How the Bakers Against Racism Bake Sale Mobilized Pastry Chefs Across America | Eater

"A Bethlehem, Pennsylvania coffee roastery co-owned by Melanie Lino, who sold baked goods under her Made by Lino label and raised over $2,400 for local organizations fighting systemic injustice; the shop’s rapid sellout exemplified the grassroots energy and local impact generated by the decentralized fundraiser." - Meghan McCarron

Amazing atmosphere! The staff is incredibly attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The owners are really cool guys. I have to say their coffee has a unique and flavorful taste that stands out. I love their handmade cups, made by a local artist. Another plus is that their baked cookies are really good. Fun fact, this is the only place I’ve found that offers pumpkin spice out of season, which is awesome since I’m an October baby. Last but not least, this shop proudly supports local artists.

Google
Lit Cafe is literally my go-to spot whenever I’m meeting a friend. The coffee? Always on point. Seriously, it’s consistently great—rich, smooth, and just the right kick. The vibe of the place is something else too. It’s warm, cozy, and somehow still really cool. The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel like you’ve been going there forever, even if it’s your first time. What I love most is how the whole place just flows. The decor, the music, the people—there’s this unspoken harmony that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Even the other customers seem to be in sync with the vibe—everyone’s just chill and cool. Highly recommend if you want great coffee and even better energy!

Google
Lit Coffee is always my favorite cafe to visit! Whether it’s to grab a pastry to go, or to study for a few hours, the atmosphere, staff, and quality is always amazing. It also does an amazing job of promoting community events and goods. The ricotta toast is my favorite!

Google
A very nice coffee shop in little Bethlehem, PA! About a 5-10 minute walk from Lehigh University, this coffee is some of the best I have had in a while. I had a hot spiced bourbon latte, and it was incredible! The pastries looked delectable, but I didn’t try them so I can’t speak to that, but definitely will be having one next time. They also have farm fresh eggs, kombucha, tea, and matcha. The barista I spoke with was delightful and very helpful. Inside there are plenty of seating choices and some beautiful handmade pottery. Overall, a great coffee shop for a morning beverage, afternoon pick me up, or study/work spot.

Google
This is a very cozy place with lots of tables and seating for studying. They seem to sell a lot of local merchandise and baked goods! I regret getting the matcha latte this place is likely more known for their coffee. The matcha latter taste very watered down I would not recommend. The scone tasted very healthy but it was not too sweet which is nice.

Google
Exceptional espresso with tons of flavor and zero bitterness. The almond and date scone was very well made and tasty as well. Their coffee and their coffee beans they roast in house are some of the best in the area and one of my favorites. Too bad I went in on early Monday and they did not have any beans in stock sadly :( will have to get it another time. Worth the 30 minute trip for me. Highly recommend. One thing to note is that you have to pay for parking either on the side parking lot or on street on back but it's very cheap like 2.50 or something for 2 hrs.

Google
Lit coffee roastery and bakeshop is one of the better coffee places here in Lehigh valley. I came here today on a beautiful cold Friday winter morning to get some coffee to warm myself up and I absolutely loved everything about this place. It feels very cozy, warm, comfortable and homey. They have a great menu with regular items and also seasonal items too. They bake all their baked goods at home so it's all fresh. I got their vanilla late and it was actually pretty good. They have a great pastry menu. The staff are also amazing people and they are very kind. Overall, I loved the place and I would definitely recommend it 10/10.

Google
horrendously expensive. basically a scam. $15 for a sandwich and it looks like this, with no sides or anything that comes with it. the sandwich is overcooked and definitely not worth the price Edit: lmao they responded. I mean whatever you say, but pictures and tastes won't lie. Not an Arby's fan but if you want to compare yourself to Arby's then so be it. There are a dozen places similar to your size and style in the area that sell sandwiches taste better and cheaper than yours

Yelp
So this place was super chill and had great coffee. I'm not really a person who tries new stuff when it comes to my coffee unless it sounds really really good. But this time I saw a mint mocha coffee that was seasonal and I just had to try it and I'm glad I did cause it was amazing. The 2 people who were working the counter were awesome and pretty fast . I loved that it wasn't super busy and the lighting gave the place a good vibe.

