I really really really wanted to like this place! It had been on my list for quite some time and I was truly excited to visit, but after my visit, I will not be returning.
My mother and I arrived on a Friday afternoon for an early lunch. When we first walk into the restaurant, there is no host to seat you and no sign that says to wait to be seated. There was 1 couple seated at a table, the rest of the restaurant was empty. I see a waiter all the way at the back of the restaurant with his back turned towards the entrance. I try to make a little noise so he notices me, jiggle my keys a little, ask if we can sit anywhere, I get no response or acknowledgment. I walk half way into the restaurant, and ask again, do we sit anywhere? He finally turns around, seemingly bothered by my question and that I was half way into the empty restaurant. He tells me I can sit anywhere along the booths on the right. So we sit down.
There's 1 menu on the table, no other menus are offered even though there's 2 of us. We had to share the menu.
He goes back to the back of the restaurant and doesn't return for some time.
I order a Chicha Morada, Inca Kola, and 2 Leches de Tigre. He asks how spicy do we want it, my mom asks for just a little spicy, I say I don't want any spiciness. He agreed and said he'd bring aji (chile) on the side just in case.
He returns with our drinks. The Chicha Morada is bitter, at first I thought it was because I had brushed my teeth before I left the house and it was causing a weird flavor reaction. I didn't pay too much attention to it.
He brings the Leche de Tigre's, I was thoroughly excited because I love ceviche and leche de Tigre.
I take a small bite of the fish, it's also bitter and I start choking from how spicy it is. I drink some of my drink so I can try again, and again I choke. It's just way too spicy. I told my mom that it's too spicy and that it's bitter because I had brushed my teeth earlier. She tells me that it's completely bitter and overly spicy and it has nothing to do with brushing my teeth. I call the waiter back and tell him that's it way too spicy, that I had requested no spicy. He goes on to tell me that that level of spiciness is the house norm. So why did he ask me if I wanted it spicy or not?! He said he'd take it back and ask for it to be made with no aji. When he returns, it was still spicy but I just took a few bites anyways.
I also ordered a Jalea, which was the only thing we ate, but it was mediocre and nothing special.
My mom also left the leche de Tigre practically intact.
It was bitter, too spicy, and the fish was chopped up so small, it was far from a ceviche/leche de Tigre. I'm afraid their version of Ceviche Leche de Tigre has missed the mark. Their limes are clearly not ripe enough for any food and shouldn't be used and the levels of spiciness need to be reviewed.
I won't be returning.
