5 MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand Spots to Have a Prosperous Lunar New Year

"Sticky rice studded with savory pork and chicken and sweet goji berries is a must-order. Of course, there must be dumplings, and Little Bird's run the gamut from traditional (ha gow) to surprising, with sweet corn, cilantro and shrimp." - Kevin Chau

Little Bird Dim Sum + Craft Beer

"Longtime local restaurateur Jonathan Lee's vision of pairing classic dim sum with local B.C. craft beer was the impetus behind Little Bird, and trendy Kitsilano is the ideal home for this hip lair. Inside, it's contemporary cool—the floors, tables and walls are created in part from recycled chopsticks. It's a classic lineup of dim sum favorites. Sticky rice studded with savory pork and chicken and sweet goji berries is a must-order. Of course, there must be dumplings, and Little Bird's run the gamut from traditional (ha gow) to surprising, with sweet corn, cilantro and shrimp. Supremely fresh, savory and served steaming hot, these dumplings are the definition of comfort food.  As promised, beer is king here." - Michelin Inspector

Google
Really good dim sum here, my party was not disappointed with any of the items. Some highlights for me were the green tea sesame balls, the soup dumplings, BBQ pork buns, vegetarian sticky rice and the crispy bean curd roll. But everything we ordered was great. they also provided an extra order of traditional sesame balls for my birthday. Service was great and the restaurant is very cozy.

The dim sum here is delicious. Each dish is served warm and juicy, accompanied by a flavorful array of condiments—black vinegar, soy sauce, chili oil, and Worcestershire sauce. The dishes arrive in a well-paced order. Table service is excellent, with attentive staff and constant water refills. A satisfying experience!

Google
The dim sum tastes great, though the portions are small. It’s perfect for trying a variety of dishes to sample the flavors. No wonder the restaurant has consistently been awarded the Bib Gourmand. Online reservations are easy to make—definitely worth recommending.

Google
Amazing! Little Bird is the is the premier dim sum experience highlighting the continued awesomeness of Vancouver’s unrivaled Pan Asian food scene and is the ultimate casual lunch spot. Where Little Bird excels the most is its commitment to simple traditional dishes and making them as high quality as possible. The Steamed BBQ Pork Bun is the perfect sweet and savory combination with the most pillowy bao and I cannot recommend that enough. Otherwise, everything in their menu is worth a try. Excited to go back.

My friend booked this reservation, and I’ll admit—I was this close to making a last-minute escape when I realized it was a dim sum spot (not exactly my go-to). But wow, am I glad I stayed! Every dish was packed with flavor, and we ordered up a storm. Safe to say, I’m now a believer. Bravo! 👏🏽

Google
Dimsum was delicious, but it seems like a little bit of fusion or Americanize/Canadaize flavor. The portion was a bit small, so the portion versus price was another consideration.

Google
Fun little patio hang with absolutely delicious dim sum! Michelin star / bib gourmand so I’m not telling you anything you don’t know. Super fast service at a pretty good price. Apparently the patio is dog friendly, so we’ll be back!

We've been long time patrons of Flamingo so we've kept an eye on their newer sister restaurant, Little Bird Dim Sum, for quite a while. But as it's farther away from us, it's taken this long to actually visit. Located on W 4th, Little Bird has a vibe that meets the neighbourhood. The interior is bright but narrow, with mostly smaller tables. The menu has some of the same classic dim sum dishes as Flamingo but there are some items they don't offer while having some dishes we haven't seen at Flamingo. Most dim sum dishes here are smaller than traditional Chinese restaurants but they are also a bit cheaper. We ordered siu mai ($8.5) which had a nice plump filling, cilantro and shrimp dumplings ($8.5), and fun guo ($7) which was an interesting veggie dumpling in a green wrapper. Sticky rice ($10) was a bit larger than the other dim sum dishes and turned out pretty good with the savory filling. The crispy bean curd rolls ($8.5) had a delicately crisp exterior than encased the filling. The pork spareribs ($8) had good flavour but I found some of the pieces to be on the tougher end. Surprisingly, thebest dish we had on this visit was the spring rolls ($7.5). Nice crisp wrapper with a very meaty and juicy filling on the inside. I was a bit sad that they didn't have some of the dishes that we really enjoyed at Flamingo like beef omasum but I think they tried to keep the menu more appealing to the neighbourhood. There's definitely a younger clientele that appears to go here. If you like the dim sum here, I'd definitely suggest trying out Flamingo on Marine as they have many of the same dishes.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place out given the Michelin guide. The dim sum here is a lot less flavorful compared to many of the other Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. Food was solid/mediocre but it wasn't anything to write home about. I'm Asian so I've been to a lot of the dim sum places around Vancouver. Service was also a bit awkward... it's just 2-3 servers constantly moving around but there's not really much passion or excitement going on. They just drop off the plates and don't really explain what anything is. Chrysanthemum Tea was also more on the watered down side and didn't taste like anything for $3.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant serving dim sum and beer - friendly and helpful staff. A good selection of dim sum and dishes came out at a good pace. The beer was good too (pilsner). Overall - OK. Would like to return and try it again on another night. The siu mai is big and flavorful as was the chunky fried squid and shrimp toast. The soy sheet rolls were unevenly cooked - one crisper/browner and the other quite pale. The egg tarts (made to order) were served nice and hot ... but one had a flakey crisp crust while the other was soft/doughy on the sides/bottom (of course, it's the one I had). Uneven cooking in those two items. Everything else good.

