Limones tries hard to position itself as an upscale dining spot, but our meal felt more like a novice chef’s attempt at fancy cuisine after watching a single YouTube tutorial. From mismatched flavors to a serious kitchen error, the whole evening was underwhelming and frustrating.
Here’s a breakdown of what went wrong:
• Mackerel Ceviche: This was a complete miss – mushy, overly fishy, and just unpleasant. Mackerel is notoriously pungent, so why choose it for a ceviche? Topping it with guacamole felt random and clashed entirely, turning what could have been refreshing into a confusing mess.
• Beet Appetizer: The beets themselves were fine, but the dish as a whole lacked any real depth or excitement. The ricotta on the side was bland and forgettable, and the dressing had an unexpected anise or licorice note that didn’t belong. A small dollop of red spicy sauce seemed like a last-minute fix to add some flavor, but it couldn’t save the plate.
• Lobster Nachos: These were utterly unremarkable and forgettable. Basic chips topped with scattered lobster claw pieces and some generic melted cheese that added zero excitement. The whole thing felt unflavorful, incomplete, and haphazardly thrown together, like an afterthought rather than a thoughtful appetizer. So bland that there’s really nothing else to say.
• Sea Bass: This one was almost comical in its randomness. The fish came with Indian-style mango chutney, Mexican refried black beans, and a bed of sautéed greens – it was like the chef blindfolded themselves and picked ingredients from a global dartboard. The flavors didn’t harmonize at all, making the dish feel disjointed and amateurish.
• Burger: This could have been a solid option, but it arrived with bacon despite our explicit request to omit it. Our waiter, Ray, even showed us the ticket where “no bacon” was clearly noted in bright red–yet the kitchen ignored it. What if this had been an allergy instead of a religious preference? It’s a dangerous oversight.
The manager did stop by to apologize, but it was mumbled and awkward before he quickly retreated. They removed the burger from the bill and comped a dessert, which was something, but given the severity of the mistake, I expected more–perhaps comping the entire meal.
Overall, Limones falls short on both execution and accountability. Skip it and save your evening for a place that delivers.
