The 20 Best Restaurants On Martha’s Vineyard 2024

"At some point, you’re going to need breakfast or a quick and tasty lunch. Little House Cafe has the best breakfast sandwiches (check out the BLT), wraps, bagels with lox, and oversized lattes on the island. The sunny spot also serves a solid lunch, doing stuff like Thai red curry kebabs and a chicken shawarma wrap. There are plenty of picnic tables, and you can hit the attached bakery for hearty loaves of bread, sweet homestyle cookies, or even to order a birthday cake. " - tanya edwards

Little House Cafe Review - Elmhurst - New York - The Infatuation

"Little House Cafe looks like a bakery or a coffee shop - and it is, actually, both of those things. But this tiny counter-service spot on Corona Ave is also a full-on restaurant serving a mix of Thai, Malaysian, and Chinese dishes. The thin, flaky, and especially delicate roti canai is a must-order, and if you want a substantial breakfast or lunch, we highly recommend their nasi lemak with lightly fragrant rice and a bright, spicy sambal. This place is open all day, and it’s ideal for a quick snack with a side of bubble tea or a casual bowl of noodles on a Tuesday night." - Bryan Kim

Google
Visiting Martha's Vineyard for the first time. Love the area. The island is beautiful. Did a search for places to eat and found Little House has great reviews so we decided to try it out. Definitely didn't disappoint. The food was spectacular. Truly enjoyed our food and the service was great. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the tenderloin tacos. Really wanted to try the chicken shawarma so we asked for a side of it and a side of Tahini sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious. We didn't have dessert as we were going exploring around and opted to try something somewhere else. Highly recommend a stop here.

We were a party of 11 that dined in for brunch. They have enough space for a big party like us. The food was average. The shell of fish taco was neither soft nor hard so it was a surprise for me. They do serve fried and pan seared version of the fish tacos which is nice. The chicken kabab Thai fusion dish and chicken shwarma were probably the best dishes on the table. The lemonade was way too sour and the muffin we ordered here was not so fresh either.

Google
This is a place when you want a bit quieter place on this busy island during the summer. Very interesting and international menu. Beet and arugula salad very good. Lamb burger very nice and comes with Greek salad (which I will substitute for chips, since there lots of tomatoes on the burger) Salmon very good. Polite, fried and sweet staff.

Google
Had the fish tacos. It was mostly tomato. The iced chai latte was decent. Went because of the reviews but I was a bit disappointed. Two tacos, mostly tomato, chai latte $37 total….

Google
I rarely review things. It either has to be “that good” or “that bad”. Unfortunately, Little House Cafe was “that bad”. We were initially attracted to the restaurant because we could sit outside with our dog. You go inside, order takeout, and can use their picnic tables - perfect. I asked them to let us know when our food was ready and we’ll come grab it from inside. The woman taking orders said “come back in 15 minutes”. She was unable to peak her head outside the door and say “food is ready guys.” Too much effort. The food was bland, eggs over cooked and laughably expensive. I understand Martha’s Vineyard in general is expensive and im happy to pay those prices for quality food and service but this was awful all around. See attached picture of $75 (not exaggerating) breakfast. We were the only people there the entire time and it’s clear why…. This place must’ve gone down hill or we were there on a VERY off day. There’s lots of choices on the island - go literally anywhere else.

Google
Haven't had great experiences here but others seem to love it. I ordered the shawarma and my mother had the butternut squash salad. The salad looked appealing and appetizing and tasted really good. The shawarma had a strange fish like taste to it and was not very appealing to the eye. It kind of just unrolls and opens up when you unwrap the paper which makes it difficult and messy to eat. I ended up switching my shawarma for a pretty basic but tasty turkey sandwich. The woman at the counter was super friendly and helpful and was very nice in offering an exchange for something else that I was happy with.

Google
When looking for a breakfast places we decided to get out of the busyness of the Port. We came across Little House Cafe that's a off the beaten-path. They serve up some traditional breakfast. Service is excellent and the place is clean. They do also have a takeaway and bakery attached to this venue. Prices are reasonable since you are at the *Vineyard*

Google
It's ok. The service was good, nothing above and beyond and same goes for most of the food. With that said I will say their fish tacos weren't really seasoned at all, but besides that everything was fine. I recommend the salmon bagel.