Yelp
I like this place! Fun and eclectic! Great coffee roasted fresh. If you're lucky you can smell the roast waft out over the greenway, it smells like a frosted chocolate fudge pop-tart that's like halfway burnt cause your dad maxed the toaster setting and you weren't cognizant enough to see that a change had been made so now your pop tart is charred but at least it smells good. Great service.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop ambiance where they roast Monocacy brand coffee. You can actually see the coffee roaster toward the back of the coffee shop. It's also a bakeshop, although baked goods were brought in from another bakery. I bought cup of hot coffee to go, which was okay.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful ambience, sustainable practices, and a great location to meet a friend for coffee. Love their pastries. They have some savory options as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Super friendly for everyone. The staff are so nice and helpful. I loved my iced tea and the pastries are heavenly. Def no pressure to leave if you're enjoying your food, drinks, etc. Wonderful place!

Yelp
Lit is truly a staple of the Southside Bethlehem scene. They support Southside small businesses so well and are a shining example of why small businesses should be supported. They roast their own coffee (Shoutout to Mike & Dan with Monocacy Coffee), bake their own pastries (Shoutout to Lino with Made by Lino), and do both so incredibly well. The pastries are a bit pricey, but that's because they are so far and above any danish from Starbucks or muffin from Dunkin. The coffee is arguably the best I've ever had. I'm super into coffee, I make my own espresso drinks at home, and Lit coffee is always my favorite to use. The staff is so incredibly personal, the owners are true Bethlehem icons, and you will not be disappointed giving Lit a try. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Long live Lit!

Yelp
I ordered ahead: IRON MAN beans ( to be ground) it was ready when I arrived... the staff was very accommodating & friendly! *** I use this roast for my at home espresso machine !!! very good

Yelp
The best coffee in south side Bethlehem. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
AMAZING options here for vegans!! We tried three of the four vegan options. The pain au chocolat, savory croissant, and sourdough pastelito were all delicious. My oat milk latte was stellar as well. This is my favorite cafe in Bethlehem so far. Excellent place!!!
google avatar

Leah F.

Yelp
Adorable coffee cafè! Spacious room...great decor...and plenty of vegan and gluten free baked options to go with your tea or coffee ! I def plan on returning when I'm looking to relax with a nice cup of coffee !

Yelp
It's about time Bethlehem! A genuine, non-commercialized coffee shop! This little coffee shop is adorable and eclectic . I can imagine the Lehigh University and Moravian College students love this place, how I wish this existed when I was in college. I hope you like the smell of coffee, I mean it is a coffee shop....because they roast their own beans in house. We got to pick the owners brain a bit about the process and it's very cool to watch it happen in real time. Oh, and that smell!!! They have several different rotating roasts daily and make your standard variety of drinks such as lattes, Americano's and cappuccinos. They have some delightful looking pastries to chose from as well. On my visit I sampled too macaroons which were delicious. My iced salted caramel latte was outstanding and not overly sweet. Only one downside here, parking! It's south Bethlehem so you probably already understand the parking situation sucks. Hopefully you can snag a metered street spot close by, it's worth the walk!

Yelp
The best part of this coffee house is the atmosphere and it is pretty wonderful. I spent quite a bit of time here the other day working on my computer, sipping tea and eating a pastry and people watching. Love the cozy couches in the front. They make the people watching easy and it is nice and bright there. I thought my Chai tea to be only okay and the Cinna Pecan bread was really dry and heavy. Kind of wish I had tried one of their cookies instead.
google avatar

Amelia D.

Yelp
Loved this coffeehouse. We had wonderful tea, coffee and brownies! The saffron chai latte was perfectly spicy.

Yelp
I love Lit, so much. Second home status, for sure. They have great coffee and amazing baked goods-- the sweet *and* savory empanadas, and the compost cookies in particular are unmissable, plus the breakfast sandwiches on Fridays and Saturdays. The people who work here are so incredibly friendly. You don't have to come too regularly for too long before they recognize you and greet you like a friend. I love, too, that they support the local community; this is one of the establishments in Bethlehem that offers a discount for Food Co-op members! And I also love the art on the walls, which is often feminist or social justice-themed. The only thing to know is that parking in the area is very rigorously enforced and it is super easy to get a parking ticket. This place is an absolute gem in Bethlehem and any day that I get to spend doing some work here while enjoying their delicious snacks and feeling cozy is a day I look forward to.

