Well the good part about this place is that for someone like me who is ADD and likes shiny things, there's always something neato to look at.
They seriously sell fucking EVERYTHING here. Deli meats, cheese, soda, a bajillion types of booze (more on this later), all sorts of drinking accessories from mardi gras beads to shot glasses to like 10 different types of wine openers. Streamers, post cards, giant random inflatable things, and of course, an entire section of UK stuff. Let's be honest though, what establishment in Lexington does not carry the full line of UK stuff?
Seriously this is kind of a fun place to go if you're a little buzzed (shhh you're not supposed to do that) and play with all the fun shiny things they have everywhere.
Basically imagine if you combined a liquor warehouse, half of a grocery store, and a Party City, you'd have Liquor Barn.
And now onto the important stuff: the booze.
This is the part where I pretend to know what I'm talking about, but really I'm kinda just repeating the stuff my roommate (who does this for a living) is saying ;)
So white wines go bad if they are more than two years old. This makes it kind of a problem that a good chunk of the white wines were from 2008.
The selection of high end California reds was pretty lacking, and so was the selection of white Burgundys.
They do however have a decent selection of Chardonnay.
The beer selection is pretty decent, but that doesn't matter so much to me because I'm not a beer drinker.
Oh and you better know your wine regions if you want to get wine here. Cause it's laid out by country. So if all you know is the name of the wine you want but not where it's from...uhh yeah good luck with that. And the staff isn't always going to be able to help you....
In fact speaking of the staff...one time I went in there and asked for a recommendation and I can't even remember what they told me, but it was such crappy bullshit. I think that's why I forgot. The terrible tainted wine made my brain bleed and forget the badness of it all.
Oh but one thing is kind of cool is it's open til 10. Idk maybe it's normal around here (you can freakin buy beer in the gas station til 2:30am!! omg you cannot do that in DC or MD.)
So if I want to get my scotch on (mmm scotchy scotch scotch) I don't have to plan to stock up by 6pm.
(PS if you want a great wine...Mer Soliel Silver. $24 bucks and delicious. DELICIOUS. Drink it!!)
(PPS I swear I was not drunk while I wrote this.)