Yelp
I first learnt about the restaurant this summer and I'm glad we finally paid a visit for dinner tonight. I'll admit that the Seth Rogen publicity helps push me with the decision. We went for an early dinner at 1730. Among the two of us, we had: - chive & shrimp dumplings, - siu mai - shrimp toasts - crispy bean curd rolls - fried garlic squid - egg tarts We also had a pilsner and a cider. The dishes and their flavours were as authentic as one would expect of good Cantonese dim sum dishes. The egg tarts were baked to order and they came piping hot. We had real and honest (i.e. not pretentious ) dim sums served in a lively trendy neighbourhood restaurant. We decided to walk to dinner tonight and it was worth the 50-minute walk, each way.

Yelp
My friend and I made the trek here on a chilly Sunday evening - it's not the biggest, so definitely make a reservation, since it did start filling up quickly around 6:30pm or so. We weren't the hungriest at the time so we ordered a bunch of smaller things to share: The spare ribs had a nice flavour but tended to be on the tougher side (hard to chew). The black bean sauce was tasty though (and you could tell as soon as the dish arrived how authentic it smelled haha). The pork bun was really big (!) - not the usual type you'd expect to see at a dim sum restaurant, it was more like the big baozi. The bread was a bit bland - not my favourite - but there was a lot of juicy pork as filling. Siu mai was quite good, I liked the overall full/rich flavour, and the shrimp in particular tasted great! The Shanghai xiaolongbao were average at best. The soup smelled very fragrant, but the skins were not very soft at all, and the meat didn't have much flavour. The egg tarts were a delightful end to our meal; the egg was light and creamy and the crust wonderfully flaky. The cherry on top was the price though; we couldn't believe our eyes when we paid our cheque. We fully expected the bill to come out to at least twice as much as it actually was, especially comparing to some of the other Michelin-related dim sum restaurants in Vancouver (cough cough). Anyways super amazing meal, the menu was pretty big and I'd love to come back soon and try some of the other delicious things they have!!

Yelp
I wish Yelp did 1/2 or even 1/4 increments because I would give Little Bird 4.25/5. The steamed bbq pork buns, sticky rice, pot stickers, Shanghai soup dumpling, spring rolls, and the scallop taro puffs were delicious. The pork spareribs and dry garlic spareribs I thought were cut into little chunks that you could only nibble on. Sit outside on the sidewalk table along 4th Ave, weather permitting. Kitsilano is my favorite part of Vancouver.

Yelp
Decided to try Little Bird Dim Sum after discovering that it was recognized as a Michelin Bib Gourmand. I had really high hopes, especially having also heard that Vancouver has incredible dim sum. Walking in, the restaurant is a long rectangle that extends quite deep with seats lining against one side of the wall - half booth, half chairs. There are coat racks available which is nice given that it was raining on and of. Upon entry, our initial interaction with a staff member was quite awkward. A hostess walked up to us but did not say hi or ask if we had a reservation. Instead she kind of just stared at me. Feeling kind of weird, I told her that we had a reservation for two in which she nodded and walked us to a table. Still, she did not utter a single word. Then all of a sudden, she started talking and explaining how the menu worked. Once again, I was kinda struck off guard because considering she hadn't said anything the entire time, I wasn't expecting her to talk. Like, why didn't you say hi when we walked in? Anyways, we proceeded to place all our orders by indicating on the menu what and how many of each item we wanted. Food, at best, was solid, but it wasn't amazing. The spare ribs and har gow were my favorite. The BBQ pork bun only came with one order. We also got the sticky rice. Once again, everything was just solid. One thing that was amazing was the hazy IPA we ordered.