Yelp
This review is for Sarah at Sweet Doe Bakery. Sarah doesn't have a storefront but she bakes for Lit who displays her vegan pastries. She does wedding cakes as well and did mine this month. Sarah is easygoing, nice, flexible and reasonable to work with. We went with her Queen Bee cake which was the lavender buttercream vegan cake which was perfect for our lavender centric wedding. Between me and several of my friends, we were the only vegans in a room of non vegans and everyone LOVED that cake! I am all for supporting small business and aside from VT in the area, it's nice to have other vegan baking options like Sarah in the neighborhood! Oh, and Lit is pretty cool too! :-) I'd dare call it Lit but I unfortunately and fortunately think that's been used too many times!

Yelp
Lit is great, they use Monocacy Coffee beans which they roast in house. Typically, I pick up bags of Monocacy Coffee to have at home. I have not had a bad baked good there either, special shout out to the chocolate chip cookies, they are to die for. The only downside of lit for me is that there is only one size of cup but that is a fairly small in the grand scheme of things.

Yelp
This place is called Lit for a reason! While recently visiting Bethlehem, I was in need of an afternoon pick-me-up and turned to Yelp to help me out. Lit seemed nice, so I decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did! I was able to easily secure nearby street parking and make my way to Lit. Upon entering, I saw several students studying, but it was a quiet and calming environment. If I lived nearby, I would definitely come here to work! I decided to try a coffee and one of their baked goods. You know how at a lot of coffee shops the baked good are subpar, random snacks that you eat out of necessity? That is definitely not the case at Lit. I decided to try their massive chocolate chip cookie on a recommendation from staff. This cookie was BOMB. It had hints of brown butter, large chocolate rounds throughout and a healthy sprinkling of salt to round out the sweetness. I would literally go back just for the cookie! The coffee was equally delicious and affordable. Absolutely try Lit if you're in the need for coffee, a snack, and/or a quiet place to study or work. The staff is warm and welcoming, the environment is well maintained, and they have a variety of options, including gluten free and vegan baked goods.

Yelp
Lit is the most outstanding eatery in Bethlehem. The unique and delicious empanadas, scones, and pastries are made with organic ingredients in both sweet and savory flavors. Whether you have a group meeting or event or a group of 2 or less, there are seats for you and also relaxing spaces with couches and puzzles etc! I have had many meals here with family, friends, colleagues. Wonderful atmosphere, service, and coffee. I highly recommend Lit.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Best pour over in Bethlehem! Time after time, they have a rotating menu of fresh single origin beans roasted in-house to perfection. I recommend anything as a pour over, black.

Linda A.

Yelp
The best coffee in the Lehigh Valley! And if that isn't enough, their delicious homemade baked goods, assortment of teas, and artisan craft gifts are sure to delight. Great atmosphere and wonderful owner and staff. Amazing treasure!!!

Yelp
I'm a big coffee fan. Heck, I've even been to Seattle and spent a fair amount of my time there trying out coffee at various establishments. I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur, but I know a few things... Unlike Saxby's (which I do enjoy), Lit brews/sells local coffee (Monocacy Coffee Co) along with some small vegan-friendly treats (Sweet D'Oh). Macaroons are made on site by one of the owners (word on the skreet is, they are delicious). This is definitely a place to try out at least once. And if you don't like it, there are other coffee houses' in town that might better suit your taste. Size wise, there's plenty of room to sit down solo or with friends and enjoy the time. It's calm an casual. No need to rush out. The Lit location is near Lehigh University, but not right next to it (IE Saxby's) so it gets less crowded (meaning that there's a 95% chance seating will always be available). Local vendors come on the weekends to sell their products which range from crafts, to jewelry to funky-looking mushrooms. Personal Recommendation: Vegan Pear scone w/ chamomile

