We have stayed in both a room and the Victorian apt. Very comfortable! This place is FABULOUS! The owners Dusty and Steve are amazing. Agree with the other reviewer that it's so nice to have a personal touch, and not a faceless corporation running it. Step back into time and hang out a bit in the well decorated grand rooms before checking out the locale (there is plenty in walking distance). The house and grounds are maintained to perfection! It is a very beautiful peaceful oasis in the midst of the city. And the breakfast was superb.

My Father used to say, "Unmet expectations are premeditated resentments." I have found this to be true in my life. I wasn't sure what to expect at this house. I was very happy about my stay here. From the moment we arrived we were met with warm and welcoming hosts (Dusty and Steve) who made us feel like we belonged there. Like visiting cousins or something. They were both amazing and accommodating hosts. The house itself was wonderfully old and brilliant. None of the rooms are the same. All the small details added up to a very comfortable atmosphere. If you are a craftsman you will find many things to admire. I will definitely be staying here again.

I had to book last minute for a business trip this past week. The owners were very accommodating and Dusty greeted me upon arrival at 1:30AM! The rooms were historic, spacious, beautiful, and filled with character. The breakfasts and snacks were delicious. The workers and visitors were friendly and interesting. The internet and office area functioned better than most modern hotels. I’ve stayed in many Portland hotels and this was the best experience by far! Way to make a business trip memorable.

Lion & the Rose B&B is a recommended place to stay when in Portland. My recent stay of a 7 nights convinced me of the quality experience afforded by Lion & the Rose. The 100+ old Victorian home is among the finest restorations in all of Portland. The location is within walking distance of large and diverse dining choices. The owners live in the home and thus guests feel as if you are actually visiting someone's home, but are afforded privacy, peace and quiet. The breakfast is excellently prepared by their chef and served as the fixed time for all guests to dine together at the same table at the same time, adding to the experience. The beds are comfortable with particular attention given to the quality of the bedding. Parking on the street is manageable, though not reserved. I was always able to find a spot within a block, without too much trouble.

One of a kind Victorian house in historic Portland, Oregon. This is our 4th visit over a ten year time period. Each visit has been memorable and very pleasant. Dusty and Steve have owned and operated and restored this historical home over 27 years. The detail and comfort of each room is remarkable. Each room comes with a bath and lighting and tasteful colors and transport to Victorian days of the wealthy. The whole house is a masterpiece of attention to detail The breakfast is exquisite with grand dishes and excellent food. Dusty and Steve have spared no detail in restoration. The price is steep but each night and day is a Joy to all who appreciate this era of time. Sadly the house is for sale and the owners will be leaving in September 2019. No one knows the future for this piece if history. Experience as you feel called to indulge for the days are limited.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Victorian Apartment. Everything about the experience was amazing. Upon check-in, Dusty took us on a tour of the house, explaining the history of the home, as well as showing us around the place. Dusty also gave us helpful maps of the area, and recommended restaurants and activities in the area. He even went as far as explaining how the street address system works in Portland (you can tell what part of the city an address is in based on the address). As the name of the room implies, our room was not just a bedroom, but it was an apartment that featured a small kitchen and dining area. Everything was immaculate and tastefully prepared. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also beautiful, with plenty of plush towels and bathrobes. The soap was also name brand and spa-quality; definitely the nicest stuff I have gotten in a hotel. There was even lavender scented bubble-bath solution to use in the tub. The complimentary continental breakfast featured breads, fruit, cereals, yogurts, juices, etc. Plenty for a convenient breakfast. We were running late and checked out at 1230, which was no issue at all. Free wifi, free parking, and incredibly friendly hosts made this a memorable and fantastic stay. We will definitely be staying here again every time we go to Portland! 10/10 would recommend!

A beautiful Victorian mansion with excellent service, rooms, and food. The magical atmosphere of the house mixed with delightful service made for a wonderful week. I enjoyed every night in their comfortable and lavish rooms, and every delicious breakfast their chefs had each morning. The owners are very kind people and made sure my visit was spectacular. The best hotel experience I've had the pleasure of enjoying!

