Yelp
We hit up the three big breweries in the area on one Saturday (Lion Bridge Brewing, Third Base Brewery, and Turner Alley Brewing), and this was an even a-okay. I'd pick it over Third Base by far, but it doesn't have quite the "small business brewery" feel that Turney Alley does.
If you want the most unique beer offerings in Cedar Rapids, I'd say this would be the brewery to go to. It doesn't offer that same "small business" feel that Turner Alley does, and it doesn't offer the same gigantic restaurant menu that Third Base does, but it does offer quite an adventure for beer afficianados.
THINGS TO KNOW:
-They sell a decent amount of food. It's not super-varied, but it's your standard bar foods including pretzels, fries, and other things. Think of it like an shortened sports bar menu.
-They offer flights. Unlike most other brewery I've ever been to, the price of your flight here will vary upon the beer you choose. It will be between $8 to $13 with the current options they had there. Ours was $10.80, I think.
-They offer non-alcoholic drinks. They had orange soda and root beer when we were there.
PROS:
-Their beers are SO unique. They have your standard beers that taste closer to domestics, but then they also have really unique ones like beers with Hibiscus or light (non-stout) coffee beers. Out of all of the breweries we went to, this had the most unique offerings by far.
-Lots of brews to choose from. You could get two flights and still not try all of the beers. Lots of good choices that you'll be sure to find something you really like.
-French fries were super, duper good. Really, really liked them - especially with their ketchup or mustard.
CONS:
-I was so, so excited for their pretzels. However, the pretzels really weren't what I was expecting. They DID taste like pretzels, but they were gigantic. Instead of being thinner pretzels or curled up pretzels, they are two large, thick pretzel sticks. It works, but the thickness of the pretzels seems to take away a bit from the enjoyment.
-Service is confusing, to say the least. There wasn't a sign asking us to be wait to be seated, so we seated ourselves - and didn't receive service or recognition in so long that we went and looked for a sign that asked us to wait. We thought maybe we had to order at the bar, so about that time, a waitress showed up. She didn't check in on us much throughout the visit and was pretty slow to bring the check, but she was also pretty busy, so it's understandable.
-Parking might be a bit of a pain. It's located in the Czech downtown-ish area, so it doesn't have the private parking you might want. We didn't have to walk too far, but it really would depend on what time of day you went.