Yelp
Adorable little restaurant with excellent food. The soup dumplings, Shanghai bao buns, and vegetable spring rolls were incredible. Servers were very friendly, attentive, and kind. I wish we had time to eat there again before we left Vancouver.

Yelp
I'm at a bit of a loss about what all the hype is about. At best this was just good, but normal, dim sum. I enjoyed the location and space. The highlight for me was the print of a Yardbirds poster from the Commodore where $3 would get you a ticket to see Paige, Beck, Clapton and Jones.

Yelp
Made a booking online for Sunday morning. I don't have a lot to add to what everyone else has already stated. In summary, smaller menu than a lot of sun sun places but lots to choose from. Bit of fusion of traditional dim sum vs more approachable options. Yea selection (yes they charge but it was $3). Generally good service, portion sizes make sense, many dishes are two or four, the sticky rice is one giant serving (pictured). Clean and bright spot, their house made sauce sort of reminded me of XO but without the fishy flavours. Will definitely return!

Yelp
This little, non-descript restaurant is bloody amazing. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and once you enter, the interior is comprised of an unpretentious long, deep and narrow galley-way. No windows in the interior; just a straight aisle to the back of the space, with a column of wooden tables adjacent to one wall. It's bustling. My party of four were seated promptly and given a menu encased in a plastic sheath, along with a black white-board marker to circle our order on the plasticized menu. It's not a fancy place. I left it up to my friend to choose what to order. (It was his birthday, and he had lived in Asia for many years so was most familiar with all the dim sum dishes). We got a TON of food - SO many dishes and plates. I have no idea what most of it was. I don't know the names of the dishes ordered. But it all was EXCELLENT. (Even my friend, who is usually quite critical of Asian foods here in Vancouver, said these dishes were excellent). I had a bit of sticky rice with chicken and sausage in it (excellent). I had a big, fluffy white bun with a delicious pork filling in it (OMG this was so good). There were dry rubbed small spareribs (delicious). There were soup-filled dumplings (delicious). There were two other types of dumplings that I did not have but were gobbled up fast by my friends, who said they were delicious. (I was stuffed by this time). I had a wonderful glass of pinot Grigio (small but decent wine offerings here). Then there was dessert. I did not partake (I truly was stuffed), but my friends ordered egg tarts (my friend said these were good but the pastry was a tad undercooked and there was a bit too much custard filling. Still, he had three of them lol!), and these sesame-covered balls filled with a sweetened filling. My friend said these sesame balls were as good as any he's ever had in Asia. Now THAT says a LOT! Our servers were attentive and friendly, and the prices were quite reasonable. I'm already planning on returning with my daughter. This place is truly a find!

Yelp
Food was good, definitely not as many options as a traditional dim sum restaurant but I like the concise menu. Definitely want to try the craft beer next time but it was 11am so I didn't partake. Service was efficient, and the ambiance was nice. I loved that they have vegan options as that was our entire reason for going (one of us is strictly vegan). Definitely will go back if ever in Vancouver!

Audrey P.

Yelp
We go quite often.. maybe Easter is not a good time. Food was just okay, a couple of items were burnt but edible still. The custard buns were dry and solid, so disappointed. We were so looking forward to the filling being warm and runny. Oh well I guess chefs have off days too! He

Yelp
Arrived at 530pm and the place was packed. Was worried but the food came out quickly and hot! All the dishes were good too great. On a mediocre note though, the xiao long bao was average, would like to see a vinegar and ginger sliver option. I do appreciate this a difficult dish to get just right. 2-3 portions per dish allows one to try several dishes, which we did. Overall would recommend and looking forward to going again! Spotted the Pinot Gris from Nichol, lovely BC wine! try it. I enjoyed the Main Street Pilsner.

Yelp
LB offers traditional dim sum in a modern setting. Dim sum is often better with a group in order to try a variety of dishes, but LB's menu/portions and two-tops tables actually encourages a duo to enjoy this style of food. Spouse and I booked a table for brunch and were able to sample 8 dishes with minimal leftovers. It's worth noting that LB offers dim sum beginners an easy way to start exploring. Spouse doesn't share my ardent love of all Asian foods, but he has been eating it long enough with me to comment that the quality of the dishes he felt comfortable eating was pretty high. We had Chinese greens, sticky rice, steamed shrimp and chive dumplings, bean curd rolls, spring rolls, two kinds of pan fried dumplings and fry garlic spareribs. Everything was fresh and well prepared. Fried items were not greasy. Service was quick, though slightly confusing when trying to get a check. Several people waited on us through the meal. Our bill came to $65 Canadian with tea, which felt totally reasonable for this meal. I highly recommend LB to dim sum newcomers and lovers alike. LB also won a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for 2022.