Very cozy and welcoming! Steve and Dusty are SUPER friendly and enjoy helping their guests enjoy the visit. Loved the experience and the room (we stayed in the Lovanna). The history of the house and the comfort is relaxing enough to enjoy the entire time...but my husband insisted that we get out and experience the city. There's plenty of shops and food options within walking distance (great ones). Plenty of city transportation available close by if you want to go further (we were able to use a combination of rail cars and buses to go to Multnomah Falls). EXCELLENT experience with a great location! These two were meant to host a Bed and Breakfast...they really recognize how to assist the guest without invading their privacy, perfect! Come here to relax and enjoy!

Yelp
I took a weekend escapade to Portland last week to attend the Vegfest at the convention center and ended up in the Escapade Room. How fitting, yes? This gorgeous property was exquisite. "What it must've been like to live in such elegant charm and hospitality in the early 20th century," was something I'd often ask myself & attempt to visualize. I believe most everything was restored and/or preserved to near original condition; some things perhaps getting a "restomod" spin for modern preferences. One of my favorite things about classic vintage Victorian homes is when they include historical footage of the property and/or past residents/visitors; plenty of which can be lovingly viewed here. Building access has a quirky balance of old & new: front door is an old quirky key lock while back door is keypad code. My Escapade room was delightful. Comfortable quarters and charming. My main complaint would be the shower stall was rather compact. My unexpectedly positive fun experience was actually the most modern gadget in there: Alexa. I have never seen or used her in person until then... I would lie if I said I didn't spend over 15 minutes talking to her (LOL!). The kitchen was amazing. I don't recall where the complimentary juice was but I believe water and fruit were aplenty. Try the water by the sink! It's Kangen (alkalizing, not to be confused with alkaline). Dusty and Steve (I forgot who is who, sorry) were very pleasant and kind gentlemen. One thing that really caught me off guard (and perhaps both of us may have clarified this better early on) was when on the last day I came back late in the evening to just use the computer and get some more water and the gentlemen [with more hair] called out to me in a rather condescending voice, asking things such as "Do you have a place to stay? Are you ok? We don't usually see/let people back in this late." Earlier that morning/afternoon, I asked one of them if I could store my things in the office and come & go, if desired. He said something along the lines of "Yes, that's fine. We want your stay to be as pleasant as possible." I thought, "Perfect!", as the keypad code probably resets only at midnight every night (my guess). An otherwise very pleasant and desirable B&B. Even walking distance to local vegan eateries Blossoming and Capitol (+ karaoke).

Yelp
Owners Dusty & Steve are the gracious owners hosting at their historic, elegant Queen Anne-Craftsman hybrid style bed & breakfast where the interior is decorated in the period of the early 20th century. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. First owner was Gustav Freiwald (fry vault), German American who owned Star Brewery & hotel across the Columbia River in Vancouver. We had the large, charmingly frilly corner room that also included the Queen Anne turret which served as a pleasant observation-sitting room. Downstairs includes a smaller front parlour, larger livingroom, formal dining room where an excellent, very satisfying breakfast is made by Alessandro who hails from Italy, the progenitor of modern European cuisine that taught the French to cook when King François married Caterina di Medici of Firenze. The guests and host mingle tableside in friendly banter. I got new insight of la cucina Italiana talking with Alessandro in the kitchen while he cooked my meal when I came sauntering in at 9:30am which is considered late dining. Because the house is 100%, 100 year old timber, smoking is prohibited in the house, but there is a wrap around porch & back yard garden with a gazebo to smoke tobacco or medicinals. Most of the guest rooms are on the 2nd story with no elevator so be prepared to schlep up your luggage. Kitchen has coffee, tea, juices, soy or almond milk, cereals if a late night munchie hits. Relaxing, welcoming atmosphere. Warm, caring, informative hosts. This is something the standard hotel can not offer. Great way to stay in Portland with a personal touch. PS The bus going to downtown Portland is only a few blocks away so leave the car on the street in front of the Lion & Rose. The Portland Trimet system is pretty efficient. If just arriving & there is no nearby parking, you can temporarily park in front of their drive way to unload. Just call up to give them a heads up beforehand.

Yelp
This was the perfect weekend getaway. We stayed here for our anniversary, visiting from Seattle. The house itself couldn't be more charming. They offer snacks and drinks 24/7, and the breakfast has a pretty good selection of fruits, drinks, yogurts, toast (which changes by the season). We paid an extra 50$ for a special Portland box and enjoyed everything inside. Overall a great experience and I'm excited to try out the other rooms next time!

