My husband and I stayed here with my parents, brother and sister in law and their two young children over Easter weekend. We've stayed at the Viceroy in the past, and due to the location of the Limelight, being so central to Snowmass Village and all of the restaurants and shops, with ski in/out access, we decided to stay here this time.
It's an easy 10 min drive from the Aspen airport to the hotel, and the Hotel provides a free shuttle service to get to the hotel. Super-convenient!
First impressions...the Lobby and downstairs area is comfortable and tastefully appointed. It's optimal for relaxing, meeting other guests, grabbing their free breakfast in the morning, and kicking back apres ski or for dinner, listening to live music every night, or playing shuffleboard. There are many seating areas throughout this area, so it's never challenging to find a spot to sit. There's a bar and a full-service dinner menu, which I might add, is a wonderful menu with things like French Onion Soup, Quinoa Bowls, Vegetarian Chili, Burgers, etc. The food is so good, many guests end-up eating at the hotel every night. The BEST part of this area is their wood fire pizza oven. The pizzas taste straight out of Italy, and you can customize your pizza any way you'd like. They make it right in front of you. Additionally, there are areas of the downstairs where children can congregate and play games. There are even two MAC computers for kids to access. I did find the downstairs area to be very warm at times. You could definitely tell when they turned the heat on.
The rooms were decorated beautifully. I loved the smell when I walked in. Everything smells fresh and new. Housekeeping was consistent and the service teams were very friendly. I did, however, find the walls to be very thin, and it was easy to hear the baby crying in the room next door. I have a high bar, and some of these suggestions may seem nit-picky to some, but for me, these are table-stakes in a high-end hotel such as the Limelight, and so I am suggesting as areas for improvement:
1) Provide Q-tips + cotton balls in the bathroom
2) Upgrade toilet seats to "soft close" lids. Getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and having the seat cover smack down hard every time is annoying, and this is such a SIMPLE (low-cost) fix! Even my brother mentioned it....so I hope someone reads this and makes the change!
3) Shampoo/Conditioner was a disappointment. Regretfully, I forgot my shampoo, and had to use the hotels. The Shampoo was a gel consistency and not high-quality. It made my hair very dry. Even my husband commented on the difference once we borrowed my mom's shampoo.
4) Mattress was not comfortable in my opinion. My husband complained as well. It was very squishy and not the least-bit firm. Also the pillows on the bed are far too small. For a king bed, the pillows were mini sized pillows.
If you want to go to Aspen, the hotel offers the ability to "borrow" an Audi for a couple hours and drive yourself there, or they offer a car service for $100. Aspen is only a 20 min drive, so it's super-convenient. You can also get a lyft or uber, which they say is challenging, but we had no problem at all. I found the staff overall to be EXCELLENT and super-hospitable. We especially loved the driver who picked us up from the Airport (sandy blond hair - younger guy) and TOM, the Breakfast Manager, was so gracious, kind, thoughtful and sweet! He made every morning a wonderful experience. He even took wonderful photos of our entire family, sitting by the fireplace. They turned out so great and are being framed for sure!
Every night we went in the hot tubs....which are huge and outside. It's fun to mix and mingle with guests and share a cocktail outside. They provide fresh unlimited towels outside the spa area, and slippers and robes in the guest rooms, so you can wear them down to the spa. The hotel will also store your skis and dry out your boots for you overnight, if you want them to. My one complaint would be the service outside by the hot tub - it's not very fast or easy to get food or more drinks while out there, even though there's a QR code you can scan to get a menu and order. It was more hassle than just going back to the bar.
My one last recommendation (or thing I was surprised about) was the fact that the hotel does not sell bottled water. They do put fresh water (they bottle filtered water themselves) and replenish it daily - putting two fresh bottles in the fridge in your room. And, you can get more by going to the front desk anytime. The water quality they provide is excellent (and I am very picky about my water)....so no complaints there. I just found it odd that we could not buy a bottle if we wanted to...But as long as we had access to water, I guess that's what matters! :) If it's about conservation, I totally get it! :)
We would definitely stay at the Limelight again! It was a really fun memorable experience!
