Lithuanian Bakery & Kafe

I love trying new places, this one was a gem. I ordered the special, German Goulash with potato salad. Comfort food at its best! It is not very big and even though it was just after lunch when I can, there was a fairly constant stream of people. Service was excellent and the food was also. There is ample parking and the bathroom was very clean.

the service was absolutely amazing. the food was really good if a little simple. the desserts were yummy. all in all I bet this is a consistently delicious place with staple foods soups and a few specialties.

I absolutely love this place. it reminds me of the little lithuanian cafes that we would visit in chicago growing up. the staff is always kind and the food is always delicious and clearly homemade. Absolutely love the cabbage stew! if you're looking for something that's truly original and different, highly recommend. there's not a huge number of choices, but there's enough and they change things up every day... Oh! You can get fresh baked bread and pastries.

Came for lunch on a Monday, and they were quite busy for such a small place. I love that it's family owned, and you can taste the love that goes into the food. The temperature inside the dining room was a little warm on a hot summer day, but i took my lunch to go, so that didn't matter too much. The prices are lower than many other sandwich shops. The menu stands out to me because you can get a Braunschweiger or a double PB&J, or if not in the mood for a sandwich, you can get a variety of sausages with sauerkraut or red cabbage. My absolute favorite is on the dessert menu... Napoleonas Torte. A staple from my childhood that is so delicious and unlike any other dessert. Creamy, buttery, flaky, and tangy. Mmm.

Friendly bakery. Their number one seller is their torte, but it must remain cold so we were unable to purchase it as we had to go elsewhere after. Instead we tried the apple pastry and the cherry pastry. Both were good. The inside setting is not that inviting, but it's ok if you are looking for a quick meal with no frills. The display case did not have that many assortment.

Feels like going to my papa's place years ago. Pop in for bread. Soup-- yes please. Staff is delightful. They helped my husband order what he wanted to try. You can taste the homemade potluck nanas famous recipe level food. Just a quiet family spot for lunch....or a half dozen (phenomenonal) apricot tortes.

I have enjoyed dining at the Lithuanian Bakery & Kafe spanning 17 years. It regularly offers a casual and atmosphere where you can choose from an assortment of sandwiches, soups and desserts.

The Napolean is out of this world. It freezes well and is a completely unique dessert.

As a born and raised Omaha girl, anytime I return a visit to the Lithuanian bakery is always on my list. Was only in town for a short weekend so made sure to stop by early on a Saturday morning to go in and grab my torte. The location itself is very unassuming but just as I remember it from many years ago. Lots of parking, open space, a few baked goods in the cases and along the wall and small area for café seating if you're grabbing something to eat inside. That wasn't my mission that day though, and I went straight for the torte. The guy working was very nice, answered my questions, pointed me in the right direction and rang me up all in record time. The torte of course is always delicious and the hardest part is stopping yourself from eating way more than you should in one sitting. If for some unknown reason, you haven't stopped in and tried it yourself, I recommend going and grabbing yourself a slice, or a whole torte, next time you're in the area.

It was a decent experience. Not sure if I would run back but the pastries tasted pretty good.

We stopped by here on a whim. They had a large assortment of strudels (in addition to other pastries). We got an apricot one to try and were very happy. We will definitely be going back. It's always nice to support a small business too!

Just a quick stop, because I'm always on the lookout for a source for Latvian black bread. They had several types of bread, including pumpernickel but I went with a basic sourdough rye. It's fabulous - dense, chewy, full of flavor - so even though it wasn't what I was looking for, I'd definitely be a loyal customer if this were home. There's a small cafe seating area and a bakery case full of things I wanted to try, but saved thst for next time!

A Miriam of reasonably priced bakery goods. I like the kolaches though this is not the main reason for going here. Their veggie sandwich cabbage soup and tuna melt are our faves. My parents often wanted to dine here because of the sausage. Lots of good reasons to come.

