The best bar in San Francisco! Small, and looks a bit rough at first inspection. But it has great beers, and knowledgeable servers. If you like real ales, you’ll LOVE it here. The bar is UnTappd verified, so the menu is on the wall-mounted TV (see my photograph). After ten years of searching, I enjoyed my first Pliny the Elder, and Pliny the Younger here; they were worth the wait. Can’t wait to come again!

Some great experiences had here over the years. Not only do they serve great beer with an abundance of options, but the bartenders are good company and it attracts tourists from around the world. My most memorable night here is chatting with a man from the Netherlands. We shared beers and connected through Untapped. Connecting through the love of beer. Who would’ve thought? Having such a selection allowed me to share a beer from one of my favorite breweries with my newfound friend (Ale Apothecary). Every time I am in San Francisco I stop by and have a beer or two. Thank you to the owner for such a fantastic selection of bottled/canned beers from around the U.S and the world.

Legit beer bar with an amazing draft selection coupled with a great bottle fridge for in-person or to go consumption. Loved the music selection and mix of baseball and football tv options. Highly recommend for good California and other import options.

I love stopping by Liquid Gold. They always have a huge selection of great beer so I'm usually finding something delicious. Plus a huge selection of beers in the fridge to take home. I almost always grab a few to take home because of their collection of sours, ales and even some great NA ones. Plus they are super dog friendly with treats so its always nice to pop by after work, or make a nice long walk out of it!

One of the best tap rooms I’ve ever been to. I had great conversations with everyone there and the selection of craft beer was phenomenal. Such a great environment.

Outstanding taproom with very knowledgeable folks behind the bar. Taps are rotated frequently, and if none of the 30-odd draft beers are calling to you, there’s an even larger assortment of bottles and cans to-go. This spot does a great job of featuring breweries from around the Bay and broader California. Definitely worth a stop!

Have a drink at this small but full of beers spot. They even got Tap Cider, a great variety of Canned Craft Beer from breweries from the California Area. In our country, when we go to a tap room, we have to try every beer available. The owner was very nice in understanding our tradition so he gave us a lot to try, that is why we left 25% tip over the full ticket. Great time here! You should definitely visit this place.

Best tap room in SF. Been going there for years and they always have new beers from top breweries -- including a few to-go fridges. They keep pace with new breweries so you can trust the selection always represents the latest and greatest.

Really awesome little beer bar in the neighbourhood that has a really nice variety of rotating craft beers, as well as snacks, four packs, and locals. Service is great, people are friendly and there's the occasional dog to pet! I love this place, definitely one of our more regular spots when we're feeling up to going out!

Rather you are a local or from out of town, this is a casual place to hang out with friends and get a cold beer. They have plenty of selections to satisfy any taste preference. The fun part is I found out that pet is allowed.

Good selection. Reasonable prices. Convenient location. Friendly bartender. You can bring outside food and enjoy a good beer. They also have decent options for those who don't want a beer.

Liquid Gold is a perfect name for this beer spot. How else can you describe the golden elixir's on tap? If you are a beer person, you will leave this place happy. And I would't say you have to be a certain kind of beer person (that is, ipa, sour, etc.) Different styles are fairly well represented across many excellent local craft breweries. I really like how LG offers a very small pour option for most beers, which allows me to try a lot more without both the cost and getting too toasty. But I believe they also offer growler options, which is super convenient (especially if you're close by, which alas I am not.) Also, they have a pretty big cooler with cans, so if you need more options to bring home you're very covered. Finally, they don't serve food but I have brought snacks, etc. inside (Nourish cafe is just a few doors down, hint hint.) Enjoy a sandwich in a low-key, relaxing joint, with plenty of beer to keep your thirst quenched.

i look forward to the beginning of every week because it means a trader joe's haul and a trip to liquid gold right across the street as a little treat !!! i love how chill it is in here and the bartenders are just so nice and it's so sweet that they remember us when we walk in! i always try their new hard ciders or whatever sweet stuff they have. i'm also partial to the hefs they serve here. i looove this place heeheee

If you're looking for an awesome craft beer selection, including the famous Pliny the Elder, go see Sam here! Ask for a bowl of chips with your beer on the house! Nice Tap House!! They don't have a huge selection but they definitely pick their beers carefully. There's something for every beer lover and they're super friendly to dogs and people.

