After 20 years of going to the same person, she opened up her own salon an hour away. As much as I tried to make it work, the drive was killing me. It crushed me knowing that I had to search for a new stylist. I started to search in different Facebook groups and then on Instagram. I went through so many stylists' Instagram accounts. I consulted with someone in a local salon in South Philly. I didn't really connect with her. When I'm sitting in someone's chair getting my hair done, I really need a connection. I happened to find Ashley's name popping up quite frequently in different groups on Facebook. I went to her IG and LOVED her hair photos! She was doing exactly what I was looking for. I also could tell by her own picture that she and I were going to vibe. I also saw on her account that she styles for two people I know. I knew that that was a sign! I went in for a consultation with Ashley. Immediately, we hit it off. Since I had just gotten my hair done by my former stylist, I had to wait about 8 weeks to get my hair done by Ashley. I was literally counting down the days! Yesterday was the day. I was so excited! We did a Balayage, which came out beautifully! Everyone else at the salon is so nice and the place is so chill. I really enjoyed talking to the other girls while I was there. It's like one big family vibe. I couldn't be more happier with the cut and color! I'm SO glad that I found Ashley!

On Saturday, I visited Liquid Hair Salon for a haircut, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! Kim, my stylist, was incredibly professional and attentive. She really listened to what I wanted and made sure every detail was perfect. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, and the salon had such a relaxing, clean atmosphere. Kim took great care of my hair, giving it the fresh, healthy look I was hoping for, all while making sure I was comfortable throughout. If you're looking for a salon that not only delivers amazing results but also makes you feel pampered, Liquid is the place to go.

I LOVVEEE Ashley and the Liquid Salon. Ashley has been doing my hair for years. Throughout our time she made amazing suggestions and figured out the perfect way to make my favorite “white” hair work and keep it healthy. I love this salon, I drive from Vermont to have my hair done by Ashley Kelly who is beyond talented, but is also warm, kind and funny which makes going to Liquid a real joy. Ashley takes so much time to make sure your results are perfect, I receive so many compliments on my cut and color. She also always sends me out with the sickest blow out, even in the humidity of Philly in July. The atmosphere is awesome and the vibes are always upbeat!

Ive been getting my hair done with Ashley for almost 4 years. I came in frazzled and anxious feeling like I couldn’t “figure out” my hair. Ashley was so welcoming and cut my curly hair to perfection. Throughout the years we played with different colors and cuts. Each time turned out stunning, and grew my confidence. Vanessa has been taming my thick wavy curls for three years now and they have never looked better. I've lived in various cities and have been tried so many stylists and price points. Vanessa really takes her time cutting my unruly curls. I get more compliments on my hair now than ever. I am very grateful to have found her.

Ashley is the absolute best! She's been doing my hair for 10 years and I've never been disappointed. I've gotten basic cuts, color ("regular" and brights), balayage, and bridesmaid hair and she never missed. I recommend her to anyone who asks for. Philly stylist.

I'm so happy that I booked an appointment at Liquid!!! The vibe was straight up feminist punk in a classy way. The music matched the aesthetic of the wall: my body, my choice! Jill and Ashley were freaking amazing; I totally teared up when receiving top quality care at their expert hands. I've been treated horribly and insulted by other stylists, so this was a huge deal. The sign outside warns bigots to steer clear, instantly easing my high anxiety. I explained that I wanted bangs and that while I'm growing my hair out, I really have no idea how to style it in a feminine way or even what to ask for. Ashley played with my hair and looked at pictures of it in various styles, suggesting some ideas. She gave me bouncy layers, went back over my bangs after they dried from the relaxing hair wash, and cleaned up the back. She patiently showed me how to use product, a diffuser, and finger curls to enhance my natural curls. The prices are totally reasonable and the cut was incredible. They offer a full range of services, including a complimentary blowout (which I declined so that Ashley could show me how to achieve my everyday look.) The appreciation the staff shows their clientele and the sisterhood I felt warmed my heart. I was treated so respectfully and with such genuine affection that these ladies made me a loyal customer for life! I already booked a follow up. They're true rockstars in my book.

Being a victim of male pattern baldness I feel there are few stylists that can find a cut that works. That's why I followed Ashley here. She's a real pro at giving me something that looks good and can still hide my shame. This was a nice spot with a great view! Everyone was super nice and accommodating. I think it's also fairly priced. Especially when you consider what most places in center city charge. I have not tried the other stylists but I am sure Ashley wouldn't go to a place that wasn't top notch! So if you're considering a new spot and this is in the line up, I highly suggest giving it a go!

