.

I just went for a wander at the new Lidl on Fulton Street across from DeKalb market. Definitely worth a shopping trip especially if you need frozen fish! I bought for less than 20 bucks: 1 lb frozen wild caught shrimp that are not salted. Sardines in mustard sauce White asparagus in the jar. Bruschetta topping of sun dried tomatoes and capers A jar of capers. There's a lot of interesting items that are edible and some that are not... There are certainly bargains and things that make me curious like: Potato chips with 50% more flavor Canned herring with tomato and mango chutney... Inordinately large trowels They have a little shopping carts for kids that are super cute. The problem I witnessed is getting the kids to give the shopping cart back at the checkout. There were tears...

Went today to pick up some pastries. The first floor is the bakery and they have self checkout machines but you have to pay with card. You can bring the baked goods upstairs if you want to pay with cash. The line wasn’t too bad. I love their apple turnover and raisin swirl.

Good store, with a good variety of products. Staff is nice and plenty of cash registers. Great prices too. Will see if they maintain this quality in the upcoming months.

We a loyal customer to Lidl and we visit diferent store. But this store is the #1 not to visit again specially on winter season. We was doing food shopping but in order to do so we was needed to use the restrooms, the bathroom has sign on door that says "proof of receipt required" A employee was about to use the restrooms and we ask him he told us we need to show receipt, we was about to sped almost $300 on food shopping but we ended spending $$12.76 after that we almost has to beg a lady to please open the door for us. ALSO RESTROOMS WERE NOT CLEAN. For a store that requires receipt for restrooms use it should be very clean. Never again to this store.

A supermarket that recently opened up downtown and I would compare this to an Aldis. I love that it's located in a very central easy to travel to location in Brooklyn on Fulton Street. Before I even knew it was a store I could smell the fresh baked bread and was trying to figure out where that was coming from. The foods look very fresh and are affordable. I particularly like to get the specialty cheeses here and they have a lot of variety. The one con that they have and probably will address over time is the lack of cashiers, or open lines to check out. A person can expect to wait a very long time to purchase their items , but in the long run there are a lot of savings. I think it's an easy fix once they established scheduling and steady workers.

Yelp
Great grocery store. Love their bakery department. Delicious croissants and brioche rolls. Competitive prices; lots of sales. Download the app for special deals. This store is becoming my go to grocery store. Very conveniently located right across the street from target and Trader Joe's. It also has a self check out, which is very convenient when it's available.

Yelp
I was in the area today and since I needed paper napkins and garlic, I decided to drop in to check it out. Upon first impression, many products were of unknown brands. There were some good finds but this store isn't my cup of tea. The layout seemed disorderly as well. I usually shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's or Union Market. I ended up making a purchase of napkins, garlic and a box of Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Herbal tea. That was it and can't go wrong with such items. Wanted to check out the store since I was on Fulton Street. Pretty sure I won't be back.

Yelp
I love that NYC is getting more Lidl locations, and this one is in a great spot right across from City Point, so I can fill in the gaps for things Trader Joe's doesn't sell. Two floors, with bakery and beverages downstairs for easy grab-and-go, and the rest of the groceries upstairs. When I stopped by, it wasn't too crowded in the aisles, and the shelves were pretty well-stocked (other than the items in the sales circular). Prices are affordable. I was already a rewards member from going to the Lidl in SI, but would recommend signing up before going for rewards, discounts, and the yearly birthday treat. Hoping for more Lidl stores all around Brooklyn!

Yelp
I usually stop by this location after work.To pick up different things that I need for home. It's a large layout with the bakery downstairs and the rest of the shopping upstairs. It's a little inconvenient for people with disabilities, but they do have a motorized cart for those who need it.

Yelp
An excellent addition especially with Trader Joe's and Target nearby. The bakery is at the lowest level and the food on the second. I thought it would be very crowded since it just opened recently but it was a smooth experience. I'll definitely be back because of the unbeatable prices!

Yelp
I like the store but every time I shop there the store is always out of reusable bags. It's a lot of people that shop every day , all day downtown Brooklyn. The store should never run out , especially early in the afternoon.
