Little Bear

"This newcomer to HCMC’s bistro scene greets diners with a cosy dining room that offers both counter and table seating. The theatrical open kitchen is where the alchemy takes place. The menu consists of modern dishes inspired by the chef’s childhood memories and Vietnamese food culture, including cheese and noodles made from scratch in-house. The wine list features a wide range of wines by the glass, covering organic, biodynamic and natural tipples." - Michelin Inspector

I did not make a reservation this time. But I could have a table outdoor. Waiters & waitress were kind and the foods were enjoyable. I assume they have chef's recommendable menu everyday. I like to eat pigeons. This day, they served a whole quail with its heart. It was cooked in rare. I liked it but medium rare would've been fine in my idea, to chew it better. I wish they have some glasses of sake too. There was a mistake at dessert order. And they promised to serve another dessert for free next time. I will visit here again. 2 people ate 10 menus.

I had the pleasure of dining at Little Bear Wine Bar, and I must say, it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a modern yet rustic touch that makes you feel right at home. The menu is incredibly diverse and it is constantly updated. Thank you to the chef for creating unique dishes that provide a truly special experience. Lovely take care from Quan, he so nice and knowledge, He is patient and explains the meaning of each dish. I'm really enjoy at that time

I walk in today, and there's a collaborative event between Chef Kahong Lau and Chef Nhat Duy. The restaurant is fairly full, yet the service is still excellent. My companion and I ordered some items with little portions, such as shrimp tartare, cold tofu, micro pork burger, scallop, green pipis, and uni pasta. 🩷🫶 All of the dishes we ordered were really appealing to my taste, and the ingredients worked quite well together. I am definitely going back to try their daily menu, especially the Uni pasta and shrimp tartare. Thank you, Little Bear team 🐻🐻

Exceptional food, service, and ambience all around. Comprehensive wine list that complemented the dishes served. Tried their mystery wine, which was surprisingly good- a red from China. On to the food. Started off with focaccia which was airy. The accompanying salted butter added some umami. Enjoyed it. Fried oyster were fresh. Batter was light which made it light on the palate. Probably one of my favourite dish. Our group decided to give the pigeon a try. Would totally recommend it. Tender and full of flavour. The fish of the day was the grouper (served with kombu rice in a claypot). Grouper was fresh and the light sauce enhanced its flavour. The ribeye was well cooked to medium rare, but taste wise nothing out of the ordinary. Garlic aioli sauce paired perfectly. The small knife was a nice touch. Ended off with coffee ice cream and caramelised toast. Slightly too sweet for my liking but overall still a well made dessert. Highly recommended spot in Saigon!

Small little place but very cute. Extremely friendly staffs. Food is extra delicious but the portion is so small comparing to price point. But definitely worth visiting. Place is also pet friendly; rsvp and ask for an outside table. They even gave my little dog bowl of water.

Personally I think the biggest issue is the menu design and recipe. I can see the kitchen staff putting in 100% effort trying to deliver good food, the cooking is on point, but the flavor is just ordinary at best, especially for Asian pallet. We ordered some of their cuisine from the set menu and also from the daily special: Shrimp Tartare: ingredient is solid, a big chunk of shrimp sashimi, great texture, but flavor is bland. Fried Oyster: Also great quality oyster and fried to perfection, but the sauce tastes like mayo mixed with pickles, nothing wrong, I just wish the flavor can be stronger. Beef Skewer: this is from the daily special, the menu description says salted egg yolk sauce and some chilli I don't remember, but end up just grilled beef (again perfectly cooked) with garlic, can't taste any salted egg yolk. Grilled Red Snapper Head: also from daily special menu, they grilled the fish head then cook in the pot for quite some time, the fish is fresh and good quality but taste like very mild tom yum… Grilled river prawn: to be honest, any Thailand night market can bring out the same stuff, and the sauce doesn't really compliment the prawns. The kitchen staff obviously can cook but the menu and recipe failed them, yes taste is subjective but with multiple reviews saying similar things, a good chef will take heart towards the reviews that people take time and effort to write.

This was my second visit since they opened. Still love the creativity in the dishes, but a few things need improvement. Some bites were meant to be eaten with your hands, but no wet tissues were provided. A couple of dishes had too much sauce, which covered up the main flavors. The wine list is still quite average and lacks variety. Service felt a bit rushed — dishes came out as they were ready, and the small table made it hard to fit more than two plates at a time. Hoping to see some fine-tuning next time!

Every dishes were extremely well-executed. The flavor was complex but everything works well together. My favorite dishes were shrimp tatare bite, cuttlefish, soft shell crab, and all desserts. Special shout-out to Guava Tartin which might be the best bite I had in HCMC. I hope they get their 1-Michelin star soon. Service was brilliant. Extensive wine list is a plus
