Texas Launches $50 Million Loan Program, Which Could Help Restaurants | Eater Austin

"A San Antonio–based nonprofit acting as the intermediary for $25 million of a $50 million small-business relief pool provided by Goldman Sachs; it will select and distribute funds to local businesses through its application process while the remainder is funneled through other community development financial institutions. Loans are issued under the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program and Goldman’s 10,000 Small Business program; after eight weeks participating businesses must document eligible use of funds (payroll, rent, utilities) for forgiveness, at which point the SBA reimburses the nonprofit and it repays Goldman. Applications for loans up to $250,000 were being accepted on the nonprofit’s website through June 30." - Nadia Chaudhury

I recently applied for a loan after meeting all the listed requirements. However, I accidentally applied for $1,700. My credit score is currently high, and I strongly believe I was discriminated against during the process. When I initially called, I was told that I had negative items on my credit report. I corrected them by explaining that I do not have anything in collections. Shortly after, they contacted me again stating that my income was insufficient for the $1,700 loan — despite the fact that I make at least $6,000 per month. Their communication was dismissive and unprofessional throughout the process. What makes this situation even more concerning is that I applied for a loan with them two years ago when my credit was low and I had no income, and I was denied then as well. Now, with excellent credit and a solid income, I was denied again. This inconsistency suggests discrimination, as there’s no valid financial reason for the denial.

I APPLIED JULY 2, 2025 Poor Service & No ACCOUNTABILITY was approved for a loan, but because of a small mistake on my application, LiftFund is now demanding a different license than the one I already have on file. All I wanted was to correct my error, but every call I’ve made has been met with rudeness, lies, and zero accountability. I’ve been told for over two weeks that no supervisor is available, my calls are “escalated” but never returned, and their decision is “final.” Staff talk over me, refuse to help, and show no professionalism or respect for small business owners who pay taxes and are trying to grow. This program is supposed to help people, but instead, I’ve been met with delays, bad attitudes, and no real solutions. I’m asking for a supervisor or the CEO to contact me directly—this is unacceptable.

Liftfund was great! Our experience was the best I could have hoped for. We transitioned out of the business we originally partnered up with Liftfund for and Ricardo worked with us to help us to utilize the programs they had to give us some time to get the loan paid back without hurting us in the process. I felt that they genuinely cared about our situation and wanted to help us! That's rare among businesses these days and I was glad we partnered with Liftfund for our needs!

Please don’t waste your time. I waited two months and gave them a tremendous amount of information about my personal and business and was simply denied. My business has been thriving for 4 years and wanted to expand. My credit score is above 750. I’m a veteran and minority. Not that matters but the company advertise these additions that people lure in so they will apply. I will go to a bank or credit union to get financial support. That’s my next move and happy to do so.

I would not recommend working with this company if you plan to purchase from an overseas supplier, particularly from China. They seem unable or unwilling to process transactions involving international vendors, which caused unnecessary delays and frustration. Is not the SBA requirements, is the company!

Attorney General Please please Investigate!! Better Business Bureau please investigate the practices. Look for patterns of discrimination or abuse towards customers. Terrible Company treats customers less than human and not with dignity. Veterans and Disable should not do business. USAA should not do business with this company. The employees team up and mess with certain customers, block access to their accounts and force additional late payments. Even when you do the to treat them with respect and dignity. The owner and Supervisor must know what is going on in their company. They treat you nice getting a loan but horrible after. You are their stress punching bag. All for less than one 30 day late payment. It doesn’t make sense but that is my experience with them. May not be the case but starting to wonder if this is prejudice disguised. They are predominately Hispanic worker, and I am not. They have my picture on file. I hope this is not the case. Avoid this company and seek other options!

Hello, I do not recommend applying or obtaining a loan from Lift Fund. I will give my reasons as follows. I took out a substantial loan from Lift Fund in December 2022. I made my payments as agreed. As part of their loan agreement the applicant is required to obtain credit life and credit disability insurance through SWBC. They will not approve the loan without it. I paid the insurance in advance for the 5 year term of the loan which is ludicrous. I never seen that requirement before in a loan. Normally the insurance would be paid monthly not for the entire 60 month term of the loan. The agreement was that Lift Fund would reimburse any unused portion of the credit life insurance policy. I paid off my loan in full early after one year. I was told I would be receiving the insurance reimbursement in about 2-3 weeks. I made countless calls and emails only to get false information from Lift Fund about the insurance reimbursement. One line was your check is in the mail and you can expect to receive it on 4/15/24. I still have not received my reimbursement check. My advice is stay away from this SBA loan company called Lift Fund. They were recommended by the Small Business Administration.
