"Liquor Lyle's, a beloved institution, closed its doors in 2021 amid the pandemic. Known for its lively atmosphere and community feel, it will be missed by many locals who enjoyed its unique charm and camaraderie." - Joy Summers

"Open since 1963 Liquor Lyle’s, on Hennepin near Franklin Avenue, has announced it won’t be reopening. Instead, the institution, known for its quickly served 2-for-1 drinks specials, bar food, and a constantly turning jukebox is up for sale. The bar is one of several iconic dives of Minneapolis, neighborhood institutions that have served generations of drinkers: musicians, comics, shift workers, and late-night twenty-somethings looking to leave with company. The round bar, red vinyl booths, and blessedly dim lighting were holdovers from another era that remained mostly static even as the neighborhood around it changed. For plenty of Minneapolis residents, drinking at Lyle’s was something of a rite of passage, with low prices and power happy hours where servers could make the remarkable feat of serving two full turns of doubled-up drinks to the entire dining room." - Joy Summers

I went during their late night happy hour (2 for 1 on all drinks and a VERY fair food menu) and absolutely loved the place. The outside doesn't give away just how spacious it is on the inside with a very large diner-style full circle (oval) bar in the front middle that seats probably 40-50 people. It was very packed but didn't feel crowded, loved the upbeat atmosphere, the bartenders were very homey and friendly. Great place to go solo or with a group of friends. Absolutely will be back!

This is a classic dive that has been open for generations. My father and his friends used to drink here, so the continuity feels special when my friends and I drink here. If you're the kind of person who needs to have natural light then tread carefully, there are no windows. But there is plenty of charm and drinks seem to always be on 2-for-1 pricing. I would guess nine out of every ten visits this is the case for me. The food is pretty good too. As long as you're looking for something fried. My roommate goes crazy for the mini corndogs. I'm a big fan of the chicken tenders and their wings. The back room with pool, darts, golden tee, and two massive projector screens is a fantastic touch.

My favorite place to go for a late night drink after a hard day, or a hung over brunch spot after a long night. Super laid back. Great staff. Food is always good, and they have a great happy hour with two for one drinks. I recommend the bloody Mary. One of the only places I will order a bloody. The wings are delicious as are the burgers, and breakfast is served all day.

This is one of my favorite bars in Minneapolis. They got darts, pool and skeet ball in the back. Their happy hour is one of the best I have ever seen. It is a bit of a dive bar. There is no such thing as an average customer here. I've seen every kind of person from every age bracket in the bar nearly every time I have been here.

What a great bar to have on Hennepin. Technically a dive bar; but clean and not gross at all. Every time I go, there are interesting and eclectic people. A mix of business people, neighborhood people, workers, and everything in between. The bartenders aren't always the most attentive; but they get it done. And the 2-fer-1's are a great deal. Updated bar-food menu is what you expect, and always solid. Good spot to drop in for one (which is two), and do some people watching. Who knows who you might run into?!?! A Minneapolis must-visit.

One of my fave places. Great staff, great bar food and a nice selection of beers. They have a house brew on tap . . . Lyle's Brew. Sometimes i like a lighter beer if I am feeling fool. Goes down really nice with heavy food. Good crowd and they don't tolerate any obnoxious twatwaffles. Safe place for women alone or in small groups.

Super chill atmosphere with reasonably priced drinks, and the best fries! Besides the 2 for 1's, my favorite feature is the digital jukebox. It's fun to see the kind of songs people choose. Very cool place to unwind with friends at!