When it comes to a craft beer bar, Liquid Gold checks all the boxes for me! I've been coming here for years, and this past weekend was my first time since COVID hit, and it was amazing to enjoy a nice cold sour beer inside! What'll you notice right away is their enormous selection of draft and bottle/canned beer. On draft you'll have at least 20+ options and a lot of them rotate, so coming in everytime is like a new experience! All their beer options on the TVs above the screens and what I love most is that they have clear descriptions and pricing for each one. My go-to if I'm with a group is to go for the flights, because I'm a variety type of guy. My latest trip was the first time I was able to trying an Alvarado street brewing sour beer, and it was easily the best tasting sour I've had ever. I believe it was called the Howitz, which is a passionfruit, orange & guava kettle sour ale. It was so tasty, I had to get two! Another reason I love this place, it's dog friendly! They have tables outside, but they even let me bring my pup inside while I sipped on my beer. If you find yourself on Polk St. this is just a short walk from the main area. Highly recommend this spot for any beer lovers out there!

How did I not know this place existed??? We came here on a whim after reading solid reviews for the place on Yelp, and are we glad we decided to check them out! Double Howzit Punch from Alvarado street, yes please! What an amazingly balanced 8% POG sour. The Turbo Dust hazy from Bare Bottle, it was smooth and not overly bitter, with a great dry hopped flavor punch. We also tried the Barrel roll #3 from Hanger 24 and it was a little sweet for my taste, but good flavor otherwise. Great attentive bartenders and a cool vibe and a couple screens playing local sports games. Be sure to stop in if you're in the area!

A super great beer bar. Friendly staff, great on draft selection and an even better take home selection. Fairly large bar that always has friendly people and just a great spot to checkout. It's obvious why Liquid Gold is so popular.

Random spot that we decided to stop in at for a small taster. Overall, I thought the place was pretty cool. Liquid Gold has a great beer selection. We did not stay here long, but the ambience was nice. Everyone we met was friendly. We sat outside for a little bit before moving on to the next spot. If you like beer, I'd say Liquid Gold is definitely worth checking out. Prices are slightly elevated, but so is the quality.

Been here a few times now and I love the vibe! Great selection of craft beers on tap as well as for to-go. Bartenders are always friendly as well. I've been here for sf beer week and love the breweries they manage to showcase. You can choose between 5oz tasters or a full pour. If you're a big craft beer fan, definitely check out the cans you can purchase as there is a wide variety. It's across the street from Trader Joe's and while it's not the most spacious, I love how there's a lot of light that comes in from outside and there's an area for a few big groups to chill. They also don't serve food here. Definitely will be back!

Great beer, very mediocre atmosphere and location overall sadly. I love the quality of choices and overall beer here but I rarely go because it's not easy to get there (or parked) and it's not a particularly fun place to spend time (even if it is drinking beer)

I work in the neighborhood and have never been more impressed about the atmosphere and CUSTOMER SERVICE this brewery provides! I have been to my fair share of breweries from half moon bay, Pacifica, to SF and so on and so forth! Despite the small handful of low reviews, I say CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF! I stumbled upon this place trying to find my way around Lower Nob Hill and I have become a REGULAR! Breweries/Tap rooms are supposed to be simple. Not your average BAR environment that can get overcrowded, noisy, not being able to grasp the bartenders attention - this place is the complete opposite which is why I enjoy coming here! Such a friendly environment all around and EVERY bartender -- specifically Sam, Peter, Melissa & Sebastian have always made me feel welcome as I come here on most weeks 5 days out of the week because of how incredibly genuine they are individually and even more so when they work together. Their selection of beer is a BONUS! I am never disappointed when looking for a new taste in beer to try. Because they have such good beers on tap, they do go through them pretty quickly and Sam, Melissa & Peter always help me pick out a new beer that they think I'd like from previous interactions and I always end up grabbing a 9oz of whatever they pick! It's truly them being so personable and the great beer that has me returning. Try to get to know the **bartenders AND the beer** before making a quick decision on recommending and returning to this tap room. Great establishment, great vibes, great people, & most of all great service! If it wasn't for these bartenders I would not come back time and time again.

