The Best Restaurants in Wimbledon, London | Eater London

"Slightly out of Wimbledon village, is the Light House, a solid neighbourhood restaurant that’s been serving contemporary British food with dishes like pancetta wrapped hake, salt duck hash, and treacle tart to locals since 1999. The focus is on seasonality with daily specials and an excellent, democratic wine list." - Johanna Derry

A lovely place to hang out with friends. The menu is small but well chosen, with some nice healthy breakfast options. I really enjoyed my porridge and the juice — it was a bit on the small side, but very fresh and tasty. Overall, a cosy spot with a nice atmosphere. I’d definitely go back.

We had an excellent lunch today at Light on the Common. Beautifully decorated (I love the fabulous light fitting) with a buzzy atmosphere and obviously well liked in the area. We had starters, mains and desserts. The mains ranged from a delightfully creamy pumpkin ravioli with leek fondue to a superb confit duck; pan fried salmon and a super food bowl with chicken were also sampled by the other members of the party. The service is extremely good and we would certainly recommend this restaurant.

The food was really tasty, we had the hash and the tortelloni - everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The service was a bit slow and the restaurant had a weird smell but apart from that everything was great.

I don't like that this place has received some negative reviews. Being local to here I've visted quite a few times and its always been fantastic. We should support small independent businesses. The food and service was excellent. Thank you again

Full of light at the back with attentive Staff. I had the chicken kebab with lots of flavour.

So much potential given decor and location, but food was lacking flavour and variety. Limited brunch menu options… Coffees were average at best. Service treated us to free bread after we were asked to move tables - which can happen - but all in all lot of room for improvement.

Other than a couple of the younger staff, the service is always unwelcoming and rushed/stressed. You feel like you’re imposing on them to actually walk in there! Really bad vibe. Food is prepared well but nothing unique. Chips pictured are extortionately overpriced.

We have just come home from visiting this little gem of a place for the first time. My husband and I were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary, only we forgot to make a booking, but that wasn't an issue as we were accommodated with ease and welcomed warmly, no fuss at all. Lovely table, nice atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. Portions were generous, but when we found out desserts can be ordered "to go" we couldn't resist. On the way out we chatted to the barman who told us they do live music every Friday! We will certainly be back for that, and more. Thank you for a beautiful evening.

Yelp
Nice enough atmosphere and we were able to get a table on a Saturday (we did have to wait about 40 mins which we expected without a reservation). The food bowls were good and very nutritious. The falafel was dry which was a shame as that's the only thing I ordered! Thankfully others shared their food at the table. The bread was nice and warm but we asked for oil and vinegar which never came. We had to ask 3 different people for the bill which when you're in a hurry is a bit annoying. This place is nice though if you're looking for a clean, lighter lunch option and aren't in a hurry.

Yelp
It is an ok place. Big on the laid back attitude yet a wee bit unfriendly. Food is good. Burger is nice. Nice and spacious seating options.

Yelp
I really like this place - very cute atmosphere and delish food. I would say that the portions were a bit small for the price and the service was a bit lacking but we were also in a rush. For brunch, I had the duck hash with poached egg and peppercorn sauce with a side of chorizo. Amazing, but the side of chorizo was smaller than any chorizo i had seen ever! My friend had the avocado on courgette fritter, equally tasty but also quite small. My other friend had the cod which looked amazing and was quite filling so definitely more value for money there. All in all, i would go again, but just be mindful of the portions when ordering and if youre hungry :)

Yelp
We visited Light Cafe on the recommendation of a diner more organised than me, i.e. the one who would book a table for the insanely busy Saturday lunch trade in WImbledon... she said it was the best place in the village. I can't claim that's true, as I haven't eaten everywhere in the village (and I do like the burgers in the giant pub round the corner....), but we had a lovely meal. We all had salads - January's health kick has made a resurgence - although mine was a salad in name only really. There was some rocket to make me feel healthy, but otherwise it was some chunky slices of really good ham with a fantastic celeriac remoulade. The mustard had a kick and a bit - made my nose twitch - and the poached egg made it very indulgent. Everything seemed fresh and well prepared - yellow beetroot and mackerel and a pleasingly sized lump of goats cheese. It was so good we decided to have dessert, and sadly, they lost their fifth star here. The menu promised so much, and for the most part it was all good... but I ordered the ginger pudding in order to get the custard. I asked for EXTRA custard. While the ginger pudding was delicious (though could have been less savoury,, in a strange way), it came with what can only be described, generously, as 2 tablespoons of custard. It had almost soaked into the pudding by the time I got my spoon into it. I was very saddened. I couldn't even tell if it was good custard. That aside, the service was friendly and the afternoon tea spread they were just pulling out of the oven as we left looked and smelled fantastic. I'll go back, probably for tea with a brownie... They do a set menu in the evening as well, which sounds bargainous.

Yelp
The Light Cafe is a ten minute walk from my house and replaces the old Tootsie Grill that was the preferred breakfast choice of so many locals. For my mum's birthday, we decided to go for breakfast at the Light Cafe. Despite being fairly quiet for a Saturday morning, we received appalling service, overpriced food and no apology. The kitchen muddled our orders, which is fine - these things happen. But my mum had to wait forty minutes before her meal arrived. The Full English breakfast arrives with HALF a toast - so you have eggs, sausages, mushrooms etc, and HALF a toast. When we ordered more, it arrived precisely half an hour after we had finished our meals. Basic things like meals arriving without cutlery and tea without milk or sugar occurred. As we politely mentioned this to various waiters, we were given absolutely no acknowledgement of their mistake or apology. What was to be a lovely occasion was wrecked. In spite of the appalling service, the breakfast is overpriced - the portions are tiny and the air around the waiters is one of pretension and arrogance. If you want a good breakfast experience with friendly service, hop along the road to Maison St Cassien or Le Pain Quotidien. Honestly, take it from a local.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant for breakfast. It is overpriced and you get half a toast with your eggs. The service poor - the waiter got our order wrong and when this was highlighted, they were very dismissive. As Wimbledon locals, we know there are excellent places to have a breakfast/brunch/dinner in and they are all minutes away from this restaurant.