Yelp
Wow. Am I dreaming. It's quiet, soft music, museum quality artwork, friendly service. Now the food: My Brooklyn boy husband said the bagel and smoked salmon was thick sliced and amazing. I was so happy with my fresh roasted coffee and the grilled Brie sandwich.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious lunch that hit the spot-I had the half lentil salad and half mango chicken salad. So good!

Yelp
I don't give out 5 stars often. I feel there's always room for improvement. However, I couldn't think of anything that they could do better. We had a perfect breakfast. Service was excellent and on point. Six of us ordered a mix of coffees. Oat milk latte, decaf cappuccino whole milk, teas and others. Everything was perfect. Food was served hot and promptly. Everyone had a great experience. Can't wait to try their lunches. Cute cottage setting Very intimate.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant on the island. Their Maple Butternut Squash Salad, a side of their chicken shawarma and the powerhouse salad were all out of this world! I wish I loved closer, this would be a spot I would frequent often!

Robert K.

Yelp
My wife and I went for lunch on Wednesday and had their curried chicken salad and their Nicoise salad. Both were excellent. So we went back on Thursday morning for breakfast. We both wound up ordering the breakfast wrap - scrambled eggs with arugula, pickled red onions, chopped tomatoes, chèvre and harissa aioli. Outstanding. Will definitely go back again the next time we go to MV.

Yelp
Three of us enjoyed a healthy, satisfying dinner, my kind of dinner. Our starter, the veggie and hummus plate, held no interest for me until it was set on the table. It keeps you happy while you wait, even if you're already happy. My order was a fresh and delicious feta salad with a side of six falafel. The falafel, denser than I'm used to, with smaller bites and yummy dip was the perfect accompaniment for my Greek salad. And I helped my tiny 93 yo friend with her falafel, too. No shame. My other friend ordered a burger. Will return for sure. The ambience was warm and welcoming, more than photos show. Same goes for the service, especially with answers to our questions. I'll be back.

Yelp
Oasis! Delicious Saturday breakfast and a wonderful dirty chai tumeric latte. Great server as well

Yelp
A little hidden gem on Martha's Vineyard... you could pass this spot and even miss it since the entrance is in the back of the restaurant. However, once you find it you will definitely go back and never miss it again. The service and food are top notch along with a variety of dishes, sides, drinks and desserts to choose from and remember! I am already looking forward to my next meal there before I leave island or when I return.

C M.

Yelp
Awesome little spot right outside downtown Vineyard Haven. Quick service, attentive wait staff, and delicious food. I had the caprese sandwich and it hit the spot. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Morgan K.

Yelp
Super cute and charming place. I was very happy they had turkey bacon. The breakfast BLT and breakfast sandwich were both really good. The bagels are homemade fresh! The potatoes were nicely seasoned with garlic. The service was a little slow but friendly. We loved this place!

Binnie R.

Yelp
Everything! Food is fresh and lovely. Service attentive and not intrusive. Excellent choices.

Christopher B.

Yelp
The staff isn't friendly, borderline racist and homophobic. They told us we needed to sit outside with no warning when our food was complete. We as a group were very respectful and polite in there establishment. As a group or (4) we spent about $150 on lunch. That was just salads and sandwiches. Which in its self is ridicules. We eat out everyday for lunch but we will not return to this place, as they clearly don't care about your experience. If you are of a different race or gay don't expect to be treated with equality

Yelp
After an ownership change within the past couple years, Little House no longer gives off the welcoming to and staying in someone's house type of vibe. However, their food for the most part remains among the most consistent on the island. In a few cases, serving size has now returned to pre-pandemic norms. I tend to enjoy the squash salad or chicken kebabs the most. The spaghetti with meatballs has also recently emerged as a new favorite, with an especially generous portion size. Desserts are a special treat. I feel the brief spin-off into a separate "Little House Bakery" was ill-advised, but they seem to have refocused on in-house offerings at this point. The ginger cake or scones in particular are generally not to be missed. Pandemic trends made them pivot to takeout with regularity, and they seem to still be holding with that routine at this late fall 22 point in time. Nonetheless, a step inside the restaurant for a hearty and social meal is also still worth your time and effort.