Yelp
I lost my "soft opening" virginity with this one (lingered on the first day of operation), and what a place for the deflowering! Having passed by this smart little establishment on 3rd Street numerous times, I was thrilled that Lit Coffee Roastery and Bakeshop finally opened, before I bid my farewells to the Lehigh Valley. Lit brings a much-needed higher-end coffee alternative to South Bethlehem, hereby vanquishing the convenient but mediocre Saxby's nearby. The narrow, deep storefront lives up to its "Lit" name, feeling much brighter than it actually probably is, and thus more inviting. And the Bound for Glory brew (from Monocacy Roasters) is as good as or better than anything at The Joint, north of the river. High-end though it feels, the prices seem quite reasonable, including the "bakes", which are sweet and savory. Bagels include homemade jellies, with interesting offerings like blackberry basil or Meyer lemon. Cookies like the chocolate chip sea salt offer a nice salty twang to offset the saccharine. One particular novelty is that Lit offers an Aeropress option, which essentially delivers Espresso-style in an Americano serving. I haven't encountered Aeropress at too many coffeeshops, except to purchase the entire contraption. It's refreshing to see small businesses who are comfortable introducing this process to a bigger demographic, along with the more familiar French Press and Chemex. They also make the roasting process fully visible to their customers...neat! I hope the owners at Lit aren't underselling themselves with these prices! And, much as I love the space, the seating is a bit sparse. Plug access is average, wifi is just fine, but there's relatively little seating considering the size. If Lit gets as popular as it deserves to be, this could prove a problem, and while it won't hurt their product, it will probably force a lot more people to purchase the to-go option (in cardboard or plastic cups), which is a shame. I hope they furnish it a bit further, which might make it more crowded but also more bustling...far more suitable for the sort of urban sophistication South Bethlehem needs, and Lit Coffee Roastery confidently fulfills.

Yelp
We stopped in today to check it out. Good coffee. They roast their own Lehigh U students and townies cute and eclectic. Comfy sofas and art for sale. The roaster is right their in the back of cafe. They have a holiday wreath making party on Nov 12. 2-5 pm complete with drinks and desserts and local produce
google avatar

Yelp
Great vegan options, great coffee, friendly and chill staff. Stoked on their safety measures/good masking habits. Can't beat em!
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Tasty beverages, mellow and comfortable atmosphere, got a lot of work done. Their house blends are smooth and peppy. Owners are prioritizing local producers and manufacturers, fair-trade beans, and sustainable methods. If you want to see more of this in Bethlehem, come support these people!

Yelp
I wanted to find a coffee shop around a restaurant I ate at for lunch. Using Google Maps, I discovered this place that was super close and was pleasantly surprised upon walking in. It immediately felt super homey and I noticed how the inside is super quirky and cute. The staff is friendly and they made some good coffee. I got a 12 oz. drip with almond milk and was able to add honey and cinnamon for only $2.25--a good price for a hot cup on such a cold day. Overall I definitely enjoyed this place and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This is hands down the best coffee shop in Bethlehem. Amazing baked goods and in-house roasted coffee. Almost every time I go I can't resist getting a macaroon. I've tried a few other treats and I can't decide what I like best! The atmosphere is awesome with plenty of space to sit and work or hang out with some friends. And they have a table with handmade items from local artists. They also have a CSA pick up and a small market in season on Saturdays. It's so great having them as part of the community. I recommend the cortado with a little bit of honey. And pair it with a salted chocolate chip cookie or a for a vegan option, a blood orange chocolate cookie. So good!!
google avatar

Mansha S.

Yelp
My first time there today. Tried the iced mocha and it was strong and good! My husband loved his iced latte. We will be back. Seating area was closed but looked super cute

Jill W.

Yelp
Awesome...I do not know why my post says awful but it was supposed to say AWESOME!! (Auto correct strikes again..) It is certainly far from awful ..it's wonderful!!
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Wow, what a great place. Creative and Quality, you don't see that that often. Great look and great layout and awesome quality. I met a business friend & we both had a great experience!
google avatar

Yelp
First time stop by walk in , I was order cafe latte and vegan brownie with beet ( super soft and taste) nice clean environment, also good for rest and chat with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
The best! Was on the freeway ready to pass Allentown altogether but yelped coffee and ended up here. My surprise was the AMAZING baked goods they have here. Straight out of a magazine and so good. Gluten free options too and yummy! Really nice young folks with big smiles and friendly service.
google avatar

Yelp
A great addition to the South Side. While they're not open on Monday's, Lit never ceases to disappoint with their eclectic bakery items and coffee selection. Prices are fairly similar to any coffee shop but it doesn't seem as though there are options for different size drinks. The atmosphere at Lit is calm and casual. I love that they have a couch section at the front of the shop for chatting. I always enjoy looking through their table of art work for sale.
google avatar

Allie L.