Yelp
The Lion and the Rose was delightful. Logan & David greeted us when we arrived. We were given the full tour and history of the house. The room & bathroom were immaculate. We were afraid it was going to be cold because it was a old house, but it was nice and warm. You are allowed to roam the house as you please, and they keep a small refrigerator with bottled water, fresh fruit, yogurt and even had a choice of soy & almond milk. They even have a refrigerator for you to keep your leftovers in. Although I did not get a chance to eat breakfast I did have a cup coffee and a banana. I think my favorite part was David. He was so warm and friendly and a lot of history about the house and Portland. Even though it was cold and raining and the ground was covered in snow he walked us a block to my friends car and insisted on carrying our luggage, and even gave us a hug and wished us safe travels. I highly recommend anyone staying at this lovely bed-and-breakfast. A big thank you to Logan and David for making our trip so comfortable.

Yelp
A charming inviting, clean, comfortable B&B. We slept well in a spacious room with a very fine bath and had a lovely breakfast. Conveniently located to an excellent vegetarian restaurant and my personal favorite Petes Coffee & Teas. I will come back!

Yelp
Great Bed, Great Breakfast, Oh My Goodness! What a gimme for a First to Review of some jackpot accommodations, yo! I'm happy to share with my fellow Yelpers, though it may immediately require earlier bookings to get into my fave room. The Lion and the Rose is by far one of the coolest B&B's I've ever stayed in. Psst...at 150 clams, it's a bargain for everything you get. Allow a brotha to break it down: Super-cool, definition of walkable neighborhood - the Irvington Historic District. Great coffee houses, hip cafes, nice shops, diners, eco-veggie joints, Thai, uber-gourmet, wine store with local knowledge and an deep international selection - they got it covered in Irvington Hood. No, you're not quite in LA or New York, but remember, this is just one nabe that's a little bit out of downtown spotlight. Classic house, dig the wrap-around porch and swing. Beautiful rose garden on the side of a 1906 Victorian, refurbished in grand fashion. Ornate, luxurious rooms with INCREDIBLE antique furniture lovingly collected by the previous owners and the warm, hospitable partners/family now happily relocated from the SF Bay Area. Get a tour of their apartment, in the totally styled-out the attic. The yum cookies, well-stocked fridge, collection of papers, mags and books are extremely conducive to feeling gooooood about life. Ya dig?! 6 rooms, each with nice private baths, surprisingly voluminous lighting and special touches - like cutesy soaps in the shape of - you guessed it...a lion and a rose. All the rooms are cool. The wireless and guest PC station (by the parlor and dining room AND the hidden, second staircase are typical bonuses. The two guys who own it, and one brother provide the kindest service. They have at least 12 sets of directions for neighborhood walks and various public tran/driving directions to various parts of the city. As if you had doubt, their restaurant selections were to the satisfaction of this oft-too-snobby, almost-Provincial SF-ian. Singles: The Avandale has a double bed and is the only room with a bath across the hall instead of within, but as a huge corner suite-like set up with a window table, in some ways it's the nicest of all. Tip for the Fellas: Oh yeah, you're into it. You've read this far, buddy, so I'll tip you off that the Joseph Room is my favorite. Red velvet, exquisite desk, a rage of a chaise and curtains like they write about in those Continental tales. Big windows and well-carved bed so tall that there's these wide, little mini-stairs on each side!!!! Oh, and fellas, it's more masculine than some of the rooms on the purple or lace tip. But don't worry, even those are chill...no over-dollied or doilied-up rooms out of the half-dozen. That's your tip, amigo. Book the place for her, but choose the Joseph for you. You'll both be lovin' life and each other. Nice botanicals make for a sweet clean-up and you head down for fresh-squeezed, bottomless quiche, muffins, pastries, fruits and fruity things...served on yet more, antiques. Get into the convo, or just chill quietly. Everyone's so happy at that table, it's always all good. Take your girlfriend, take your boyfriend, take some R & R at the L & R. They do small weddings too...which are some of the proprietors' favorite, and best, stories to share. Nuff said.

Yelp
I love this place forever. It is so beautiful & therapeutic & wonderful. I want to take everyone here! The food is amazing. Everyone is friendly. It's an hour walk from downtown which is not bad. 1/3 of it is crossing the Broadway Bridge which is a blast! Every little detail was thought out in this place. It's just the best.

