Yelp
Formula:
Take one affable, talented owner, squeeze a tiny kitchen into a spot slightly larger than my closet, add just a bare minimum of tables, offer a minimal but gourmet based menu, then make sure the baked goods' display case faces out to torture all who gaze.
My gaze had become locked. She does carrot cake, a mixed fruit shortcake similar to strawberry shortcake, a beautiful nut and coconut tort, cookies, pies. Good bye to any of my good intentions! But the reason we came was for a healthy, late afternoon repast, just enough to keep us satisfied until our Tuesday night's concert at Hollywood Bowl would end. I managed to unlock my gaze long enough to notice the sandwiches, the rotating list of daily homemade soups, and the turkey chili.
The chili was masterfully seasoned, and of course, excelled with the toppingof a slice of swiss cheese. Turns out she uses very little, if any, salt, but this salt-aholic discovered it was not needed. Her sandwiches were exactly what Mr. B was looking for. His hot pastrami with cheese sandwich and thick, vegan split pea soup were a hit. There were no leftovers.
Lucky for us, she was still open since Yelp had the hours posted incorrectly. Fixed, but not without dismay that so few people know how. Just a thought.
It's a great lunch spot. But it sure is little.