Yelp
Yum! Definitely a modern take on classic dim sum but the flavors are good. We tried a lot of stuff on the menu and it was all good. Definitely would come back and keep this on the rotation. Oh and they have a dog friendly patio. Yum'

Yelp
Pros: food is great! dim sum is authentic I love it that they offer delicious microbrews The vibe is welcoming, contemporary, and fresh. Plenty of free street parking nearby. Friendly servers and fast service. This is not your typical traditional Chinese/dim sum restaurant. It's hip and not intimidating to dim sum beginners. As an experienced dim sum lover, I am also happy with my experience. Cons: not much! I guess I wish they could open all day long and expand their menu a little bit more?

Yelp
We heard about this place from a show with Seth Rogen, and it didn't disappoint. It's a hole in the wall but surprisingly deep. With that setup, unfortunately the table for our group was very long and it was hard to converse. The dim sum was delicious and service attentive. We would try this place again.

Yelp
Excellent service and amazing dim sum. Comfortable & comunal setting. Especially blown away by the egg custard fresh out of the oven. Some of the best we've ever had! Keep up the great work!

Yelp
We got the pot sticker, Veg Siu Mai, Shanghai Bun, Bean Curd roll, Har Gow. The veg siu mai had beyond meat and was unlike anything we've had before. We didn't make a reservation and we got a bad table but as soon as they had a cancellation, they moved us to a better table. Flavorful food, friendly staff and a good vibe.

Yelp
I went to Little Bird Dim Sum after reading about it in The NY Times. Admittedly I'm not much of a drinker so I was focused on the food. The food was really mid -- I've eaten a lot of dim sum in NYC and Toronto and this was really not impressive. Most things were average -- the shrimp with cilantro dumpling and really lacked flavor. The shrimp toast was actively bad. I know shrimp toast is oily most of the time but the bread should be fried until it is golden brown and crispy -- mine was just soft and filled with oil. There are much better places to have dim sum in Vancouver. But maybe this is a good place for locals in Kits who don't want to haul out. The service was good and the ambience was just ok -- yes it's a little hipper than the average dim sum place but I don't think it's nicer.

Yelp
Dim sum and craft brew? It's a perfect match in my book. This is a cute little place with little dividers between tables for 2 and 4 people. I started with the Juicy AF Hazy IPA from Boombox as I perused the menu (can, $7.50) It was delicious - juicy af just as advertised (though the menu indicated a bit lower alc% than was written on the can, but I didn't care). The food - you circle things you want on the menu and they bring them to you hot. We had sticky rice, dry garlic spareribs, cilantro and shrimp dumplings, fried garlic squid, baby gai lan and crispy bean curd roll. Everything was super tasty. Great squid, great bean curd roll. The spareribs were a lot more bone than meat, but good garlic taste, good to gnaw on. The standout was the cilantro and shrimp dumplings - we ordered these twice (3 in each order, $7). The servers were very attentive to re-filling our sriracha, sesame oil, hot mustard, etc. Would come here again - especially for more dumplings and to try more things!

Yelp
As a dim sum snob...I travel great distances for the good stuff. When Little Bird first opened just around the corner from our house I was skeptical. One meal and I can tell you it's better than the rest.......so delicious. We are already regulars.

Yelp
Wowwwww amazing dim sum here!! Got your dim sum at night here you gooo!! Come here at your late night and get your dim sum!! Woohoooo letsgoo! Anyway, the dim sum is good especially the tantat. Got a burnt one and thankfully they admitted their mistakes and took ir from the bill. Glad for the reponsible behaviour of the service. Just need the tantat to be baked lesser time and to be turned inside so hopefully it doesnt get burnt. Nevertheless, it is such a good damn juicy tantat! Cheers! This is recommended from me!