I am going to bump up my review by a star. The fresh rye bread we got was pretty good. I like caraway seed and enjoyed it a lot (there is a LOT of caraway seed). I probably ate the entire loaf by myself in 5 days (and it was still softer than the "1 Day old Bread" we bought there). The Rye bread was definitely on the lot side...more of the mix you would get a grocery store but tasted better. Most of the color seemed from baking rather than from the flour.

Can't commit on other food or dine in experience, but whenever we've had the torte for friends/family to try, they've loved it.

Unless you've grown up with a Lithuanian grandmother like I did, you truly don't know what being fed is all about. I know, I know... Your German grandmother, or your Indonesian grandmother, or your Chinese grandmother... Trust me, I know they also took great pleasure in giving you more food then should be provided to an army battalion... but in my experience, and for the purposes of this review, you're gonna just have to take my word for it... heck, for a culture that refers to beer as skysta duona (liquid bread), IYKYK. Anyway, we found ourselves in Omaha the past couple of summers, road trip in across the country, and pit stopping at my brothers new home, to which he moved during the pandemic. as an aside, it's kind of funny the difference of what a couple hundred grand can buy in Omaha versus what it can buy in Southern California. (Spoiler alert: you can't buy a home for a couple hundred grand in Southern California) but it's always a pleasure to see my kid brother, his beautiful wife and my adorable nieces. As luck would have it, his home is only about a mile from the Lithuanian Bakery and Kafé. I made this discovery one morning heading out for donuts as a surprise for the kids, only to discover that for whatever reason, I had struck out on two different donut shops that were sold out early. In desperation, I stopped at this bakery, and it turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done in Omaha. The pastries, strudel, and other breakfast treats are divine. On subsequent trips, I sampled their Reuben sandwich... One of the best I've ever had... the braunschweiger, the kielbasa. Man, lots of awesome food here. The folks behind the counter are the type of awesome/kind/middle-of-the-country you would expect to find. I have not found a lot of ultra traditional Lithuanian foods on their menu, to be honest. Or maybe I just haven't been there enough? Haven't found Blynais or Kibinai or Šaltibarščiai... but maybe next time I'll ask if they can make them for me special? Like Nana used to.... Iki Pasimatymo!

Always a great service and food is delicious prepared lunch menu. Lithuanian pastry's are a sweet treat.

Very limited assortment. Apple dumpling and cherry turnovers were good but honestly not much different than Arby's turnovers. Staff was friendly. There is a small selection of grocery type items that was interesting.

Wonderful little bakery on a busy street. Staff explained the choices but the breads were not labled. This was hard to decide because of allergies. Strudel delicious and Cranberry walnut bread great when toasted too. We will be back when we are in the area.

Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Menu is a little limited,@, but great quality. Kolaches are the best, but they don't last long. Best choices are the soups, sausages, and the daily specials. I live the cabbage soup and I don't even care for cabbage! They also have great homemade saurkraut. Highly recommended.

Yummy food and the friendliest service around! I had a soup and sandwich combo and it was delicious and so fresh.

I ordered a small vanilla apricot napolean torte from here through goldbelly. It was a bit expensive $70. But the cake was really good. it came refrigerated with gel ice. Layers of flour filled with sweet cream/gel. At room temperature it was slightly sweeter for me. Refrigerated, sweetness was perfect.

The people working there were friendly. The food is very good and my lunch partner and I left with some extra bakery to share with our families.

Better than advertised. I pass through Omaha for work once in a while, and almost everyone mentioned this place to me. I finally got there on the last trip, and it's a modest, austere space with inexpensive turnovers. They have a deep freezer by the register that's full of frozen cakes. OK, I thought, a frozen cake. Why not. Let me tell you that after a brief defrost that these are the best napoleons that you'll ever have. Layer after layer of handmade paper-thin shortbread, perfectly balanced by an apricot jam and ubiquitous custard. It was so good that I picked up a second torte on my drive back through in the other direction. Some things are perfect as-is, and I'm glad that Lithuanian Bakery is holding the line on this family recipe. It's a national treasure.

