I overheard a woman ask if the puppy she was looking at was housebroken. I occasionally transport puppies to Lifeline from Texas. Without Lifeline, these puppies have a very poor chance at any life. In Colorado, they have a good chance of being adopted into really good homes. YOU, as an adopter, need to remember these are puppies, they are babies - they do not come housebroken, they will chew, make mistakes, they need you to teach them. Peeing on the floor is an accident, not a felony. YOU are making a life-long commitment to this dog YOU are choosing. Also remember some of these dogs have traveled a very long way, left everything they've known, have been vetted/spayed/neutered (thank you Lifeline!!), all in a very short time. They are tired, they may be frightened. Look at YOUR lifestyle - do you want a dog to hang on the couch, to jog with you, to hike with you, to play ball with your kids? Do some research BEFORE you pick a dog - they have everything you could possibly want at Lifeline, know what you want the dog FOR before you get there. Thank you. (There's the best book called Good Dogs, Great Owners by Brian Kilcommons. It's the best book on dog ownership. Please get it - the library, Ebay, the bookstore, where ever - and read it before you choose.) If you aren't willing to calmly, kindly, teach a dog, don't get a dog.
