Google
I have been to countless wineries in Virginia and across the country, and Lightwell Survey is now in my top three. Every single wine on their tasting menu was so unique and delicious in its own way. The host was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of each wine. True to their wine making mission the tasting room is unique, fun, and not pretentious. Best of all, they are completely dog friendly! Shelby had a great time inside and out. Thanks for having us!

I visited Lightwell Survey’s tasting room after discovering a bottle of their wine at Jardin in Richmond and decided to venture out to taste all of their wines. The tasting room was so quaint and all of the wines were fantastic. Brennan was so knowledgeable and was a joy to chat with during our tasting. The best part was how dog friendly they are! Shelby loved getting to enjoy the winery with us!

Best wine I've had in Virginia so far (and we've been to quite a few). So glad we finally got to check this place out. Cool space and an excellent experience tasting their wines--super friendly and knowledgeable employees.

Yelp
TLDR: You have to check out this super cool spot. I celebrated my birthday at this tasting room and had an absolute blast! ***LOCATION*** The tasting room is located in a sort of warehouse space. Your GPS can take you there, but once you go through the gate, you'll want to go straight until you can't anymore, and make a right. From there you'll see some signs for the tasting room. You can park your car next to the tasting room. ***EXPERIENCE*** Their tasting room officially opens every Saturday, May 11 until October. I emailed them to schedule a tasting for me and nine of my friends and Melissa was beyond helpful. She responded quickly to my emails and was so kind. Their tasting was $20 for EIGHT wines! Yes you read that right, eight wines. And they were GENEROUS pours. If you're familiar with The Veil in RVA, this feels like wine version. The vibes and design here are just so cool. It's a super casual environment. My friends and I were coming from a long outdoor day and we were happy for a chill spot. The friends of mine who were more comfy in brewery settings/intimidated by vineyards were really happy for the casualness of the tasting. Melissa really elevated the experience. She educated us about the wine's/winemaker's backgrounds and answered all our questions. She gave us our own private room too. We loved it. The group's favorite wine was the Troddenvale cider collab COLORWAVE. It was also fun to learn the winemakers like to use petit manseng in most of their wines. We also got to go home with some of our favorite labels. ***PRICE*** You can't beat $20 for a tasting of eight wines. Bottles ranged from $25-35. ***BATHROOM*** The bathroom isn't in the tasting room, but it's in a building nearby. It was described to me having "school bathroom" vibes which made me laugh because this was true. There is a Men and Women's bathroom, but the women's bath room only had one stall. ***CONCLUSION*** I cannot rave enough about this tasting room. Its approachable and cool atmosphere add a million stars to the experience. I highly recommend checking out this hidden gem.

Yelp
What a cool place with a knowledgeable and friendly staff and very unique and well crafted wines! My wife and I had a great time here when we were in the area for our anniversary.

Yelp
Worth going out of your way to try the wines here. The employees we met were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, answering all of our many questions about the fantastic, super unique wines we were trying. Love the focus on grapes that grow well in the area. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We attended the Lightwell Survey Hellawine 2024 party this year. Cool party and the service and atmosphere were great. Got to wear a silly costume, so you can't knock that. We had heard a lot of good things about the winery, the owners, etc, but I admit we were disappointed. Bought a bottle (picture attached) and the label was wrinkled and the ends didn't match up...which was disappointing because their label art is pretty cool...but worthless if the label is applied sloppily. Wine was...well...we had a glass and preferred to pass it around to others so they would finish it...it was a very immature Chambourcin and reminded us of what we would taste at many Virginia wineries a decade or two ago before overall quality really picked up. We understand this business is a side project from some other winemakers at other wineries, but the quality of the wines here were really not up to par with what we consider to be good (or at least above average Virginia wines). TL/DR: fun place to go once, but wine quality and overall polish on the business is lacking.

Yelp
The wine is so good! The people are so kind and fun! We love the industrial feel of the place! We can't wait to go back.
