Yelp
Solid Indian fusion place that's similar to Vij's, which is no surprise given that it's a collab between Vij's and Acorn/ex-Arbor restaurateurs. They have a bunch of vegan options, which is what got us in the door to try the place.
We sat out back in their pretty garden dining area. Their menu is done like Acorn's, in that the smaller portioned items are listed on top, with bigger items at the bottom. We ordered:
-Potato & Cauliflower Pakoras with Mint & Mango Chutney ($10 for happy hour; $15 normally). This came with 5 pieces -- why 5? That won't be evenly divisible for most tables! -- with a really nice batter that wasn't too thick and a nice creamy dip that I wouldn't have called a chutney. Not too oily, with a high vegetable-to-batter ration. This was a nice way to start the meal.
-Sprouted Mung Bean Salad ($8). Don't order this right now -- it needs major revising. Very boring and plain. We told the server about this, and he wiped it from the bill, thanking us for the feedback. Real nice service.
-White Beans & Kale Curry ($17). Super tasty, moderately spicy, moderately rich curry, though I didn't really notice any kale -- perhaps it was pureed and blended into the curry. The beans were does nice, the fried onions were phenomenal in here, and the dish was garnished with chopped fresh tomatoes and raw onion. Excellent dish.
-Sauteed Seasonal Vegetables & Lentil Curry with Pakoras & Tamarind ($26). Solid dish, with lots of carrot, edamame, onion, with 4 pieces of pakora, and a soupy pureed lentil curry. Nice flavours and textures, and very filling.
The food was very tasty other than the one dud. Lots of care was put into the dishes and to the aesthetics. Service was absolutely top-notch.
Reservations recommended, as it gets busy, especially on the weekend.
We'll definitely return in a few months once they've fully dialed in what it is they do. But it's already a nice spot and worth visiting.