Yelp
I have ordered their chicken shawarma in the past. I tried to order for 2 days! The first day no one answered the phone so I drove over there only to be met with a sign on the door that read they were closed that day until 4 pm. Google maps said open. On the next day because I really wanted my husband to try the schwarma we halted our pickle ball game so that we could order from "The Little House Cafe". When I called....at 1:00 they were out of chicken. At this point we are hungry so I asked, what are some recommendations! My husband ordered the falafel wrap and me I ordered the lamb burger. Both were disgusting!!!!! My husband is pretty laid back. He took one bite of the wrap and walked it to the trash can. He said he'd never had falafel that chewy. So I started my lamb burger..... Let me say This, it was the Worst food I've had on MV in many years. I will Never Go Back!!

Yelp
Acutely mediocre. Menu has some nice ideas, but comically overpriced and not great. The basic breakfast (eggs, spinach, toast, avocado) came with overcooked eggs and brown avocado for $16.50. Coffee was very shaky.
google avatar

Sam D.

Yelp
1. THEY NO LONGER HAVE PANCAKES ON THE MENU haha so multiple groups ( including ours ) came in for the pancakes we saw in their photos but they no longer serve them here. 2. The food and quality of the food is delicious! Freshest sautéed spinach I've ever had. 4/5 breakfast experience. They have dine in and picnic tables outside. 3. Good service and clean place 4. Would recommend for single, couples, and small groups. We loved the breakfast sandwich (~$11) and green breakfast (~$11)
google avatar

Yelp
Food is awesome, service is amazing. It's so cute in the place too!! I 100% recommend coming here
google avatar

Louise M.

Yelp
The falafel wrap is the best on island! Yummy yummy breakfast! Small and very busy in the summer with extremely limited parking, so ordering to go is a good idea.
google avatar

Erwin F.

Yelp
Ordered the lamb burger. I'm allergic to eggplant. The menu online did not say it had eggplant. When I showed up to mention the allergy, one of the servers stated that the physicals menu was no different than the online menu and that the eggplant was listed. I proceeded to show a different server that no eggplant was listed on either menu who actually read the menu and understood the issue that the eggplant was not written anywhere. It's very disappointing to order something and not get what you want. But it's worse when a restaurant makes you think you can't read...

Yelp
This place is indeed little. It is also small: it shuts down for an hour between breakfast and lunch. It's clear that the staff DO NOT care about your experience. They just don't. This is one of the things I despise. They'll actually turn people away if they're about to take their 1 hr transition from breakfast to lunch, even though their hours say "open". It happened to us. We bought a baked pastry of some kind. It tasted old and was stale. We threw the crumbly mess out after a bite. We may go back if we are able to time it just right and accommodate their hours. Ha. I'm kidding. We won't. You shouldn't either. There are so many much better options.

Janet B.

Yelp
The lentil salad is super terrifically wonderful! So is the chicken salad--both light and flavorful. Both are the best I've ever eaten. The people are both lovely and extremely competent. Total yum!!!!
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
I love this place. It's small and friendly and I have never had to wait for a table. Last time I was there I just ordered a fresh fruit cup for breakfast and it was surprising for its lack of melon! I can't remember ever ordering a fruit cup and not finding it packed with cantaloupe and honeydew melon. This one was just grapes blueberries and strawberries. I think when I get right down to it that might be an upgrade on the standard version. Good coffee too

Jim H.

Yelp
This favorite restaurant has served the island for many years. A recrnt ownership change has not changed the quality at all. Great food, Great staff! Nice setting! Highly recommend this island gem!

P P.