As someone in the public eye it was vital to find the right salon after my stylist moved away. After talking with several friends, it was unanimous! Go. See. Ashley. Having known Ashley casually over the years, this was great news - I reached out and have never regretted it. Her attention to detail is amazing and her use of color is almost magical! She enhanced my signature blue tip and gave me a vibrant shade that held on for dear life until our next appointment. Currently working on a limited schedule thanks to Covid, if you are patient and searching for a new stylist - one who will treat you like one of the family - Ashley is golden!!

Had a very great experience getting my haircut last minute before the holidays (December 23rd). That day I made an appointment via ClassPass and they were able to accommodate the last minute booking and schedule. Their shampoo smells amazing and i got a great haircut. It was a very simple trim with some added layers - all followed by one of the best blow outs of my life. It lasted me through the holidays! The price point is great for its location in center city - will definitely be back!

My American Wave Perm has made my dreams of wavey full bodied hair come true. I'll keep this short and sweet. I have very naturally straight hair and have always wanted more body and texture. When I heard about the American Wave perm I did a lot of research and found a few salons that do it in Philadelphia and ended up going with Liquid because they had several examples of the perm on their instagram that looked really good. Kim did the perm and I love it so much. Overall everyone in the salon was very friendly and I felt very welcome and comfortable even though they are not my usual salon. I can't say enough good things about Kim and Liquid! After not having my hair done professionally in over a year, Kim took my box-dyed, crazy long and over-grown locks and turned them into a beautiful beautiful head of hair! Kim was beyond professional and extremely friendly, making me feel like I had known her for years. She was thoughtful about how she wanted to dye and cut my hair. She made suggestions and confirmed I was comfortable with what she wanted to do. I loved every minute of my Liquid experience and can't wait for my next visit. I highly recommend Kim and Liquid!

I followed Ashley here from another salon and am so happy I did! She's the only person I trust to touch my hair, which is crazy and curly but she takes care of it so well. Also was super happy with all of the COVID precautions that Liquid is taking. I felt safe during my entire appointment!

I found this salon through Groupon and was introduced to Ashley, I am so thrilled! She is the only one I trust with my hair now. The salon is taking all the necessary precautions with COVID so I feel safe every time I go in. Make an appointment with Ashley, you wont regret it.

My search for an American Wave (perm, don't let the name fool ya!) lead me here and so I spent almost three hours there. The owner, Kim, was so great to talk to that I didn't notice three hours had passed. The salon is great; cozy and bright. The staff was welcoming and I had a blast. My hair looks great and I feel like I found a salon I could trust!

I never get my hair done because I don't trust anyone with it, but Carly did a balayage for me just the other day and I am in love!!! Book with her! Before and after pics below!

I got my hair dyed and 1.) it wasn't the right color (not even remotely close) 2.) it wasn't the way i wanted it. Paid $250. They said i could come in and they would fix it for free. I made in total three appointments and canceled two of them and rescheduled in advance because of work (my cousin made my appointments for me and canceled them all for me because this is his regular salon and also, this hair appointment was his birthday gift to me). I came in on my third appointment and they said i had to pay additional $200 for the way i want my hair. I argued with the owner. Her argument was that she didn't do my hair, a former employee did. And also, because i made three appointments (she claimed i did not cancel one but it was not true & i had to pay a fee for that). Since i am older than my cousin, she said to me "youre a grownup, you should be canceling your own appointments". That was absolutely rude and besides the point as well. I paid $250 for Liquid Hair Salon. No matter who did my hair or not. My cousin and I called many times to make my appointments and check availabilities. I was not told once i had to pay extra or even potentially having to pay and that they had a one/two week policy to come in and fix your hair. I drove an hour there only to find out on the spot that i had to pay extra. On top, I got attitude from the owner and she tried to blame everything on me & the former employee. To further mention, when my cousin called the salon back, he asked for the assistant or the owner and he heard someone in the background saying "what am i supposed to do with it?! Drew is the man. Focused on my hair in such detail that I got compliments for weeks. He is also very fun to chat with and will make you feel like his close friend.

I would follow Ashley to the ends of the earth. She takes time to talk to you about your hair type and the best products to use. She is so lovely and knowledgeable. I've never met someone so passionate about their job! The staff at the salon are also amazing. I wish I could give Ashley even more stars. She totally transformed my hair. Absolutely amazing!

Although hidden upstairs on Sansom, Liquid is an amazing salon with amazing people. They always do a great job - color, cut, blowout, balayage, etc. The interior is a tiny bit deceiving, but the energy each employee brings causes a great vibe when you enter and leave. There's a million salons in Center City, and I will always go back to Liquid because of the people, quality of hair products, and outcome every time.

