Lily's Chocolate and Coffee is a coffee and dessert shop owned by siblings, Saifalden and Lily. This is their 2nd location. The first shop was opened in Vienna, Va on July 10, 2021. This shop opened in the last week of May, 2023. My wife and I made 2 visits, and we tried 7 items.
1) Lily's tea had black tea with cardamom. The flavors were nicely balanced with no bitterness. A smooth and calming tea that was truly enjoyable! It came in a 10 oz cup.
2) Their Turkish coffee was smooth and strong flavored with no bitterness. It was full-bodied with notes of chocolate and nuts. There were plenty of grounds at the bottom of the cup. That's Turkish coffee done right! It was easy to drink and I was loving it! It came in a 10 oz cup.
3) The Honey Cinnamon latte comes in 2 sizes, medium and large. The medium was about 16 oz. It was sweet with a fair amount of cinnamon flavor. The coffee was mild tasting. It's very good if you're looking for a sweet latte with a bit of spice.
4) The Toffee Nut latte comes in 2 sizes, medium and large. We got a medium size. This was mildly sweet with a dark roasted nut flavor. The coffee flavor was stronger in this latte compared to the Honey Cinnamon latte. This is my type of latte!
5) Ruby Lockma is a lockma filled with vanilla cream and topped with ruby chocolate sauce and slices of strawberry. Lockma is a deep-fried ball of leavened dough. It was light, crispy, airy, and slightly sweet. The sauce was sweet and had the flavors of white chocolate and raspberry. It was a little too sweet for me, but the pieces that were only half covered with sauce tasted great. Lockmas are sold in boxes of 5, 8, or 18 pieces.
FYI: Ruby chocolate is marketed as a fourth type of chocolate. The other 3 being milk, dark, and white. Belgium chocolate company, Barry Callebaut, developed and patented a process to make ruby chocolate in 2004. It was brought to market in 2017. The flavor is described as a sweet fresh berry taste with a hint of sour berry smoothness.
6) The Nutella Lockma was filled with chocolate cream and topped with nutella sauce and crushed hazelnuts. I'm nuts for nuts, so this was an obvious choice. The filling was good, but the toppings make this great. It was real Nutella, not a cheap copy cat. The roasted hazelnuts were a nice touch! A simple dessert with an excellent blend of flavors.
7) The Pistachio Ricotta cake had sponge cake, pistachio cream, and ricotta cream. It was decorated with crushed pistachios on the side and dusted with powdered sugar on top. The pistachio cream had a mild sweetness and pistachio flavor. The ricotta cream had a mild sweetness and milk flavor. All together, the cake was a superb light dessert.
The service was polite, helpful, and quick. Orders are taken at the counter and they call out the name of the product when it's ready. Stay close by because someone could take your order if they ordered the same thing. The dining room and restrooms were very clean. They have a women's restroom and a men's restroom. No unisex restroom. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. There's an Instagram area at the back of the shop. There are 16 seats and 4 couches/benches. No outdoor seating. Parking was difficult to find in this part of Old Town. We found metered parking 3 blocks away. This shop is a family business that sells quality products at a fair price. I recommend a visit, and try the lockmas!