Yelp
Great Lentil salad. Extraordinary kale soup. Have also enjoyed their lamb burger very much. The shoulder season offers quiet dining which makes for a pleasant ambience. The service is consistently good. Pricing is fair for the Vineyard. The only negative thing I can say is they should drop the beef "tenderloin" from the menu. It was anything but tender. Essentially all gristle and fat. Couldn't cut it with a steak knife. Impossible to chew.
google avatar

Debi C.

Yelp
I had been meaning to try this spot- went for lunch- and it did not disappoint! The chicken swarms sandwich was delicious! My friend had fish tacos that she really enjoyed. They have picnic tables outside, but that is carry out only. Wish they had table service outside. I will definitely go back. The in house baked goods looked tempting as well.

J P.

Yelp
4.5 stars We had lamb burger, fish tacos, lentils salad, pasta and meatballs. The only complaint for me is that the dressing on the lentil salad is a bit too sweet.
google avatar

Aditya K.

Yelp
We went in for a late lunch. We were greeted by the hostess and were seated right away. This place is a nice, cozy space where you can enjoy some fresh food. We got their lentil salad and fish taco. Both dishes were full of fresh ingredients and very tasty. The fish tacos in particular were loaded with avocado, slaw a nice creamy sauce. The fish was perfectly fried. Not too oily nor too raw! They had some really good vegetarian options as well and their coffee and tea menu looked good too. Overall the food and experience was amazing. The staff was friendly and polite. Next time we are on the island, we will definitely give this place another visit.
google avatar

Stefanie D.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Food was fresh, flavorful, and the service was great. I definitely will be back. If you are looking for somewhere that's quick and tasty stop here!!

Holly O.

Yelp
Such a gem! I had the curry chicken salad and it was delicious! Definitely recommend. Only downfall is you have to eat inside, unless you take it as "carry-out".
google avatar

Heather A.

Yelp
Everything here is always so fresh and delicious and the service is great too. Also much quieter and less touristy and busy than Art Cliff, or Black Dog or most others in Vineyard Haven. Especially recommend the Scones, Green Breakfast, Breakfast Wrap (hold the wrap and on a salad!), also the fish tacos too! But really you can't go wrong because everything is made to order with fresh ingredients and lots of love.

Kristina I.

Yelp
Nice location, good food and friendly service. The falafel is always great, and for breakfast the Brie sandwich is fantastic.

Karen S.

Yelp
Limited options for breakfast...decor needs to be updated. Bagels are homemade? Not appetizing at the entrance. Staff are kind and pleasant.

Kimberly F.

Yelp
Fish tacos were delicious...even though the tortilla fell apart. Great chocolate caramel cupcake. Picnic tables with umbrellas outside.

Mark C.

Yelp
For years this was my all-time favorite go-to spot for the "famous" fish tacos. Yesterday's meal was a real disappointment. Soggy fried fish, tasteless sauce, and a taco that fell apart as soon as it was lifted off the plate. I love this place and the awesome staff and hope to give the tacos another go.

Yelp
Delightful. Came in for dinner, and got the scallop dish which I'm honestly still thinking about: I can't remember the last time I've had such fresh and amazingly sweet scallops, and each item on the plate completely added to make the whole greater than the sum of its part, from the lick-your-plate delicious saffron shallot sauce to the incredibly smooth sweet potato (with a ginger accent?) to the perfectly tender asparagus drizzled with balsamic, down to the crispy thickish piece of bacon on the bottom. THIS is what a scallop dish wants to be when it grows up. Good sized portion too, especially for the price (~$26, which for the Vineyard is sadly on the more reasonable side). I also really enjoyed the mussels, which were in a creamy broth (something I hadn't experienced before, unless you're talking an actual chowder). And the tiny dining room plus friendly service feels like you're literally in someone's house... because you essentially are. Downsides: the boy didn't really enjoy his red curry chicken entree (zero spice whatsoever, and the chicken just wasn't that good in his opinion), I felt the shortcake in the strawberry shortcake was really heavy and dough-y, and they do run out of food because they're so tiny and scratch-made/fresh (would have loved to try the sesame noodles!). But otherwise, I call this a shining beacon in the overpriced and underwhelming food on the island- check it out if you get a chance (they do lunch too!).
google avatar

Carla A.