Gia R.

Yelp
We were on a Pacific coast trip and were staying in Portland for one night so we decided to stay at the Lion and the Rose. We made reservations a month in advance, but when we got there, no one was there. We had to call a number and get a security code to get into the house. Once we got into the house, we did not see another person the entire stay. I feel cheated that we didn't meet the owners who I read so much about. On the bright side, the house is beautiful and the rooms are well decorated and clean. The location is perfect and we walked to dinner, the mall and to the IMAX theater.

Yelp
I loved my stay at this Bed and Breakfast. The dining area has a table of complimentary cookies and pretzels, and you can help yourself to the wide assortment of teas in the kitchen. There is also a printer in the living room if you need to print anything. The Lavonna Room I stayed in was beautiful, spacious, and bright. The bedsheets were amazing and I had a great night's sleep! I did not stay for their breakfast but I would book here again if I had to. The rooms look much better in person than they do on the website! The only negative thing was that it was dusty in the room and my allergies were acting up. It's nice that they offer discounts if you book a room on the day of arrival, opt out of breakfast, and/or if you request light housekeeping for multiple night stays.

Yelp
We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Lion and the Rose. The house is beautiful and immaculately clean. Our room was lovely and very comfortable although the bathroom was a little cramped. The location was convenient to everything. The owners were friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Great historic property. Like traveling back to another era. Wonderfully managed. The Garden room is spectacular, great tub

Yelp
My wife is frequently in Portland on business, and we typically stay in the familiar chains of hotels for the points. However, I wanted a departure from the norm, this time. A decade ago, we stayed in B&B's all the time. It was such a great experience then, and I needed a respite from the rat race. Hoping to reach back and capture some of that experience, and noting the very reasonable rates, we booked a week here at the Lion and the Rose. We were not disappointed. Steve and Dusty are wonderful hosts. As owners of the Lion and Rose, I found them to be very attentive to the property, and very gracious. They, or their staff, were always available, but were never hovering over us. We were always greeted with smiles, and a sense of genuine delight in the their roles as caretakers, and owners of this beautiful period home. I felt as though I had stepped back in time for a short while, and it brought back wonderful memories of my childhood. With temperatures in the 60's during the day, I opened my window, and turned on a fan, stretched out across the bed, and took in the quiet sounds of the surrounding neighborhood, and slept for hours, while my wife was in meetings. (sounds cruel, I know!) The sheets, and the blankets were like those my grandmother would have on her bed, crisp and clean. It felt like I was away from home, but in a familiar place at the same time. That is exactly what I needed. Breakfast was at 8:30 sharp, every morning. Arriving early, we were often entertained by Steve chatting, or arguing with Alexa, "Amazon's digital assistant". Alexa played breakfast music at Steve's request each morning as well. Conversation was always informative, and interesting. We met some wonderful people during our stay. Steve would eat breakfast with us in the mornings, and was there to assist in breakfast conversation, if needed, but once people started talking would blend in or out as a relaxed mood of discourse began. That is a thoughtful host indeed, ever thinking of the experience being had by his guests. As for myself, when it comes to breakfast, I typically have a "Southern Pallet", but I am always eager to try and taste new things, and new combinations. The recipes used for breakfast were not so far from my usual fair that I was put off, but they were rather a mixing of flavors and breakfast favorites that I may not have ever had the opportunity to enjoy otherwise. Steve told us that some of the recipes were original recipes that were passed down through the lineage of the home. That seemed to allow one to connect even more with the grand historical grace, and charm of this special place. Breakfast was always enough to carry me until well after lunch. So, I had plenty of energy to roam, and explore the area, or kick back and relax, or in my case, nap! During our stay, we stayed in two of the rooms, and both were well appointed, and lovingly kept. I can't say that I have a complaint at all, as this is the experience I expected, and more. It isn't the Marriott, or the Hilton, and one shouldn't expect it to be. Expect to feel like you are visiting grandma's and grandpa's 18th Century home in a quiet suburban area of Portland. On a side note, I am a huge fan of the NBC TV series Grimm. I thought I had seen this home before, but couldn't remember where. It turns out that it had actually appeared in the series during season one, episode 4, if I'm not mistaken. I thought that was really neat, and there were some photos of clips in a binder from the show on the coffee table in the gathering room to read. I'm a big fan of the show. So, this was neat for me, even if others aren't. I'm weird, and in Portland, that is "normal"! Portland is one of my very favorite cities in the U.S. for all of it's diversity, charm, and acceptance of the "weird". It is a relaxing place, and it can be an very exciting place too! One need only to know where to look. There is more to do than I ever have time, and I do love to continually explore it's nuances, and the hidden treasures. However, during my visit this week at the Lion and the Rose with my amazing wife, I felt right at home to just relax, and sit in the swing on the wrap around porch, watch the people, squirrels, and listen to the gentle rain fall. I was able to hit my reset button, and that was just what I had hoped for. Thank you, Steve, Dusty, and staff for such a wonderful experience. We will see you again in the near future.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed there for four nights and it was precious and beautiful and warm and inviting. The owners, Dusty and Steve, are absolutely wonderful and so helpful. It is perfectly located in Irvington, walking distance from lots of shops and restaurants and is super close to the center of Portland. The decor inside of this bed and breakfast goes above and beyond any other bed and breakfast I have ever stayed at, it is truly Victorian and exquisitely up kept. All of the rooms are gorgeous and comfortable and the breakfasts are super delicious. I highly recommend the Lion and the Rose if you would like to stay in a very special place!