For all my San Jose yelpers, Liquid Gold in SF is the equivalent to ISO beers or Market Beer Shop. Found this spot after a morning of hiking. We were looking to kick back and enjoy some beers after eating, and Liquid Gold did just that for us. The parking situation isn't ideal since it's located on a busy big street, so do your best to find street parking nearby on the cross street or a few blocks away...or you can always take public transportation or Lyft! The beer selection is very diverse and expansive. We both went with the tasters because there were too many beers for us to take our picks in pints. There are a bit of everything--barrel-aged, sours, stouts, pilsners, New England ales--you name it they practically had it! Our beertender was going solo that afternoon, but service was still courteous and he got the job done. Thanks good sir. I enjoyed how he was not judgmental about the selection of my beers, and he so graciously allowed me to sample the beers I were unsure about before committing to some tasters. Quality man, thank you! Ambiance has got a cool and relaxed lounge vibe without the loud and trashy music. There's a edgy rocker spirit to Liquid Gold, probably because of the cool overhead gold lamps and the suave bar stools. There are other seating arrangements at the entryway and one bigger table at the end of the bar near the restroom. There is also a fridge stocked full of beers if you're in the mood to take some solid burrs home after a visit in this taproom. 100% will highly recommend coming here for beer snobs and newbs.

Great tap selection and very friendly service. I wish they had more ciders or seltzers available since my wife is gluten free and couldn't have much. However, I had enjoyed all my beers and definitely recommend stopping here!

Incredible selection and even better staff. With so many breweries and bars in the Bay Area this place is still in my regular rotation of places to frequent. This is the only beer bar that not only offers beer flights but lets you pick your beers in the flight - extremely rare these days. My boyfriend loves grabbing a brew from this spot and he finally brought me along with him. I'm not totally into beer like he is but I really enjoyed this place! The staff was great and made a good recommendation when we told him what we were looking for. They have a great selection of beers on tap and in cans/bottles togo. It's a laidback taproom with music and TV. I can see why he enjoys it so much :)

My friend and I were in SF for the day. This place had a hometown vibe since there were so many locals. Lots of options and very nice looking inside. They had some outdoor and indoor seating but it was a little cramped. Huge beer fridges that everyone could find something in! Would recommend for a nice, fun afternoon

Great spot for an even better selection of beer. This place is now my to-go spot for beer. Love the vibe here and everyone that works here! Everyone always has a smile on their face. Oh and the cool thing is if you can't decide on choosing a beer, they have a random dice with all the beers numbers listed on the dice where you can roll and they will choose for you! Pretty cool :) They also have a huge selection of beer to go if you don't want to drink there :)

Life saver for COVID, although my liver and waistline beg to differ! They have an amazing selection - I'm usually a stout guy and they have great, harder-to-find stouts like Bottle Logic (not easy to find in SF!) but even their IPA selection makes me happy (specifically Humble Sea and Equilibrium)! Great service, reasonable prices, and the one time that I had a bad experience, they were quick to fix it and I felt valued as a customer. A very worthy business to support during these times...

I hope no one ever finds out about this place because I want it all to myself. I love that it's never too packed. AND there is a wideeee selection of beer (almost too wide, because I always want to try them all). You can even get beer floats with humphrey slocumbe ice cream!! This is such a hidden gem. :) SHHHHh

Good beer up the hill! A friend suggested we meet at Liquid Gold for a beer or two. Coming from the Financial District side, I was a bit pissed about the fact that I had to climb up the hill to get there, but once I got there my mood changed quickly. The place is small, but inviting. The bar is a good size and the menu gives you plenty of options. I tried Kern River's Hop Nookie just because it said "Triple IPA" under it! Well, I can't say if I enjoyed it 3 times more than other IPAs, but it sure was good and felt good going down too! After the 11% alcohol buzz, I decided I need to take it easy for my second round and Pine Street's Green Thumb which is a Rosemary pale ale and only 5%! Good decision! Another good beer! If you are ever walking that way and feel like a brew, stop for one; you won't be sorry you did :-)

YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017: 8/100. THIRD OF FIVE SPOTS FOR NYE! Hubbers and I continued our quest for random NYE bar stops and decided to walk up this street from O'Farrell. Whoa, those hills! Hubbers and I certainly felt like we had a workout of some sort! We walked by this place, did a double take, stopped, then decided, "Eh. Why not?!" I let Hubbers decide on our drinks. It was a good change from the first couple of spots we went to. There wasn't a crowd and it was pretty chill. I guess you can say this was our eye of the (NYE BARHOP) storm. There's a fridge at the back with all kinds of wine and beer if nothing catches your attention on their menu. We took our time because our next stop was a few more hills away. It's a good kickback place if you happen to be looking for one.

I loved visiting this beer bar during my trip! They have a very well-organized menu that breaks up their beers into their types/flavors which I always appreciate. They let you try the beers before buying them or making you get a flight, which is also a plus! We grabbed the couch so we could watch the basketball game comfortably. They have tons of games such as Connect 4, Battleship, Cards Against Humanity, etc. Liquid Gold also has a fridge in the back filled with bottled beers and ciders that you can buy for a small extra opening fee, I think about a dollar.

Great beers and selection on tap and in cans/bottles to go. Mellow vibe and good amount of seating. The person taking drink orders was very nice and when me and my hubby left to go check our car and came back there was no eyerolls or like oh God u again, it was more like a welcome back. We will definitely be back when we are in the area

Had a beer here before a show at the Masonic. Well, had a flight, I should say. Really appreciated that I could choose any beers for my flight. I'm a stout fan so when I'm forced into an IPA or anything else, really, just so I can get that last selection in the flight of a stout, it ticks me off. They do a good job of keeping beers rotating in, which you can watch on their live board, as happened when they ran out of one stout and replaced it with another. There wasn't any whale-of-a-stout that night, but it was just mid-November, so I would hope for more interesting offerings to come soon. The service was fine - friendly, to be sure, but not gonna be besties with anyone working here. The atmosphere is also just fine - not spectacular - just fine. You're not gonna hang forever here - you'll be in and out.

30 beers on tap. That's good beer at that. Stumbled on Liquid Gold a few months back and it's a lovely spot to grab a pint and discover some new brewskis while you're at it. Tried some new pints from dependable brewers like St. Archer and Half Moon Bay but also was pleasantly surprised by the the blood orange gose that was like a wheat ale with citrus tartness and a slight pinch of saltiness. They have happy hour plus you can also get flights of beers (1-5 beers at $3/5oz for most beers sans a few) to increase your sampling pleasure here. Service is friendly and you'll meet local regulars at happy hour time. Not much for food except some popcorn but feel free to have beer for dinner. Definitely worth a stop in if you enjoy your beers since Liquid Gold rotates their taps. Yes... rotating 30 taps.

Ambiance: up to the mark. You get to watch live sports while listening to music. The ideal place to have a brewery in a short experience. Long thin room with a lot of bar seats. Also asked us if we want to listen to the game instead of the music. We were fine with just watching the game. Quality: They have awesome beer collection on tap and more in bottles. The best part is they also serve 5oz in flight. So you get to try as many when you are trying any new beer. I am a big fan of their beer on tap collection on the flight. I would totally visit this place again on a late weekend afternoon to watch a game. It would be great if they can serve any snack, something like chips or popcorn or pretzel.

So many great beers on tap and so many more in bottles to open or take home. Long skinny room and a long bar for lots of bar seating. Some window bar seats too at the very front. Came on a Wed night around 630 and place was busy but able to find 2 seats just fine. By 830 it was pretty empty. Tried several beers because the bartender was super cool and friendly and wanted you to love your beer. I had a milkshake IPA (very surprised I loved it so much) and then a sour that was delicious. Dog friendly inside! Bartender even had his pup behind the bar and it was his 10th bday! Love places like this! Will definitely return for the beer and friendliness!

