"Liman is a great place in Sheepshead Bay to celebrate a special occasion, entertain out-of-towners, or just escape from city life. The food is Turkish, with a heavy emphasis on seafood, and the energy here is best described as elegant seaside kitsch. Start with an order of cacik, a garlicky yogurt dip with cucumbers and lots of dill, and the ezme salad - you’ll want to eat the salad and dip with everything. Get the pan-fried fresh anchovies when they’re in season, served in crisp golden slabs alongside a pile of lightly dressed red onion. I also really like Liman’s calamari, which is fried in a tempura-like batter and comes with a creamy dipping sauce, a pleasant diversion from the marinara you’ll find at the Italian spots in the neighborhood. Those who don’t love seafood will still find plenty to eat here, including a kebab platter where the real star is the rice pilaf. Come early and try to snag an outdoor table overlooking the water, and call ahead if you’re coming with a big party. photo credit: Carina Finn Food Rundown Turkish Ezme Spread This should be the first thing you order, since you’ll want to put it on everything else. It’s a diced salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions with walnuts and olive oil. Pan-Fried Fresh Anchovies This dish is only available when fresh anchovies are in season, and you should get it if you see it. The serving size is generous, and the anchovies don’t need anything more than a squeeze of lemon. Whole or Filleted Fish Liman is perched over the actual Sheepshead Bay, so it’s no surprise that fresh fish is the highlight of the menu. You can get any of the fish on offer served whole or filleted, prepared however you’d like it. Whole and grilled is always a solid choice." - Carina Finn

Service was exceptional and so nice! I would recommend making a reservation. The atmosphere was lovely as well. The presentation of the food was great. We got the braised aubergine, the lamb chops and the lamb shank. Everything was yummy. The lamb chops could have been slightly more tender, the lamb shank could be slightly more salty. The meal came with bread. Lovely place and would come back :) aubergine was yummy!

This restaurant offers a delightful culinary experience, with a few standout dishes worth highlighting. The Beef Vine Leaves, as a starter, are a must-try. They are flavourful and beautifully prepared. The Lamb Chops were cooked to perfection, juicy, and packed with flavour, making them the highlight of the meal. However, the experience wasn’t without flaws. The baklava with pistachios was a letdown, lacking the freshness one would expect. The ambience could also be improved, as the bright white ceiling lights detract from the authentic atmosphere the restaurant aims to create. Service was a bit slow, likely due to a large group dining at the time, but it didn’t overshadow the overall meal. I’d definitely return to explore more of the menu, as the quality of the main dishes shows great promise.

This is probably an influence for my experience 6 years ago when I often went to eat while working in the area. Although prices have increased for the same food the chicken seeker is currently around 20£, the service, rice and salad remain excellent. However, i must recognise that the chicken recipe although tender has changed towards more spicy losing some of the punchy flavour that i was really passionate to try again. Definitely, it's still a great place to lunch once in a while but hope the chicken flavour comes back to once it used to be and perhaps a bit more salad to enjoy the sauce a bit more.

We had a lovely family dinner at Liman. The food was excellent. The lamb shank and the moussaka are truly their signature dishes. Elle, the hostess was kind enough to recommend them and really took care of me and my family. Will definitely dine here again. The experience was wonderful.

Wow, what exceptional food, it’s our new favourite place in Islington. My only complaint was we couldn’t tip by card, next time we’ll bring some cash.

Google
Wow! as we enjoyed our meal, we reminisced about how dramatically the food scene has changed in London the past 40 years. This is an incredible restaurant that delivers incredibly tasty Turkish food. If you are a lamb lover, this is the place to go and they know how not to overcook their chops and skewers. The cold meze were also excellent and our server Anil was amazing.

My firend and I shared the Chicken Skewer and Mixed Grill dishes. What feast. We certainly did not leave hungry. All the grilled items were tasty, tender and cooked to perfection. The salad and the salad dressing were fresh and flavoursome and it was a nice change to have a side of mixed vegatables that weren't drowning olive oil. Definitely recommend Liman.

Yelp
Had lunch at Liman this past Friday...here are my thoughts: Ambiance is nice. The restaurant was quiet on a Friday afternoon. Service is oddly unfriendly and our attempts at conversation left us looking really awkward. Food is overall delicious! I highly recommend the cauliflower and the roasted potatoes. My husband had the chicken and said it was fine but nothing special. I was surprised that no bread was offered to start (love Turkish bread). Prices are fine, maybe a bit high for the quantity. Not sure we'd return since it's kind of out of our way...but if we do I'll definitely get the cauliflower again!

Yelp
They were very accommodating considering we didn't have a reservation. The food was delicious and service was excellent.