I am thrilled that my friend and hairstylist Ashley Kelly will be joining Liquid! I have gone to Ashley for the past two years and won't go with anyone else. Her charismatic personality and outstanding work is second to none. She makes me feel fabulous every time I come and I always receive numerous compliments about my hair. I recommend her to everyone!

This salon is so unprofessional. My cousin wanted rose gold high lights, so as a birthday present I gave her the money and made the appointment at Liquid Hair Salon so she can get her hair dyed. Before I made the appointment I asked the salon if they can do rose gold highlights and they said yes. So my cousin went and the color turned out to be a copper gold and looked nothing like what she had ask for. Because it was so late and she was so frustrated as well sitting for 5 hours strait she didn't say anything until she left the salon. She said this wasn't the color that she wanted so I informed the stylist and she said she can come back and do her hair with out charge. We had to keep changing the appointment date because my cousin had to work and we live an hour away. So when my cousin went back in the salon and sat down they told her she would have to charge her to fix the color when she already paid 250$ last time. Then the boss came over and started to give my cousin an attitude and the boss rudely called me and explained the situation how " their is a one week policy". I said to her if their is a one week policy why didn't you say anything when we change the appointment dates. They were just trying to scam us to pay again. When her first excuse for charging my cousin didn't work, she blamed it on the stylist that did my cousin's hair. The stylist left the salon for personal reasons and let another stylist to redo my cousins hair. The boss kept saying it was the former stylist fault and not the salons problem. I said my cousin paid your salon to do her hair and When I made the appointment I ask the salon if they can do rose gold high lights. The funny part is that the boss was the one who formulated the dye not the stylist. I said to her your salon is the one that hired that former stylist so how is it her problem? The boss said that she would call me back and handle the situation and she never did. Now it's been a week later so I called the salon today and they said the boss was not here today, go figure. So the manger call me. And I will say I was angry when I talked to him and all he kept saying was "don't talk to me like that", "don't tell me what to do", " I will handle it". How was I going to trust that salon again and let them handle it. That's what they said last week. I had to say this because how this salon runs things is so bad. They handle situations horribly and now I feel so bad for my cousin because her hair is messed up because of this salon. The first picture shows how my cousin wanted it the second on is what color she want her hair to look like and the third one is how it turned out. Not even close.

Yes for threading! I haven't had any other services at this salon but I have followed my favorite "threader" here. A friend and I wandered into the now defunct Thread one day over a year ago (she had just moved here, was a Threading veteran and was in search of a new place) and happend to get our eyebrows threaded by Kabon (sp? pronounced Ka-Bone). We were both thrilled with our eyebrows. I asked for her name and began calling for appointments with her. When Thread closed I was devastated and ended up having my eyebrows waxed unevenly and much too thinly by a previous eyebrow waxer that must have lost her touch over the past year and a half or so while I had been going to Thread. When they finally started to grow back in, I saw that Liquid was offering Threading and decided to give it a shot since it's on my way to work. When I sat down in the threading chair, I was both surprised and thrilled to be reunited with Kabon! She beautifully reshaped the previous botched arch I had received in her absence back into a natural and fuller shape which seems to be her specialty. I was surprised by the other negative review not only because Kabon was one of the primary threaders at Thread but also because myself and the other friends that I have referred to Kabon always leave with fuller, natural looking eyebrows. While I am happy with my normal hair salon (Rapunzel's) I will now be a regular at Liquid for threading so long as Kabon is there.

Bought a living social deal and was skeptical based on the reviews here and on another website, i was very pleasantly surprised. I had one of the best highlights Ive ever had. my hair is very long and thick and most stylists do not want to have to deal with it. My stylist and liquid spent a long time on it and made it the blonde that i am always seeking. he even ran behind in time because he was putting in extra foils. also the cut was good. i did not have a problem, they gave me a simple normal hair cut. also as far as the smoking the only time i could smell a bit of smoke was on the receptionist. she did not touch my hair though so it was fine. it was cute inside, they were all friendly and even supplied wine. i would definitely go back.

Great haircut by Carly. I had highlights previously and recently got a haircut. I will definitely be back to see Carly at Liquid.

I love the Liquid family! Kim has been doing my hair for over 20 years & is the best colorist/stylist. All the stylists are great, the salon has a very warm & friendly atmosphere & I highly recommend Liquid. You will not be disappointed. I'd give it 20 stars if I could!