Yelp
Green breakfast with a side of pancakes = DELICIOUSNESS! How they mamaged to cook everything to perfection is beyond me. Spinach was garlicky without grease. Eggs were fluffy without the slightest burn. Avocado was peak ripeness and the toast was grainy, nutty, toasty, and yet moist. And the pancakes, oh the pancakes. Evenly brown, soft, fluffy, and just slightly sweet. Add a touch of real maple syrup and smile. Minus a star for mediocre coffee and a server who didn't pay attention to detail even after asking for a second time. Worth the stop.

Justin O.

Yelp
The perfect breakfast place on the vineyard. Been there three times and it has yet to be crowded. Really good service, welcoming staff, and a good mix of classic and unique breakfast options. I would recommend the steak and eggs or breakfast wrap. You can't go wrong with either. Definitely a place to check out whether your a long time local or just visiting for the weekend.

Priya S.

Yelp
Drinks were good. Meals were okay. The seating is hard picnic benches. The staff could be a bit friendlier. They were rude to my family multiple times. If you're looking for a quick bite this will suffice. We were pretty hungry and tired and needed some comfort. This didn't quite hit the spot, but due to Covid not much was available. Also there are NO BATHROOMS and no sanitizer at tables. There are no waiters either. Pretty bare bones self service.

Barbara R.

Yelp
Bagel and lox was some of the best I've had...and I'm from NY!! Keep up the good work!

Thomas S.

Yelp
Really nice Tisbury restaurant. Great food and easy parking. The ownership here really understands how to deliver a great dining experience. Doesn't break the bank.
google avatar

Mindy S.

Yelp
This restaurant is a jewel in every way. The staff offered welcoming and prompt service. I am vegan and they were so knowledgeable and accommodating about preparing almost anything for me. I had the Gado Gado on a bed of quinoa with tofu. It was filling and delicious. The fish taco was also enjoyed by my sister. I highly recommend this restaurant and it has parking!
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
The food is good, the ambiance is bright and cheerful, and the space is very inviting! There's a parking lot located in the back, so you don't have to fret about where to park, and there's a WHEELCHAIR RAMP to the entrance (which is from the rear of the building). I didn't use the bathroom while I was there, so I didn't check the wheelchair access there, but you can at least get your chair inside the restaurant to dine! The food is reasonably-priced by Martha's Vineyard standards, which is to say that prices for entrees range from $20-28...very affordable on an island where most other restaurants are more in the $30-40 range!! And the quality of the food is right at the top, too, with fresh ingredients put together in flavorful combinations and healthy serving sizes...this is a restaurant where you can just order an entree and still feel very full at the end of your dinner! I ordered the Pan Seared Cod with a summer salad of corn, haricot vert (that's "green beans" for us heathens!!!) and roasted tomatoes, with crispy bacon underneath and green goddess dressing, served over mashed potatoes...I asked for the dressing on the side, because it's a garlicky one, and I avoid garlic. Even without any sauce, the dish was absolutely delicious: The fish was perfectly cooked, flaky, tender, well-seasoned...and the mashed potatoes were just what my brain was craving when it first processed the words "mashed potatoes"!!! The beans, corn and tomatoes really gave the dish a very fresh, light, summery flavor, and the bacon offered an irresistible salty crunch! This is a well-balanced dish!! My parents both ordered the Red Thai Curry Chicken Kebabs, served with vegetables simmered in coconut lime sauce on jasmine rice pilaf. They've had it before and always enjoy it, since the curry is mild and the flavor is well-developed! Even my baby niece enjoyed sharing some of this dish!! My partner scarfed down the Greek-style Lamb Burger with fresh herbs, on a bun with tomato, grilled eggplant and tzatziki sauce, served with a classic Greek salad on the side. He tossed the tomato and eggplant to the side, as is his preference, but no other morsel was left when he was done!!! I ordered a glass of the prosecco ($12) and found it to be a lovely pairing with my fish. Most of the other by-the-glass wine options were less expensive, too, which was a nice surprise! The only downside to our visit was that our blonde, female server was on the grumpy side and kept reminding us that they had a large party coming in an hour and a half after we sat down, so they needed us to vacate our table by then. In fact, when my partner ordered that lamb burger, this nudgy server informed him that she'd "have to check" if that was okay, because the lamb burger takes a little longer to make than the other dishes we'd ordered, and after all, they needed us to leave in an hour and a half! Um, really? Lady, how much longer do you think it takes to cook that lamb burger????? Overall, though, the rest of the service was fine, and every other employee was friendly and helpful, so I'll definitely be back to this restaurant! If you're on Martha's Vineyard and want a relatively quiet, intimate, comfortable dinner of slightly-upscale, good food at affordable prices, you should absolutely check out Little House!!!