Yelp
Great coffee shop in south side Bethlehem. One complaint- they don't have soy milk and they were out of chai when I tried to order a chai latte. But the baristas are nice and the space is inviting.

Dina V.

Yelp
This coffee shop/bakery is a beautiful little gem in the Lehigh Valley. The owners are kind, open hearted, intelligent and creative. They are civic minded and dedicated to making a space that is safe, comfortable and inviting to everyone. Even through this pandemic they have chosen people over profit and took care of their people by creating protective procedures to help keep staff and customers safe and healthy. The food options and coffee are always delicious and inspiring. I wish I had more time to go every week or lived closer that I could go everyday.
google avatar

Malini R.

Yelp
Lit immediately makes you feel cozy and at home the second you enter! Their delicious coffees and baked goods are better than anywhere else, and the staff are very kind. With various types of seating you can come here to do work, grab a snack, chat with friends, anything. One of my favorite spots to study or do work during my time at Lehigh.
google avatar

Lynn G.

Yelp
Really cute coffeehouse on the Southside! They also have good baked goods and sandwiches. Atmosphere is very artsy. Space is decently big for being a coffeehouse. They also sell local arts and crafts. Coffee is very good and they roast the beans on site. Staff is very friendly! Highly recommend!!!

Palmer F.

Yelp
Best coffee in a town of some great local roasters. Socially conscious, ethical, supportive of local artists. Great signs in the windows, too!!! I buy beans from home here and they never disappoint!
google avatar

cara v.

Yelp
Great coffee shop with a great vibe. Amazing selection teas and vegan pastry. They have a great selection of small crafts to buy and great art on the walls
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Don't let the prices fool you. The coffee is very good. Nice lighter coffee. Friendly staff as well, but more important, really good coffee. Will be back in the morning before heading home.
google avatar

Molly W.

Yelp
Lit is definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in the Lehigh Valley. The place has a welcoming vibe, excellent drinks and the baked goods are incredible. The staff cares and are passionate about their product. This place holds plenty of events to bring together the community. All around, Lit is just wonderful and worth a daily visit!
google avatar

Jimmy W.

Yelp
Espresso!!!! Rich and fantastic! A hint of bitter but very smooth and soft. Only two dollar which is a great price. Much better than the other coffee shop in the area such as saxby. Similar quality comparing ti the joint at the northside, but cheaper.

Kai D.

Yelp
Lit is an amazing local small business with phenomenal coffee, baked goods, and employees. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Cimrin B.

Yelp
Wonderful new addition to South Bethlehem, which was really lacking a proper coffee house. The space gives off a peaceful and open vibe, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. There is constantly an array of baked goods in the shelf, from freshly made cakes, scones, cookies, and empanadas. Vegan options available which is always a plus. I love how they are trying to integrate themselves into the community and work with other businesses, such as with Bonn Brewery as well as hosting farmers markets on Saturdays. One thing I do think they can improve on is the layout--possibly put in more tables instead of having all the open space. Regardless, whenever I come back to Lehigh I will definitely be making a stop at Lit.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I just stopped in here today for the first time. I had a decaf coffee and a vegan scone and both were delicious and perfectly priced. I took everything to go, but it seems like a great place to spend some time in if you have the time. The service was also very friendly. Another great addition to south side.
google avatar

Joyce D.

Yelp
This place has all kinds of seating along with great coffee and a good assortment of teas. There are savory choices such as sandwiches and salads along with fab sweet trays! The vegan options are not limited to baked goods. The hours are great when you need a pick me up! A lot of coffee shops close early afternoon but not Lit!!! You just need to go!!!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Terrific, in-shop roasted coffee. This is the place! I come regularly for the cortado to get my day started. A comfortable coffeeshop just a stone'sv throw from Lehigh's campus. Definately worth a regular stop!!
google avatar

Mikaila S.

Yelp
Very good coffee, and they typically have vegan options for baked goods which is dope. A cool space, but not too much seating.
google avatar

Acey S.

Yelp
I love this place. Really didn't expect much at all-my mistake. I had an aeropress of the Tanzanian roast and it was maybe one of the best cups of coffee I've had. Ever. Pleasant knowledgable staff.
