20 Denver Restaurants That Have Stood the Test of Time | Eater Denver

"In 1999, this cozy little slice of Cajun country opened in Platt Park to dish up crawfish tails and hush puppies, alligator po’boys and catfish platters, gumbo and jambalaya alongside legit Hurricanes and bottles of Abita Amber — and it all comes with a juicy side of the blues thanks to a live music lineup." - Ruth Tobias

Google
The gumbo was pretty good, and I liked the poboy a lot. The king cake daiquiri was my favorite cocktail that I had and thought it was a fun idea.

Google
Awesome food! Popped in with my kids after a day at Elitch. Haven’t been to Lincoln’s in 6 or 7 years and it was still as great as it was back then. Crawfish were fresh and seasoned perfectly. Great service as well. Definitely won’t wait so long between visits.

Google
This is a great little bar and a super fun venue for music and dancing! We saw Randall Dubis’ blues band, who were really fantastic and really nice people as well! Very interesting mix of folks - it looked like a lot of them are regulars. Overall, a very fun place and highly recommended, especially if you are looking for some great blues music!

Micheala Sharp

Google
Amazing food and decent prices. Loved the hush puppies, fried catfish po' boy, and bread pudding. The full sandwich is really big. Be prepared for a very loud atmosphere if you go on a Friday or Saturday night when they have live music.

Google
We stopped by after a birthday celebration for a drink. I was very happy to see they had gluten free cider by Schilling! I loved the live music, so much fun

Google
We had a blast in this bar when we were visiting Denver. Awesome blues band and atmosphere on Friday night. Our waitress was sweet but I think she was overwhelmed attending all the tables, and she forgot our food. We waited for more than an hour. At least was a good wait thanks to the music and the fact that we weren’t super hungry. The Gumbo soup was tasty, but the salad was whatever. Even though we had a great time with the music and the happy crowd dancing, super good vibes, we will come back for that.

Google
Open under this name/style since the mid 90s, Lincoln’s is an absolute staple of a neighborhood bar for me. It’s classic in the all the right ways, and modern where it counts. Always a clean space. Truly unique and good food options, and even though it’s a solid restaurant, it’s always the roadhouse bar, to me. Say hi to Jim Bob for me.

Google
Great spot for love music and some white people dancing. Good vibes, but the service is slow as they are under staffed like many places that are independently owned. The food was also good: Catfish was delicious , meatloaf burger was yummy but the French fries were bad and soggy, and it felt like they were heated in the microwave. The staff was super friendly and just overworked

Yelp
Great dive with some pretty good Cajun food to match the vibe. My fiancé and I were spending a month doing a home exchange in Platt Park and needed some dive energy. We decided to check out Lincoln's for some music and food and we weren't disappointed. It has a NOLA vibe without being campy. Music was fun and loud, the crowd was very nice and the food and drinks were great! I'd come back for just food and drinks too.

Yelp
Lincoln's Roadhouse is one of the coolest spots in Denver. Come for the live music, stay for the food! You'll find a dive bar atmosphere in the Wash Park neighborhood complete with friendly service and owners who really love what they do. I had the crawfish etouffee which blew me away. With the serrano gator sauce, it's one of the best bites in Denver. We also tried the blackened crawfish po boy which was flavorful with the right amount of heat. The gumbo was also amazing with a perfect smokiness to it. You have to check out Lincoln's!

Yelp
I just arrived a little while ago for the first time, and so far it's been really nice!! The atmosphere is comfortable and laid back. There was a family with older kids across from me having dinner. And the owner Jimmy, made me a hurricane and WOW!!!! I've never had a hurricane before. Their drinks certainly are "Not" made cheap and watered down!! For is great!! I would definitely recommend the Lincoln Roadhouse!!! Oh!!! And the service is well beyond Excellent too!!
google avatar

Phil M.

Yelp
Great food, great service. The place to go for the Denver blues scene!! Parking can be rough when the bands are there. Come early and have a meal before the music.

Yelp
Ordered: -Cajun Popcorn -Blackened Shrimp Po'boy -Gumbo -Hurricane Mimosa -Cherry Mule Pro: -Cajun Popcorn was tender, fried very well so that the crawfish was crunchy and juicy!! Dipping sauce was -Star of the show was the blackened shrimp!! It had a kick that had so many flavors and a good level of spice -They don't skimp on the liquor in your drink!! -We were pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant half full at 3pm on a Saturday which was already a really good sign that wr came to the right place!! -Staff is very welcoming and friendly and explained the menu very well -Clean inside and not too loud (at 3pm) -They have a pool table!!! Con: -I personally wish happy hour started earlier (starts at 4pm) We WILL be back!!!