Yelp
Little House Cafe is great homey spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on State Road in Vineyard Haven that feels off the beaten path and is a welcome respite from the tired restaurants of Main Street. A huge and creative home-cooked menu, incredible desserts, and interesting beer selection made me come back twice over a three day visit to the island. For our lunch visit, we enjoyed the fresh coffee, butternut squash salad, and roasted turkey sandwich (served atop fresh homemade bread). The highlight was the curried mango chicken salad - a must try! For dinner, we had the gulf shrimp tacos - a good portion size, but as other reviewers mentioned missed the mark on flavor - perhaps they needed some sort of hot sauce to give them more of a memorable kick. The ingredients were fresh, with avocado and shrimp piled high, but not much flavor. The real winner was the dessert. Go for the amazing ice cream cookie sandwiches. Two large warm homemade cookies with ice cream - seems like a classic idea, but this dessert really knocked our socks off. The cookies were so fresh and made for the perfect conclusion to the evening. I would come here for dessert alone honestly. The menu had a quirky selection of bottled beers with a few local brews and a few from Germany - a nice touch. As a visitor to Vineyard Haven for over 10 years, I am shocked that I had never noticed this small cafe, but am excited to return next year. The interior is on the small size, with about 10 tables with a to-go window when you walk in. Parking is available in the rear. I imagine this place has a wait in the peak season.

Yelp
I ate here on a Friday night with my husband and a friend of ours when we came to the Vineyard for a half marathon. We were told you had to make reservations, which we did, and when we arrived we sat down right away. I had crispy fish tacos that were excellent, my husband had shrimp tacos that he really enjoyed. Our friend had the lamb burger, which he didn't really care for. He said more crunchy than he would have liked. Our server was pleasant, and the atmosphere was nice. The only other drawback for me was the amount of beverage choices for non-drinkers.

Jamilah S.

Yelp
This is hands down a can't miss breakfast location. The food is insanely good, and even when they are busy they are always so kind. The food is fresh and well made. I wish I had pictures of the food too, but I ate it too quickly.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Good stuff all around. Can't speak for the main meno as we went in Thursday taco night. I had the beef tenderloin tacos which were amazing. I housed them. Good house made sangria. Wife had the shrimp tacos. We will be back for more for sure!
google avatar

Warren M.

Yelp
The fish tacos are unreal. Fresh ingredients with a generous piece of fish. No other food needed as these two tacos are enough to feed two. The seating is limited but there is outdoor benches outside so order it for takeout and enjoy the fish tacos!
google avatar

Cindi K.

Yelp
Dont pass this place up! The food is fresh and the service is great. I may have eaten the best beet salad with grilled shrimp over arugula ever!

Yelp
After staying 3 nights already on the island, I was determined to find a decent place for food!! I'm so happy I found this cute little place away from the busy marina. Thanks fellow Yelpers. I ordered 2 eggs, sausage and toast. $8 That is cheaper than any other diners I have been to in the last few days. It is also much tastier, the toast is great, lots of whole grains and the blueberry jam is delicious. Eggs perfectly fried. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is bc the coffee is not strong at all, but I think there is no strong coffee in the entire island. This will be my breakfast place when I'm back in the future!