Yelp
I hate to dis a local business, particularly one that has earned acclaim, but our experience here was compromised by less that professional wait staff, uneven wait times between dishes, and a beer list ( this is a "craft beer" pmace, right?) that's unremarkable.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 rounded up. Doing my mixed bag review Do try it. It's a very different experience. All day dim sum. Sort of like the all day breakfast that you get at a lot of western restaurants. Nothing else like it in Vancouver that I'm aware of that you can get beer with dim sum. Do not bring granny here that speaks 台山話. She'll hate it. Don't bring your 鄉下 parents either. They'll hate it and give you an earful. 「衰嘢! 咁唔抵食嘅!」 Do order a heaping meal. When I say heaping, do what I did. 15 plates for 3 peeps. I swear, I ordered close to half the menu. That's how you do dim sum properly you noob. Do not expect to order sweet and sour pork, chicken balls, or chow mein etc. You deserve to be bitch slapped if you do you noob. Do order the "feet". You know, the chicken feet. I don't eat it because I'm a hypocrite. If you're going to do dim sum with beer, you may as well order the feet and drown it out with the beer. Do not expect to see a lot of Asians. This place is targeted for a specific demographic. Do expect "authentic" dim sum. Yes, this is not Western bastardized Chinese food in any manner whatsoever. It's the real deal. If I'm not mistaken, there appears to be a hint of MSG for the complete experience. I couldn't fully come to a conclusion on that one. Do not expect to be overly confused by the menu. It's all in English and is laid out nicely. Do expect a conclusion for my review. The food is authentic as you can get. Hits and misses here and there but overall not bad and pretty good. Hard to compare to another dim sum place because, depending on your semantics, it's hard to declare what's authentic and what's not. The atmosphere is definitely Western demographically aimed. Nothing wrong with that. Don't be a noob. I had to try this place out, and you should too.

Grace A.

Yelp
Delicious dim sum at a reasonable price! A highlight for me was the sticky rice, BBQ pork bun, and rice puffs. The tables were pretty close together, but still it wasn't too loud for conversation. The service was new to me as you circled the items you wanted on the menu, but I thought it was efficient!

Yelp
Great to see a dim sum place on the west side. Beautiful interior, with a real eye for creating a comfortable and inviting environment. While not feeling like a typically authentic dim sum place, the food does deliver pretty well. They have a whole "Garden" section, which offers 7 vegetarian (6 vegan) items. We ordered all 6 vegan items for lunch and it was about the right amount. Everything was tasty, especially the fun guo dumplings and sticky rice. Perhaps the only slight let-down was the veggie siu mai: it's made with Beyond Meat and has a hamburger-like flavour, and at $9 for 3 pieces, is not a good deal. The prices in general are on the high side for the portions ($5-6 for typically 2 pieces, sometimes 3, pieces per item). Tea is $3 per pot, something typically complementary at Chinese places. Service is top-notch: very informative, helpful, quick, and friendly. I also really like that they ask at the outset if you want hot sauce to go with your dishes. Since I live near Sun Bo Kong / Po Kong and can get a bigger variety of authentic veggie dim sum there, I probably won't visit here much, but appreciate very much what they're doing. Worth checking out.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed Little Bird for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We had the sticky rice, bao, shrimp with chives, garlic dry ribs, potstickers and the steamed sponge cake for dessert. Everything was terrific. The prices were very reasonable for the quality. If I lived in Vancouver I would be a regular customer.

Yelp
Ambiance: 3/5 Service: 2/5 Food: 3.5/5 Overall: 3/5 I had been dreaming about a late-night dim sum place for a while, so you can imagine how excited I was when this spot opened! Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. I went on a Saturday night around 7 to put my name down for a party of 3. The hostess said the wait would be around 30-45min which was very manageable, so I added my name to the clipboard and waited outside. However, the wait ended up being much longer than this. We ended up getting a table around 8:30. They don't allow you to add your number either which means that you'll likely have to wait outside for them to call your name as the waiting area inside is rather small. The rest of the experience did not get that much better. I was extra excited because most dim sum is traditionally meat-based, but they had a bunch of different veggie options to try! I picked two out, and was told that they had ran out of one of the dishes today, so I picked another item. Five minutes later, the waitress came and told me that they were also out of that item, so I ended up getting the veggie Shanghai bun and spring rolls. My friends' food took a while to get ready, but it all came out around the same time. My first dish came out around 15 minutes after both of theirs, and the other one followed. The waitress didn't apologize for this nor even checked in to say that things were on the way, even when we flagged her down to ask if there were more dishes on the way she said "I'm not sure, I think so". As for the taste of the food, it was decent. The spring rolls were good but my shanghai bun barely had any filling in it and was rather tasteless. Overall, I really wanted to like this spot but that wasn't the case. This might just be because they're so new and trying to smooth out all the kinks, but I'd be hesitant to come back until they made serious improvements - especially to their service.