Meg A.

Yelp
We loved the live music (Michael Hornbuckle is a favorite!) but the food was just "meh." I certainly wouldn't go there just for the food. Service was very good considering there was a big crowd.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday after following Lincoln's on IG and it was an awesome experience! They have live music every Friday and Saturday- the band playing was fun and the place was packed. Order the Cajun Popcorn, Meatloaf Cheeseburger and Blackened Shrimp Bowl. Everything was packed with flavor. The meatloaf cheeseburger was super tender and tasty. Sam was the bartender and he was very attentive and nice. Stop by this local place and order everything on the menu!

Yelp
I have known biker Jim for years. I usually go here for the music and the drinks. Dive bar setting, super cool vibe, and I love the staff. Yesterday I got the Potroast burrito. It is pure heaven! Like how did I not know about this sooner!
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
Came here for a celebration of life! Thee Doyle Pinkham, well missed brother. The food! Cajun excellence. You can tell they respect the lane they are in. Much love given to the food. Jambalaya Gumbo I'd pick this dive bar again

Yelp
If you haven't checked out Lincoln's roadhouse yet, you must! It's a local Denver institution right off I-25 and Pearl, and they've got some of my favorite Cajun food in town, with that friendly service and dive bar feel that makes you feel right at home. Try the chicken & andouille gumbo, blackened shrimp po' boy, and crawfish etouffee to start! (All 3 are shown, except I had the po' boy as a gluten-free bowl instead and added sausage.) All 3 are packed with flavor, and that po' boy has some heat, too! Po'boy options also include catfish, chicken, crawfish, gator, oyster, fried mushroom, fried pickle, and impossible chicken -- so plenty of vegetarian options too! Next on my to-try list here are some comfort food favorites that have apparently been on the menu for 20+ years: the meatloaf cheeseburger and the pot roast burrito. They also do trivia nights on Tuesdays and have live music Friday and Saturday nights!

Yelp
After reading some of these reviews I don't understand the bad services ones. I have been to this place numerous times and I have never had anything short of great service. We have been there for a nice Saturday lunch, Football Sundays and Friday nights when the place is packed with a band. Every time, great service. Between great servers and bartenders we have never had a problem. Often the owner, Jim, will stop by and check on us as well. I have never had an empty drink before being offered another round. The food is also awesome. I find myself craving their gumbo. Yesterday I woke up wanting their gumbo, so we stopped by for lunch. Again, great service and great food. They have a burger of the week that changes weekly and proceeds from that burger go towards their charity of the month. I love when companies do such things. Always care for your local community. Lincoln's has had a rough time these past couple of years and I am glad to see that they are still able to keep up the burger special. That being said, I love this place!

Yelp
The hubs and I met up with a friend for an early dinner and catch up at Lincoln's Roadhouse. By early, I mean 5 so we pretty much had the pick of the place minus a large party in the pool area that was happening later that night. First and foremost, the customer service was just awesome. Our server was so nice, so on top of it and really made for a pleasant evening. The hubs and I both opted for the banana rum old fashioned. It was a perfect representation of the menu description. We moved into apps with fried mushrooms and hush puppies. The hush puppies were small which was wonderful so you didn't get a big doughy ball like some hush puppies can be. Both were packed full of flavor and a great start to the dinner. Both the hubs and I did a half blackened chicken po'boy. They came with house made potato chips which the whole thing was again, really well done. Our friend got the gumbo and I tried a little bite and it was legit. Last, the three of us shared a bread pudding. I don't normally love bread pudding but this would make me a convert any day. I absolutely would come back to keep working my way through the menu.

Yelp
Good ambiance and excellent service. Solid cajun seafood offering and generous portions. Clearly a local hangout but gentrifying, doesn't take away from the appeal. Will go back soon.

Benjamin L.

Yelp
Blues cafe in south denver. With home made cajun food and free entry to live blues music. Heck ya I got fried catfish platter with red beans and rice and husbpuppies. My gf got the fried pickle burger. Great service. Portions are huge. Prices are affordable. Band is lit. Has a pool table. And good beer and ambience. Awesome weekend date night in denver

Cynthia M.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Honey with hot sauce? Damn! The catfish was the best I've had in Denver. The server was working the bar and the whole restaurant and still gave us excellent service. We can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is phenomenal. Cant wait to go back. Catfish basket is so good. This will become one of those places I have to stop in if I'm south of Empower Field.