Renee R.

Yelp
Very friendly and engaging owners, beautiful big house, interesting story! We loved staying in the downstairs apartment and our every need was met. They even have hand-made soap that is made especially for them in the shape of a rose. We enjoyed the accessibility to the main drag, with shops and restaurants and all the lovely old Irvington houses. We slept well with lots of quiet and comfortable beds. I would definitely stay here again. Parking was easy too. I got a free spot right across the road each day.

Gail G.

Yelp
The Lion and the Rose is a true bed and breakfast in the heart of Portland's Rose Quarter. A beautiful remodeled Victorian mansion, every room is decorated over the top with antiques, elaborate wallpapers, and lovely bedcovers embroidered with flowers. En suite bathrooms. Breakfast included delicious frittata, fruit salad, and French toast. Somewhat expensive, but we were there for our anniversary. Family-owned and operated. LGBT friendly.

Danielle D.

Yelp
Ditch those big, bland chain hotels. You've come all the way to Portland, so why not take in all its uniqueness and weird glory? This B&B is definitely unique and not at all weird! Located in the Irvington Historic District, the neighborhood itself is worth the stay if you're an architecture nerd. Stepping into this 1906-built Queen Anne home is like going back in time (just ignore the computer by the stairwell and the modern-day kitchen appliances). The owners, Steve and Dusty, are incredibly friendly and perfect hosts. You'll notice they have a breakfast option. This is no typical continental breakfast; you're not gonna be picking up sugary, packaged danishes and day-old bagels here. One of my favorite things about our stay is that we had a full breakfast (fruit, delicious scrambled eggs & veggies, scones, OJ, etc.!) at a beautifully-set table with the other guests. They really bring out the fine china for you. It's rare that you meet other guests, have a sit-down meal together and start off your day with good conversations. Steve joined us all for breakfast and it was great to have a chat with people from around the country and in different life stages (my husband and I hope to be like the awesome couple we met who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!). We stayed in the Escapade Room, which is exploding with shabby chicness -- think pastel pink, florals, lace, the whole shebang. If you're into that kind of thing, you'll love it. If you're not, just suck it up; you'll find yourself victim to its flowery charming ways. They have other rooms to choose from, so be sure to book early on their site to make sure you get a room that suits your style if you prefer. I can't wait to visit Portland again; my husband and I are definitely coming back to the Lion & the Rose. P.S. There's a little "surprise" for you in the bathroom...don't worry, the good kind, you'll see!

G B.

Yelp
Beautiful Victorian house with warm, friendly, helpful staff. Also, there are plenty of amenities to make your stay more comfortable (E.g. unlimited quality tea, fruits, cookies, drinks, etc.). We stayed in the Rose room on the ground floor, although we could hear people talking in the lounge area outside we didn't feel that there was a lack of privacy for us. The room had air conditioning, a jacuzzi tub and a TV. It was also well furnished and clean. We had the breakfast was good; it consisted of quiche, fruit and a muffin. However, the real treat of the morning meal is meeting some of the other guests. Thanks for an amazing stay in the Rose city!

