The Best Wineries in Oregon's Willamette Valley - AFAR

"Founded in 2012 by master sommelier Larry Stone and attorney David Honig, this Eola-Amity Hills project is based at the 66-acre LSV Vineyard and brought on Thomas Savre and consultant Dominique Lafon to craft its wines. Hospitality is stylishly staged via a tent outpost—part winetasting, part glamping—with communal tastings offered daily by reservation. Notable releases include an Estate pinot noir that is lithe yet structured with a stony, medicinal character, and chardonnays such as the Bunker Hill bottling with tactile, chalky orchard fruit and a briny lift reminiscent of white Burgundy." - Bryce Wiatrak

New beautiful tasting room and outside bathroom all clean and again new. One building so it’s quite small. We didn’t do a tasting, but they let us taste before purchasing. Believe there is very little food options here although we didn’t ask. The person helping us was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to.

If I could rate with 5 more stars, I would. I work in the Oregon Wine Industry and have visited numerous wineries and tasting rooms in the state. And I must say: my recent visit to Lingua Franca was one of the best and most memorable to date. The wines are excellent and thoughtfully crafted; they speak for themselves. But the lingering impression left on me and my family was the outstanding hospitality shown to us. Both Jamie and Daniel took incredible care of us while there. Jamie warmly greeted us in the parking lot with sparkling wine and promptly took us on a brief tour of the winery and orientation of the vineyards. We were soon joined by Cedar, one of the sweetest winery dogs ever, and she accompanied us throughout our visit! So sweet. Jamie was incredibly patient with our many questions and gave us all a better understanding of what is Lingua Franca: she is a font of information. She led us to our table nestled in between barrels and concrete fermentation tanks with lights strung overhead. (Lingua Franca does not have a formal tasting room, but what they've done to create a pleasant experience in their space is remarkable!) From there, the very gracious and knowledgeable Daniel took over and guided us through one of the most memorable tastings I've ever experienced in the Willamette Valley. His enthusiasm for the wines, the place, and the valley are contagious. The family loved him! We ordered a delicious charcuterie board that was so elegantly presented, we didn't want to touch it! (The sourdough crackers!!!) We took some of our favorite wines home and talked about the experience the rest of the day. But the thing that left the biggest impression on us all was that Daniel walked us out to our vehicle upon departing the winery. We couldn't believe it. He took the time to make sure we were taken care of all the way to the parking lot. Incredible... like a beloved family member or friend walking you out to the driveway to your car after a lovely dinner party. From the very moment we arrived to the very moment we departed, we were truly in their care. Absolutely incredible. In my experience, it's not so common to find a winery where the hospitality reflects the same level of care, attention to detail, and execution exhibited in the wines -- dare I say, a model! Congratulations to Larry, Dominique, Thomas, Jamie, Daniel, George and the entire team at Lingua Franca!! Truly impressive.

Beautiful wine! Love it. Jamie is very knowledgable. She told us about the history of the vineyard and viticulture. Will revisit

Wow, what a great tasting experience! I’ve been to wineries all over the U.S. and around the world and I can confidently say that our tasting experience at Lingua Franca was among the best. Aside from the wines being really good, our host, George, took amazing care of our group and made us feel right at home. His pacing was flawless, and his deep knowledge and ability to talk about the wines and the winery made our time even more enriching. I look forward to visiting again and will not forget the amazing experience George provided our group as I visit other wineries in the future.

Google
George was such a fantastic guide, his German humor and knowledge about wine was excellent. Small facility, more burgundy style wines and we liked some but nothing blew us away. There is quality but more to the French palate than ours.

Had a wonderful tasting experience at a beautiful place. There is some construction going on with plans to make amazing improvements like a garden and new tasting rooms. Had the chance to experience one of the newest and it was lovely. Also, knowledgeable and interesting info about the winery and wines. Thank you!

I had 2 bottles of wine shipped to me and unfortunately they traveled during the ice storm with sub freezing temperatures. William immediately replaced my shipment for free and then followed up to make sure I got them as expected. This is exceptionally great customer service for such an incredible wine that I love!