Annette A.

Yelp
Service bad news order food waitress brought it out with out e napkin, no condiments. Food Looks bad and cold Fries. Not very busy so no sure whst the problem is people around getting service but not us. I would not come back! I been coming here for a long time can't believe this!

Sarah M.

Yelp
Best neighborhood bar with great food and great music. I love the open mic night on Wednesdays. Especially "YKNOT" PRICELESS!

Mark S.

Yelp
Great multi-blend burgers. Must try the Cajun Popcorn. Lincoln Roadhose knows how to put flavor in their food.
google avatar

Kathryn W.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Busy on a Friday night but the live music, and people dancing keeps it fun and makes it easy to wait for a table. Once seated our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed even though there were lots of people and tables. I'm a burger fanatic and could not help but try the meatloaf burger. It was a revelation for me and I would go back solely for that burger. The best part is that the music and crowd are even more motivation

Elise C.

Yelp
Best Gumbo and Po Boy I've ever had. Love the atmosphere, love the owner, love the bartenders.
google avatar

Shin M.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening. It has a pool table, a live band, and a small area for dancing. There were a ton of tables for drinking and dining. The crowd seemed like it was 40-60 year olds. Cute place for that age group.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Great people, great service, and it also has the best wings in Denver. I'll be coming back sooner than later.

Lyssa V.

Yelp
First time experience coming into this spot . My son an law brought us in hypin up saying food was bomb. My son-in-law proceeds to just say hi to a worker name Mark . Mark proceeds to walk up and points his finger to my son-in-law saying you will be helped in a second after I help the 19 people that walked it before you mind you he was just trying to tell him hi . Worst customer service I've experienced in a while thank you Mark we will no longer want to try the Cajun food..

Yelp
I went to order some creole dishes and there were several problems. First, the menu on Yelp is completely wrong. Half of what I wanted to order was no longer available. I ended up getting the fried catfish and shrimp baskets to-go. Finding the restaurant wasn't too hard. I didn't expect an 80's style dive bar. I didn't have to wait too long to pick up the food. The prices were not too high. However, the food was not very good. The catfish was too salty and just overall not very good. The rice and beans were good. The shrimp basket came with fries that were really soggy. The shrimp were ok, there are only 8 of them if you are wondering how filling that dish would be. When we got hime, We baked the dishes at 400 degrees according to the instructions but it didn't help. The hush puppies were ok, as in edible, but not something I would recommend. If they had more non-meat items from their menu I would have ordered more variety and maybe something would have been better. Overall, if you are going to a bar to listen to 80's and 90's music and eat some bar food, this is an ok place. If you are looking for creole food, like we were, this is not the place.

Yelp
Lincoln's is great dive bar! It should be a landmark and has an amazing history! My mom even had great times here when it was the old Crimson and Gold 3/2 bar back in the day. Lincoln's has managed to keep up it's dive bar credential by serving amazingly fantastic bar food, and legit drinks at reasonable prices. What makes it perfect? Add in the live entertainment with Wed. Open Mic with Jon S. and a variety of weekend blues acts. Super amazing talent rocks this joint! If you need a break you can even hit the pool table in the back. My favorite dish is the Pot Roast Burrito and Chili Cheese Fries (See pictures) I also like Mama's Meatloaf. I think it's still on the menu. If you want to get your southern food on, people rave about the gumbo. The customers here differ from business types, to musicians, to students, to Harley D's, and neighbors like me, but the Jameson flows all same. Terry the bartender is amazing. He came from behind the bar to check on my burrito and so did my sweet waitress. My advice pull your truck, car, or hog off I25 and enjoy your pit stop! Catch some live music! I'm pretty sure they post upcoming acts 2 months at a time.

Linda M.