Becca K.

Yelp
Stayed at the Lion and the Rose this past weekend, and had a wonderful time! My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding, and we wanted to stay somewhere romantic, low key, and not overly-frilly. Luckily, we got the Starina room, which featured dark green wallpaper, a giant wooden bed with stepstools, and a massive armoir. Our hosts, Dusty, Steve, and Russ, were all super friendly, and the location was perfect. Great, short walk to the MAX, and tons of easy-to-find street parking. We also met interesting people at the group breakfasts each morning. The one downside was that as vegetarians, with one of whom doesn't eat eggs as eggs--As in, no eggs or omelets or or quiche or frittata. Only eggs in things like pancakes. Or cookies. Or cakes--we were somewhat limited at the prepared breakfast. Steve offered to cook oatmeal or toast or extra things for us to substitute the egg and meat dishes, which was very generous, but we felt sort of guilty, especially when asked in front of others. While the request was noted on our reservation and we spoke with the staff,, we still felt a little unease at breakfast. Next time I'll contact the inn via phone beforehand to make sure we're comfortable upon arrival. All in all, though , a wonderful little inn!

Yelp
FANTASTIC STAY!! This is a Beautiful Home and alway's a pleasure to stay. Next time I will stay longer.. Have a Great and Blessed Summer!!

M.Tamik O.

Yelp
What a TERRIFIC, lovely, absolutely CHARMING find! Great location, friendly, accommodating hosts. Really loved this place - they made Portland and my visit there feel like home. Thanks, guys!

Matt T.

Yelp
Great plate to stay! I've never felt this comfortable in my life. The caretaker is really nice and they have a great garden to view. Just be careful not to step on any of the frogs. The host is very protective about them. I must say the place really gives off a great vibe. And the host is extremely friendly. It's like I'm awe stricken every time he touches me. I guess some people just have such a strong aura around them. The only complaint I heard was from a little boy who said he saw the host eating frogs. But boys will be boys so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

Gorman B.

Yelp
Great location, excellent service, free and easy parking (hard to get in Portland). Hosts were very accommodating, and I throughly enjoyed fresh cookies and tea at the end of each day. The bed is one of the best I have ever slept in at a B&B. My room was very large, and had a large separate shower and whirlpool tub. The price per night I thought was a bargain, especially considering it is in the heart of Portland. My only suggestion is that the owners edit the excessive decor and furnishings. The house architecture is really stunning, but hard to appreciate at its fullest with so much clutter.

Michael C.

Yelp
It is a beautifully restored Victorian home. We stayed two nights and stayed in different rooms- each was unique, comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast was home cooked and delightful. We've stayed in a number of B&Bs on the West Coast and thus was the best!

Heather G.

Yelp
Such an amazing place! Gorgeous building, fantastic hospitality and delicious breakfast. The 24/7 tea and the option to "entertain guests in the parlor" were delightful perks. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Rachel J.

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful staff. The place was very clean and organized. They advertise a "continental breakfast," but it's huge and quite tasty. At night, it's so quiet you would think it was a country location, but you are literally just a couple of blocks from great restaurants and things to do. It's only a 10 min walk to the metro, and then you are free to explore the entire area.

Mary L.

Yelp
It is the perfect place for a min-vacation in Portland. There's about a 10 minute walk to the max line in a beautiful neighborhood. The house is immaculate and the staff kind and eager to help. It was warm, even in the rainy weather. The morning scones, cereals and yogurt were abundant. A real blessing!

Dave W.

Yelp
Nice people with a clean and well decorated property. Enjoyed my stay coming back for sure!

Nancy O.

Yelp
Our first visit to Portland and this B&B was a great way to start. Lovely home with very thoughtful accommodations -- Dusty and Steve thought of every detail to make our stay comfortable. The maps were my favorite, as I truly would have been lost exploring the area without them.

Robert D.