Google
I had the opportunity to visit Lingua Franca recently and it was a wonderful experience. I had mentioned that I wanted to see the vineyards and the winery and the accommodated me. I was interested in seeing behind the scenes because the restaurant I work at is currently serving Lingua Franca wine and its helpful to describe the where the wine grows and is made. The host for my tasting was Kate. She was great. She pointed out the various vineyards, and spent about an hour with me answering my questions and sharing her thoughts about the wines and knowledge about the winery Of course I'm sure you could do a simple tasting as well and all the wines are excellent examples of the first class wines that can be made in the Willamette Valley.

Yelp
The wines are recognized as among the best in the world. It has a superb location for the estate vineyard and an inspired team of professionals who are committed to what they do. The sales team is knowledgeable about every aspect of production from the vineyard to the finished wine.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at Lingua Franca. Daniel was very knowledgeable about the wines and vineyards. The vertical tasting was very interesting. Getting to see the barrels and production added a unique experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
An incredible, intimate experience. This place was recommended by a friend in the wine business. This place is apparently the cool kids of WV and we couldn't agree more. Kate is literally the best.. super entertaining, knowledgeable, and passionate about all things wine. Every wine we tasted was amazing. We loved the gorgeous setting, attention to detail, and the owner's pup. Can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Beautiful venue set at the edge of the Vineyards. Staff were attentive and deeply knowledgable. Jamie was our Somm for the tasting. Very very good in her role. The wines were wonderful across a variety of micro terrior expressions that were all my favorites - will be back as often as we travel to the willamette valley. The other aspect of this winery worth inquiry when you visit relates to the deep effort to build a regenerative approach that started with the rich heritage of the planting and is maintained wonderfully today. Truly a special place.

Yelp
Cool cool cool. Are you an Oregonian who watched Somm III? And you thought...omg, that's not too far...let's go! Yeah, go!!! Just things to know.... 1) do not buy the "comparitif" tasting. It's $55 for 2 ounces of Burgundian wines. 2 ounces!!!!! We got one each, so $110 for 4 ounces of wine. Not coooool. Don't believe the hype 2) get the regular tasting for $40 each and a $40 cheese plate to share. Then ask to try wines from this Vineyard from the comparitif menu....for free. That's what the table next to us did. 3) very friendly and knowledgeable sommelier!!!! 4) this tasting took place in a well appointed but COLD tent with a poodle running around drooling in my lap and regularly begging for cheese. If that's your thing, cool, if not, now you know

Yelp
I have never been wine tasting in the Willamette Valley before and was recommended Lingua Franca by a friend and I truly can't say enough about this experience! Each tasting is $40 but you get a price tasting inside an adorable yurt with snacks and a host to walk you through your tasting. We were lucky enough to be paired with Andrew and he completely blew our socks off. We walked away truly feeling like wine experts. The wine was delicious and the atmosphere was very peaceful and relaxing. We went to another winery after and it was hard to compare after this winery set the standard so high. Will definitely be recommending this spot to all.

Yelp
This is a startup winery in Willamette Valley started by a master sommelier with a long record of working in the restaurant industry. Mr. Stone's first vintage was 2105 and received rave reviews from Wine Spectator. They have no tasting room at this time. You must schedule an appointment. Wines are light and lean, very Burgundian in style. Staff are friendly and attentive.

Yelp
May be my best wine tasting this year. In a cozy tent on a snowy day, great curated charcuterie, personal touch. Nice selection of Pinot noir and chardonnay from approachable staff, plus a great story and labels from Dale Chihuly. Lingua Franca is a must.

Yelp
I've been wanting to visit Lingua Franca for some time, and finally had the chance to do so during my last visit to the Valley for tasting. I'm so glad we were able to stop by! The experience is excellent and is tailored to the experience your group wants. It can be formal or laid back, which I appreciate. We had such great time in the tent chatting amongst ourselves and the tasting room staff. Everyone we interacted with was so welcoming and accommodating. Thank your such an enjoyable afternoon! I will be back for sure!