Liquid G stack has been a staple in the craft brew scene for a while. Since I've moved down to the Peninsula I haven't been coming in as often as I'd like, but still need to support them through these crazy Corona times. They are doing online orders and pick ups for their taps as well as cans/bottles. Love that they come in Mason jars for pickling and other fun things.

Wish there were more of these gems in my own neighborhood. Wandered over on a Friday after work, expecting to find a busy bar with an after-work scene. Instead, found an easy going local hang-out. Major bonus points there. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the beers they serve. A good variety of local micro brews on tap. Definitely returning for a few more beers!

We have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Liquid Gold. I have to admit, I thought it might be a bit more pretentious than it turned out to be - I keep forgetting that we are SF, and we are a welcoming culture. This is a good beer-centric Tap Room that is focusing on diversity and novelty.. 30 Brews On-Tap, and a good range of selections. I like the lay-out of the space. There is a deep space that has good flow. There is room for a few people to a good-sized crowd as it get's more popular. Their service was excellent. I went off of recommendations for my 4-Beer Flight. All good. There is a good vibe here - it is born out of a love for beer and a desire to share a lot of interesting options. I told the gent I talked to tonight that I LOVE a place that has things that I haven't tried. They have a lot of interesting stuff, and aim to bring in more. They also have an extensive Off-Sale Bottle selection. 60-80. They aim to get unique stuff. If you liked Beer Hall and Hopwater Distribution, this is of that vein, and this is the new kid. Oh, and the Bottle Shop on Telegraph too. Liquid Gold is great. They have a TON of potential to soon be the best.

Looking for a place to get a quick beer (or two, or three) before meeting up for dinner I asked my son for a recommendation close to our hotel and we ended up at Liquid Gold. Not crowded on a Tuesday afternoon and the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of beers for my flight and a good start on my "new beer" list for this vacation. Got a recommendation for a breakfast place (Mymy) and they also have wine, which pleased my very patient wife. This going to be a GREAT vacation!

Excellent beer selection in Nob Hill. They've got tons of IPAs as most beer stores have, but they've also got quite a good selection of darker beers. I'm a big fan of the Stouts and some of them I've never seen before. Also a good location for me to buy a Pliny on the way home!

So a friend of a friend's husband owns this joint and I was glad to finally get in. Great beer selection, good service, and I like that that main window faces west. I means when you come in after work, the sun is really shining through which is a great vibe. Plus they've got TVs and you can watch the game too.

**BEWARE** Liquid Gold is no longer offering drink flights. Yes, you read that correctly. A business that bills themselves a Tap Room is refusing to allow customers to pay to sample their beers. The really sad thing is that this place should be getting a 5 star review. In fact, if this review had been written before COVID, that's exactly what I would have given it. (Not to worry - I would've updated the review with this one anyway) It's nice and clean inside, dog friendly, and they have a large rotating selection of all different types of beer. Like, really large. As in 25-30 beers on tap at any given time kind of large. I love beer, and I visit breweries and tap rooms in the city all the time. I live in the neighborhood, so I was thrilled when Liquid Gold opened and used to go there quite a bit. With all of those beers I would usually go through at least 2 flights before I would settle on "the one" to drink for the afternoon. I was excited to go back after CA fully reopened, and even went online and saw about a dozen beers I wanted to try. Then I get there and the bartender tells me they no longer offer drink flights!?! Are you guys insane?!?! You expect me to pay full price for full pours on several beers and I'm SOL if I don't like any of them? He said they "might be offering small pours sometime in the future". Really? So you "might" offer a second way to rip your customers off? Small pours are generally 5-6oz. They are for restauarants, so people who don't want a full beer can still have one with their food. I don't need an extra 2-3 ounces, at an additional charge, to find out if I like the beer or not. 3oz tasters at $3ea are perfect, which is why every other brewery and tap room in the city offers them. The price isn't even really the issue. I know COVID really screwed things up for businesses and I'd be willing to pay a little more just to help out, especially to a place like this. But offering up a selection like that and refusing to let people pay to sample them is beyond ridiculous. I completely understand why they would put drink flights on pause during the lock downs. It's not practical to make a bartender carry them inside and outside all day long. But now? I actually waited a few weeks to write this review. I wanted to make sure I wasn't overreacting, and take some time and see if I was missing something. Well, in that time I have been to several other breweries, and talked with a couple of dozen people about it, and it turns out I'm not alone in my anger/confusion. I got a variety of responses, and not one of them was good, nor could anyone come up with a logical reason for them doing this. Wake up guys. You're not a regular bar, with selections like Bud, Anchor, Shiner Bock and Racer 5 on tap. I just looked at your website and you have 29 beers on tap (I'm not counting the 2 ciders), none of which can be found anywhere in the neighborhood, and many that likely can't be found anywhere else in the city. This used to be one of my top 5 places in the city to visit, and I would recommend it all the time. I was so happy that you were able to survive the lock down, but now I will be steering people away any time the subject of beer comes up. There are plenty of other places in the city that actually understand the type of business they run and don't force their customers to pay for full pours for beers they've never heard of. Thanks Liquid Gold. Now I get to walk by you every week on the way to Trader Joe's and be reminded of how great you used to be before losing your minds.

