Yelp
Located on the 3rd floor of Macy's at Ala Moana Center, this place offers local-style comfort food in a bright, lively, and comfortable dining room. Unlike the tiny original on Kuakini, this location is huge with lots of booths, tables, and a long counter if you want the classic diner vibe. Even so, expect a 10-15 minute wait, especially on weekends and holidays. (Pro tip: check in at the tablet up front and they'll text or call when your table is ready.)
The Food:
Generous portions, consistent quality. We've been here at least a dozen times over the years and have never had a bad meal.
Breakfast: The omelettes are my go-to. Fluffy eggs, never overcooked, perfectly seasoned. And yes, they have brown rice. Coffee is bottomless.
Lunch/Dinner: My personal favorite is the Oxtail Soup--loaded with tender oxtail, plenty of peanuts, and love the abundance of Chinese parsley. The Fried Chicken and Loco Moco are also excellent, but fair warning: food coma guaranteed.
And no matter when you come--breakfast, lunch, or dinner--you can't resist their Grilled Butter Rolls with jelly. I dare you to eat just one.
Service:
Friendly and welcoming. During peak hours it might take a few minutes for your server to get to you, but once the order's in, the whole team hustles and food comes out surprisingly quick. The staff works hard, and it shows. Honestly, once I've got my coffee (or wine) in hand, I don't mind kicking back and soak in the lively vibes.
Happy Eating!!
