On the Grid : Little Fitzroy

"“Passion is contagious, it rubs off onto other people”, says Cathryn, owner of Little Fitzroy. It’s clearly evident as the morning rush of customers eagerly await their speciality coffee. This was setup to fill a gap in the local area where you can get caffeinated from 8am (7am on the weekend). They offer a vegetarian and vegan breakfast/brunch menu too, which complements the coffee, and have an extensive pressed juice menu too. Watch out for Little Fitzroy’s monthly dumpling pop-up, part of the Slow Food movement, which is definitely worth sampling. Just don’t come on Tuesdays, it’s the one day they are closed." - fourcolourblack

This is one of the best cafes in Edinburgh - the atmosphere is incredible and wholesome and the staff were so friendly. We got the fruit granola and avocado bagel for breakfast, with a cappuccino and latte. The food was flavourful, healthy, and nutritious and exactly what we needed. The coffees are very smooth and a lot of milk alternatives available. 95% of the pastries and sandwiches were vegan and it was amazing having such a choice there! Really really would recommend.

Little Fitzroy Coffee is one of those rare cafés that combines character, quality, and charm in equal measure. Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, it has quickly established itself as a go-to spot for coffee lovers who value not only great drinks but also a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the outside, it might appear unassuming, but stepping inside reveals a vibrant and lively space filled with the unmistakable aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the buzz of happy customers. The first thing that struck me was the personality of the café itself. Little Fitzroy has an effortlessly cool, slightly quirky vibe that sets it apart from many other coffee shops. The décor is stylish yet unpretentious, with just the right balance between modern design and cozy comfort. It feels like the kind of place where everyone is welcome—students, professionals, locals, and tourists alike. When it comes to the coffee, Little Fitzroy truly excels. Their commitment to quality and attention to detail is evident in every cup. I started my visit with a flat white, and it was outstanding: smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness from the milk. The espresso base had depth and complexity, with flavour notes that lingered long after the last sip. On another occasion, I tried their pour-over, and it was nothing short of exceptional—clean, bright, and full of nuance, showcasing the quality of their beans and the skill of their baristas. It’s clear that Little Fitzroy takes pride in sourcing and preparing specialty coffee, and it shows in the taste. The food here is also well worth mentioning. Their pastries and light bites are fresh, delicious, and make the perfect pairing with a cup of coffee. I particularly enjoyed a croissant that was buttery, flaky, and absolutely delicious alongside my cappuccino. Everything felt thoughtfully chosen and prepared with the same care that goes into the coffee. One of the highlights of my visits to Little Fitzroy has been the staff. They are friendly, approachable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Whether you’re a seasoned coffee enthusiast or just someone looking for a comforting latte, they make you feel at ease. The baristas are more than happy to explain different brewing methods or recommend beans based on your preferences, which adds a personal and educational element to the experience. The overall atmosphere is another reason this café stands out. It’s lively without being overwhelming, making it a great spot to meet friends, work on your laptop, or simply relax with a book. The background music adds to the vibe without being intrusive, and the space always feels clean and well looked after. In summary, Little Fitzroy Coffee is a gem in Edinburgh’s coffee scene. With its expertly brewed coffee, delicious food, friendly staff, and unique character, it offers an experience that goes far beyond just grabbing a quick drink. It’s the kind of café that makes you want to return time and again, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. For anyone who loves great coffee served with heart and personality, Little Fitzroy is an absolute must-visit.

For years now, Little Fitzroy has been my number one place for take away coffee. The bean selection changes regularly, they champion local roasters, and the flat whites are flawless. I love looking at the espresso list written on the shop window to see what the flavour notes are and then testing my own senses to see if I can taste the same thing - a bit of coffee fun every time I visit! Little Fitzroy is also doing the best value take away coffee in the city if you bring your own cup/mug. Great price for fantastic coffee! The staff are super friendly and they can recommend beans to take home and they'll grind them for you too. Ashton recently recommended some beans to me that were well-matched to my preferred flavour profile. Kat also gave me recommendations for specialty coffee shops in another city/country, which were great. Whether it's for sit in or take away, Little Fitzroy is an undeniable coffee institution in Edinburgh. Don't miss out!

I have always been a sucker for their salads and cake!! I had an Italian salad yesterday, and it was okay but their hummus-falafel one is the best, do give it a try!! And their coffee walnut cake, so so good! Really enjoyed it! Can't wait for their more summer salads!!!

I had breakfast twice at this place, and all the pastries I tried were very good; their peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies were my favorite. Many of their pastries are vegan, and they have vegetable milks for coffee and hot chocolate. Plus, they have a very nice space with tables, which is quiet and relaxing, and very friendly staff.

Cute, cozy, and delicious coffee shop in Edinburgh. My husband & I wanted to visit new establishments during our trip and coffee is our love language so naturally we had to check out Little Fritzroy Coffee. Glad we did! We arrived shortly after they opened and were greeted by some friendly faces. They walked us through their menu and we ended up ordering two muesli’s, two lattes, and a pain au raisin (my favorite European bread!). The muesli was amazing! Very tasty, lots of flavor, and filling. The coffee was delicious as was the baked good. I would highly recommend this coffee shop if you’re looking for a beautiful cup of coffee and some good breakfast choices.

Big thank you and shout out for your incredible customer service. I order a coffee while waiting for my bus. Place was busy and coffee was taking a bit of time understandably. Unfortunately, I had to make a move and informed that I had to leave coffee behind and come back another time. Fortunately for me, barista run after me and gave me my coffee as I was entering the bus. Dis not get your name but will come back to thank you as coffee also was incredible!! 😊😊😊😊