Yelp
Went for a work event. Folks were spending a ton of money here and this guy comes out yelling at our client because he needed to go elsewhere to buy food as a celiac. I mean you could just quietly ask someone to not and speak to them without embarrassing in front of everyone.
google avatar

Marty P.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place since visiting NOLA last month. I had brunch here today and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jim Bob. Nice guy! He was bartending today. I liked how he spoke with me about entrees on the menu, his business and visiting NOLA. I ended up ordering the Pot Roast Burrito and it was fantastic! Their pot roast is slow cooked so the meat is tender. Love the combo of green chili with it! I will definitely order this again! I also ordered a Meatloaf Cheeseburger to go. Can't wait to dig into this meal at home! I love the location of this establishment as well. It's right off I-25, at Pearl Street. If you're looking for quality food, I definitely recommend this place! Can't wait to try their Cajun entrees. I also had an opportunity to try their hot sauces. They feature two; a red (Cajun) and a green (Green Chili). They were both great! Not overpowering nor dull. I imagine they would go well with Jambalaya along with their red beans and rice. Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Elijah F.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! Very impressed from the moment we walked in till we left! The meatloaf sandwich and the catfish platter was at 20/10 I'm definitely going back
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
While visiting from Kansas City, a local merchant recommended this place - so glad they did. One of the best Bread Pudding's I've ever had! Also enjoyed the etouffee and red beans and rice. Both were excellent and generous portions. The band was preparing to play later that night - glad we were finished beforehand as there's nowhere in the dining room to escape the loud music - great if you love the music, not great if you expect to have a conversation.

Yelp
Fantastic place!!! Walked in unexpected as a group of 14 or so and they got us seated and fed. Such a wonderful owner and group of waitstaff. Friendly, helpful, joking around. We had a great time and now the best part the Cajun food was fantastic. We had tots w Cajun seasoning, homemade potato chips w seasoning, fried mushrooms, fried pickles, Cajun sausage, shrimp po' boys, gumbo, grilled shrimp salad. And it was all to die for. Solid bar food AND solid Cajun cooking. What is super impressive to me is when a place that specializes in bar food can pull off a really nice, fresh salad - and they did!! The tomato's melted in my mouth and the grilled shrimp was seasoned to perfection. We also found out they have music on the weekends - we will be back for that for sure!!! All sorts of beer options to chose from, full drink menu. And the Cajun Bloody Mary was spectacular! I highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Robin B.

Yelp
Met up with a bunch of friends to hear some rip roaring music by a local band and the place was packed. I mean we're talking sardines here. Parking wasn't too bad, found street parking two blocks out. The service was a bit slow, so going up to the bar was faster than waiting to get the attention of the wait staff. We did order some food and I mean how can you go wrong with anyplace that serves hush puppies. I'd go back just for them. I really couldn't judge much about the place since it was so crowded. Will definitely go back on a more subdued evening. Way to bring it, LR!
google avatar

Felicia L.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! It brought me right back home to Louisiana! The service was great! Jim the owner was awesome! Loved getting to know more about their establishment ! I was so excited to meet the chef, Kelly! You can tell she really cares to serve great quality food and you can taste that in every bite! I cannot wait to go back for more and teleport right back home again! It's so refreshing to walk into a place that truly cares about their consumers experience and the place as a whole!

Yelp
On a Friday afternoon at about 12:55hrs ish, my friend and I went here coz we are in the Neighborhood. There are plenty to choose in their Menu. I opt to order the half blackened Shrimp Po Boy ($5.95). My Main Entrée comes with Chips. We shared the Cajun Wings ($7.50) and Fried Mushroom ($5.95). Everything came out hot from the fryer. That is goods in our books. All in all, everything is doable. Though I cannot deny my friend rate her food order as 4 stars. Coz she is into Chicken Wings and Fried Mushrooms, err as in this case who can say NO to EVERYTHING FRIED. Personally for me its 3 stars at best. Nothing stood out. Just another establishment that offer, chicken wings, fried mushrooms and same old same old items that I can find across Denver Metro area. Left Lincoln's Roadhouse at about 14:10hrs ish

Mary S.

Yelp
This used to be the BEST BAR and place to dance in Denver. The live music was awesome. The crowd was amazing. But then, it tanked! The owners fired all the best workers. They alienated all the regulars and now.....why would anyone go there? They still have some good bands but not often. All the best bands that made Lincoln's what is was Don't want to play here. So so sad.

Wendy D.

Yelp
Service is absolutely horrible! Waited for 45 min to order 1 drink waited another 45 min to order food, which was sub par and that's being nice. The drinks taste like turpentine we couldn't drink them.
google avatar

Cayla T.

Yelp
We saw this place driving by and decided we wanted to drop in and try it sometime. When we came in no one was there but one person at the bar so we got a little nervous. Turns out, it was 100% worth it, the fried mushrooms were probably some of the best I've ever had. I got the jambalaya and my bf got the daily special chili cheese burger, which were also both really good . We want to come again and try the alligator because they were unfortunately out and maybe come when they are having their live music!
google avatar

Richard F.