Yelp
So my GF and we're planning a trip to Pirtland for Valentines Day. In checkin reviews, The Lion & the Rose was highly recommended. Not only was it gorgeous, it was quite the value. Having stayed at B&B's in Napa, my expectations were high and my wallet was nervous. First, the pictures of the rooms don't do them justice. Second we took advantage of the winter special and got a discount for out second night stay. Dusty, Steve and the staff were friendy. Actually I felt like we were family over for a visit without it being awkward. The delicious snacks out all day along with coffee tea and an assortment of other drinks were a welcome site. When I say tea, it's more like a tea store with about 25-30 types of tea to choose from. The bed was comfortable, but those sheets are to die for. They feel like the finest high thread count sheets but they aren't. They are.... Well you just have to stay to understand. They were so comphy, that we purchased a sheet set and pillow covers for home. Oh and did I mention that in purchasing the sheet they gave us 50% off of one day of our next stay? Yes they did! We will be back this summer. What a stay and what a beautiful are of the country.

Yelp
Awesome people, great atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff, beautiful home, and an amazing experience. We will most definitely stay at this place again the next time we are in Portland.

Yelp
Was a wonderful experience and came with warm welcoming staff that was knowledgeable about the area and the houses history.

Yelp
Loved our stay in Portland, the B&B was great, staff was immensely helpful, gracious, kind and the location very convenient. Sting was AWESOME as well. :0)

Yelp
An amazing B & B. House is spectacular. Each room is done with such detail. The staff is great, breakfast is really good and you sit in this gorgeous dining room with other visitors chatting away. Steve and Dusty are great and there is another Dusty who cooked for us making very tasty dishes. I want to know how they make a rose on your toilet paper, even your soap is a rose. They have wonderful tea and snacks 24/7. If you are in Portland, Oregon definitely stay here! Great location, a bus outside the door, easy walk to metro, food, shopping

Yelp
Great B&B! It was our first experience at a B&B and after 9 hours of driving time, we finally made it to the Lion and the Rose. Steve was very accomodating and he walked us through the history of the house and our room (Avandel Room) and told us to make ourselves at home. The room itself was small and comfortable and we had the biggest private bath! Breakfast was promptly at 8:30 in the morning and very delicious. There was a lot of room to roam and explore and the house was very cozy and Victorian. I would recommend this B&B to anyone!

Yelp
Lion and the Rose was my first experience staying at a bed and breakfast. I only live 13 miles away but I needed a relaxing place to stay for the night. I collect antiques so staying in a beautifully maintained Victorian house decorated entirely in the Victorian style made me as happy as Disneyland makes some people. The Lavonna room is feminine, flirty, and floral. I particularly enjoyed the layout and size of the room which had a split bath, king size bed, and seating area that feels like its own private room. The seating area is perfect for daydreaming and watching the world from the turret of the house. I didn't request breakfast but I still made use of the well stocked kitchen that had cereal, tea, cookies, and beverages for free. If you are looking for a picturesque, well organized place to relax look no further.

Yelp
Honestly, one of the best places I've stayed at. Not only were the staff extremely nice, but the room I stayed in (Victorian Apartment) was so much nicer than I could have expected. I went to Portland for a conference, opting to stay at the Lion and the Rose because it looked unique online and was cheaper than the $225 a night to stay at the conference hotel. I wasn't expecting a lot from the room because of this; I was blown away, though. The Victorian Apartment is HUGE, bigger than the one bedroom apartment I live in. The bed, sheets, and robe provided were amazing! And, on top of all this, the amount of complimentary food and beverages offered supersedes the selection that major hotel chains will carry but charge for. I truly cannot say enough about my wonderful experience at the Lion and the Rose!

Yelp
My wife and I chose to stay here for our 13th Wedding Anniversary and were not disappointed one bit. Amazing staff and the house is simply beautiful. This is a true benchmark that other B&B's should strive to emulate. Within walking distance to Lloyd Center for shopping but the real treasure is on the streets surrounding the inn. Grab a coffee and stroll through this historic Irvington neighborhood with gorgeous old homes, tree lined streets and smell the flowers along the way. Friendly neighbors walking their dogs and we often received a welcome "Good Morning" along the way. A truly wonderful experience all around.

Yelp
Attacking the messenger about the problems in your B&B with threatening phone calls to my husband, rude voicemails and emails to me, and the dishonest comments you listed here (actually every sentence of your comment was untrue) simply amplify the fact that your customer service is really bad; and now others, not just myself, can see that for themselves. Instead of being open to the comments that YOU requested from me (I was not going to leave a review, until you asked me to via auto-email), you have further exacerbated the bad experience at the Lion and the Rose. I, as a customer, have no bad motive, as you suggest. It is clear that you are the ones who are desperate enough to carry on like this. Just stop. Fix your B&B. And be nice to people. And be grateful that I didn't write even more about my experience there. Finally, stop wasting my time. I wasted enough time staying at your dilapidated B&B.