I had been thinking about going here for some time and finally stopped in. It was towards the end of the day, but they still had many pastry items to choose from. The prices were very, very reasonable. The employee who assisted me was very nice. He was able to answer all my questions. I will be back to try other goodies (earlier in the day next time).

So I took a bite of each when it was cold because I can't wait and even when it's COLD it's DELICIOUS. The strudel specifically- they've got a bunch of flavors and so choose your fighter and get ready for an adventure. Honestly, I bet everything gets kicked up a notch if you warm them up real quick in the oven, which I'm totally going to do after this review. The best part is is that it's SO affordable. I think a slice of strudel and the apple dumpling came out to be $2.75? Plus, they take card for orders under $5; I've been burnt before by small shops that prioritize cash when you only buy a thing or two. Super happy I gave this a chance! Will go for lunch food next time!

This is a wonderful little place to have a very, very nice lunch. The staff there are so friendly and all of their products are so very, very good and really the prices are very decent. My mother and I love to go there for lunch and usually it's around $20-$25 for both of us to enjoy soup, a good sized sandwich and a beverage. Sometimes we walk out with some bakery items too. --- all delicious! It's just a nice little "neighborhood spot" that many locals come to for lunch, fresh bread and bakery. Thank you for being this wonderful, friendly, LOCAL business!!!!!

Great people and wonderful food. I like anything that they make. Been there often and look forward to what's cooking for each time.

Mom and Pop style cafe and bakery with a case full of sweets and a smaller and simple menu for dining in. I've stopped in a few times to pick up pastry items and always received great service from the staff. The tables are often full of retirees reading the paper and having coffee with a bite to eat with family or friends. It's a charming neighborhood stop for some simple food and a yummy pastry.

Great deserts/baked goods. Better than homemade, because you don't have to make them.

Best napoleon cake ever! I've moved out of state now, but every time I'm back in Omaha, I MUST stop by and grab a napoleon cake from here. LOVELY bakery staff, wonderful business, amazing cakes. Literally nothing to complain about. Please do yourself a favor and pick up one of their cakes! Original apricot is SUPREME, but I'll have to give the other flavors a try one of these days and report back. Definitely a "best of Omaha" business!

We came for breakfast at 9am. From out of town and thought it would be nice to give a local place our business. The food was cold and old. No lights on or inviting demeanor about the place. Won't go back again.

Oh my goodness. This place is a hidden gem, and I wish I lived closer. Being Lithuanian, we always have napoleonas at family functions. Usually it was a relative who labored for hours and hours to create a delicious cake that would be devoured in less than five minutes. Once I found out that this place existed, I knew I had to try their napoleonas torte. It is DIVINE. Hands down, one of the best napoleonas tortes that I have tasted to date. Naturally, I purchased two tortes to take home with me- one original, one chocolate. As soon as I found out that they deliver nation-wide, I began down the slippery slope of ordering them for all sorts of occasions- birthdays, holidays, work functions, christmas presents. They really are that amazing. Just thinking about this is making me hungry for more napoleonas...

Ordering was very easy and there was even a discount coupon -- which I appreciate very much as still very expensive. I sent this to my sister in Colorado. We were born and raised in Omaha and our grandparents lived at the corner of 40th & Q for many decades so I am familiar with the Lithuanian Bakery. I pray my sister knows how special the torte (and she) is -- we've been estranged for many years. I will probably not hear from her but I am hopeful she and her family will enjoy it. Next year I plan on ordering one for my family to enjoy. Merry Christmas!