Yelp
Came in to use the place as a backdrop for a film (great atmosphere here), and found some of the best food around. The gumbo is mind-blowing. Try the fried pickles. And go for one of the burgers. Everything is good; you won't be disappointed with any of your choices. If you want a real treat, go for the bread pudding. I'm a snob about it and they do it better than anyone else.

Honest M.

Yelp
What a fun joint - White Guys trying to sing the blues and of course that never works - but fantastic drinks and a great vibe

Kaz T.

Yelp
I was at this place at about noon because I had one of my buddies having lunch here that actually recommended the place to me I've been here a few times before have tried a few things however today" I tried the burger OMG!!!! All I can say is the burger! Must have been made by "Jesus" himself with the consistency of a microwaved moon pie and this is funny because I'm in the bar business as well food service and I have to give it to this place when it comes to that food they know what they're doing not only is the person that I assume is the owner extremely cool very kind, the bartender is on point very well established bar they definitely have the formula...
google avatar

Jodi R.

Yelp
This place has really gone down hill. Used to be a fun spot with great food. Went today and what a disappointment. Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes for our food (which finally came as we were leaving). Only 2 other tables so the excessive wait made no sense. We asked about our order and the server, Angela, was more interested in arguing than checking on our order. Finally left. And will never go back. No wonder the place was empty on a Saturday afternoon

Chris V.

Yelp
Went for lunch so I can't vouch for their live music, but the étouffée was delicious. If you made your expectations from the decor, you'd expect a grease burger. It's a dive for sure but in a good way. The food is not dicey at all and is pretty surprising how good it is. Maybe Cajun food should be served in a dive!
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Excellent live music with an eclectic group, from bikers to students. Good food, better drinks. Service is impeccable.

Linnabah S.

Yelp
Tonight was a bad experience. I would not have even left this review had the person I called to tell about how bad some of the food was was so indifferent. The fries were overly salty, so salty that no matter how much ketchup I drenched on them, they could not become tolerable; and they skimped on the fries which made the experience even worse. When I called that was when they mentioned they ran out of fries(they could have told us beforehand, like when we picked up the food). They substituted the fries with tater tots for the chili cheese fries, and the spice on them was not what I had experienced before. A subpar experience overall on our main meal. It completely overshadowed the meatloaf burger. I would have left two stars, but the bread pudding was awesome. I'm hoping this was a one-off considering all the positive reviews this place has received.

Yelp
I am posting every where, one of my favorite restaurants Lincoln Roadhouse Wow ! Went in on Friday contracted one of the worst food poisoning, I have ever and god knows ,I can't say when. It got so bad after leaving that place,it went on for three days, and in the beginning, not to be graphic it destroyed some.of.my clothing I wore that night! Look I do not go to these restaurants to get a colonic cleanse, nor do I pay for such things! Yet with only eating one meal a day, that place being my one meal, this poisioning was that extreme in what it did and it felt like someone had placed something in my food. This was unacceptable and disgusting. I once had mild symptoms years ago with this place, but this was something different on a entirely new darker scale! I will not patronize this place ever again. This was the kind that could had killed me or others.! This was unacceptable and not worthy of participation or recommendation! I hope no one gets this same issues, this was a very bad thing! The best to who ever goes in there. Good luck!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
I guarantee you have driven by this place a dozen times and have never seen it. It has a rough look to it from the outside but it's one of the best dive bars around. They have fantastic food, wonderful owners, and great drinks. There are pool tables in the back that allow for large groups and the local band scene here it great. Parking could be a little better since there is only street parking and alot of the residents that live near by take up the street but it's worth a few block walk to get some crawfish and fired pickles!
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
I've been there twice in the last two months. Both times the service and the food was very good. I suggest everything on the menu. My son said the wings were the best ever. Gumbo best in Denver.

Ella F.

Yelp
The food is so good but the staff is so rude. Unfortunately, the security guard was extremely rude to my friends and I. The security guard ruined my night as he was extremely impolite and disrespectful. He went out of his way to insult us throughout the night. The waitresses continuously cursed at the patrons to move. The establishment has potential to be great but the staff needs to be improved in terms of hospitality.

Yelp
My husband and I pop into Lincoln's every time we are in town; we love this place. Food's great, service is always fantastic, music is top notch. So glad you guys hung in there with all the COVID bs! Until next time.......