Andrew G.

Yelp
Nice place, good service and beers, so-so dim sum. Ha gau/steamed shrimp dumplings were heavy, the dough too thick and opaque. Garlic fried squid was overly salty, and should have come with a chili sauce/mustard without us having to ask for it. Jielan/gailan was fine as a veg but more seasonal green options would have been nice. Nothing was bad, just not terribly exciting. Overall the menu leans far too heavily toward fried vs. steamed (which I get with beer, but still). I think it's a nice concept, and a cool spot for hanging out with friends, but especially in a city with lots of *really good* dim sum the food needs an upgrade

Yelp
Dim sum + local Beer date night Loved the cozy homey atmosphere here Our server was friendly and helpful The food was... WOW I loved every piece of dim sum here I've tried many authentic/fancy/hip dim sum places here and there but this place is definitely one of my favorites My top two was - rice cake puffs and taro scallop.. yummm

Yelp
Modern restaurant with stellar dim sum. Tried numerous dishes and was pleasantly surprised with the authentic taste. Had the craft beer flight and green tea sesame balls for dessert. Highly recommend and definitely will come again.

Yelp
Not so variety as large dim sum restaurants, however it is enough for 3 people like us. All good taste good

Yelp
Came for lunch on a Sunday. Took down our contact information for contract tracing. It wasn't busy on a Sunday afternoon. The food was surprisingly not bad and the service was not bad. The shrimp toast was a bit too oily for me. It seems like it had soaked up all the oil. The shrimp dumpling skin was too thick but there was a good amount of shrimp inside and was flavoured nicely. The fried chicken knees was one of our favourite dishes. It was crunchy and chewy. Flavoured nicely. Would order this again. The sesame matcha balls was our favourite. There was close to no matcha flavour. It tasted mostly of sesame which was fine for me because I love sesame. It wasn't overly sweet and I loved the bitterness of the sesame. The mochi was also really chewy. The taro curry ball with scallop on top was a bit of a downer. The curry on the inside was a bit cold as it was colder than the outside so they probably didn't fry it all the way. The flavour was not bad but again the oil got soaked all the way through. There was a bit of a mishap with the glutinous rice balls with pork filling as it wasn't cooked all the way through. But they were apologetic and gave us a new one right away. The rice flour flavour from the outside was a bit too strong for me and also too thick but I liked the crispiness of the outside as it's a bit different from other dimsum places. Overall I thought the flavours were okay but some of the fried stuff could have been fried better. This place is perfect for smaller groups to go to as each dish comes with two pieces instead of the usual three or four so you can try more dishes. I would definitely recommend the fried chicken knees and the matcha sesame glutinous rice balls.

Yelp
This new spot is super cute, and has great food The restaurant is quite large - maybe a bit too large since they were not enough staff to assist everyone. The service staff were friendly. But they were definitely understaff, which meant very slow service for everyone. I noticed some of the tables around us, ordered items and then they were sold out, some people actually left after waiting for a long period of time. The food - from what we got was amazing! I was extremely disappointed that i waited 20 minutes for a table, also spent lots of time just sitting at our table waiting for food that didn't come out. I believe we got 3/7 things we ordered. Most of the items the staff forgot about, once we informed the staff, they said they would bring the items right away, I think after that we waited about 20 more minutes, no food, after waiting for such very long period of time, we decided it was best to just grab our bill and go. I would come back since the dumplings were great, but service needs to be improved majorly.

Yelp
This is a really interesting concept for Kitsilano, where it is a bit of a desert for Dim Sum. The offering of dim sum at night is novel - and also the pairing with craft beers! In summary, this is authentic Chinese dim sum (while adding its own flair) in an area that's lacking in this option. I went on a weekday, so it was fairly quiet. However, all the servers were super nice and attentive, grabbing drink orders and providing recommendations. There were a huge variety of drinks from authentic teas (including HK Lemon Tea) and craft beers. For food, we got the following: - The Feet (Chicken Feet) - Ha Gow (Shrimp Dumpling) - Pork Spareribs - Beyond Meat Siu Mai with Truffle - Chive and Shrimp Dumpling - Stuffed Eggplant - Curry Squid And for dessert: - Green Tea Sesame Balls - Lychee/Goji Berry Jelly The food was definitely authentic and tasted similar to a typical dim sum restaurant. The beyond meat was an interesting choice as a vegan siu mai (I'm sure I'll enjoy the meat option more though). The Ha Gow has a lot of shrimps. The Stuffed Eggplant was so delicious with the shrimp paste and the bean sauce! The matcha sesame balls are a must - there's gooey black sesame inside! The minor things that could be improved would be making the Feet a bit more saucy and steam it for longer (though I can see that making the aesthetic more sloppy). The Curry Squid came in a watery sauce though the flavour was all there - so it's more of a presentation pointer. All in all, really interesting to have a place like this in Kits. I hope that it does really well and I'm interested in trying more dishes. We talked to the owner and it seems like they're constantly innovating the menu. They're really trying to take in our feedback - and this is an attribute that I respect :)