Stopped by for something sweet after visiting Yamato Sushi next door. I've heard great things about their Napoleon tortes, but I wasn't looking to spend $4 for what looked like a really small slice. Instead, I grabbed a HUGE double chocolate chip cookie ($1.50) for my friend, an apricot log (50¢) and a slice of apple strudel ($1.35). The apricot log was interesting - chewy and covered in coconut shavings. Pretty good. But oh my god, the apple strudel was amazing. Doesn't seem impressive at first glance - like it looked like there was barely any apple filling, but it was the perfect amount. If you like flakey, buttery danishes and apples in pastries, you will love this. I am definitely grabbing more than one next time.

Best Reuben I've had... Period. I had the split pea soup as well. Everything feels and tastes authentic, and better than how my grandparents made it. Would recommend to anyone who loves a good pastrami sandwich.

First heard of this place from my pharmacist and after trying their signature torte, I cannot begin to tell you how much I've been missing out on. If you don't know what a torte is, crawl under from the rock you've been living under and try this now! The torte comes frozen and you need to thaw before serving 8 layers of happiness. It's the perfect amount of sweet and the vanilla butter cream and apricot jam complement each other so well! It's a little bit crumbly on the top, otherwise it has an overall dense, almost shortbread like texture. The tortes come in a large and a small size and they also sell individual slices for about $4/slice. Bring this to a party or home to your family and everyone will love you for it! Blown away by their torte, I also read their apple strudel is a winner and I must concur! I came with a friend who doesn't usually enjoy sweets and even he was nodding in approval. The inside has a custard like texture to it and wasn't overly sweet either. It's one of the best apple strudels I've had and for $1.35/slice it's a major steal! They also sell a whole strudel pan for $5.95 which I will probably get the next time I visit, along with a few of their other pastries! Also, here's a link to an article written about them! Delicious!!! I was a little surprised how empty it was. The seating isn't fancy but it servers it's function. I was seated promptly. I ordered the Pastrami and Swiss with seasonal fruit. It was out in good time. The fruit was lovely and all fresh. The Pastrami and Swiss was bliss! So delicious! Portion size was just right. Seriously I'm surprised the place isn't packed. People do come and go for their pastries and bread, I didn't try either of those. I would recommend coming here if you don't want to eat at a chain restaurant and would like to dine on something refreshing. I will be coming back.

This torte has been a family dinner staple for years. When I really wanna wow a dessert dish I bring this! Thank you for making the best dessert in town!

YUM! Cute location. Reasonably priced. Super service. Delicious pastries. I visited with my mom this morning and it was A+ service all the way. We were greeted promptly by the 20-something gentleman with a warm demeanor behind the counter. I ordered a cheese streusel, my mom ordered an apple dumpling (?). Plus two coffees, that was $5.20. Perfect! Said gentleman grabbed our coffees and refilled as needed. My cheese streusel was delicious. And for $0.90, a nice little deal. The perfect price for the perfect breakfast treat. We'll be coming back (to try their torte)!

One of the best places in Omaha!! I love all of their deserts :) the wait staff are all super friendly. this is an omaha gem. i would recommend!!!!!

Ended up here by accident and was happy I did. The gentleman working there was very kind and polite. He was happy to help and answering any questions I had. I stayed and had a slice of their Napoleon tarte, Delicious. He was kind and courteous to each customer I saw come in there. This place is truly a hidden gem.

We went here for lunch but sadly discovered that they only serve menu items between 11-2:30, so we tried the bacon buns, rolls filled with bacon and fried onion, out of the display case instead, which were very tasty. They had soft light chewy bread dough with plenty of bacon for flavor inside. We also had an apple dumpling which had pleasing flaky pastry and tasty apple and, unexpectedly, cherry filling, and we had a poppy seed kolache, which was ok but not great. Maybe that's because it was the end of the day so sort of stale, or maybe we just discovered we don't particularly like poppy seed filling. But overall the experience was positive.

