It was a Saturday just like any other. My tennis match ended and i felt that familiar pang of hunger in my stomach that victory alone couldn't satisfy.
A wise young woman, who had already introduced me to the joys of scented candles and the benefits of a Costco card, insisted that i come here. I had to see if her streak would continue.
As i walked in I was struck by the no frills decor with a familiar 1950's nostalgia that just screamed trust.
I placed my order. A picky eater, i was initially intimated by the list of things that come on the burger that i didn't want. As i shamefully asked for a double with nothing on it (just meat and bun) the friendly cashier smiled and said "of course". I got the truffle fries as well. Because I was nice and complimentary of them (or because the batch was almost out) the cashier gave me extra fries. It reminded me lovingly of a 401k employer match. Since i took the order to go, i asked if I could have some ketchup. This, I was told, is a must.
I got a kick out of the soda machine. There was a root beer and cream soda option from a brand i'd never heard of. I had to go for it and went for the cream soda. I left the place feeling cheery
When i settled back at the tennis center to cheer on my teammates, I took the first bite of the burger. It was, in a word, transcendent. It had a perfect medium center that not even Debbie Downer would find objectionable. The lack of condiments I imposed on myself revealed a nice peppery exterior of the patty upon the lips followed by a juicy finish to each bite. The meat to bun ratio was on point and the bun itself could have won an oscar for best supporting actress. It was sturdy enough to handle two good size patties while still being soft enough to enjoy the bite.
I tried the first few fries without dipping into the ketchup. I had to assess if they were strong and independent on their own before determining their readiness to be in a loving relationship. Admittedly, i found the exterior to be crunchier than my typical preference. However the flavor profile was top notch. The dash of salt and the richness of the truffle oil truly made it an experience. It couldn't get any better, right?
Wrong. You know you're confident in your condiment as a burger joint when you brand your ketchup as "catsup". Well it did more than live up to it. It was a delightful combination of tangy and spicy. I couldn't stop eating the fries with it, and i had A LOT of them since they gave me extra. The next time i am there, i am 100% buying one of their catsup bottles they sell at their location.
In summary, when i am anywhere near this establishment i will go out of my way to come by, even if i'm not that hungry.
Life lessons from my journey to Little Burger Burger:
-Show kindness to others, and it tends to be paid back to you
-Don't run away from who you are, even if you're a picky eater.
-If you name your ketchup "catsup" you've got to bring it!
-Nostalgia makes you feel more trusting
-Always order the truffle fries