A chill, non-crowded place to bring your pupper and enjoy some great beers! We stopped here on a late Friday night and appreciated the friendly service and the unique assortment of brews to choose from. Looking forward to coming back!

Great beer selection in a laid back environment! Bartenders are engaging and helpful in getting you something you might like from their extensive selection of beers on tap. They have many local beers to the area which is cool too! The menu is also well organized so you can find what you like easily, and you can order by a number system which simplifies things. The ambience is pretty good too. It is basically a small place dominated by a long bar, with some tables in front and back. It's not too loud for you to have a conversation, but it is lively and busy! They don't have food but you can order takeout from places around the area and eat it there, which many people were doing. There's also a section of beers you can browse to take home. They have some wine available, but no liquor license, so I wouldn't recommend trying to take anyone here who doesn't like beer. Prices are reasonable for unique selections!

Walked in to purchase beer to go (they have a fridge) at 7.42 pm Sunday, and this quasi hipster wannabe guy says we're "closed" . Boss, your website says you close at 8 on Sundays. Get your timings straight! There were probably 10 drinking at the bar by the way. A neighborhood client looked up your timings, made effort to walk to you (with 18 mins to spare) to spend quick $50 to grab beer to go, let you know it's just to go, and you didn't have the decency to do your basic job for which you're being paid? Probably service industry isn't for you man. Stop losing your owner money and the bar it's reputation. Am gonna ask friends in the hood to start avoiding this place.

Located in Nob Hill, Liquid Gold is a unique bar. They have a uniquely curated selection of beers. My friend got the strawberry beer, oatmeal beer by McKellar, and a New Belgium beer. I had a guava soda because I don't really like alcohol. It was $3. The bartenders are nice and the interior is nice. A fun place to hang out at.

Because you know you need a good craft beer after braving those long lines at Trader Joe's across the street. The draft list has 30 rotating taps and the beer fridge in the back has countless more options. Great chill vibe for Nob Hill and nice lighting for a date.

Favorite beer bar in sf! Great central location with long list of constantly rotating taps. I love the long bar with plenty of bar stools but there's also a few tables. It's not a huge place yet it somehow is always the perfect balance of busy and not too busy when I go. Added bonus of being dog friendly!

Review for Friday, 6p. Quick drink before dinner. - Nice and chill place - sat at the bar (usually that's where to best service is) - I had 3 flights (wheat beer, mint stout and chocolate coffee stout) - husband had 4 flights, mostly IPAs Would definitely come here again; not pretentious. Very chill place and quiet enough (when we went on a Friday night) to hang out. Beers were from Altamont, Sierra Nevada, Drakes, Ballast Point, Fieldwork.