Amazing food but avoiding because of Covid, the have take out but not the same. You feel your in your own universe with great soup coffee and pastries galore

They offer mail order through Goldbelly. I ordered a chocolate raspberry tort, a cranberry bread and a rye bread. First, they mailed the wrong tort. I received the vanilla apricot tort instead of the chocolate raspberry tort. My wife is not a fan of vanilla so it was a waste. It tasted okay, nothing special. Both breads were stale. Heating them in the oven made no difference. BTW, I informed Godbelly about the problem with the order two days ago but they have not responded as of this review.

Just wanted to share a tip for the very best cake I have ever tasted. It is an Apricot Torte from this bakery. It is absolutely delicious, full of apricot and cream and layered in delicate pastry. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Not only is everything they make yummy, their service is old-fashioned gracious....above and beyond! Julie B

Just picked up a Napolean Torte for my son's birthday dessert. It's a perfect dessert - delicious and I believe very authentic. Whenever I bring one to a function, people who know what it is make a beeline for it.

I do enjoy this place. The 3 star rating comes as a result of portion sizes. Preserved a Rueben and potato salad. The food tasted fine but was very skimpy on their portions. Below average in that category. Would be nice to have some traditional artwork or decor. The baked goods are DEFINITELY where the Lithuanian Bakery and Cafe shines! So good!

Very nice people, and amazing food. Would go again. Went for the Nebraska Passport, and would enjoy going again.

We stopped as we passed thru the people were really nice and the bakery and German items reminded us of our favorite German exchange student. Great memories.

Friendly waitress & customer who recommended the Rueben. I want to add the Red Cabbage is great also. We split a sausage combo (bratwurst & knockwurst) also and very favorable sauerkraut For dessert, Vanilla Apricot Torte. Perfection!

The napoleona torte cake was amazing. Next time I'm buying two to go! It's worth the calories and stomach space. We went to both locations. The cake is the same at both. The service was good. The restaurant was clean. The prices are a bit high.

Prior to experiencing the torte and several other fantastic pastries here, I had no idea that Lithuanians had this much to offer. Of course, this could have been based on an experience in Chicago where a friend of mine slept with our Lithuanian cab driver and we ended up getting free fare around the city of Chicago for an entire weekend. That is, until they got into a fight and he dumped us as far from our hotel as you could get without being in Wisconsin. What amazes me about the Lithuanian Bakery is that despite it's popularity and amazing pastries, the prices are excellent. Some local bakeries vary in quality based on when you end up there (later in the day being worse, which sucks for those of us below the age of 70), but the quality here seems to be very consistent.

I stopped in to try the torte and I loved that they had it by the slice. it was frozen but by the time I got home after errands they were defrosted and ready to eat for a post shopping snack! I bought a slice of both the apricot and chocolate torte and was blown away with how delicious they both are! no wonder they have been selling them for years! the café itself - I came in at a strange time but I could tell they had been selling- the pastries looked delicious especially those kolaches! long live the apricot cream cheese and cherry chocolate torte! get some soon for yourself! its across the street from Lighthouse Pizza on Pacific and 74th with its own lovely parking spaces! YUM!

It's easy to have low expectations for the Lithuanian Bakery. They have a late 1980's or early 1990's pastel colored logo, a quaint interior, and their famous Lithuanian Torte ($24) comes in a mass produced box. These signs don't scream amazing, but man, was I wrong! However, after eating this torte, I must say this is the best napoleon I've ever eaten! This torte is so delicious that I want to move to Omaha and eat it everyday.

Five stars for the torte, four for the bread and veggie sandwich, three for the other food items (reuben and soup) and two for atmosphere for a meal. Ask about 'the sauce' to go with the torte... amazing.

I order their napoleonas tortes (vanilla apricot) to be shipped to where I am in CA. I cannot get enough of these tortes. They are DELICIOUS. I'm actually eating one as I'm typing this review. Ordering and getting them shipped is very easy as well and they come still frozen and in perfect condition! Definitely recommend for people who like sweets but not overly sweet items like cake with a ton of frosting.
