The 15 Most Beautiful Italian Islands

"The largest and most populated of the Aeolian Islands, with a pretty centro and ample tourist services that make it an excellent base for island-hopping. Offerings include beaches, boating, and significant archaeology—remnants from Bronze Age obsidian trade routes are on display at the Luigi Bernabò Brea Archaeological Museum housed in Lipari Castle, an ancient fortress adapted over centuries." - Elizabeth Heath Elizabeth Heath Elizabeth Heath is a writer and editor living on a hill in Umbria, from where she writes about travel in Italy, the rest of Europe, and farther afield. "Lipari's Historic Center With its small shops and outdoor restaurants, the long Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Lipari Town was made for strolling. The Ottoman admiral Barbarossa wreaked havoc here in 1544; following that, Spanish rulers built the imposing citadel over a Greek acropolis. Inside its walls, the Archaeological Museum, located in an old bishop’s palace, displays Neolithic objects alongside fine amphorae and other Greek artifacts. Next door, a gorgeous Baroque facade draws you into the cathedral with its detailed and colorful vault."

We stayed in Lipari for 10 days in October 2018 and loved every moment. We travelled to the isle of Vulcano for volcano climb and it was fantastic. We swam in turquoise water on the Lipari coastline and could see the pebbles on-the seabed in 10 metres of depth . On the last day we did the Stromboli volcano climb to a hight of 950 metres to witness the eruption every several minutes. Would highly recommend a trip to this beautiful archipelago .

If you're looking for a rather natural island, with functional little seaside towns, lots of Seaview and sunsets to discover by scooter, this island is perfect for you! Don't expect "fancy" or "Lorretto del Mar" and you'll have an amazing time here

A beautiful Island and we need to reAch the island via a ferry! I would recommend taking a taxi to visit the entire island in couple of hours!

Magnificent island, lovely people, best food (especially Restaurant Sangre Rojo....even if the name is spanish, it‘s a typically sicilian cuisine)

I would choose another Island for vacation. Lipari is Good to visit but 3 hours are enough here. Go to Vulcano :)

Yelp
This is sort of like an Italian Biergarten. An Aperitivogiardino! Meraviglioso. Here, one can sit under lemon trees for drinks or at a table for meals, among a pleasant outdoor ambience enriched by a fantastic collection of music. I tried their pasta with eggplant and ricotta: It was savory and hit the spot at a reasonable price point. Friendly staff. Occasional live music. A retreat from the touristic island bustle!