Yelp
Just finished eating. Heard about it's opening a few weeks ago and it's already packed. Happy for them as it's a great concept. Pros/ the dim sum is as good as any authentic Chinese dim sum place. Great assortment. Fair pricing. Suitable for 2 people. Smaller portions. Modern booze to go along with the dishes. Seriously if you want dim sum with booze and with a modern feel it hits all the high notes. Aside from the typical dishes we also tried less sampled dishes. And I'm only going to comment on those Chicken feet - a bit more put together than normal and tasted on par with Richmond joints Sweet rice puff - actually the deep fried pork dumpling. The glutinous rice was definitely sweeter than Normal. It made it feel like dessert meat. Nothing wrong with it. But a bit too sweet for a savoury dish Ha gu chou cold herbal tea- was good. It sounds intimidating and probably would benefit from a more user friendly name like unsweetened Chinese iced tea. But that's exactly what it tastes like. Curry squid- as another reviewer mentioned. It was a bit watery but tasted pretty typical. But not particularly recommended. All in all. It's dim sum on par with Richmond with clean modern digs Cons : crowded entry way with some chaos. With the standing line up and no where to stand or sit and no hostess. One feels stressed about losing their place in line. Perhaps a less service oriented but more efficient method is 'write your own name down' style. Because dim sum has to be steamed and it's relatively smaller volumes vs regular dim sum joints. The initial load in is noticeable slow both for dim sum and casual eatery standpoint. So there is a bit of sitting and waiting. All in all amazing deal. With 2 beers all in was $64. I was impressed and hoping they do well. Missing 5 stars until they resolve the front entry situation. It was a bit stressful and put us on edge.

Yelp
Dim sum served all-day at a bar in kits... I thought to myself... Is this going to be run by some hipsters that just steam up frozen stuff they buy at T&T? I was mistaken, their dim sum is fresh and tasty, and they know what they are doing. What's even better is that Dim Sum seems to pair perfectly with beer just like it does with tea. The service was great start to finish. Hostess was lovely, bar-tender was awesome, and our server (Urvashi - thank you) was fantastic. I'm always going to ask for chilli oil, chilli sauce and any other condiments I can get. Our server asked me if I wanted any, before I even had the chance. I thought that was really awesome! Kudos to doing something different!

Yelp
As soon as I left Little Bird after my first visit, I was already planning my next one. I've learned that people in this town can get really defensive about what constitutes "authentic" dim sum--"Craft beer with dim sum? Can't be real dim sum!", "Beyond Meat in some of the veggie dishes? Can't be real dim sum!" Etc, etc. Whatever this place is serving, and however you want to call it, I'll have seconds. I lean toward pescatarian/vegetarian fare, and it's rare to find a place that has so many substantive veggie dim sum offerings. The Vegetarian Shanghai buns were a more-ish mix of two kinds of mushrooms in a savory pillowy bun. I was initially skeptical about the Vegetarian Siu Mai with Beyond Meat, but the little parcels were very flavorful and not too stodgy. Even the veggie spring rolls came out fresh and slightly misshapen in an endearing way--definitely not the generic frozen pre fab kind. I came in on a Tuesday night at around 6 and the place was already buzzing, though we didn't have to wait. The space itself is somewhat narrow, and tables are right next to each other, so prepare to be cozy. Staff were pleasant and the dishes came out one by one without too much gap in between. My one piece of advice, if you don't eat pork, is to confirm that the dishes in the "Sea" category don't have pork in them. The menu is confusing in this way, for instance the Ha Gow is simply described as "shrimp dumpling" but it in fact has pork in it. Perhaps they'll create a more detailed menu at some point that clarifies these things. Menu confusion aside, this place is a total win in my book--delicious food that is inclusive of vegetarian palates, hospitable staff, and very reasonable prices. My friend and I split 4 plates and ended up paying $12 each (pre-tip)--practically unheard of in any Vancouver context, especially in this neighborhood!