Yelp
The exterior as well as the interior is great, it's clean, cozy and elegant. A nice mix of modern and authentic. The waitress who took our order is the only reason this place does not receive a 5-star review. She was, by far, the rudest waitress I have come across for a long time. There were five other tables to serve at most, and she rushed our order. So much in fact, that she had to yell out 'next!' after every single person's order. Bear in mind, we are frequently out, and I'd argue we are not hard to deal with in any sense. I was not handed a drinks menu, and when she was about to take my order, she simply asked 'red or white', but I was not having any wine (and I'm not sure why she thought so). When I told her I wasn't going to have any wine, she returned to take my drinks order once everyone else at my table had received my drinks. It was a long wait. The food, however, was excellent. Not a single thing to complain about. Absolutely brilliant.

Yelp
An American in London for work, Liman was the perfect spot for a business dinner of six. The babaganoush was decadently smoky and garnished with bright pomegranate. The lamb was fork tender. The pita crispy and pliable with delicate Turkish spices. Service was prompt and courteous. Ambience was ideal for an informal business dinner; not too loud or quiet nor too dark or bright. Price was right. Portions were perfect. This restaurant is in the Goldilocks Zone. Delicious.

Yelp
Just amazing Turkish food and the most hospitable service! Still thinking about those dips!

Yelp
This place is a gem! I'm visiting from the US and found this close to my hotel. Food is what people would call "Ocak Başı" in Turkiye. Meaning "By the grill". Authentic charcoal grilled lamb chops! Appetizing smell of the charcoal smoke is enough to bring up your appetite. Babaganoush and "Acılı Ezme" (spicy chopped salad) are amazing! Spice levels are high so be prepared. Pair it with a glass of Yakut and you will never be happier :) Cheers!

Yelp
From start to finish this friendly, owner-run restaurant lived up to what I was promised! Six of us ranging from barely-a-teenager to 78 had a variety of hot and cold starters and dinner choices and every one was delicious. The hummus was pleasing to all at the table, the olives were seasoned to complement other flavors well, the spinach-yogurt dip was devoured and the spinach-feta in phyllo was a huge hit. The lamb chops and salmon were generous portions that more than satisfied the ravenous members of the party, as was the Adana lamb shish. The recommendation of the turkish wine was fitting for our meals, and the coffee expert pronounced the Turkish coffee to be a wonderful finish to the day! Oh, don't let me forget the baklava! Scrumptious, with a great balance of honey and nuts... Not one bite was soggy or too sticky.to enjoy. What makes a meal like this better? The great service from *everyone*. This is a Must for anyone visiting or living in London that wants friendly dining done well.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant while on a trip to London. It was one of our favorite places. The staff is super friendly and the food was absolutely wonderful! This will be one of our first stops when we return to London!

Yelp
This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! My wife and I still can't believe how lucky we are that this restaurant opened a mere three minute walk from our flat. The food is magnificent! All of the meat dishes are quality and cooked to absolute perfection! The owners are a lovely Kurdish couple and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. It is such a refreshing change from the many "high-end" restaurants in London that charge an arm and a leg for mediocre food. In terms of food recommendations we have been several times and have yet to have a bad dish. Our favorites are the chicken wings (yes, trust me they are awesome), the lentil soup, the falafels, and any main that has chicken or lamb. This place is both quality and affordable and I would recommend it (and do) to everyone I know!

Yelp
Wonderful little restaurant in Islington with mostly Turkish/ middle eastern dishes, and oddly they had a few Italian pasta dishes as well. The mixed Mezze and minced lamb kebabs in yoghurt were incredible

Yelp

Yelp
Amazing lunch experience for the entire family! Staff was wonderful and made great recommendations. The food was delicious!

Yelp
Amazingly good food, starters are great but the real prize is the Karisik Izgara. Best value in town.

Paul H.

Yelp
Went on a packed Friday evening by myself while on a business trip. The owner fit me in a reservation for a spot 20 minutes later. I came back and was seated right away. The bread and dip was amazing and I ordered the karisik izgara. The adama kebab could use more salt but everything was cooked to perfection. With a visit!

Yelp
Wonderful meal with family and friends. Group of 10. Great food. Everyone was impressed. All winners and no losers.

Yelp
We got the fixed price 3-course meal "Liman Set 1". It was truly excellent -- 7 small plate appetizers (spreads and bread), a mixed grill of chicken/lamb and beef and baklava with mint tea. Great, great service.

Yelp
This restaurant is truly a hidden gem, most definitely deserving of 5 stars! We decided to come to Liman despite some of the reviews from fellow Yelpers. When we came upon the restaurant we found it crowded and were lucky to get a table without a reservation! We tried the calamari, falafel, a lamb entree, and an eggplant entree. Each dish came out hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor! For dessert we had the kunefe with Turkish delight ice cream and it was one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had! On top of the amazing food, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service is fantastic. If you are looking for a taste of the Mediterranean, especially Turkish cuisine, make Liman your destination! If we are back in London, we will absolutely visit Liman again!
