I came here for the the Duel in the D event on Saturday, February 10 at 8:30 p.m with my friends. What should have been an exciting night turned into a deeply disappointing and infuriating experience due to the blatant racial profiling and unprofessional behavior we encountered. I will discuss the treatment we received from the security staff and the appalling behavior of other guests that went unchecked.
We had purchased tickets that were not next to each other, so we decided to sit together in adjacent seats. Our plan was simple: if the rightful ticket holders arrived, we would move to other empty seats. This happened twice, and both times, the security guard's reaction was unnecessarily aggressive and rude. Rather than politely asking us to return to our assigned seats, the guard yelled at us in a demeaning manner, making us feel like we were committing some grave offense.
The hideous security guard's behavior was utterly unacceptable. His hostile tone and aggressive demeanor were completely disproportionate to the situation. Even when we complied and moved seats, the guard continued to berate us, refusing to let us sit together even when the seats were unoccupied. This was a clear display of power-tripping and unprofessionalism.
What made this situation even more infuriating was the stark contrast in how other guests were treated. Later on in the game, a group of visibly drunk individuals were causing a scene. They were cussing each other out and hurling insults at each other. Their behavior was disruptive and inappropriate, especially considering there were young children around. Despite this, the security guard did nothing to intervene. He turned a blind eye to their antics, allowing them to continue their obnoxious behavior unchecked. By the way, these insults were so weak, even BBL Drizzy would've had better bars. One of the insults I heard was, "I drive a Mercedes! I bet you don't!"
The disparity in how we were treated compared to the drunk guests was glaringly obvious and deeply troubling. It was clear that we were being singled out because of our race. We are all Asian, and the security guard and the drunk individuals were white. This blatant racial profiling is unacceptable and inexcusable. We were treated like criminals for simply wanting to sit together, while the disruptive behavior of others was tolerated without question.
The security guard's actions were not only discriminatory but also indicative of a serious lack of professionalism and judgment. This kind of behavior is not only unprofessional but also reflects poorly on Little Caesars Arena as a whole. It is the responsibility of the venue to ensure that their staff are properly trained to handle situations with fairness and respect, regardless of the guests' race or ethnicity. It is disheartening to see such behavior in a public venue where everyone should feel welcome and safe.
Furthermore, the lack of intervention in the case of the drunk individuals behind us was deeply concerning. Their behavior was disruptive and inappropriate, yet the security guard chose to ignore it. This double standard is unacceptable. If the security staff had the time and energy to berate us for sitting in unoccupied seats, they certainly should have intervened in a situation where guests were dropping weak bars at each other. No wonder these people live in Detroit.
I strongly urge Little Caesars Arena to address these issues immediately. The security staff needs proper training to ensure that all guests are treated with respect and fairness. Racial profiling and discrimination should have no place in any public venue. It is clear that security guard has a rotten brain that should be donated to a lab for science to study how such vile and repugnant morals are developed in a place like Detroit.