Yelp
We booked the Avandel room because our favourite ones (the Lavonna and the Garden room) were booked already. When we arrived the lady running the place, Kerry, showed us all the house, the amenities we could use, etc. She was really nice and the welcome was perfect. After we started unpacking she informed us that the Lavonna room reservation was cancelled and she upgraded us to a better room with no extra fees! I felt like a princess for a day, the room was perfect and everything is really taken care of. Perfect service, amenities, hospitality, everything. We did't order breakfast (next time!) but anyway she offered us cereals, coffee and muffins. The bed was really comfortable, wifi worked perfect...I have nothing to complain about! I want to repeat already! Really recommended for couples who travel or special days even if you live in Portland

Yelp
Stayed a week at Lion and Rose while taking a woodworking course. The room was comfortable and the breakfasts were great. The staff accommodated my early schedule with early breakfasts. Steve gave me great directions so I was able to get around Portland easily.

Yelp
What a lovely Victorian looking place - right out of the movies ! Amazing breakfast, healing Kangen water, lovely sophisticated hosts, wonderful spa bath tubs, classy quality sheets and bath robes, and super comfy beds. We brought a guest home for tea in one of the many cozy seating areas, fire crackling in the fireplace . . . it's just the place I would love to spend the holidays reading a book after exploring town - and everything in town is just close by. I was sorry to read Tee J's review - parking was really easy except Saturday night due to many people heading out to the nearby dinner and dance places - gee - we had to walk 25 (!) steps to the car!! The Rose room was lovely and quiet, overlooking the back yard, yes - one does hear the gentle murmur of a house awakening in the morning, or the shower above very slightly, traffic only muffled in the distance, and I am quite sensitive to noise . . . and yes - you have to make your dietary needs known before you come, our lady chef created lovely looking, very tasty meals for us. Thank you Steve and partner for creating such a romantic jewel off the trodden path.

Yelp
This is a fabulous place to stay. The only drawback is the price, but you are paying for high quality. It is super cute, there are free snacks, and there are a couple lovely rooms to study/read in. When I start making a lot more money and visit Portland again, I will certainly be staying here again. Steve was very kind and let us stay in our favorite room another night by calling the guest who had the room reserved. He offered to lower our rate if we couldn't stay in it. Thank you Steve. I look forward to returning soon to further enjoy the splendor of The Lion and the Rose! - Eric

Yelp
We had a group of 12 and the home was perfect for us. It felt like our sorority days back at the University of Washington. The owners are wonderful, helpful and proud of their home and the chef made the most amazing brunch for all of us. We loved our stay, we will be back next year.

Yelp
Love, love, love our stay! Everything was absolutely perfect from the welcome to the tour to our rooms. We actually stayed in the apt and frankly wanted to stay permanently! The breakfast was outstanding . Best quiche I've ever had and I am a quiche snob. We are planning our next stay as I type this.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay. The house is wonderful! I could not think of any other way to spend time in Portland as amazing as our stay here. Thank you so much for the hospitality and we Are definitely coming back! :)

Yelp
Beautiful home in tranquil and convenient area, comfortable room and the most accommodating and charming hosts. Trolley or bike downtown, restaurants in walking distance. Also, a delicious breakfast. Thanks, guys!

Yelp
This was our first stay at the Lion and the Rose B&B and was very happy with our choice of lodging. The breakfast was great and the service was very good. They are very friendly and accommodating. The tour of the house and talk they give when they check you in is very nice. We were in the Rose Room on the first floor and it was very nice, also very close to the dining room and kitchen. The parking even though it was on the street was very convenient and worked out well. We are certainly going to return on our next visit to Portland.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed our stay there. The owners were friendly, the house had a nice character, the neighborhood was worth a walk, there were several good restaurants close by, and the light rail station was only a short walk away.

Yelp
Everything about the Lion & the Rose was phenomenal, but I can't say enough good things about the tea wall! Tea drinkers get no respect when we travel--maybe we'll find an old Lipton bag next to the coffee maker, maybe there's no way to boil water at all. Here, there's an extensive tea selection and a hot water dispenser available 24/7. It was the best stay I've ever had.