I was wandering around the area looking for somewhere with a good feel to get my haircut. After passing up a couple of intimidating looking salons that seemed like they'd be way out of my price range and my comfort level, I walked into liquid looking for a cut and blow dry. From the minute I walked in the door, I was welcomed by the incredibly warm staff, shown around the cute little place, and offered a cup of tea. In the few minutes before my appointment began, I went into the bathroom and knew by the funky design, this was a place I felt at home. Liquid managed to feel modern without being pretentious. Brian, who cut my hair, made me feel like a movie star the whole time I was there. He was incredibly friendly and made the whole experience a lot more pleasant. A lot of times I feel like stylists will make smalltalk for a couple of minutes, then give up in exchange for a conversation with their coworkers. Brian made me feel completely included, enough to even join in with the banter. Now, a few days later, I'm realizing just how talented Brian really was as a stylist. He knew exactly what to do for my curly hair, and my cut is the kind where I can just blow dry it and go out knowing it looks clean and cute. Overall, my experience here was one of the best I've ever had at any salon. The cut was spectacular and the environment was even better! I'll definitely be back!

I am extremely satisfied with my experience at Liquid. The cut was exactly what I had been searching for. My stylist understood my hair type (I have very fine hair but TONS of it) and helped suggest the cut which included a disconnected later for added volume. I think that did the trick. Numerous past stylists never got it just right. However, I do have to mention how I left completely dissatisfied with the color. The salon is pricey so I had to call back the next morning and ask them to fix it. For the amount of money I paid, I deserved to be happy with the outcome. Not only did they welcome me back immediately, they fixed my color and it's my favorite color to date! They could've handled it completely differently but because of their impeccable customer service, I will absolutely be back for the amazing cut and color. The only downside is they do accept credit cards but you have to pay cash tip and that always is a pain for me because I never carry cash!

I started going to Jen YEARS ago - maybe in 2001? I moved away in 2007 and then back in the fall of last year. As soon as I got settled I called Liquid to see if she still works there. She does and I've been back twice. Still a great cut. She checks me out before the hair wash to talk about what we are going to do, then I get a decent shampoo from one of the girls (though I've had better), and Jen does her stuff. I have somewhat curly, but thin, hair and she knows how to get the best shape and body out of it. The salon isn't super posh, which is fine with me. The price is a little high ($60) given that I usually skip the blow dry, but on the whole I'm quite happy. Friendly folks (at least the women at the front desk and Jen!) and a good cut.

I'm sure that all of the stylists/cosmetologists at Liquid are great... but I am here to tell you that I just LOVE Cyril! He's sooo warm and most genuine. We hit it off right away and I felt like I've known him for years! He expertly works with many different hair textures. I happen to be african american w/thick hair. Cyril patiently answers questions from anxious clients ;), and graciously guides you through each step if you're a first time client. I have a tastefully textured pixie cut and couldn't be more pleased with Cyril's level of excellence!

This is a great salon. Every single person who works here is happy and so nice. It creates such a warm and relaxed environment. I have gone to many salon in Philadelphia and this has the best atmosphere and such an attentive staff. I have had my hair cut and colored here--both were fantastic.

I use Kim and she is great. I have used many salons since moving to Phila. Many do not listen to me. They also do not know how to cut hair. I needed someone who could listen to what I wanted and execute it. The salons I've used were more expensive. I'm so glad that one of my book group friends told me about Liquid. Trust me all the stylist here are wonderful. Do yourself a favor and get your hair done here.

I have tried other haircutters in Philadelphia but would not trust anyone more than I trust Kim. She is also a genius with color. She can do something spectacular or something so subtle that your friends will think that the change they see in you is an exceptionally good haircut. And Liquid is a relaxed, friendly place.

Curly-haired girls THIS is your place and CYRIL is your man. He is amazing! I have been a client of his for 3 years now, and I would not go anywhere else. He knows curls! And to top it off, he is an amazing colorist. I have checked out other salons in Center City, and after my long curls were butchered by a stylist (Joaquin) at Salon Thalia and another who gave me a blow out at Bubbles that left me looking like Simba from the Lion King....Cyril was my hair's rescuer. Not only can he style curly hair, he knows how to get it bone-straight! I HIGHLY recommend him!!

I use to use my eyebrows waxed and it got to the point that they were TOO thin and TOO arched....I basically looked like I had a surprised look on my face! OMG....but I foudn Kabone when she was at Thread Beautuy Bar....which closed its doors. She is now at Liquids and I HAVE to give her her "props"...she is very skilled and I would rather suffer with bushy eyebrows before going to someone else.

Went here on a whim during my lunch hour as a walk-in and I'm so glad I did! I was welcomed by a friendly receptionist, who took my coat and directed me to a station. Brian was my stylist, and I ended up taking advantage of their new client $100 highlight and haircut deal (which is what drew me in from a sidewalk sign). Brian took the time to assess my hair and offer some suggestions, assured me he could have my hair done and me out the door within my time constraints, and he did! My highlights turned out AMAZING and my new haircut is just the refresher I needed. I highly recommend Brian and this cozy little salon was a great accidental find!