Yelp
Alright. This place is a true gem. Food is truly amazing, service is great, wine list is also very complimentary. I am for sure going to be throwing some sort of a party there as it can seat 50 people easy. Vegan, vegetarians, pescatarian friendly. Children friendly. I'll be here more often than not. I genuinely hope this place succeeds

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise this little joint is! My bf and I arrived at about 6pm on Thursday night and it seemed as though everyone had the same idea, there were about 8 names ahead of us on the list so we popped over to Darby's to have a beer in the meantime. They don't take down your number or anything so you're kind of stuck either waiting or taking your chances by going for a quick drink. We headed back and missed our names but the line had cleared and they got us in really quickly. The tables are really closely together to maximize space, I didn't mind at all but I could see others finding it too tight. We ordered craft beers and a lot of dim sum! My bf is pescatarian and they had tons of options for him. We had Ha Gow, Shanghai vegetable buns, fried wontons, scallop taro puff, shrimp and chive dumplings and black bean pork ribs. Everything was pretty delicious! Each plate is anywhere from $5-9 and it was quite reasonable for two people! One thing I would change tho is portion size from three to four of the dim sum. It's silly to give three to a table of two. Most places give four in a steamer not three. We will most definitely be back and I can't wait to try everything on their menu!

Yelp
Really enjoy the dimsum from this place. It felt home made without MSGs, excessive oil nor salt. Our favourite dishes were the fried taro with pork & scallop and the curry squid. Love them for bringing all day dimsum to Vancouver. We will definitely be returning soon to try their other dishes.

Yelp
We are super excited to have a new favourite restaurant in walking distance from our home! We love Dim Sum ...and Little Bird does Dim Sum right!!! By adding craft beer they have also captured my husbands heart! The decor is simple but comfortable and welcoming. We really liked that they used recycled chop sticks to make their table tops and as a wallcover. The food was fantastic!! We would not hesitate to have any of the items again. We had the: Scallop Taro Puff Fried Garlic Squid Har Gow Chive & Shimp Dumpling (so good we had a 2nd order!) Siu Mai Vegetarian Sticky Rice Dry Garlic Spareribs We were sitting near the kitchen and watched as the owner carefully checked each plate as it left the kitchen. We started chatting with him and learned that his father owns the Flamingo (a longstanding highly respected Vancouver Dim Sum Restaurant). Clearly, he has learned from one of the best and has added his own flair and creativity to this new venture. We look forward to trying the rest of the menu and will be regulars at this little gem! I only managed to take two pictures as everything looked so good we started eating right away and I forgot to take a picture!! EDIT: We returned for bunch today and tried a bunch more items. Everything continues to be amazing! Today we tried the: Vegetarian Spring Rolls Shrimp Fried Wonton Baked BBQ tofu Bun Har Gow Chive & Shrimp Dumpling I took a few more pics this time.

Yelp
Name me a dim sum place in Kitsilano. Hard to find right? Well this is a night time spot so that's probably the only night time dim sum restaurant in Vancouver. There were several dishes that reminded me of going to Chinatown with my grandma when I was little. The har gow and the sticky rice was exceptional. The siu mai was nothing to rave about. Fried sticky rice dumpling was . Really loved the scallop taro dumpling. Here's the thing, the portions are small. Some dishes only serve 2 or 3 pieces. It's great if you go in a group of 3, not so much in a group of 4. The short ribs were expensive for what it is, they tasted great but my Asianness was crying inside for how much they were. Overall, service was quick, great beer selection. Definitely pass on the HK lemon tea... it doesn't even come close to what it is supposed to taste like. Not worth the drive if you don't live in the area unless you want night time dim sum.

Yelp
A very small business with a very big heart. We came in on a Sunday at noon and it was a little packed but the service was excellent. The food was really well made and whatever that mustard sauce was, I was hooked. A little gem in Kitsilano!

Yelp
Ordered take out as the kids didn't want to go out to a restaurant. Ordered variety of items, $100 worth. Picked up food on time. However one item missing and quality of the dim sum was average at best. Had baby gai-lan and wasn't fully cooked. Not a great first experience. For about $10 more I get better value and quality from Victoria Chinese Restaurant downtown.
